The Lotus Vaporizer

I love it! This looks like an awesome solution! How much side-to-side play does the lotus have in the case? Will the lotus bounce around? Nice find!

I've already shared the Lotus with 4 good friends (I'm the only vape guy, all the rest combust daily). I think I just sold at least 2 Lotus''! Ha ha ha ha, man they never expected a vape to act like the Lotus! Awesome job @Max Jitter , I'm loving the Lotus - So simple, so elegant.

When my fancy Ascent died (my first 'nice' vape) failed after 1 month, I knew I had to find a reliable vape that would last session after session. The Lotus fit the bill in every way.

I would gladly pay extra to have a Lotus custom made with some exotic wood material.... Hell, my friend is a master wood turner. I bet I could easily buy a spare cap and replace the outer wooden shell with something beautiful...... Obviously voiding the warranty, but I am in love with the Lotus.
It fits great, still haven't field tested it but it seems like maybe the poker sticking through the mesh helps to prevent any "play" but thre isn't much wiggle room really unless you have removed your poker.

I got the cheaper honest lighter from MT, it works great with the lotus. I already had another one but more of a streamlined cigarette version, a little underpowered with the lotus I think. But it has a cool little led light that turns the flame into a nice red color. They both start up quite reliably on the first or second click.

I also have a handful of other butane lighters that I never "got the hang of", including some cool butane inserts for a couple of zippos. Thanks to this thread I learned about purging, and I am confident that I'll be able to rescue at least half of them, at least the ones I held on to!

OK I bled it and filled it with Newport gas - and its still ropey. The flame either dies or after a few seconds blows out a long flame and dies. However I think its the valve release control (sqaure ignition button) as if it fires up correctly and I press firmly on the square button and if you press it all the way down flush it tends to work but when working when you turn it off it carries on burning for 2-3 seconds. It did thid from the start the after burn

Try bleeding even more - I personally bleed holding the unit both up and down - I find turning over the unit and bleeding again gets even MORE air out - I usually keep going until I don't hear any hiss or 'puff' as the unit depressurizes.

Mine isn't perfect either, but it does light on the first try (when going slow, not a fast clicker by any means). I have found that I have more issues when holding the lighter at the wrong angle. I've since modified my technique to keep my torch at an upward angle - seems to go out less often.

My coworker just asked me to refill a beautiful torch lighter (never refilled it - smelled like ASS when I bled it) - cheapo one from 10+ years ago - but it's a solid all gold construction gooseneck - works PERFECT (doesn't go out - small flame even at full blast - perfect heat for a looonnng session) .... I am halfway tempted to not give it back! Sadly there isn't any name info on the lighter

My friend last night was hilarious - after his second draw produced a huge cloud, he asks "Are you SURE we're not combusting?!??" - Lol I'm loving the Lotus.

Just got a shipping notice from Davinici - my replacement Ascent shipped today. I should have it Saturday...... and I don't care anymore! I really don't plan on using the Ascent. The Lotus has proven it's a game changer, I don't even WANT to buy a desktop unit like the Extreme-Q anymore! Who'd want to be tethered to an outlet?

I love the Lotus and at the end of the day you can get those lighters for less than £3 also its gets very hot and that affects it as from cold it's better I guess.

I nearly went back to the solo but wanted to get to grips with the Lotus. Kids and new toys and that.

Soon I'll have 4 more torch lighters 2 x £3 ebay ones and a £8 amazon one and one of these in weed green ha ha

How come they never make the nice ones with viewing windows?

I wondered if the tanks are better quality and the clear ones are cheaper like disposable ones but a better quality but still the same see through plastic.

Where as the better ones use a different non translucent plastic type?

A few lighter tips.

When you bleed it, set it on a register or in the sun so that it warms up (but don 't let it get hot). You'll get a better empty tank this way.

When filling, stick it the freezer to cool it. You'll get a more complete tank this way.

Hope you guys solve your lighter issues.

Perhaps we should try and find one or two lighter quality models from known brands like this one:

http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/turboflame_arc_metal_tabletop_lighter/

And then have the Honest as a second lighter.

I've been meaning to do this for quite some time, but i haven't had a real need yet.

I couldn't find this Turboflame on any american sites earlier today.... Walked into my mega LHS after work today ("The Headquarters") and what do I see on the top shelf of the torch display case? Two "Zico" T-38 Torchs (One chrome, one brushed) Bought the brushed one for $20
http://www.amazon.com/Zico-ORIGINAL-Refillable-Adjustable-Lighter/dp/B00IODHLPC/
Wow! It was perfect! I had a few great sessions with no problems! Much better performance than the Honest lighter.

Then it died when my wife got home..... Out of gas!

Now no matter what one of my 3 cans of butane I use, I can't get it to fill! I think it's filled enough, but when I try to light, I hear a small hiss, but no flame, not even when I hold a lighter up to the tip. I suspect this is user error and I'm not filling it right....

Sounds like there's too much air, did you purge?

Recently when filling my Hammer with a nearly empty can it wouldn't light, not even after 30+ clicks, I turned it upside down and purged it a bit until air wasn't coming out but liquid was. Starting igniting like normal.

That's what I'm thinking - but there's no more air coming out. What do you mean about the liquid only? Do you mean stop once liquid stops escaping? Now I'm lost lol.

I would purge the tank entirely, then refill with a canister that was low on butane.
Even though there's clearly liquid in the tank it wouldn't ignite, when I turned it upside I didn't fully purge just let out air until its starting spewing out the colder butane type liquid.

I imagine air bubbles.

That did the trick! It's running strong now! I'm loving this torch - now to fire up the D020 for a night-cap!

so it comes down to two things with this thing...draw speed and flame characteristics. the draw speed is the easy part. the flame thing is an educational experience. i had a session today where I get what was happening to that member who was holding his flame to the lotus for two minutes and getting nothing. i think flame length has a lot to do with it, as I think farmer has eluded to. when my flame is short and close to the lotus it does nothing no matter how long i hold it there. i find it likes a longer flame with a little touching at the end. but we have flame angle as well, which sucks when your lighter doesn't want to work horizontally. and all my lighters hiss a little after i turn them off...whats up with that?

anyhow, i just combusted for the first time with it and had forgotten just how harsh smoke is. while i was cleaning it up i had a real stoner moment. this is either brilliant or a yawner...you tell me. Figure out a way to heat the downstem to get Sublimator like effects. There you go...that was it. Think about it.

What do you think?

I really like this vape and will be using it regularly as I rotate vapes to fight signature tolerance.

@stickstones, I'm not exactly sure what you're alluding to, but one Sublimator-like effect that can be had is Reclaim! So, how about using this handy little dandy with the Lotus and reap the reward, as follows - http://www.ioffer.com/i/90-19mm-oil-rig-bubbler-reclaimer-domeless-ti-nail-set-552518154 (minus the nail, of course). I'm going to go for it! ...and use it with my Jacuzzi bubbler:nod:! If I find the Lotus to be too high for the eye with the Jacuzzi, I'll use my Dave Goldstein or Dhgate D020.

This might do the trick too! Reclaim is the name of the game:ko:

Actually I have made numerous posts about flame length in the past and as the manufacturer states the flame should be between 1/2" and 5/8". And the easiest way to do it is to keep the flame length (the thick part) about the same as the DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TIPS OF THE LOTUS FLOWER LEAVES ON THE HOTPLATE. :p

And about the flame going out when you hold it too close to the hotplate, as was mentioned before, I really think it's because of the lack of oxygen around the flame. It sputters and it goes out after a couple of seconds... I always keep a distance, just the tip of the flame touching the surface after the first two secs of heat up.

Thanks farmer... you're posts have helped me a ton! Last night I purged and filled my good lighter and it stopped working. I went through three others to get one to work well with no luck. I will probably have to drain and fill the good one to get it to work right. The Lotus is awesome! Lighters...eh.

I sold my first gen Lotus cause I couldn't get the lighters right. With the second gen Lotus I had very few issues with lighters... Honests seem to give me little trouble nowadays. I don't know if I use them nicely or if I am just lucky. I always try to press the button slowly and not doing numerous fast clicks like @VapeNStone does in some vids... :p It seems to help with their longevity. :)

OK now I'm sorted here is my armory
20140405_140524.jpg

The bottom one is a £3 ebay one it works and feels better than the honest and has a nifty built in flame cap that lifts up when you press the button easier to hold and use than the honest

E2a the flame on max is not brilliant just adequate

The Turoflame one
http://www.turboflame.co.uk/products.php
Feels nice solid lights well rubber is tactile to grip has auto lock on switch
draw backs so far
Max flame length not great adequate I guess
can auto extinguish when using on the lotus sometimes I think it may be as the flame is short the heat gets reflected back?
can cook off quite a bit the flame can carry on a while after you let go sometime you have to pull the button up

The left one I got off Amazon
£8
You can see the clear tank sort of through a little window on one side hard to work out how much fuel only that some is in

This so far is my fave and I love the tyre stand and the flame does extend a fair bit as well I think I may run this one a while and see how it does

The Honest for size purposes
Mines duff so its hard to rate beyond that - the ebay one is easier to hold and use IMO

E2a the honest has just worked flawlessly it's really temperamental I guess. It is also capable of producing a much bigger flame than all of the others and can increase flame midburn and combust the herb I had some cheese go burn burn
