Discontinued herbalAire

Congrats, cybrguy, the HA is a good choice for a first vape, or a vape in general, as it is so versatile, and does so many things so well, imo.

Have fun using it in all modes and playing with the precision temperature controls.

You can grind, or not, it doesn't matter, try both and see what works for you.

Feel free to report back with your impressions and any questions you might have.

I talked to herbalAire today and I just want to say that they couldn't have been nicer. Not only are they sending me the missing crucible but are sending me some other parts comp for my inconvenience. Having such good CS reassures me that going direct was a good plan. Thanks herbalAire. :)

If you buy the 3 or 5 mouytch piece bag filler thing do you have to use all of them at once or could you use 2 or 4

Also how long did it take to ship to you his in the US with standard shipping I want to make sure I'm in town when it comes

I am going to guess on your first question, but I would be surprised if you didn't have to use all the ports. Otherwise the unused port would just pump your product into the air.

It took about 10 days from order to arrival in the midwest. I had a small problem with the order but they went out of their way to make sure I was happy after. I think they will be a good company to deal with.

So, a couple noobie questions. Going from smoking (for some 40 years) to vaping is taking a little adjustment. So far I am using kinda small amounts while I test things out, about pea sized nugs or a little bigger. I haven't tried a bag yet, just the whip so far. I have been starting at around 325° F and going up nearly all the way to 400°. No doubt I am getting a buzz, but it is very different from smoking. It seems cleaner, but less intense. I suspect I will adjust and prefer it, but for now I may need to increase the amount I am consuming until I get used to it. I am not getting huge amounts of vapor.

With this device should you heat it up first before dropping in bud, or heat it with bud already in the chamber? I am guessing the former tho that might only apply to the first pass.

More questions later.

If you want to emulate the smoking experience as closely as possible I would recommend starting at 350 minimum, and going all the way to 400. 400 is nowhere near combustion temperature, but will supply a lot of the heavy, high temp actives you are accustomed to from smoking. Also, securely cover the screen as evenly as possible.

As to your second question: let the HA heat up empty with the MP on top. This will give you time to pack the crucible. When the HA is up to temp pop the MP off, drop the crucible inside, put MP back on and go to town.

A side tip for the tightness of stock MP connection: always keep the teflon mouthpiece on the HA whenever it is above room temperature. It is fine to pop it off for a few seconds to pour out a crucible, or to drop in a new one, but never let the unit heat or cool without the stock MP on top. Staying fastidious about this makes sure the teflon connection between the unit and the MP stays tight; avoiding any accidental pop-offs.

My experimenting has been going well. :) I have just been using nugs and not packing down because I don't have a crucible and don't want to pack the naked chamber on a new device (even though I know I could) to avoid getting it dirty. I should have crucibles any day now and additional options will abound...

I am impressed about how thoroughly the nugs are exhausted, however, with brown to deep brown all through. Convection seems to do the trick.

Just chiming in to update on my HA experience. It's been six months and this device has made every day a blessing. I use to wheez from long term combustion and although I still combust every once in a while, my wheezing is no more! Between price, durability, functionality, customer service, etc. I couldn't be happier! If you havent already, do yourself a favor and buy one! Thanks Herbal Aire! Vape on folks!!

99% of the time I start at 350 and end at 375 unless I pack too much I might turn it down to 330 or so to start so I don't choke on it. (not enjoyable imo)

the solo's glass tubes can be used in the herbalaire. simply place the metal bowl over the glass and it will be a good fit. also, if you want to avoid getting weed in your mouth while using these stems, you can put a little piece of cotton into the mouthpiece on the side your mouth goes on, and push it down a centimeter and a half and the plant material will not go into your mouth. this is really random but i really prefer vaporizing like this and wouldnt want to do it any other way, you should at least try it once if you own the vaporizers. i would even recommend buy the stems if you just own the herbailaire.

--A recent, thorough review of the HerbalAire from someone that has owned theirs for nearly 10 years--

Excerpts:
"The unit is incredibly durable and long-lasting – my unit has seen over 14,600 uses so far and still works just like new..."
"It outperforms any commerical vaporizer on the market and goes for less than half the price."
"I have never tried a thicker, more potent vapor than I have been able to get from the bag system of the HerbalAire."
"I would recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a vape."

Still adjusting to the differences. It still seems like I don't get as high consuming the same amount, but it may well be the benzine and other bad (for you) parts of the buzz. The act of consuming, while obviously different, is quite pleasant. :)

That would be the differences between smoking and vaping, of course.

Excellent review, I have had similar experiences with my HA, except that I rarely use the balloon function anymore. These days its my HA+Waterpipe all the way.

I've had my Herbalaire 2.1 since January/February 2008 and it is still going strong with no signs of stopping...I can't recommend this vape to people enough, in fact it baffles me as to why it isn't more popular.

OK, I have gone back and reread this review both buzzed and not and I am still trying to figure out why the poster likes to turn his crucible upside down. And, independent of whatever the benefit would be, wouldn't the screen being loose in the crucible make it more difficult to pack the product?

Inquiring minds and all that...

And since I can still edit this post...

Onigiri - I wanted to thank you for posting that whip set up with the links, you made it so easy for me to upgrade. I ordered it and it came the other day. It's a huge improvement over the standard HA whip.. So for anyone thinking about upgrading their whip do it now!!

OK, yes yes yes I have gone further back in this thread because it is such a wealth of information. When I first came here I only went back to page 50 or so and now I am way further back... :)

So, after the post Keydog is responding to I had to add my appreciation to onigiri1692 for his/her post with the links (still valid) even if the info was not original, but I have a question. You recommend sticking with HA's original diameter tubing as you state they chose it deliberately as the best for drawing on the HA. Do you still believe that to be true and is there consensus on that? It IS a few years later, after all. :) I might like a little better draw on the whip, but not at the expense of buzz or efficiency.

Hey cybrguy, I am happy someone still benefits from those posts! I can't believe it has been a little over two years since I made them...time flies!

To answer your question, I no longer believe that to be true. If I were to write that tutorial today I would recommend using tubing that has a interior diameter that was a bit larger. I would recommend using tubing with a ID of 5/16in or even maybe even 1/4in tubing. The reason I say this is long ago I switched from using my whip as my go to method of using the HA to using it with a showerhead bubbler. I would connect my HA to the bubbler essentially by using the whip, except that the mouth piece was replaced by a 18mm water pipe adapter.

Fast forward another year and a half and I decide to simplify my setup by purchasing a PlanetVape Gong for my HA. The PV Gong has a substantially larger interior diameter than the tubing I was previously using and the performance of my vapebonging experience skyrocketed. I was now pulling effortless clouds because of the increased air flow, with absolutely no detriment to efficiency, buzz or performance. I personally believe this setup to be the optimal way to use the HA, it is simply incredible...this method blows everything else I have ever tried with my HerbalAire out of the water.

I also have some PV gong but i found them stuck 100% of the time on the top white teflon part on the unit. I am on the edge to resolve myself to carve this top teflon ring to prevent the pb.

Did you find the same issue of stuck PVgong? If yes, how did you prevent it?

Vapodudule If I were you I would wait and pick up one of the newer Teflon on glass mouthpieces. I had two of the PV HAgongs one was too small and one was too big for the HA herb chamber.

OK, well, as soon as I can find where I put my straight bong after finally cleaning it (after many years) and putting it away somewhere it would be out of the way (stoned of course), I intend to try it out with HA just by holding it to the downstem (for now, I did get a tong from HA as a CS bump but haven't made a mimi crucible). I haven't been able to find the bong the last couple times I looked... :(

The downstem is badly cracked and works OK with a small slider bowl but It won't handle the weight or bulk of the HA so I will need a new downstem for sure, but for now my main desire is to make a better silicone whip as that will likely be what I use most of the time. I just wanted to be sure that increasing the diameter of the whip tubing won't be a design faux pas or damage product components before consumption.

I am about to pull the trigger on 10' of the 1/4" silicone from that Amazon link. Only moments left to stop me... ;)

@cybrguy no problem using a larger whip if you want to it won't hurt a thing. I prefer 1/4 inch ID silicone tubing like a MFLB whip myself with the HA. Find what you like, If you can attach it to the mouthpiece it'll work.

I still find no real need to use water filtration with the HA as the hits are nice and smooth as is, I mean it's cool playing with water tools but the HA shines pretty bright without 'em.
