Discontinued The Sublimator

I'm curious about this - question for all the OG'ers - have the only people who have had wattage problems with the Sublimator been using it for dabs in addition to flowers?

I'm wondering if perhaps it boils down to the fact that whilst you *can* use the Apollo for dabs, it may not be good for its health/longevity?

I don't know what you are specifying but I don't have much of a wattage problems except the fact that it jumps at times. I don't like this but it is what it is. Using my override like everyday. In a way I feel proud to use my Sublimator everyday as intended. Dabbing is okay in the apollo. Embrace the "double decker" feature this device offers. The thing is you only want wax, crumble, honeycomb, shatter, any concentrate that will melt and leave no residue. Everything else can go sandwiched with some herbs in the atomizer below.

I rarely dabbed on my first Sublimator (brown cord version) and I had wattage drop issue. Maybe they just had some bad elements? My timer box sub is working A1 tho.

ok I been dabbing all the time on my apollo since xmas and I don't see any wattage drop..... but if I do...

I suspect the cheap dimer switch
Couldn't agree more about the empty promises and general disregard for the 1.0 customers, to the point of blaming us for using the provided override when the timer boxes broke down. Just think how easy it would have been to make the small gesture of saying, "hey why don't all you 1.0 owners register your warranty on our website, and we will send you out a moon tool in appreciation" (like they promised anyways). Hell they could have included a t-shirt or something and we would be singing their praises instead of this crap, for a very minimal cash outlay on their part.

Instead they are reportedly already improving on and planning on monetizing the moon tool?

Even the separation of the 1.0 and 2.0 threads reeks of this perceived abandonment,
but hopefully this thread will take on more of a diy type of vibe since our ostracization :2c:.

Look ma, no timer!

The silver lining for myself (and hopefully other 1.0 owners) is that I have discovered that the sub works just fine with other dimmer/controller boxes. In fact, for this post I swapped in the ~$30 pre-made box shown above in place of my homemade one, and got over 67 watts, even better performance than the one I made, and 12+ watts over what I was getting with the stock box running at its best! This doesn't change much for me in actual use, but I'm glad that the ceiling has been raised. How many watts does the 2.0 get up to;)?

edit: I added the wink-face above because I realize that this may be hard to measure comparatively.

I also wanted to add that with my homemade box I may be able to get even more wattage, as the whole point of that box was to be able to easily swap out individual components (in this case the dimmer).

And just in case any of you were wondering,
the wires to the apollo stay cool to the touch even when on maximum power.

This is the answer to those who have low watt problems. I bet it aint your Sub that is the problem, it's your dimmer switch. I bet ya a dollar this will fix it

Wow, it took me a little digging to find the video where Enrico actually explains how this works and it seems to me that regardless of the fact that you cannot sublimate the resin in herb without combustion of the plant matter, the method of heating the vapor after it has been released seems to me the way forward.

The reason smoking is more immediately effective than vaping is that the vapor released by burning (mixed with smoke) is much finer and possibly the molecules of the active compounds are in a different energetic state. Heating the vapor after it has left the plant matter could replicate this effect.

I think Enrico's had a bit of a PR problem .. It should be easier for newbies to find the breakdown of how this works and what each of the parts does. This device is far too cumbersome and dangerous for me to use in my home and I'm not sure the price is justified but it does look like the most efficient or at least the most potent way to vape.

It would be good to see the entire atomizer encased in a ceramic jacket that fits standard 14mm joints and the heat shield on the heating element should come as standard to make this a bit safer for the average stoner!

Has anyone ever reported a major accident using a sublimator?:evil::evil: I've only heard of most of us just having forearm scars and feeling like  afterwards.

Safety is one of the reasons I've moved on to other vapes, but I was using a UFO, so even less safe for me than the plug in subs.

If you guys remember me making Doublimator 3.0, I'm starting from scratch to create "Doublimator 1.0 and "Triplimator 1.0" Will reveal the whole setup most likely by the weekend! Very optimistic about the outcome of this setup!!! Will keep you guys updated!

I use it occasionally for dabs, but most always flower. My kw meter still has a max reading of 60-67.

I'm just so sick of the variation in temperature.

I went to sleep with the Sub pulling 32-33 - I wake up and it's pulling 29-30 - no change in electrical usage in the house, and no change to the dial.

And that difference is the difference between light brown ABV and dark to the point of combustion ABV... Infuriating.

Hey guys

I got pretty sublimated some hours ago und unfortunately i kicked my Apollo off the Atomizer and it fell on some kind of polyethylene pillow and now i have black burned plastic shit on my Apollo

You know a way to clean that mess?
Can i soak the Apollo in ISO?

I don't think you should soak it in anything. I believe you are supposed to turn it to max and let whatever is on there burn off. That is what I did when my Apollo met my carpet.

Enrico recommends to follow these steps to rid away most mishaps due to accidents prior to normal use.

1 leftover denim jeans
1 pair of heat resistant gloves/mitt (optional)

Turn Sublimator to max watt (crank the dial to max) and in about 5 to 7 minutes it will be hot enough to wipe down with your jeans. I don't know how you would rid things out from the craters but let's hope you don't have that issue here. Try it and see if it works out for you. It did for me when I dropped my Apollo on the carpet floor.

Funny you should mention dropping on the carpet, I finally had my first "accident" attempting to move the Sub to another room last night while entertaining guests, I was untangling the cord and it pulled the wrong way causing the glass/sub to tip over and the sub went right to the carpet. Of course I quickly recovered everything back to standing position, and used paper towels to wipe the carpet residue off the head of the sub. I went over it again later with a cotton swab to be sure I got all of it, but the paper towel worked fine, just had to fold it a few times and be very careful not to accidentally touch the head. We have low pile office style carpet, so it wasn't a huge mess. Still sucked though, and almost a year with no incidents... :p I just decided not to relocate the sub at that point, it was obvious it didn't want to be moved from my desk in such a hurry. Was gonna take it in the other room to try to let Russ and Brian from 420radio.org try it out (they were sitting in my living room), but after all that rigga-maroo trying to upset my desk set up, I just grabbed the torch and nail. Finally had a chance to show it off to some cool people and I BLEW IT!! :tinfoil: hehehe Next time maybe??
I'm guessing they were travel weary and didn't want to get up off the couch to come use it in the other room. We were also meeting in person for the first time so there was that nervous energy. There is a slight chance at a do-over if they stay in town again tonight, but no promises.

now for the walk of shame... :disgust:

That last part:rofl: you know that's what I said in my head when I first dropped it myself accidentally and it was already too late somebody beat me to it and posted a carpet burn before me.

Not sure if this vid has been posted here before.
Great review of the sub by Hashbean from a while ago.

That one is definitely already somewhere in the thread.

I remember thinking 'what a waste of weed' - considering one hit is all you need for a while and he does like 42.

@jambandphan03 You made your interaction sound a little bit like the setup for a threesome. :-P

  • The sublimator seems more like a focused heat gun, just seems way over priced for the actual materials involved

That's extremely silly analysis.

Do you have any idea how much the components that go into your phone or laptop cost as compared with how much you end up paying?

Capitalism is about mark-ups and profit - if you don't have a product you can mark-up by a reasonable amount, how are you supposed to cover all your overheads, marketing costs, etc?

Forget electronics, do you have any idea what the difference between the cost of producing a bottle of coke is compared with what it sells for?

Ludicrous comments.

From a consumer standpoint I find it over priced in the current vape market. I'm sure the high costs associated with the sublimator are influenced by the volume they produce. The current iteration seems more like a beta product than a finished item at that price tag.

I think everybody is entitle to their opinion, that doesn't mean everybody is right.
As a machinist, I can tell you that a lot of fine craftsmanship is involved here, and materials are not cheap. I'm building my own tube for the sub and I can tell you that a lot of time has been invested in this one of a kind piece, and I can see their price tags being justified.
Just my opinion.

Hey guys I'm back!

I heated my Apollo and once it was hot I was able to wipe most of that plastic shit off but some was left one the surface.
So I decided to soak the Apollo in acetone but that didn't help. Heating the atomizer and then using a towel soaked with acetone didn't work either.
Finally I used a brass brush and carefully brushed the apollo. It looks almost like new now :)

Last thing I noticed is that when I hold my nose near the hot Apollo it smells kind of strange. It is hard to describe but doesn't smell like burned plastic.
Maybe that's just how hot stainless steel smells?
Would one of you guys mind to smell at their cold and hot Apollo? :D
