I agree that a great price on that Ion. I also agree that volume can be very subjective. It sounds good that you have already thought about this.
Side story: I have a massive 17'' M&M Double lattice and find that it is just too voluminous for my solo. However I paid a shit load for it so its not going anywhere. It is great for double vaping with two solos and a claisen adapter  though

I would personally go with the ion before the 60b.

An underdog should be able to milk either of them well, but might do a lil bit better with the smaller volume of the ion.

I personally prefer the clear bubbler over the ion, but since you're not interested in that one, the ion is a beast :D

The matrix perc strikes a great balance of drag (non-existent) and diffusion (fairly high) and I find it that little bit more fun to hit an ion/clear matrix bub than a stereo matrix.

I'm still not 100% sure why, but the single matrix bubs just seem that little bit better than the stereo matrix pieces IMO...
Having said that, I'm still lusting after a 60/65b :science:

How do you guys feel about the can size on the matrix bubbler (non-ion) is it still big enough to compare to a bong hit? Also it seems like the ion and normal bubbler bases are about the same size. how stable are they standing on. the ion looks bomb proof but the normal bubbler looks like it could tip over.

Well, it's way bigger than this:

and way smaller than this:

I just don't know how to compare anything to "a bong hit" when that's like asking "how long is a piece of string?"

So far as bubblers go, it (the clear) is one of the larger volume pieces I've experienced. I'm pretty sure it's got a 75mm can, and that added diameter really does add up.
(Try searching for "effective milking volume" or something like that, there was some interesting discussion about the volumes of different pieces a while back)

Also it seems like the ion and normal bubbler bases are about the same size. how stable are they standing on. the ion looks bomb proof but the normal bubbler looks like it could tip over.
They are both solid as rocks.
I've accidentally bumped the neck of my clear a few times, and it's never fallen over.
I think all the water at the bottom lowers its centre of gravity a bit.
I'm sure you could tip it over if you were trying to do so, but it's very stable IME.

@Frederick McGuire

Thanks for the advice, I just took advantage of the ALT 420 sale and got the clear matrix, can't wait to try it out! I really hope the base is sturdy with water in it, I like the base of the Ion better but I like the larger size and feel of the clear, especially being a large guy.

So how do you dab out of the Ion? I am going to buy a domeless Ti nail but the $70 HE one is DI so that won't work. InfiniTi by HE looks like it would work but I read somewhere domeless is bad for dewaar joints. Any domeless nails that you suggest getting?

I have a HE DualTi (domeless 14/18), I would use an 18/18 male to male adapter then plug it it. That's what i've seen most people use. You don't want to use the dualTi with a male joint on your glassware as it WILL get stuck. I chipped my micro bubbler trying to pull off my domeless. The best thing to do it use a male-to-male adapter. That way you protect your glass by isolating the nail from your piece and you can quickly remove it.

ALT house brand and Oregon Glass Blower on ioffer/ebay sell some nice quality adapters. Personally I like the Z adapter Oregon glass blower sells as you can reclaim easier.

Team NO SLEEP!
I am a total new guy to the Scientific Glass scene, and was hoping you all might be able to provide me with some education.

I am about to get my first scientific piece, and I keep seeing the Mobius line all over the place- rave reviews and top dollar pricing to match.

So I am curious, with the availability of cheaper overseas clones, what does one get out of a real one? Please excuse my ignorance:

Is the glass that much better? In what ways?
Is it a stronger glass? Does it provide a smoother hit?

I am just trying to understand what I would [potentially] be paying for here, and it brings me to ask two more important questions that might be of use to other's in my position (i.e.. little experience):

1) What should I be looking for in a scientific glass piece? And I mean, other than aesthetic appeal, what should I take note of?

2) More relevant to this thread- In what ways does a real Mobius hit differently than one of the many similar looking pieces from other companies?

Function can be alomst equal with todays China glass knock offs. Quality of the glass and/or craftsmenship just wont be there through.

If youre all about bang for the buck and dont care about flaws and blemishes then go China. If you want both performance and top esthetics get name brand.

I never really got into buying knock off glass. With mobius, I feel like it's almost a crime to purchase a fake. The glass this company makes is exquisite I know I wouldn't skimp on this level of quality. All a matter
Of opinion :)

Why not also take advantage of the ALT sale.
Yeah finally ordered some reall quality glass.
Couldn't resist, their glass and percs are so pretty.
Their glass does look like crystal!
It really does look like crystal so clear looking! :o

It was a tough decision and after some advice from Frederick i got myself the Ion Matrix. :brow:

what is the best way to clean and care for this beauty? is rez block worth it?

Pickup some pbw, add a few Tbl and pour some boiling water into your piece, give it about an hour to soak and it's brand new. I run hot water from the tap on my piece to equibrate the temp. Plain ISO and salt works too, but pwb gets in ever nook and cranny with its foaming action.

Awesome!! Thank you!!

What about using distilled water vs filtered water? Is distilled worth the extra effort?

I use tap water w/ pbw then an iso wash then rise with tap water again, and fill with filtered water. DI water would be optimal but I'm I clean my glass everyday and DI water is a pain to keep luging from the store.

Hate to say this but I think I would of liked the Ion more than the Clear matrix, the clear has a huge chamber! The clear is hands down the best piece I've used for burning flower but its hard to milk vapor with the HI, both the HI and my lungs run out of power right after I get a nice milk going. With a smaller piece it's not an issue. It's more that the piece is too powerful, 1 big hit and the bowl is 75% done haha.

Dont tell me this tight after i get the clear piece haha. I almost got the ion too!! And i only didnt because they were out of stock and now theyre back in stock haha. Im sure the evo could get some milk out of it though ;))

The only part i am worried about is getting a good seal on the mouthpiece. Im hoping mobius doesnt have huge mouthpieces otherwise ill have to send her back. Ive had issues with this in the past especially buying glass online. Fingers crossed

I keep scratching my veins looking at the 60b on discount at ALT but worry it's too big just for use with a Solo. I can't even get my 10inch Simba frit (has kind of a skinny can) to REALLY MILK, just get light fogs.
