You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
@tuk whoa I say this with all due respect but maybe you should "slow your roll" so to speak. Why in the world are you defending Simba? Did you get a piece from them? The "mob" is not bringing terror and telling tales to curb cheap glass. No not at all I believe they want cheap glass and QC which I agree most China stuff doesn't qualify, though we have found a few diamonds in the rough. DS is a pro when it comes to glass and he can get amazing deals from top blowers. He is mad at Simba not you, but you seem mad at him? I'm a huge supporter of cheap quality glass and I know DS is too, so I see this as just being crossed. Trust me, pm DS, he is a stand up guy!

Even if DS was a tad hyperbolic in his assessment (I don't think he was). Set that aside. The piece flaking apart is more than enough reason to be dissatisfied.

Also the piece was made with an dewarr (internal) joint for a downstem (externally).
Rather than repeating the same answer over and over it might easier to go back read how I answered the first time round.

Anyway, none of it matters now, deadshort420 almost died from inhaling bits of glass surely he won't be ordering any more cheap glass from dubious sources.

DS is a pro when it comes to glass and he can get amazing deals from top blowers.

Then he is in the wrong thread!

I'm also done in this thread ..knock yourselfs out!

'Scare mongering' is in relation to "swallowing glass" ...do I really have to ask the same question a third time?

Or maybe the lack of answer is an answer in itself?

Whether or not anyone here can produce evidence of a documented case of silicosis due to the inhalation of glass shards via a poorly made fritted water pipe, the fact remains that 1) such degradation of a brand-new $100 U.S. made water pipe is completely unacceptable, and 2) inhaling glass dust or shards is a serious enough health risk that it deserves to be taken seriously, even if the chance of it actually happening is minimal.

Anybody wanna help a fella get this roor drop to $300. We need 11 more! I sincerely doubt there will be any glass issues with this one :smug:

Also, MFLB drops end soon! Damn good deals all over the place to kill these vibes

Last time I checked, you cant have a fact without supporting evidence ...conjecture is not evidence, so not only does your fact not remain, it never existed in the first place.

I don't think you understood the structure of my sentence.

Accepted-as-Fact 1: Having a brand-new $100 purchase literally fall apart as you use it is unacceptable. Supporting evidence of this can be found pretty much everywhere you look within a capitalist society. Companies that sell shoddily made, moderate-to-high priced products tend not to earn repeat customers or achieve tremendous success, so we can therefore surmise that selling defective products is unacceptable from the point-of-view of the average consumer.

Opinion-based-on-Fact 2: Inhaling glass dust or shards is a serious enough health risk that it deserves to be taken seriously, even if the chance of it actually happening is minimal. Google "silicosis" if you have any doubt about the severity of this health risk. In the meantime, let me be VERY specific for you....

Fact:
Inhaling glass particles/shards/pieces is extremely detrimental to your health.
Opinion: That means that situations in which there is even a minimal chance of inhalation ought to be taken seriously, not mocked.

By the way, if you need to resort to quibbling over the dictionary definition of "fact" to try and keep your argument afloat, the fact is, your position is a weak one. :D

He'll I'm not offended I didn't blow the thing. Well to be completely honest, I had not yet noticed the Dewaar fitting as I had not tried to put on a Keck clip. The only downside that I can see to this is the Keck clip thing and the thin lip which may be more prone to break than an uber joint. Would I demand a refund, no. I like the thing. Would I refuse some means of compensating for an incorrect product , no. My :2c: On the frit thing. I have never owned one, but I can see where loose bits of glass inside would be bad and I would personally not be happy with that. :shrug:Is it possible that this is somewhat normal during the creation of fritted pieces? Something that should have been caught and removed during cleaning and QC inspection. A couple of loose pieces at first maybe. But after cleaning and removing them for more to appear would be unacceptable.

We're here to fuck shit up.
First of all, this was all moved from the Cheap High Quality Glass thread which I follow. I do not follow this thread so had no idea any of this content was here. I was not tagged in any of the posts until @mrboote was kind enough to do so, so I had no idea this nonsense was going on.@tuk, I don't follow the the Cheap Glass thread that much anymore because I have moved on from the Chinese glass from Ali Ex. It was fun and all, but I'm over it. Simba is supposed to be high quality American made glass and I'm into that. My experience with the single piece I received was that it was garbage. Problems all around, some nitpicking and some serious. You may not think the POSSIBILITY of inhaling glass flakes is something serious, but no one cares what you think. The thing here is that I don't need to prove a damn thing to you because in the long and short of it, you do not matter. I don't know you, you don't know me, you have nothing to do with this, yet you are extremely, near annoyingly, vocal about my situation. Sounds like you have a problem with me. Don't understand it and don't care to. You sound like you think you know everything so take a guess how I feel about your comments and you as a person.

Anyway, I received word from Massdrop that Simba will be handling the issues with glass directly and that MD will be sending a replacement Ti nail in a couple of weeks. I've emailed Simba with the pictures of the cosmetic issues, the bubble (almost hole) in the joint, and the picture of the couple dozen glass shards thats have dislodged from the perc after two rinse and shakes.

Well I finally got my White Lion in today after the post office lost it. :|
After reading all this I had prepared myself for the worst but I think I actually lucked out!

Aside from it being 18mm I don't see any issues aside from a scratch inside the mouthpiece tube that nobody would see and some black specks under the base. I will say that there should have been consistency in the pieces received and I understand the frustration. Luckily I have a reducer so I'm not overly aggravated.

I didn't even bother to put water through my piece - receiving this annoyed me enough that I've asked Massdrop for a refund.

Did they get back to you? They told me to contact Simba directly, which I did yesterday, and haven't heard anything back yet.

I sent it back to Massdrop using the sender's address on the package, then got in touch with them saying I wouldn't expect anything less than a refund (had they refused, my next step would have been to call my credit card company and do a chargeback for item not as described). Fortunately, they are willing to provide a refund, but they're asking me to have the package rerouted so that it goes directly back to Simba.

I think Massdrop is a great idea, but they failed in a big way here. If they're going to act as the middleman, then they should also be doing quality control (especially obvious things like glass nails that should not have been sent out in the first place) and post sale support, instead of having customers deal with the vendor.

I too am not very happy dealing with Simba directly. Massdrop should be taking care of this. All I wanted was a return shipping label and a refund. Now it's a pain in the ass. Who knows when I'll hear back from Simba? Who knows what they're actually going to do to make this right.

Simple lessons learned from this, no more Simba and no more Massdrop. This has been a beyond disappointing experience.

Simba really blew it here by offing obvious "seconds", not Massdrop's fault though.
I agree with you. I do not expect the people at Massdrop to know anything about glass. My problem is having to deal with Simba directly. I sent my money to Massdrop so I expect Massdrop to take care of the problems, returns, exchanges, etc. I don't know if I want am exchange. I'm all for letting someone make right their wrongs, but I think I would rather just return the faulty item and get a refund. Massdrop should be able to handle a return and refund without handing me off to the glass maker, in my opinion.

Looking all over Massdrop's website and seeing this on the How It Works page:

"Community Seal of Approval
All of our products have been voted, debated and selected by the community as the best. You can buy with confidence even if you aren't familiar with a certain product."

Then the only remotely related disclaimer that can be applied to the Simba issue (but falls under the "Warranty" section of the Terms page) is:

"WARRANTY
To determine if your item is eligible for a warranty return, review the paperwork that came with the merchandise or contact the manufacturer for specific details. In the event that the product purchased experiences defect or failure which otherwise would be covered by the product’s manufacturer warranty, please contact Massdrop via support@massdrop.com with a description of your problem along with your Massdrop Order ID.

Massdrop will request for the product to be sent back to a specified return address (which will be provided to you via email). Upon receipt of the defective product, Massdrop will make every effort possible to ensure your satisfaction by shipping you a replacement product. Massdrop will pay for all shipping costs related to warranty service. Massdrop also reserves the right to refund the purchase price as its exclusive warranty remedy."

What kind of warranty comes with glass pipes?

I feel MassDrop is just as responsible as Simba is here. I also think MassDrop should be handling the returns/refunds and BS. Or they should at least work together with Simba on opening a better line of communication with the end consumer.

I heard back from Simba. They wanted my address so they could send a replacement. I told them I did not want a replacement frit piece because I don't trust it and if a replacement was the only viable option then I wanted the White Lion piece instead because people actually seem to be happy with that one.

The thing in the email that did not make me happy at all was the passing of the blame onto UPS. I was told that 90% of the issues with the glass was due to poor shipping and handling by UPS. I suppose the UPS guy opened my package, threw my piece in a kiln, fucked up the neck, the dome, the base, the coloring, the frit, and then created a huge bubble in the joint. Just be a fucking man and take responsibility for putting out work that looks like hammered shit. Trying to make things right by offering a replacement is a step in the right direction, but blaming UPS for what Simba fucked up is beyond pathetic.

I didn't go for the Simba drop, but I've done about 4 successful other drops and they were all handled great, I wouldn't crucify MassDrop for this, some percentage of all their drops are bound to have problems, maybe this one was just unlucky and I doubt Simba will be offered again on the service after this fiasco.

I hope everyone who got jacked finds a workable resolution.

Just because it's Simba's fault for shoddy workmanship doesn't mean it's not Massdrop's responsibility to take care of its customers. The pieces were shipped from MD's warehouse, so they had plenty of opportunity to notice what was up. It sucks to be in MD's position right now, but they wouldn't have such a big mess to clean up had they been more proactive about quality control.
