So I've managed to figure out a few things (ah the learning curve).
First, my Sleek Honest lighter improved GREATLY once I bled the lighter completely dry, and refilled with my NEON 5x filtered butane (Thanks @Fenton Mewley, the unit without any tip appeared to fit best, but when I tried tip1 - it worked perfectly!) - the lighter is working much better

Also, I keep managing to combust! 3 or 4 times so far! Thankfully I'm not wasting a lot of herbs practicing, but wow! This thing vapes FAST! Since I'm rather hyperactive (And a bit flashy), I'm starting to 'dance' the torch around. I control my temperature by the number quick circles around the center before I pull back for a half a second and repeat. For now I'm only doing 2 or 3 circles before quickly pulling back, but It seems to be helping to keep the temperature lower.

ohh a j hook stand nice!!! Also a good idea for bubblers would be a rubber "frisbee" 1/2 or "sleeve" that fits around the base to increase balance on those wobbly setups. Keep those great ideas coming!!!

Indeed, I need to play around with a few different designs, but I'll throw the prototypes up for anyone who wants to see my work and encourage further development. If any of pieces don't fit your piece, I can always customize a design to fit your specific piece.

Can you PM me a picture of an unstable glass base that you think could use a more stable base? You mean like a base for an ash-catcher? That should be really easy to make.

Day 2 on the Lotus I love it and as detailed it's quite a long learning curve to perfect I guess

Q. How many vapes do you get out of a bowl? I get 5 or 6 with the solo I manage 20 odd

Learning with ya brother!

While I've never used the Solo, my Davinci Ascent was similar, long sessions with many draws. But the Lotus is a completely different beast. I find myself getting around 4-5 draws before my ABV is chocolate brown. But I also use much less herb with the Lotus, so I get nearly 10-15 draws on the same amount of herb I would pack into my Ascent.

I'd love to see some specific designs about the Lotus here as well... :(

We are getting more and more accessory makers for more and more vapes which is a great thing! But for forum organizational purposes we don't want any more than a link to their thread. Otherwise we get a bunch of cross chatter that will ultimately lead to advertising one product in another product's thread. Bop on over to Ratchett's thread and get that thread moving...that's what will get his business moving anyhow!

Very true. The J-hook stand I was referring will probably universal design for any glass j-hook. But if I do design something Lotus-specific like a padded lotus carry case/sleeve, is it ok to share on this thread (As long as I don't cross-post the same content on my other thread)? Or would you rather I post on my thread and link to it from here?

I certainly don't want to step on anyone's toes!

IMO it is a bit aggressive modding to relocate these posts to the other 3d printing thread.

I am a Lotus user and would love to see products that are designed for the Lotus in this thread, without having to sort through any other hodgepodge.

After all, we discuss other Lotus accessories in this thread, like water pipes- and those do not require to be relocated to the Glass section of the forum. :)

Personally, I would buy a case for the cap- it being the only part that really needs protection when traveling.

I get what you guys are saying, and I agree that it is easier to have everything lotus related in the lotus thread. What we want to avoid is two pages of discussion in this thread about another vendor's development of products. It's all about keeping this place clean, organized and symbiotic. How about this...let's keep the discussion of the development and need for these products in Ratchett's thread and then link to the finished products here. Does that sound like it would make us all happy?

P.S. -- I don't want this to sound like it's about Ratchett. We have at least four accessory vendors making stuff for at least five different vapes.

Sorry to go off tangent, I do understand your reasoning and will go back to the main topic:)

I am really excited to be taking the Lotus on it's first camping trip for a week. I am having a tough time deciding whether or not to bring the water piece as well- I have fallen in love with vaping through water and don't want to leave it behind!

No worries @stickstones I agree completely with your sentiment. From now on I'll post 3D related stuff when I actually have a working/finished accessory. For anyone thinking of some custom accessory, please head over to my official thread and post pictures/dimensions/questions.

Shifting gears now, last night I really started to get the hang of vaping with the Lotus (didn't combust once!). Although my Honest lighter is working slightly better with my "Neon" brand butane, I'm still having issues with the torch sputtering out when I get the inner flame too close to the plate - just past the tip and I can hear it start to sputter (if I keep it there a millisecond longer, it goes out, if I pull back in time, it doesn't go out). Anyone else having this issue? Thinking about going to a nearby cigar shop to see what kind of gooseneck torches they have (my LHS only had one for $20 and it didn't look like it was very good).

Tried to switch hands and use the lighter with my other hand (Injured right thumb/palm in the gym the other night, hurts to hold down the trigger on the lighter). Ended up accidentally burning my finger really bad on the lotus cap.

Pro-tip for first/second degree burns - skip the burn ointment and use a bit of yellow mustard instead! It not only soothes the pain instantly, but it seems to greatly speed up healing.

I really like this lighter. EBAY LINK for a little bit better price.

I know I've mentioned this before, but this lighter works much better than the Honests that I've acquired:

Actually, over time I've come to the conclusion that lighter quality is probably an over-looked factor in terms of vaping enjoyment and quality.

It's a tank, holds a ton of "tane", has a flame on lock and safety lock, sits perfectly in my hand with a nice angle, and the best part (that I was unaware would be so nice) is that the outside of the nozzle barely gets warm after a session. Plus I had it personalized for a certain special vape I have come to thoroughly enjoy. :brow:

My girlfriend is nagging the hell out of me about my clicking lighter at night. My Honest takes 2-5 tries before I get a flame, and the "click, click, click, click, shhhhhhhhh" jet sound is driving her nuts.

Are those lighters y'all recommended [above] quiet? Or should I just order more Honests and hope I get one that is more consistent?

I find it interesting, it appears from all the feedback on FC that the more expensive lighters are no more reliable. I would have thought otherwise, but thanks to this forum I am glad I did not waste any money on fancy torches.

Get a new girlfriend lol

Oh and wanted to report I figured out how to turn that lighter up and now it is working just fine. I retract my before statement and now I would recommend it.

LOL~ she is a good one though... puts up with all my habits and hobbies:D

FWIW~ I am finding I get the best results with a larger than recommended flame. With low heat, I find myself needing to keep the torch on nearly the whole hit. With it cranked up, heavier clouds come nearly immediately then I lay off the lighter. With a hot torch, I find the cap retains a lot of heat to continue to pull after the flame has been removed.

I am typically waving the torch over the bowl two times per pull, and it is vaping the bud much more consistently and slowly. I am definitely getting more pulls per load as well.

The Lotus [er Ping Pong]... is not the macarena. It takes patience. She is like a fine, well-aged prostitute; it takes years to learn her tricks.
She is cruel, laughs at you when you are naked, but you keep coming back for more, and more! Why? Because she is the only prostitute I can afford.

Got two new pipes coming in just for the Lotus dry style! This ninja turtle pipe is around $50 at most places, not the source though:http://www.dhgate.com/product/ninja-turtles-glass-smoking-pipes/184398626.html#s1-1-1|1073732176

Also got this dirt cheap Sherlock:http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/wsc-1007glass-smoking-pipes-13cm/184399170.html

As always will report how they work for the Lotus!
My shipment came and the Sherlock is the exact as my curvy from pd as far as form and function. Although it isn't thick and being only ten more bucks the quality of the curvy makes it an easy win of the two. The turtle pipe looks identical to the pics, as did the Sherlock, but the stem is so small/short (think mflb stem) a whip is needed. It works but seems silly this way for sure. Without the whip it is very hard to control your temp, bc of the short stem it is very easy to toast your load. A cool novelty however, I keep it on the shelf to protect my collection.

In that case, it sounds like I need to simply get another honest and try for better luck. It is taking more and more clicks before firing.

Thanks

5 of them from Fastech was only $11 something.
Worth that to me, first one works great. We'll see about the rest over time.

Edit to add: Thick-quality-glass has that 18mm j-hook in stock, and a sale for April. 15% off with code 15off4april

Bought two of these on sale for $5, just opened em up and they are perfect for your Lotus and wpa!!! It's like it was made exactly for this purpose, jackpot!

I love it! This looks like an awesome solution! How much side-to-side play does the lotus have in the case? Will the lotus bounce around? Nice find!

I've already shared the Lotus with 4 good friends (I'm the only vape guy, all the rest combust daily). I think I just sold at least 2 Lotus''! Ha ha ha ha, man they never expected a vape to act like the Lotus! Awesome job @Max Jitter , I'm loving the Lotus - So simple, so elegant.

When my fancy Ascent (first 'nice' vape) failed after 1 month, I knew I had to find a reliable vape that would last session after session. The Lotus fit the bill in every way.

I would gladly pay extra to have a Lotus custom made with some exotic wood material.... Hell, my friend is a master wood turner. I bet I could easily buy a spare cap and replace the outer wooden shell with something beautiful...... Obviously voiding the warranty, but I am in love with the Lotus.
