Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

Well my EVO is down and out.... not heating up and just acting plain flaky. I am actually kind of happy as I never really connected with this EVO like I did/do with my OG ticker. From the get go I just could not love this thing. The draw is way too restricted. It vapes unevenly and I have to stir. I get dark brown almost burning right in the center of the ELB....like no turbulence going on. This will be my second EVO replacement after an initial broken bamboo. IMHO reliability remains an issue for these Cloud EVO's. My OG ticker is a tank and continues to perform flawlessly. It cashes an entire ELB perfectly even with out a fuss. I need my EVO to be even better then this and not a step backwards. Ticket opened!

P.S. I have one of the original (OG Ticker) (acquired around July '12) Clouds built by VXL themselves before the whole Cloud + and outsourcing fiasco. I think those batches of Clouds are some of the most reliable out there.

Though my EVO works perfectly and it does perform a little better than my old Cloud, I have to agree with you about the OG "ticker" being a tank and extremely reliable. I bought one of the original's back in July '12, and it worked great for all those months up until I received my EVO. I've since fired it up a few times just to compare with the EVO, and it is still working like the day it arrived.

Though I do like the EVO better, it has yet to prove its longevity to me. If it is still performing flawlessly in another year and a half, then I will consider it the better designed Cloud.

There have been some issues with the international evo's, my unit sometimes fails to register the temp and the light doesn't go green but still heats up. I have also recently noticed that the bamboo can get so hot it glows bright orange with heat.

I just wanted to confirm the bamboo is not supposed to get so hot it glows bright orange, correct?

@vakedcow I've been doing the reset but even whilst sitting there watching it my bamboo went from normal to bright orange in a few minutes. I was at 12 turned it to 2pm, waited a few mins figured it should be hot (no green light) did a reset and bam it was already glowing! Be careful. I was happy doing the reset past few days but now this glow scares the sh*t out of me, happens so quick!

Yeah how is your cycler? I have to fill it up so high to get it to actually recycle whilst in use with the evo. And when i say high i mean less than 1/4" under the water guard so high water is coming into the bottom safety catchment chamber. sux. Ive played with lower water level so much, recycles beautifully with no evo obstruction but to get it to cycle it has to be VERY high.
My cycler is completely different to the pictures posted earlier from vxl, and different again from other versions i've seen in videos. My funnel chamber is huge. I'll get some pics up soon. It is very beautiful.

yeah the heating power is imense, got to watch it good.
Funny thing seems the longer I use it the more seldom I get the issue... or maybe I just power cycle to much now

The cycler seems to behave the same for me, that I need to fill it just under the inner tube rim but it does give some recycler action with even lower water level.
Empty pulls are just not consitent to pulls on the evo..
Needs more experimenting :science:

Bummer. I'm kind of experiencing the same thing - Cloud vs Evo. I thought I was over it when I got my Evo back and recalibrated with what looked like a new bamboo, but I just can't seem to settle down and use the Evo exclusively. My OG unit just seems to have a higher heat output and doesn't get nearly as hot. I thought their performances were on par with one another but as I use them side-by-side more and more that just isn't the case. Kind of torn between what to do.

I agree with the above, this Cloud+ i'm using now is really impressing me. Easier airflow, and I can crush entire full ELBs easily, although I think the ABV was more even with the EVO. I have also noticed I enjoy using the dry mouthpiece more with the Cloud+ than the EVO. Although there are significants steps forward with the EVO (detachable power cord), overall IMHO the higher heat output of the OG and Cloud+ and more responsive temperature algorithm make it more of a pleasure for me to use personally.

Almost there...
My EVO has me sweating right now!!
1/4 ELB full of Violator Kush, i left it for a while to dry out a bit more.

3 super milky hits and the sweats are still going!
Punch to the face tonight!!

EDIT: And again with OG Kush!
Feels crazy!

I think i get this vape signature thing!

So, I've had the Evo for a few weeks now and I've been very happy. My Cloud+ didn't work long enough for me to give a real comparison, but they are both fantastic vapes when working. I'm not sure if I have a problem now, so I'm coming to the experts.

When I first took delivery of my Evo, I fired it right up and set the knob to 12 oclock. I always fill the ELB with roughly .1g (+/- .02) of premium flowers and had great results. I had some nice clouds, and lighter ABV than what I'm used too (closer to oatmeal than chocolate) from my LSV. However, it was evenly colored and I was sufficiently baked and am anything but a cloud chaser. So I pretty much maintained this same routine and would sometimes bump the knob to almost 2 oclock to make sure my ELB was cashed. Then one day, after doing my same routine, I noticed I was exhaling cumulus clouds, practically coughing from the more potent taste (definitely that burnt popcorn taste/smell). So I dialed the knob back to around 11 and still noticed the same thing. I took the ABV out and it was a dark dark brown. We're talking Hershey's Dark chocolate. I started putting the knob at 9 oclock and it was bearable but still more harsh then what I'm used to. Now I just put the knob at the lowest setting and gradually move the knob up to the 9 oclock position until its cashed. My unit still gets the job done, but my ABV isn't that even, its really dark in some areas and more normal in others. I love this unit, but the sudden change in its behavior has gotten my attention, and it seems abnormal that 7-9 oclock is the only usable range now for flowers. Opinions, suggestions?

Did you check to make sure the bamboo isnt cracked?

Did you check to make sure the bamboo isnt cracked?

I can't see any cracks, but I did try sealing the bottom with my finger and exhaling/inhaling. I was able to inhale and exhale air (with some restriction though) with my finger providing a seal to the bottom part of the bamboo/glass. It dawned on me that this isn't the most scientific test, and I was unsure if the bamboo is only has openings at the top and bottom, so I didn't mention it in the previous post.

EDIT:
Just shined a flashlight down in there, and I do believe the bamboo is broken :(. Its hard to tell but the coloring of the glass makes a distinct difference almost halfway down. The thought of my baby going down for a week or 2 is horrifying! But this explains the small cut on my hand I got the other day. I was scrolling my mouse around and felt a sharp pain in my palm. I was able to get the piece out of my hand but never actually found/saw it. I had no idea what it was but I started bleeding a fair amount for such a small cut. It was at my computer desk so I was lost as to what could have cut me like that, but not anymore. I've definitely done a few ELB-less pulls from my EVO since then (baked and forgot to place ELB back in) and its kind of scary to think that I might have inhaled something like that.

Well hopefully this goes better than my Cloud+ repair.

Evo rocked up in sydney today.

Packaging is just stupid, one standing hight drop would break it for sure. Everything should be bubble-wrapped, not filled in with loose packing.

Besides that, works perfectly, one instance of green/red issue, 12' restart fixed it.

About 10 ELBs in, we'll see how we go.

It ruined a speech of mine today.

EDIT:

Intl. Evo still working fine, maybe 30 ELBs over 2 sessions.

Still only one green/red instance.

Two ticks heard, one upon each cool-down. Both sounded like movement between two surfaces, rather than cracking.

Swagger barrel is a bit chat, can't really rip on it at all. Still decent but, and very well made.

I would leave it on all the time, but I don't trust the circuitry yet, so the glass will have to bear that problem.

Fingers very crossed. Self very impressed.

Well hopefully this goes better than my Cloud+ repair.

If you seal a tube and air escapes, there is a problem.
The bamboo has TWO openings, one at the top and one at the bottom.
Seal one up and blow through the other gently and you should not be able to release any air.
If air is escaping and it is not from your finger or around your lips, then the bamboo is cracked.

So far repairs have been handled extremely well for the EVO!!
Expensive to ship it back but for me the whole process took 2 weeks from Canada.
And now the EVO works as it should!

@lazylathe - made an observation that is in tune with what SM55 said - some of the older Cloud+ and OG were running too hot. Now, while someone such as myself doesn't mind because I rather have the power there, it does lead to sometimes over brown ABV and the potential for combustion although I personally have never combusted. I think with the EVO they wanted to make sure that MAX temp wouldn't get to this point, and I can see why. For high temp vapists 3-max on the EVO is awesome for tasty thick vapour which produces very even fully extracted ABV. I'm starting to realize that it's more about the extraction than simply the colour of ABV.

Interesting to hear some people reporting ticking, popping, or crackling sounds. Never once heard a peep out of the EVO, and I definitely put it to work.

Red hot bamboo has reared it's bastard bastard, caught it quickly, cool down was ok. Two ELBs since have been ok, close shave i hope. I wrap it in a pillow to cool down as slow as possible.

This kraken is all pervasive, it seems.

Im waiting for the 220V model to be stocked in Australia (should be out next week) do you think i should get this even though there are overheating issues or just go the 110V and put a power converter on it? And what are peoples favorite Hydrotube? i cant decide if i want the Hydratree, Circ or Hydraline. Does anyone have any of the 3 and can elaborate of how they function?

Where is it being stocked, may I ask?

Tough call I think its more a question of waiting for the 220 to get sorted out first or getting the 110 right away. Personally I wouldn't be buying the 220 at the moment considering the current experiences. I'm suprised to hear its going to be stocked next week.

hey Teedub,

Have you heard back from the Vapexhale team yet regarding the support side of things for the faulty units?

It is being shipped this week to Australian Vaporizers so might be a week or 2 but i contacted VapeXhale a few days ago and was told that. I have been waiting for ages for the 220V and could have just bought the 110V weeks ago, but i dont mind all i want is a working unit.

Fuck Vaporizer Combustion
I got my Evo about a week and a half ago, but I suspect it's about to head back to VXL HQ. I'm having the "doesn't get very hot" issue that others here have reported; support ticket has been filed.

Mostly I feel relieved that I didn't get rid of my OG Cloud, because it still works fine despite having a broken bamboo. On that subject, does anyone happen to know if it's possible to fix a bamboo in the original Cloud?

We still have a relatively small sample size we are dealing with but to the best of our knowledge the issue with the broken bamboos is that MOST LIKELY, they are being damaged in transit. We will be doubling up on the amount of bubble wrap and styrofoam to give the packaging more cushion during transit. As always, if you guys experience any problems, we will take care of you.

Just got my EVO this morning after VXL comped me overnight shipping. The packaging was sub-par at best,so that's definitely the problem your experiencing SM55.

The unit was nice looking, very light after picking it up. I had my unit on at 12 for about 5 minutes. And I wasnt getting much vapor. I cranked her up to 3;00 and was getting great size clouds. My EVO seemed really hot though, it was making the hyrdatube get warm on the bottom.

Is there ever problems with a UNIT getting way to hot? besides that already loving it.

Something tells me that these bamboos are not of the same quality as the originals. I do not recall so many broken bamboos until the EVO arrived. You might have had a broken one here or there... but these new bamboos seem to too easily broken IMHO. Still no response to my support ticket...

Edit: My ticker will never leave my sweaty palms.... love that thing! I want to love the EVO.... I really do.
