Discontinued Pinnacle Pro

Pinnacle Pro Rattle
just bought a Pinnacle Pro two weeks ago. I've got a rattle down in the area of the battery. Sounds like a piece of plastic. Anybody else have this problem or tried to remove the cap where the battery is? I contacted the Vapor Blunt folks and they told me that it wasn't covered under warranty. Really love this vape but hate the rattle.
The rattle could be the bullet inside the unit? I wouldn't worry about something like that. Mine has a little rattle and it's not the bullet. It's been that way since I bought it and the unit works fine.

Astrat,
Some of us are upset with VB but it's between us and the company. It's important to mention problems that you may be having but we don't attack the company or each other.

just found that the little silicone rubber caps on E-cig filters fit perfectly over the top of a packed bullet.
works great for transporting them if you dont have the 6 pack holder (which needs slightly modified to carry 6 or 7 packed bullets without them spilling) its a super easy fix let me know if you want to know how)

Astrat, normally we welcome new members, but saying something like VaporBlunt spends more time on this forum than answering support calls is a bit out of line.

If you had read all the pages you might find some solace instead of just barking.

We are all concerned with inhaling melted plastic. They are working on mass producing a fix. Something that takes time. Get a well known older vape for your daily driver.

Out of line? Really. I have read the thread all 185 posts. What does that have to do with trying to get a call back or an answer from the "MANUFACTURER" I guess some people think it is ok to run a business this way. You being a Professional Vaporist obviously know it all and feel this way. Thanks for nothing.

I did not disrespect anyone at this forum and only stated "FACT". Telling me I am out of line because of "FACT" is where I draw the line. FACT- VaporBlunt responds here but not to any of the last 4 messages I left them. I don't get the point of this forum.

No worries....I will no longer post. I see the light and now get what goes on here.

Let's see. You said in reply to Ratm22:

I think most people would find that disrespectful and rude. There's certainly no "FACT" there.

We have another rule:
  • Public discussions of staff decisions are not permitted on the site. If you have any concerns or queries relating to a staff decision please take it up in private with a staff member.
I gave you a break and you got pissy. I told you that if you weren't respectful, you'd get a warning point, so here it is.

@Mister G: Please don't make things worse.

Hello again folks, I have 24 hours on the “FIX”. So let me start by saying OOPS! Fix is too strong of a word as this is helping the issue I am currently experiencing, but unfortunately it is not a “FIX”. The real fix will need to come from @TherealVaporblunt & @Engineering. This will all make sense once you finish this next BarnBoy Series installment…

First some sad news to report today. This morning the BarnBoy was reaching out for his PNP on the well photographed barn bench. While pulling the PNP closer, his shirt sleeve snagged the BB-Nipple/Teat Epic GonG off the bench, dropping it to the floor. It did not survive the fall… :rip: (Rest In Pieces)

FYI the “FCLOVE” doesn’t appear to work (sorry @herbivore21). There wasn’t an entry field when I placed the order for another one…

THE BARNBOY ON CRACKS! Part 1
– The Primary Education
OK, when I discovered the crack, I was pissed. I wanted to rant, rave and go through all 5 stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. And after this weekend I think I can skip a couple and just head to acceptance; was in anger far too long. Below is a shot of the crack on my PNP back wall...

aWllkzn.jpg

So my first step to become educated was to re-read every post from @Engineering. This really is a recommended step in your 5 step process when this happens to you! He really has a number of excellent posts explaining the technology or “key search words” for your Secondary Education. Along the way in the read you will even find little gems of info from him like this post where he tells us it’s OK to go push the screens down to stop the bullet from rattling.

When I was doing my research on my next vape back in early January 2014, I remember having concerns about the PNP being plastic and was really trying to find out what kind of heating element was inside, when I read this post and basically stopped my research on the other vapes. What has me now is the final word! Here it is stated that…

One final comment: The heat in the PRO, even at 5 is nowhere close to melt temperature of PES. PES melts at 379 C or 714 F! That is WAY above the temps we use in any vaporizer. This is why I made the claim that it is not melting, and stick by that. I believe there is something happening that appears to be melting, still need to investigate further.

Remember my post on PES material where I also showed a photo of my melted MP tip? Well it doesn’t say the glass transition temp is that high. And neither do the MSDS sheets @Engineering published here

Maybe Engineering confused F for C long ago, and then calculated F from the mistake to bring the glass transition temperature artificially higher. Actual transition temp is 225C (437F). Well below the ignition/burning temp of 450C (843F). So now for those who have actually read the MSDS, is anyone concerned that PES is a California Prop 65 material? If young and still planning to reproduce, maybe you should! Said device is sold in CA and doesn’t have any Prop 65 warnings. (Best Scooby-Doo voice) RUT-RO!

Engineering was very important in my quest for knowledge. Can't thank him enough for all of his posts!

- The Secondary Education
The next step was to take all these new learned terms: Creep, Rupture, Fracture, Crack, Melting, Glass Transition Temperature & PES plastic; shred these with some Google searches, then read and vape while the old lady did yet another weekend of car shopping. As an electrical guy, the BarnBoy has no business knowing about plastics, but I’m glad I did this exercise. And it may prove useful in my future, as knowledge is power! There is a ton of info out there on PES. It is getting heavily studied for fracture and why it happens so designs won’t fail. And of all of the things I read, the one that absolutely crippled me was from a book called Application of Fracture Mechanics to Polymers, Adhesives and Composites by D.R. Moore. On page 8 there is a statement that brings all of our bad experiences to a reality…

Conditioning of an amorphous thermoplastic at or near to its Tg is known to reduce the free-volume in the material with the consequence of making the material stiffer and less ductile

Translation: the PNP will unfortunately rupture, crack, fracture and/or fall apart! So now I fully understand Engineerings last post, where a complete redesign will be required:ugh:

To make you drool, the next BarnBoy on Cracks series installment will be on temperature measurements…

Sometimes when I use my PNP (5bars battery) to say setting 2 heating or setting 3 the battery would die 1blinking blue light. Then when I charge it shoots to 4 bars flashing to the 5th. Strange lol

THX barnboy for a good insight into this. I was expecting this on the MP but not the rest of the unit. So less heat = longer without damage.

There have been theories floating around that the plastic degradation may be isolated to PnP users who do one or more or a combination of the following: 1) are daily and heavy PnP users, perhaps 8+ sessions per day + multiple back to back session and/or 2) high temp PnP users who regularly or even exclusively use the 4-5 setting and/or 3) PnP users who use materials that are highly resinous such as oils/waxes that can stick to surfaces and increase their surface temp exposure and/or 4) have extended use of the PnP in the inverted position, increasing contact of the hot metal bullet to plastic PonG parts.

None of these fits my usage pattern and my PnP has none of PonG or Cracking issues.

Anyone experience the damaged PonG issue without doing any of the above? I am not saying you are using it improperly, just trying to help isolate causes.

I have the original Pn, probably from the first batch. Never had a problem with the clear PONG, but I do have a crack in the same spot as the PnP.

Good idea
I don't do none of the above and no issue with the OG or PRO

My PnP is turning itself off randomly and if it stays on it won't reach any useful temp before 8 min auto shutoff I have a crack above the chamber I heard that means it's not covered, I did not believe this. I only go up to 3 for herb. After the ascent I won't be happy with another loss

I am not a spokesperson for the company, but my guess regarding their lack of warranty on cracks is that there is no way of them knowing it was not caused by the unit falling on hard surface from an accidental drop. JMO, not a fact.:evil::evil:

I had this same problem only mine wouldn't turn back on until I plugged it into the charger. I got a RMA but once they got my unit they said I had a crack and that the battery issue was a result of the crack and therefore was NOT covered by warranty. As I have made clear in my earlier posts I am still going round and round with the company about this.
@Mister G That's a funny!
The company phone guy actually said that to me when I called. I asked him to prove to me that the split didn't happen from a faulty design. I also asked him to explain why the company was putting the blame on me the costumer who shelled out $204 for this device instead of accepting responsibility for a design flaw.
Needless to say we got nowhere.

Yes while that is true I forgot to say the supposed reason behind my unit failure is that the crack some how caused a battery failure and I think I'm still in the 90 day battery coverage and well well withing the year warranty so I don't think it right that that what I believe is clearly a manufacturing/design fault should be the cause of another 150+ hole in my bank. I also believe if someones charges a high price it's either that the quality backs the pricetag, the customer service makes right any errors. Or the inflated cost is backed by nothing and has no reason to be so expensive or have rather simple to fix problems become a issue to customers. And as for them knowing the cause, Pes the plastic used from what I've heard contracts with heating causing it to become brittle and more prone to fractures, using another material would help, maybe making new shells for self replacement or have them shipped in to be fixed(for free would be my choice) or flat out recall and re ship or refund for anyone affected by a material failing. And although I agree if they do not want to cover accidents that's up to them but with the price of this unit I expected more, same went for my ascent. Disappointment with the longevity of these vapes is all I can say

That's exactly what I was trying to avoid when getting the PnP I felt cheated enough after the asscent that took a crap on my sunny day many moons ago, now the pnp has given up in a similarly useless way and I'm sensing it's gonna be a right bitch to sort, should really start ordering local so the shipping costs don't violate me whenever something like this seemingly inevitably screws the pooch

Yes it doesn't bode well. As @bellas has found out this is what concerns me it costs a fair bit to send them from the UK plus it's maybe iffy sending a used unit from a country where cannab is illegal.

I regret getting it a bit now I should have cut out the PnP and gone straight for the Lotus it's great just need a better ligher

Although I regret the money lost to this I don't regret the use I got out of it, and normally I don't go with the herd but I'm starting to think the solo may be the best bet for a reasonably priced portable even though I've never tried one. You'll love it unless it breaks, decent odds no?

I agree. I dont do any of the above. And have no issues.

And I recommend everyone get a desktop unit. You shouldn't solely use any "portable" as your only vape. Especially if you're a heavy user. Its like programming on a smart phone. It just doesn't work....

This guy knows what's up. No battery powered portable (save the persei) is going to get you clouds like you'll get from a desktop vape like the E-Nano, LSV, Herbalizer, Sublimator, Cloud, Lotus and oodles more that I probably don't know about. There is a reason we heavy tokers are disappointed by portables over and over. I am gonna grab a persei primarily for use with QWISO for on the go and that will serve me for near instant clouds and store enough oil to keep me vaked for ages, replaceable batteries (various sizes/capacities), versatile (can be assembled in smaller/larger/different looking bodies). That'll have to do, let's us heavy tokers wait until the next generation of portables before we think we're gonna get good results from portable flower vapes :)

I know the solo is great, but you aren't taking that to use in public are you?

Desktop units are great if youre just going to sit there and veg. There are far more uses for a portable than just public use. I cant use a desktop unit while Im cleaning house or doing yard work. In spite of the issues that the Pro has shown, it is also very close to being an excellent portable. It may not be perfect but it shows us that the perfect portable may be just around the corner. My Pro is working fine and its my hope that by the time it dies, there will be an excellent alternative available. If they tweak and build on what they have now, Pinnacle may just hit the sweet spot with the next version. They came close ( barring a few issues) with this unit. One thing I hope they build on is the heating chamber. I really like the whole bullet bowl/ even heating solution. Pinnacle is headed in the right direction.

Two things I want to put in to the conversation.

1. My first PnP broke, it had cascading red lights. I assumed this was some problem with the heating element or battery. So since getting it back I've made sure to cool down the unit very well. I take out the cartridge and breathe in cold air to not let it stew around in heat. Is this a proper thing to be doing with it? I haven't noticed any problems and it has lasted longer than the first one.

2. With the bullet case, all you need for a better seal is a square of cellophane underneath the lid with the edges hanging out. Seals it nice and tight. Nothing spills out and the bullets don't rattle.
