Why I wont buy Sheldon Black anymore!

I was kinda digging the Sheldon pieces till I saw this thread.

It has been a few years since the last post, anyone deal/buy their products recently?
I have a SB doubler and I can't speak to their customer service but I accidentally kicked it over onto my enail and it was 100% fine. Not like a light kick either, that thing slammed down onto the metal box, couldn't believe it was okay. And keep in mind that's after I've kept my domeless nails in there for a year or two so I'm guessing the heat weakened it a decent amount.

Honestly idk what OP was complaining about, his glass broke and the company said sorry, we don't do work with individuals - that's totally fair IMO. If you crash your car do you call up a Ford manufacturing warehouse and say "hey you made this so you gotta fix it"? No, you bring it to a local mechanic. There's a million people out there who specialize in fixing glass so why do you need Sheldon Black himself to do it?

IMHO, when a customer approaches me with an issue, if I can't help I make sure I advise them on how to proceed (give them another avenue of support). Doing so costs me a small time investment, both in advising that particular customer on their particular issue.... and also in keeping my knowledge base up to date as far as other resources available and how they can help.

I find if you're NOT the Dead End (telling the customer "We Can't Help", then terminating the communications) and even if you do nothing but say... "We can't help, but so-and-so over here can..." ... Well, that will get you a seat you in that customer's good favor for a long time! And they will spread the word....

So what I am hearing is, if you like it- get it.
If there is a breakage down the road, take it to a local shop.

I have no idea what actually happened or what was said, or how rude he was; all I know is they refused to fix a broken piece which is (imo) fair for a business to do. If the OP wants to say "I will never buy from SB again" then he should really be saying, "I will never buy glass from a company that refuses to fix my bong again" - which would be a good amount of companies. :2c:

To be honest, I'm amazed Medicali even fixed it, I broke my mobius and it never even crossed my mind to call Mobius themselves, I brought it to a local glassblower and they fixed it very quickly and cheaply.

Of course, this post is years old and we don't even know if the OP believes this anymore so kinda pointless to discuss lol

I understand your pain, but I believe this is par for a company of this volume. They don’t want to deal with the public, only retailers and they don’t have a repair setup. I know many artists that are that way, especially the “made” ones.

Hard to take, but a business choice. And its fair to say I wish to support the smaller artists who have direct customer service.

When I dug up this old thread, I did not intend to rehash the original poster's issue.
Instead, my intention was to learn the experiences of more recent customers.

I wanted to learn if they are still putting out great pieces, if the quality warrants the price, how well is the quality control, etc. I am really not that all surprised he does not wish to do repairs.

FYI, I think it is relevant to note the only reason I posted in this thread, is that I was not sure where to post my question and often feel I must walk on eggshells around FC- I have noted many occasions during my first weeks here, where mods "hand slap" posters for real nominal issues. Like, Posting new threads when others exist, posting in existing threads when this topic warrants it's own dedicated thread, even for going slightly into complimentary subjects and not strictly maintaining the thread's title subject.

So I did a search, found this thread on Black pieces and thought it might be a good place to start asking. Moving forward, perhaps my questions are better answered in a thread dedicated to his pieces? Your thoughts, and any guidance is appreciated and well received.

I am sure I will get the hang of this place soon enough :)

no worries. didn't pay attention to the threads age.

on SB quality and worth. They are well designed and manufactured scientific pieces. Worth, that is an opinion, but they are not out of line with others. I would buy another SB if a design grabbed me. My first recycler was a SB and still made. It is excellent and the ones I see in shops are as good.

I ended up getting the Traveler and absolutely love it as well!
great diffusion, stacks well, thick joint, perfect parts fit.

I am going to get a few aftermarket parts for mine. I already outfitted it with a quartz castle domeless nail, and have been using it with all my vapes. Next is to get a bent neck mouthpiece to set the mouthpiece away further from my torches (lotus and castle).
