The Lotus Vaporizer

The metal stem took some getting used to for me as well. A bit harder to dial in technique without the visual feedback of a glass piece. I've got it down pretty well now, can get consistent hits as long as my lighter cooperates. Try holding the tip of your tongue just in front of the vapor path. You can gauge the temp of the vapor coming through better that way. Eventually you should be able to tell by temp if the vapor is too hot, too cool, or just right.

Yes, yes and yes ;-)
Hash is nice on a second screen or on a green bed if it is unpressed "kief" or bubble. A bowl can go very kick if you want and if you master the technique !
:hmm:
EDIT @cityslang simply misunderstanding with thca , my mistake...sorry
However, yes it is possible to get to 220/230c° considering abv would look brown/dark brown...i usually don't get there cause it is also composed of nasty gas.

Well it arrived and I love it already quick and easy. Only tried Amnesia Haze so far on the maiden voyage but I can see how great hash/oil cakes will be. Think I may break out the oil I've been saving for a couple of weeks

So £95 for a lighter & a pipe = happiness

E2A : Butane all I can find is Ronson or Bull Brand? Have one of each the Bull Brand worked OK. Its all low end cheapo butane round here. It's hard to find butane because everyone uses the 10 disposable lighters for £1 these days and those who don't want budget butane. I'm assuming the Ronson & Bull Brand aren't much cop?

This is a prototype but it will prevent burned fingers and dropped WPA's. Send a stamped, self-addressed envelope and $1 and we'll send you a handle and an extra o-ring. Be sure to line the handle up with the magnet when you install it.

Personally I don't use brandy butane for lighters and it seems ok... Sometime they got tricky but there is a fix and if not..a spare one !

Hey all!

As expected, my J-hook WPA kit was delivered today!! Actually left work a bit early so I could start sooner (Doctors Appointment )

I'll post an update later on first impressions, but for now, I am having a bit of an issue with the Sleek lighter (surprise surprise). When I tried to fill the lighter using the "Neon" brand 5x filtered butante (previously mentioned 20+ pages back), it sputtered all over the place - couldn't fill the damn thing! There are other tips included in the top of the lid, but I don't see one that will fit......

I ended up filling the unit with Ronson which had no problem filling the unit, but it's sputtering like a POS. I figure that's the butane causing it to sputter, right? I believe I have the flame set correctly - my inside flame (nice sharp point) is about 10mm long - is that about right? It's hard to measure that outside flame.... Maybe I need to burp the unit (I did purge the unit before filling)

When I get the tip on the plate, it seems to sputter out very easily - I suspect the problem is the butane

Off to clean my brand new D020!! It's in perfect shape (for a KO, it's nearly flawless), Gonna be a fun night :science:

I found some really old butane at my parent's house about a month ago. It's also by Neon, but it doesn't state how refined it is, nor when it was made. Looks like a can from the 90s.

Anyways, I've only used that butane for 1 lighter, so I could see if there might be any problems that occur. When I went to refill the lighter, I noticed some orange gunk on the nozzle. That might be due to the age of butane or the potentially low refined butane, so make sure to check the nozzle and wipe it down if you're going with a lower quality butane.

Tip #1 on the Neon cap fits into the basic Honest lighter, and worked with my Xing lighter too, so try using that tip. I wouldn't think the intake would be much different. #1 even fits soft flame lighters (refillable Bics).

It could be the butane that causes sputtering, but it could also be the lighter. I'm also thinking how you start the lighter affects sputtering too. As the instructions say, slowly squeeze the ignitor so that you hear some butane flowing, then spark the lighter.

I think that if you continually "top off" the lighter, then you should burp when having troubles. But you shouldn't need to burp it after you have filled it from factory empty since there wouldn't be any residual butane vapor affecting the lighter.

So just now, I had to replace my screens because they are clogged. Instead of the usual iso wash (feeling lazy at the moment), I decided to try to vape the gunk.

Using 1 clogged screen at a time, I vaped the empty bowl, letting my Lotus glow brighter than usual, to great results. Not only did I get fat vapor, but it cleaned the screens quite nicely.

Ok, you guys have sold me, I'm finally going to jump on board the Lotus train. Going for the full kit.
Best to buy direct from Lotus? Is there an FC code?
TIA

6 or 1/2 doz. I ordered my first kit from ezvapes and my second (WPA kit) directly from MT.

I think the EZV order arrived much sooner, but if you order from MT you can get more accessories. I'd recommend the complete pipe, WPA, J hook and a shit load of screeens. Keeping the screens fresh improves performance IME. The Honest lighter is OK too, but I'd spend a little more and get a bigger torch somewhere else as you'll probably do this eventually anyway.

BTW, impressive lineup you have there.

Ok, I'm back for a first impressions review

I ordered the black Lotus WPA J-hook kit, Thankfully it arrived today as I was growing extremely tired of my knockoff EasyVape (I hated the taste!). The Lotus cap was lighter than I expected, but I was overall very pleased with the construction. My only disappointment is that I opted for black, I was hoping it would still show the wood grains, but it doesn't. I will certainly recommend the natural finish to all my friends! Hell, I might just buy a natural wood Lotus and sell my black one to a friend! I only wish they had other wood options like Cherry, and Burl Wood (ooo I'd pay extra for a beautiful burl piece!)

I regretted not purchasing the scoop - but I'll probably have a 3D printed scoop by tomorrow afternoon! ;). Thankfully I thought to order extra screens! I loosely packed my first bowl about 3/4 full (ambitious and looking for clouds!!). Followed the instructions for filling the lighter with Ronson Butane (damn Neon butane - need to figure out which is Tip#1), adjusted the flame (bright inner flame around 10mm). And enjoyed my first session. The taste was decent, And I had amazing control over the temperature! First try and I was already soaring!

But I wasn't quite impressed with the taste, so I tried again, with a much smaller pack (just enough to cover the screen). And the taste was great! I will confess, The taste from the Lotus on a fresh bowl is delicious, but I get 3-4 much tastier draws at 330F from my DV Ascent.

I suspect this is merely a matter of flame control, seeing as how this is my first butane powered vape! I'm still trying to get the hang of the Lotus and the torch, I need to find some better quality butane to better control my temperatures. But all in good time, for a start, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. One issue I have noticed is that I still have a few green spots right next to the nearly black ABV - even after stirring once or twice in the session, I can't seem to get a consistent chocolate brown color - maybe because my cheap grinder isn't grinding fine enough? Doesn't seem to be an issue with my Ascent.....

Unfortunately I quickly noticed that the stir stick prevented me from fully inserting the lotus cap onto the WPA with my 18-14mm reducer on the D020. Fortunately, as others had mentioned, I was able to bend it slightly outwards, and allow for proper alignment. I was expecting the stir stick to put up a fight, but it bent with very little force. I'm a little worried about the stick coming lose (no signs yet it will come loose, but there is now a gap where the glue has separated from the stick). Maybe @Max Jitter can suggest some adhesive to dab around the stir stick to ensure it won't get knocked loose in travel

So far I have equally enjoyed both the J-hook and the D020. I'm a bit concerned about how dark my ABV is, but that'll come with practice I think, it's certainly not as easy as my Ascent to select a vaping temperature and not go any higher.

I have also noticed it's really hard to see the glowing red spot on my Lotus - even when not slowly moving my torch, it takes a fair amount of time for the plate to start glowing. This is in my basement with the lights off! Heck, on my 4th session with the Lotus, I managed to combust! I think this was because I was overheating the plate trying to obtain the red glowing dot.

Overall, this Lotus will be a great companion to my DV ascent. I think these two vapes will keep me happy for a while...... until VAS kicks in again and I feel the need for an Extreme Q or some other quality desktop vape.

Now it's time to start designing some 3D printed Lotus accessories!!
I'm working on the models now, should have a few prototypes on my etsy store in a week or so (I'll post pictures of my progress). Current accessories I'm working on: Mini Scoop, J-Hook Stand, Rubber Padded Carry "case" for the Lotus Cap + WPA

Awesome report!

For better color consistency on your vaped bud:

1) Stir after each draw, every time.

2) For me, spinning the cap back and forth while drawing is FAR more affective in spreading the temperature, than using the recommended method of moving the red spot around on the dimple.

Thanks! I was stiring between each draw, but still wasn't getting full even color, maybe it's also because I like to take quick shorter draws (I don't need "Milk") - I like to extend my session a bit more than 1 or 2 minutes!

Thanks for clearing up the spinning the cap - I thought you spun the cap immediately after heating to optimally distribute the convection heating while drawing in. I'll have to try spinning the cap and leaving the flame stationary.

Someone linked this lighter and I bought it and it sucks. The flame is not adjustable(at least I don't awe anything to adjust) and is extremely small. From what I saw in there videos it looks like a nice big flame?

This type of torch usually has a notched sleeve around the fill nipple to adjust the flame (small standard screwdriver). Not the case with this bugger?

Team NO SLEEP!
There are a few ways of skinning the cat here, but that is what has worked for me.
In spite of having great opening sessions, you will also find there is still a learning curve on this piece before you really start getting everything out of it. I am a bit over a month with Lotus as a daily driver, and I am just now getting the WPA nice and brown, or slightly darker but not black.

After a month, I am still having to relearn the stem technique every time I use it, but I am getting better. I have never before had such a long learning curve with a piece... but it has been fun and rewarding to learn:D

ohh a j hook stand nice!!! Also a good idea for bubblers would be a rubber "frisbee" 1/2 or "sleeve" that fits around the base to increase balance on those wobbly setups. Keep those great ideas coming!!!

Ok the lighter has thrown it's toys out. Either loses pressure after a few seconds or spits out

It was Ok just suddenly started doing it. The butane just says extra refined near zero impurities what ever kind of marketing crap that is.

I used that lighter in my video, it was the only backup I had on hand when my first Honest crapped out on the first bowl.
As mentioned by someone else the adjuster is on the bottom, 2 slots that you turn with a flat screwdriver.
It's just barely big enough if you crank it way up. But it works, actually good for low temp hits.

I got my shipment of new Honest torches from Fastech.com yesterday. First one worked like a charm, file the rest away for backup.
