I go where the thrills are
Thanks Mitch. I've been following your story from the very beginning. Now that you have had all three colors, which do you like the best and do you think there is a substantial difference in the way all three have performed? What will you do if the red one also combusts? Does anybody have the AC adapter and can that be used as a plugin while your vaping if your battery is out? I have found that an air duster is a great first step when cleaning.

1. I can't decide which color I like the most. The Red is stunning...but the Silver and the Grey (which I only had for a couple days) have this gorgeous metallic finish that makes them look like sports cars. Perhaps the grey is the most stealthy.

2. When working properly, I think they all perform the same, basically. At first I thought the Red was a touch cooler than my new Silver, but after a few weeks I've come to the conclusion that they are operating mostly identically. They seem to extract the same, and with both of them I find myself maxing out the 30 second hold time on the heat button in the later stages of a bowl, on occasion.

3. The external charger doesn't allow you to use the FF while charging, as far as I know. (it's a charger, not a power adaptor.) In fact the external charger doesn't have a plug...it needs to be connected to the AC charger you get with your FF. Given how often I drain the battery, I love having three batteries and the external charger. I'm always charging one of the batteries.

4. If either of my FF's experience systemic combustion, I will do what I've done in the past and contact them and get a replacement. I have ZERO confidence in my ability to fix an issue myself, and I won't do anything to void the five year warranty, which, obviously, some of us have definitely needed!

The FF is still experiencing first gen/early adopter problems, unsurprisingly. That's why their excellent service is so critical, and so appreciated by those of us who've had to use it.

Question: I've used my Firefly four or five times now. I was using the plastic pick to break up a clump and notice the screen moved a little from side to side. Is this normal?

All caught up on the thread. That is a little disconcerting, seeing that shenzen video along with seeing Mr. Gweilo 420 post about being offered a direct sale. I did call Firefly but this only made things worse. They said they will cover a ebay purchase under warranty, as long as I could show proof of purchase and the serial number is correct. Is the serial number visable without opening the package? If it is, I think I will call Stacey and verify that I have a legit unit before I open it. I hope I didn't buy a knock-off. I rarely buy anything like this from any other source than the manufacture. This is why! :uhoh: :tinfoil:
But, the $30. off retail made me do it. Lol. I spoke with Stacey on Friday. She was very friendly and helpful. She had also said they are working on getting a transferable warranty program in place.

On the colors, the dark grey is stealthy for sure. I just had more opportunities for test today. My wife said exactly the same thing I'd said when I tried vaping with the Solo in public: "better put it away, that black thing looks threatening, like a charge with a timer" while "the firefly looks too expensive to be inappropriate - vape on!"

Well that's disappointing. What's that word for violating a warranty, breaking the product, then making a warranty claim?

Gee, I dunno, is it "illegal" or "immoral" you had in mind?

"False Warranty Claim" be the term!
False Warranty claims involve someone changing the facts surrounding a claim in order to bring about unjust payment, replacement or reimbursement. They take a somewhat legitimate, yet unreimbursable circumstance and materially change facts to gain payment.

My apologies if this has already been addressed but has anyone used concentrates with the FF? I'm wondering if I could just use the MFLB concentrate trays successfully?

My FF came today. It included a reciept from Vape World to the seller I bought it from. So, I feel much easier about my transaction being legitimate. I was going to wait to open it until I contacted Firefly C.S. Now that I know it came from Vape World, I don't think there is any reason to at this point? Any thoughts? Should I still wait to verify S/N? I am having a very tough time not opening it lol.

The only thing i would be worried about is if the warranty is transferrable. Might be an issue with the persons name and address on the receipt...

But at this point it doesnt really matter cause you already have it. And should you have an issue you could always white out the name and photocopy it

Ok I have the battery charging on the external charger. I will be back in a hour or so with more.
I love the Red. It is much nicer looking in person than in photos.
Thanks @Mynameismud for the idea.

Edit1: Firefly must have been listening to all the concerns over the battery door fitting loosly. Mine fits very securely. I don't think this will be an issue for mine. But, only time and repeated removal will tell.
Edit 2: light just went solid blue on the charger off for testing.
Edit 3: two sessions down, all I have to say is wow :whoa: she will be known as the Red Queen:love:

The Red is stunning. And yes, my two FFs, both newish at this point, have super firm battery covers.

Glad it's working well for you right out of the gate. Enjoy!

It only gets better the more you get the hang of it.

I have had both red and dark grey. I like red better, but i feel more comfortable with grey in public.

Now i gotta get a silver.

Yes, my first results were a little uneven, second was better, and the third was almost spot on uniformed in color. I will take the next 50 or so uses to get completely used to the heating element and such. But I'm very happy with the results, ie medicated level after those first two uses. I have powered through a third for the sake of testing. I must admit that this is a very smooth vape. If not the best portable I've tasted. Great flavor. Poor user manual. So I am very glad that I have all of your trial and error to thank for my quick succsess with this beauty. I believe I shaved days off getting to the right technique by reading the thread first. Thank you everyone for making it gr8 right out of the gate.:tup:

In Tobacco you can use something like a Captain Black. No self-respecting pipe smoker would pick it. But it's sweetened and flavored, tastes pretty yummy. I forget the varieties, I think Blue Label is their Cavendishy blend. The shisha stuff I'be never tried, but it might be even better because they make it with glycerin, so it makes huge clouds and tastes like a candy shop.

Oh yeah, one more idea. Ploom makes the Pax. They sell a vaporizer for like $40 that uses these little tobacco carts. They have aromatic and so on. One of their little aluminum pots would probably fit in the FireFly. The beauty is it wouldn't leave much tobacco taste in the FireFly.

Has anyone tried those tobacco chambers yet? Additionally, does any ones vapexhale/evo mesh caps fit into the firefly. It would make the 14gong joint I use for the Waterpipe much less variable, not having to use head shop screens jammed into the glassmale joint.

Well, I certainly empathize...my Silver FF changed from perfect to combustion machine without so much as a screen change. Just BAM! Random combustion.

My gut tells me there is a design issue that is causing this to happen. Your unit started combusting for no particular reason, and mine did the same thing after a screen change.

My bet is that some part or parts could be redesigned to prevent this from happening.

Since I re-assembled my grey unit it is acting just like it did before. I've even found myself leaning a little harder on the power button with the latest strain I started vaping.

My confidence is returning, however the specter of combustion is still looming over each session...
