It was not plugged in. I saw clicks and sparks. House stinks.

Yikes! Sounds like the batteries failed in a bad way. I have never heard of anyone else having this issue!

That blows, did you have it registered?

As I mentioned before, from what I heard - even Davinci doesn't have access to those registration records. There's technically no point in registering your unit currently. They will still ask for all that information when you need to file a warranty claim.

My PNWT knockoff's arrived yesterday, they look GREAT. My replacement Ascent was shipped after 3 days (Ascent was delivered Monday evening, My new Ascent was shipped Yesterday). It'll be here tomorrow!

@bt46b Really sucks, but did you confirm with Davinci the guy was an authorized dealer before you purchased? Because there's no way in hell I'd pay $250 from a vendor without confirming the warranty will be valid (especially on something as new as the Ascent)

Also, don't know about European banks, but in the USA, many don't allow any purchase over $500 or $600 unless you tell your bank you want to increase your daily spending limit..... And for that matter, Aren't European consumer protection laws much stronger than in the USA? Shouldn't you be able to file a claim against the unauthorized vendor?

Has anyone else had trouble with using oil jars with the lid and the lid comes off during vaping?

I am in Australia and have bought from an Australian distributor.
I've now had two Ascent's die on me in 10 weeks
The first a model 1AU died after 8 weeks when the display stopped working and did not turn on/ heat up.
It was replaced under warranty,
The second one a model 2AU has nearly combusted. I turned it off and cleaned the bowl and then laid it down. I noticed a smell in the room and found the Ascent was just about on fire. The top of the unit was smoldering and the plastic was melting and the display bubbling from the heat. Smoke was coming from the plastic. It was so hot to touch I burnt my finger, I knocked it into a pan and took it outside and dropped it on my lawn where it continued to smoke for a while. It eventually stopped smoking and eventually I could pick it up without burning my hand. Interestingly the bowl part had no heat in it in the slightest it was all in the top section.
I haven't touched the motion timer setting and have never ever set it beyond 190C/375F.
I am very sadly the owner of a dead Solo and one very dead Ascent and the soonest I can get one to me is the next mail in 5 days.
I thought the idea was not to combust

Sounds like a Li-Ion off gassing for whatever reason. Ever seen one of those set on fire with a blowtorch? Lots of smoke, expanding, heat,I'd imagine the smell is pretty bad too
sound familiar?

Guys!

Got my replacement Burl-wood Ascent from Davinci yesterday (10 days after it failed, I have a new unit in my hands... not bad).

There was no communication from Davinci after the initial emails to open an RMA ticket. I was hoping to hear back from them ("yup, you're right, we've had a lot of these"). Nothing. But after 3 days, they sent me a shipping notice. I'm relieved to see the new Burl unit is a 2AA1 model.

So far the unit is nearly identical to my old 1AA1 burl unit. Same electronic smell when first opened from box, same haze on the edges of the OLED screen when the unit is off (when on, it's not noticeable). As reported previously, the hinge appears to swivel open smoother than the 1AA1 models. Aside from that, and a full battery charge when I first recieved it, the unit is the same as the other one from what I can tell.

Yes, it still has the 400F bug which causes the screen to not update once the temperature is moved up from 375 to 398-402F. Above 402F, the screen reads correctly.

The 400f bug would be a software bug no? I don't think they've had any complaints with the way the software operates nor do I believe they've changed it so that's why that's still there.
apart from that the only fixes they told me about were all internal like circuits and wiring, insulation ect. If only my PnP was built like my ascent which seems a lot more sturdy except from the previous internal issues

I'm not sure but logically, I assume it's a software bug. Has anyone had an issue when the Ascent is in Celsius? I don't seem to recall anyone complaining about issues with their ascent not updating the temperature when set between 201C to 205C...... Maybe it's a math bug?

Hmm, research is needed, going to try switching my temp to Celcius and see what happens --- Off to pack a big bowl in the Ascent..... for SCIENCE! :science:

-----

Edit - I can conclude my unit still has a software bug when reading temperatures in Celsius. When working up from 175 to 202C, no problems. When I hit 203/204 things went buggy. Setting to 203, 204, and 205 would jump the temperature back to 202C.

I just got this device on a whim yesterday. Its a good little device. I like this more than the Pax already and I've only had it a day. I am not to concerned with conservation so I am judging purely on how I like it. I pack my loads thick. I run it hot @ 420. I get a decent amount of vapor. I hit this thing non stop for about 15mins. and it never stopped giving me vapor before I had to stop. I get to use this when I can't be around my desktops. Its good. Fills a gap very nicely. The workmanship is nice. I LOVE that I can use concentrates. I really like the glass stem idea. Just overall VERY happy.

Welcome! Wow, do you start at 420?? Jeez! I start a 340F!
Enjoy, the GoG is indeed an amazing taste, blew the Pax I tried out of the water!

Make sure you register with Davinci to ensure you're covered in case you have any problems

I've always used my Ascent on Celsius and have not experienced any glitches so you might be on to something Ratchett .

I use my ascent in Celsius and have the same problem. Used to only happen every now and then but lately almost everytime I try and go above 200 and lately not walking again unless I go up to like 215 or turn it off and on a few times.

I should also be getting my glass beads or screens or flowers whatever they're called tomorrow. Hoping that method or the glass jar on top works well for small loads. These are what I ordered, any good?

Hey Gee_Grover, have you already try them? I've bee using the glass flowers for a few weeks and they work pretty well, but now I have tried those spacers and IMO they work even better, I recommend them.

Edit: By the way, they are tiny, like rice grains, you would need 15 or so for a single load.

I sold my Pax a week after owning the Ascent, it is better in almost every category.. was so tired of cleaning the Pax and dealing with a stuck mouth piece the next day.. no problems or concerns with the Ascent except for the 400degree bug which I don't really mind anyway..

Try starting off lower and then moving up to 420 during the session.. I usually do 370 for 5 mins, 390 for 5 and than try to get every last vapor @ 420

hey @OF i know you have posted a whole lot of times saying anyone that has tried the glass flowers and and other methods always like the glass flowers better and you have never seen a post to say the opposite. here is your first one. he did say the glass flowers worked great but in his opinion the spacers worked better

Actually I think you'll find I say something like 'I don't recall anyone....'. That statement is true each time I said it. I'm not sure how these guys fit in the scheme of things, if I read that right the spacers he's using are even smaller than the flowers (like half the size?) in a world where 'they're too small' is the major complaint? Of course for Nigel, breaking them is the biggest problem.

Have you tried them?

Hopefully others will try these and report. Hopefully head to head testing. Not owning an Ascent, someone else will have to do it. I think it's wonderful that our new found friend likes them, but I'm kind of hung up on the 'one swallow doesn't make a spring' idea? LOTS of folks recommend the flowers you know........ And I did try a dozen or so glass beads of various sizes and shapes before deciding surface area is the key.

Choice is good, as is objective experimentation and sharing the information. That, IMO, is the real value of these Forums.

Thanks for making the point. For now, my recommendation WRT the glass flowers stands. IMO you won't go far wrong that way no matter. Cheap and effective, and IMO reasonably easy to use.

I've tried smaller glass cube beads and the flowers. After using both several times I find the flowers work a little better. Plus I only use 5 flowers as opposed to using about 10 beads, and the beads are very hard to handle. Even if I didn't have any flowers I really wouldn't miss them that much, I think the Ascent vapes very well with just a fine grind and a good pack.

Have you tried them?

sorry cant say that i have. would i just for :science: sake... yes i would but here is why i cannot at this time...

1) the link to get them is for the ebay site "across the pond" price seems cheap even though i do not know the conversion rate to american dollars but i got to believe shipping will be up there compared to the price of the items and currently i'm unemployed so no extra cash flow

2) i am on an unwanted T-break because i live in a state where meds are still outlawed so i couldnt try them if i wanted to

3) if i buy ANYTHING right now, even if its just a few bucks... my Ol` Lady will kill me cause with unemployment comes little income and there fore no extra spending money

i know... excuses, excuses, excuses.... but until i am EVEN allowed to medicate again i will not be testing anything for awhile.
