Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a few weeks now. I wasn't into vaping until just a few weeks ago. I had tried one a few years back, you know the wood box with the whip, and really wasn't charmed by the "apparatus" so I never got one. I've been a brass oney or glass bowl kind of guy for 30+ years, so the glass whip thing was too far a stretch for me. Fast forward to a few weeks back when I went to Florida for a short vacation. My nephew that lives down there set me up with a few nuggs and his Pax. While I loved the vaping experience, I really did not care for the pax. Too hard to hit and stinky as hell. It loses its stealthiness due to the fact that it wreaks just sitting in your pocket. My wife loved the pax bc it stinks less than combustion and said I could have one for my birthday. :brow: So I did my due diligence and ended up finding FC. What a great resource for a newbie like me.

Long story short, I went to the LHS yesterday to do a side by side comparison of a bunch of vapes and really checked out what I'd been reading about. I am so glad I did. I picked up a red FF at a good price and after using it I know that I made the best choice. It feels like a luxury item, which to me it is. It doesn't stink when pocketed, delivers magnificent hits and it keeps the house from wreaking of doob. What a joy. I'm still experimenting with techniques and I have learned so much here already, so thanks to all you for making this place great. At first I thought I had a cold unit, but after deliberately trying to get it to combust I found it does, so I think the temp is perfect. I had to hotbox the crap out of the thing before I got the nasty burnt popcorn taste but get it I did. It does take a little learning to get the best out of it and I'm sure it'll only improve from here. The FF is a great choice for my personal needs and I couldn't be happier. Put me down as a +1 for recommending the FF as a great first vape. :leaf:

I went with silver

I thought that the silver one reminded me of a BMW

and the red one reminded me of a red Mercury Caliente.

The dark grey actually matches my BMW coupe! Space grey metallic, it's cool though, the two tone silver/grey is gonna look sick

So what do you guys do to search the FC forum?
Do you tell Google to only search here with the site: term?

Arriba Caliente, si!

Are these guys soliciting "direct sales"?

This is one thing that worries me long term ... What kind of material would work well, and what kind of adhesive?

Not sure if it's been posted, but this is what comes in the cleaning kits that Firefly offers (they sent me one to make up for a warranty shipping mistake, as usual their customer service went above & beyond):

20 cleaning wipes
6 screens
5 plastic picks
1 brush

Just wanted to let people know that the cleaning kit is bigger than the one that comes with the Firefly in the original box.

I'd love it if they put some more screens in there and no picks… They melt when they touch the hot screen anyway. I use a wooden toothpick..

I used to have a red 65 Comet that looked like that, above. My first car. The FF looks amazing. Still waiting in the wings. Battery life isn't that long, hopefully they can stretch that a bit. I like the red FF. Not too stealth though, who cares it's beautiful.

Yeah, I do one session on a charge, don't like surprises. I don't know how they can improve that with this design. Heating herb indirectly with hot air has to be less efficient that just baking it. It does damned well under the circumstances. And it tastes so cool & so good!

I was just dabbing with my Solo and a SS pad. Man, that vapor comes off the tube like a Birmingham chimney! My tongue is reelin'. The "all glass" boys don't get it. The Stainless Steel cooling path in the FireFly lid is brilliant. BTW, the Stainless Steel pad material seems really nice.

Is Cavendish a nice aromatic choice? Better be something light. Sisha mixtures maybe? Those wet stones with the different flavours?.

In Tobacco you can use something like a Captain Black. No self-respecting pipe smoker would pick it. But it's sweetened and flavored, tastes pretty yummy. I forget the varieties, I think Blue Label is their Cavendishy blend. The shisha stuff I'be never tried, but it might be even better because they make it with glycerin, so it makes huge clouds and tastes like a candy shop.

Oh yeah, one more idea. Ploom makes the Pax. They sell a vaporizer for like $40 that uses these little tobacco carts. They have aromatic and so on. One of their little aluminum pots would probably fit in the FireFly. The beauty is it wouldn't leave much tobacco taste in the FireFly.

Finally got some double apple shisha no nicotine blend and it works nice in the FF. It gets some time to heat up but when it does it pulls big big clouds!!! Nice taste! :D

I'm counting on the 5 year warranty to see me through. In 5 years this vape will be nothing but a nostalgic memory to pull out and only occasionally use, like the original iPod. I expect that things will be even more amazing, so no sense in worry about something that I prolly won't care about. Vape on!

I noticed the melting too. IMO they should use teflon or some other high temp material to make the picks. The plastic they use now is just not up to the task.

First Date Report

My Silver lady arrived yesterday and was fully charged after just 15 minutes. With 97 pages of expectations and anticipation, I tried her out last night. Sorry to say I'm disappointed and worried that I may have received one of the "cool" units. ...

UPDATE -- Going on 1 month since our first "date":

Thanks to all the good technique tips from FF owners on this forum, I've begun to learn the ropes with my lovely lady. Here's what's working best for me:
• full oven, lightly packed coarse ground herb (2-3 turns in my SpaceCase grinder)
• heat button pressed for 6-7 seconds, draw for ten seconds
• consider the first draw as "throw away" -- I think someone else has already mentioned this
• next two pulls (within 60 seconds of the first) with 5 second pre-heat, 10 second draw, heat off, continue pull for 3 more seconds
= good amount of vapor and thinnish clouds

That's usual enough to get me going for a couple or three hours. (I'm not a heavy user).
I then stir the load a bit, getting things set up for a 2nd session later on.

I like to refresh the oven contents after a 2nd session and re-charge the battery every 2nd or 3rd session.

Still experimenting with various strains and methods of packing, and no longer worried about having a "cool" unit.

Lovin my FF; life is good.

T.

@twigs great review. Ive had mine for a little while now. Rocky start with my first unit but that ones long gone. Was selling the one im currently using, but things came up and i ended up just buying a new one for the person cause i couldnt let mine go!

I use a space case too and thats my preferred method. Ive tried by hand and throwing whole pieces in but i definitely prefer the grind. I stick with 1-2 turns and sump it out before it all falls through to the screen section. Full pack and light draws...

I also have stopped counting, i think that was one of the reasons ive was charring...now first hot i hold till the glow reaches full brilliance, Then begin to inhale. Subsequent hits i just wait till it begins to glow. Has been working like a champ

Guuuuys! Don't throw away that first toke, especially in the morning! Waste not, want not. Starving stoners in India. True, it's invisible, it's subtle, but it tastes delicious, and it's loaded with peppy vitamins. Try it sometime, just take that first one (drawn very slowly) down and hold it. Wait a sec before returning to milking the Fly, and take stock. Have a sip of the breakfast coffee. Then tell me why you would ever want to throw THAT away ;-)

@twigs isn't your second session on the same stuff pretty different? All the low temp compounds say up to 380 degrees F will be in your first session, and the ones that boil at high temp will be in the second session. An alternative (if you don't have a serious reason to do it the 2 session way) is the vape smaller loads, so you can pick what you want, or take everything, in each session ...

Off Topic. Tried out my "universal" 18 and 14 mm Ti nail for real with a $14.99 propane tank and torch and some good dab. And took some measurements with an IR temp gun (which actually isn't as simple as point and shot). Suffice it to say, now I understand why the Titanium nail is the gold standard.
