call me crazy but i want to be able to take this thing apart. got the screw out but it dont want to slide all the way out easily. anyone else do it?

As Vakedcow said, others have done it. I would not recommend it.

Those who did dismantle it mentioned O-rings that broke when they took it apart. I believe there were a few that didn't break them, but could not get them back in place. They were able to get the Pax back together and it worked without them.

BUT - since then Pax has changed their warranty. It now explicitly states that any attempt to open the Pax will void the warranty. So if those O-rings get broken (or you can't re-seat them), you will no longer have warranty coverage.

It's up to you, but I wouldn't risk my 10 yr warranty just for a peek inside.

Yes. I've done it many times. As others said, there are two O-rings around the heater that will almost certainly break or be pushed out of place if you pull the casing off. There are a few other things to be careful about as well. The micro-magnets are tiny and really easy to lose. There is a white plastic lens over the LED that is also easy to lose. If you just want to know what it looks like, I advise you to look at my pictures.

So my Pax arrived today and it took me 3 hours to actually get it ready to use... I got it and it was dead and I was bummed about that, but I got out the cool little charging cradle and it wasn't showing anything on the LED... so I left it there for an hour, nothing. Took it off, messed around with the mouth piece, put it back on, nothing... I even started doing tests on it with my multimeter to check the voltages and see if it was the correct/ wattage coming out of the charging cradle, tried to see if the prongs where extended out enough.... And THEN, I took the mouth piece off to show a friend how you change the heat settings on a working Pax and I put it on the charging cradle and it just starts charging! And I started inspecting it and it occurred to me that if they actually made it so you have to REMOVE the mouth piece to charge, then they actually put money and effort into making their product LESS simplistic and user friendly that it inherently was by their original design.... WHAT! WHY! Please tell me this isn't the case LOL

If you want to skip the rant lol...

Is it really true that you cannot charge the Pax with the mouthpiece on? :|

Ruh roh!! If you have to take the mouthpiece OFF to charge then you most likely have a counterfeit unit. I own 3 Pax and all of them charge with mouthpiece on, it has been discussed that some of the copies have that issue :(

If you paid retail and/or got at a local shop - I'd ask for a refund. If you paid very little...well that would be a sign too that it's not a legit Pax.

Retail priced, legit Pax units come with a 10 YEAR warranty.

Edited to add: You might want to read this thread: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/fake-pax-vaporizers-bootlegs.9016/

Hmm.. Okay I KNOW they are an authorized reseller or were at least. It's possible yours just isn't making connection with mouthpiece on and is a mfgr defect. Email Vapeworld, they will probably offer to swap for you - I've done business with them and always had good service.

Fingers crossed they get you squared away.

Thanks for the help! I actually charged it without the mouthpiece and now it works flawlessly, I can't find any defects thus far, charges with the mouthpiece every time I put it on the charger. I guess funky things can happen when your battery's totally flat! :spliff:

Ploom customer service is totally awesome. My pax stopped heating up so I sent it in from australia. Now my replacement is on its way back via a shipforward address. I thought it was going to be a hassle but the process and communication was simple and straightforward. Cant wait to start vaping again!

So I've tried just about every single vape there is by now and I'm an absolute perfectionist a very big health nut, and I've gotta say that this is the only vape besides the Volcano that I am just absolutely blown away by. It is my absolute overall #1 recommendation for vapes if you're going to get into vaping. There's so many problems with other vapes out on the market that I wish weren't there, poor materials, strange foolish designs that contaminate the air path, circuitry in the air path, plastic tastes, chemical tastes, this that this and that... But this thing man, I've seen it all and this thing is immaculate. I know it's a conduction unit and not much of a convection unit, but that minor loss in flavor is not even something that I'm concerned about with all the things this vape has going for it. Everything about this thing is just pure quality. The materials, there's NO burn offs and weird things needed, for the first time all materials are tasteless, odorless and extremely well rated for temperature, the air path is very well isolated, there's even silicon O-rings separating compartments of the unit inside, this whole thing is just so well engineered, and being one myself, I approve!

I give this thing two BIG thumbs up. These guys and the people at Storz & Bickel know exactly how to do things right from every standpoint.

Hey guys here's a little vid I did of my Pax with the Mobius Ion. I love the way the vapor slowly builds up into a nice thick fog...

Sick vid. I love the density of the vapor from the Pax, it's awesome! Where did you get that adapter by the way? I was looking for that but couldn't find it anywhere!

Has anyone tried water curing their buds before grinding and throwing it in the Pax? I've heard that water curing removes much of the weed smell, so I'm thinking it would be helpful in reducing the vapor smell, enabling surreptitious use of the Pax in public areas. As I understand it, the gist of water curing involves soaking the buds in room temperature distilled water for a few days, carefully changing the water daily. The chemicals that produce some of the odors are water soluble and wash away with the water.

For less than $200 I can think of five pocket-size vapes I'd rather have than Pax by Ploom. Everybody is so hypnotized by the aggressive Ploom marketing strategy. I just don't get it. Kudos to them for pushing it, but the product is over-priced for its utility. I have a DaVinci and an Herbalizer that will match your S&B/Pax duo anytime. And of course that's not a real challenge unless you live in Calgary, lol, then it's on. Pax isn't much better that the Atmos Raw or jr Pen for only $125. I guess it just looks that cool. Not trying to be negative, just sayin....

Volute of Vapor
I get one some days ago (a fake, sorry but in EU I thought it was a PIA for the warranty so I take one without warranty) and it's a better product than the atmos raw I already try there is no combustion taste and the design is really nice, ok it's not the better taste at all but it's vaporization and I'm happy to get it in my arsenal (except for the short battery longlife...)

Edit: I thought that just the OG Pax has a serial number written in the Pax under the mp, I ask that cause mine has a SN....

@PPN - Sadly now someof the counterfeits have serial numbers now too.

While I have a ton of vapes to use and even a slew of portables I do use the Pax for on the go use more than any of the others now. I know it's not for everyone but for me personally - it is my fav. portable as it is just so easy for on the go use without any fuss. I rarely touch my other portables now.

It's a personal preference kind of thing and everyone is entitled to their preference...and opinion ;) I didn't buy because of marketing but bought as I do many new vapes that come out - just to check it out. I ended up buying 2 more though after getting my first so I can really go, go, go on the go :D

I got bit by the vaping bug in January after purchasing a VaporGenie (thanks to the VG fc thread,) and have now decided to upgrade. After reading all 438 pages of this thread, and finding one at my LHS I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Pax. If it proves authentic I'm snagging it for $229! I'm so excited to ditch combustion.

One question, I didn't see much about anyone using this with tobacco, and I was hoping I can use it to cut out cigs as well. Anyone used ploom's, or any other pipe tobaccos with success?

My experience with tobacco and the Pax:

I am very new to vaporizers and decided to give one a try to "quit" smoking. I am/was a heavy smoker (roll your own, 30-50 per day for 20+ years). After my 2nd day with the Pax, I decided to try the "fuck combustion" mindset and haven't looked back. I am still amazed it was this easy to give up on the burning cigarettes and only use a vape.

It has been 31 days with just the Pax and a Vapir NO2 as my backup (2 is 1, 1 is none). I went from 1.25 ounces of tobacco per day, to about 0.20 ounces per day, saving me about $10 every day (the savings in tobacco costs have already offset the cost of both vaporizers). If I vape more than that, I get nauseated from too much nicotine, i.e. the Pax is highly effective.

I use Peter Stokkebye Amsterdam Shag rolling tobacco. It works best slightly dried out. 1 or 2 sessions and I am good to go for a few hours. I can even vape at the office, as my coworkers have been highly supportive in getting me off combustion and don't mind the "fresh tobacco smell" they sometime notice in my office.

I'm heading out the door, but if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them the best that I can.

After 1 month I'd highly recommend you at least try this route. I feel revitalized, for lack of a better description. Coffee tastes better, I have more energy, I'm sleeping better, I don't smell, etc..

Hey all, how do you guys use your Pax? I have had mine for a while now and want to make sure I'm achieveing maxium efficency. First, how much do you pack in your ovens? (I think i pack mine too full because weed is always stuck on the magnetic cover) Next, what is your technique while drawing a what temps do you use? Lastly, how much draws would you say you het before your oven is done? Thanks for any insight, I thought I'd ask some more experienxed users. Appreciate any help, stay vaped my friends

The Pax isn't better than the Atmos Raw......really.....come on man lol

I had my Pax in my pocket at my god daughters birthday party and it must've rubbed wrong and the mouthpiece came out and it turned on.

I was outside in the middle of the summer and told by numerous people that I reeked lol. The thing stinks. Its the only thing I really dislike about the pax. I'd rather have a bigger device that smelled less. I could cover up something the size of say a solo, but theres no hiding the smell the pax can put off at times
You can either 1. Keep it in aplastic bag and only have the mouth piece sticking out or 2. Buy mentos gum (the kind that comes in the tube) and snap the cover off that and put it on the bottom of your Pax to further contain the oven smell. Or....don't turn it on in your pocket with a ton of ppl around....jk

I find all the S&B and Pax hate hilarious...both produce well-designed products -- at a premium. I will admit the plenty seems overpriced for what it is, but it works so well I don't regret the price.

I consider myself an informed person who rarely falls for the "hype". However, with S&B and Ploom, I am satisfied with both product and service. I don't care that they are both very popular vapes and on the highend. They are popular not just because of marketing. I've let people use them who know nothing of vapes, let alone the industry. They were regular combusters who just wanted something that worked. These two impressed when others did not. They do what they claim. Simple and effective -- with great service and warranty to boot. And yes the Pax also looks amazing. The Plenty -- not so much.

The Pax is one of the best portables out right now. It performs well in terms of vapor production, stealth, ease of use, sleek design, large load, acceptable battery life, small size and low weight. Taste and efficiency are not its best characteristics, even though there are ways around to improve the latter (using a screen in the oven). To argue that is silly. Having all these features tends to come at a premium. Whether the Pax suits your needs and falls into your budget are the only two real questions. MOST owners feel they are worth the price of admission.

To bring up the Atmos Raw is ridiculous...just saying, lol

In my opinion, bringing up the cons as well as the pros about ANY vape is not silly at all. For some, taste and efficiency is at the top of their priority list. For others, the attributes that you mentioned above is at the top theirs. No right or wrong here. Just different priorities, so for the some, the PAX would be the best vape for them. For others, it could be the worst.

And this is why it irks me so much when a generalized recommendation is made when someone inquires about the purchase of any vaporizer without first asking the person who is looking to purchase a vape, what their priorities are.

People usually say their priorities when they are looking for a recommendation (if they even know them). I find it weird how different people's standards are for the term "portable". Some people think portable in terns of ability to move it easily and other people think portable means it needs to be able to fit in your pocket. In a sense some of the less "portable" vapes are almost like the plug ins of portables(if that makes any sense).

That hasn't been my experience. Many, especially over at GC will ask, "What's the best portable vaporizer?" and nothing more. And then what follows are one vape recommendations, which to my mind, is just silly.

Right. But it's not hard to recommend a small groupof vapes that each fit basic needs. Like the Pax fits portability and stealth ect....I think a lot of times the people haven't decided their priorities before they post.
