Can't find/afford a diffuser...no problem! Diffuser Beads!

Hello all,
I wanted to respond to something in the VHW thread, but did not want to pollute it with dialogue that is unrelated to the thread so...
SA - Yeah, I'm with NoSmoke.. finding a diffuser can be hard. Just including it in those 'combination' you were talking about. Progress, I've been using my VaporWarez basically daily now that I got my bong in... it's so enjoyable being able to take nice cooled hits. Before, without having access to a bong, the hits seemed harsh and heavy, so I rarely used it. It's just a simple downstem with an icecatcher but boy does it do the trick.
Any cooling/filtration should help reduce throat irritation, but if you are interested in a cheap/available alternative for an inline there are options.

1) Use tubing instead of a down-stem and cut slits/poke holes in it (in this case holes can be better because they can be made so many/small in tubing--compared to glass)

2) Find glass beads/stones/shapes (they are often in craft stores, fish supply shops, etc.) Carefully fill the water chamber with them (above OR below the water level for more/less diffusion, respectively). To make sure they have no coatings burn the glass beads/stones/shapes AND submerge them in iso (or something) after they cool.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MODIFY OR ADD RELATED IDEAS TO THIS THREAD IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DOING SO, BUT PLEASE KEEP CONVERSATIONS TO THE 'FUCKER CHAT' ROOM.

SA - Ah man I love your posts
Thank you for the kind words (people's appreciations usually show through their responses and contributions even before they are stated, but I appreciate the sentiments nonetheless :D ) Any success with your non-GonG bubbler compatibility issues? If so, please post in 'Use any Water-pipe!' thread ;)

Toke it easy

Why is there no responses to this post? How does a diffuser help you in vaporizing?

Via Tokecity/Google:

it is designed to break the smoke into tiny bubbles, eliminating the " chug" and producing a fizzing/ froth effect. these smaller bubbles aid in consistent filtration and cooling.

The very First Diffuser was developed in Southern California and was called the " Machine gun downstem" and the end was closed. a prototype was Given to Martin at RooR.de, he loved it, and added it to RooR's lineup.
Diffused downstems:

In this thread, Progress is explaining how to emulate the effect on a budget. Hi Prog.

Thanks. I wanna try, where can I get a good deal on a downstem like that for a 18mm joint? Actually also looking for a 18mm to 14mm converter also, would love to pick up both... God I love vape accessories.

Sucks this Prog cat left. I have read some great posts by him, didn't know. RIP I guess. . . . what happened?

Hello all!

I was so flattered by the interest people have taken in this thread, and wanted to share another glass beads discovery. When using stemless pieces (like the designs by Toro), one does not have to worry about large beads breaking a down-stem. Therefore it is possible to use large , glass beads/shapes all of the way to the bottom of the tube (I like the star shaped ones).

I feel that the tiny bead set-up rivals any tree system or inline for diffusion. I also feel that the large glass stars scattered with glass marbles in a stemless tube can compete with any of the swiss perc designs (not to mention how much easier/cheaper they are to make and the fact that the diffuser is adjustable based on the pattern in which you stack the beads).

Also, (IAmKrazy2 - "How does a diffuser help you in vaporizing?") this has been discussed by me somewhere on FC (at length). Please search around if interested (I know it can be tough to find shit here, so if anyone comes across it please feel free to link this fucker).

edit: Found them! These two threads (http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=451 http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?pid=17211#p17211) cover a bit about how a diffuser helps when vaporizing (if you read all that is there and have any questions/comments, please feel free to post them in the respective thread) :D

PS: I have not left. The decrease in my posting comes from my brains having less to share than they did in the beginning (when no ideas had yet been posted), as well as some frustration with the management approach of the mods/the slow evolution of site regulations/pollution of threads/etc. However, when it comes down to it, this place is still the house that Carpenter/Creator V built; I like hanging out in it/reading in the library; and Vtac can run the place any way he wants (utilizing the interest of members to keep "club FC" #1 OR ruling like a king who feels that his loyal subjects can leave his kingdom if we don't like how it is run--as well as anywhere in between those two extremes ;) ). I will simply join in when I feel compelled to do so (an DO definitely hope that the site becomes more and more welcoming AND organized, rather than less and less). :peace:

dude, this is such a great idea! :) never thought of this before, but why the hell woulnd't it split up the bubbles creating more surface area! great post.

im glad i searched for this first though hand didn't just start a new thread.

Of course FC has a thread on it already!

Wow, those diffuser rings sure are different. I'm accustomed to seeing glass beads, but I'm sure those work great all well.

What I did when my diffuser downstem broke was cover the end with a hot glue gun and poke holes in it with thumbtacks when the glue is hot. It works :D

As anyone tried these and can commit? http://diffuserbeads.com

I wondering if the more diffusion will give me less throat burn out of my Mobius 65B.
I'm hoping this will work, but maybe there are other options? Any comments help

Galactus to be honest I have no idea about the Beads but wanted to quickly throw the idea of using warm/hot water out on the table.

I have found ice/cold does nothing to help smooth out harsh vapor and very warm/hot water makes a big difference. We're all a little different, but that's what works for me.

Just passing time
Back in the smoking days, I used to use airsoft pellets in pieces to give extra diffusion. It worked so well. I would recommend similar setups.

I had a friend who used something similar in his illy tube for combustion, but I'm not sure what brand he used. They worked fine for that but I don't think they would do a lot in a stereo matrix, that's already got a lot of diffusion. I would also be concerned about splash back, I know my 60b stacks right to the neck. If you had almost any other piece though I would say go for it.

They look like salmon eggs/caviar lol

But the theory is sound, like the holes in the swiss perc bong, these little balls are just obstacles for smoke bubbles to diffuse on

I had a friend with the same setup- illy beaker + 2 jars of the beads. It was noticeably smoother for combustion (never tried with vapor) but I was not a fan of them at all. Hard to explain, but it just felt gross/trashy smoking through a bunch of plastic beads. The beads also make for a much noisier smoking experience (from smashing into each other and the walls of the bong).

If you have a mobius 65b those beads are absolutely unnecesary IMO.

you're already getting tons of diffusion with your mobius if it is a matrix perc. I second the hot/warm water idea, as I really like it but don't do it due to the extra steps involved.

This may just be a gimmick or a 'visual' thing, but can these effectively replace a standard diffuser on a water-filtration piece?
2K Diffuser Beads look amazing to say the least, but does anyone have experience using them in a standard bong with their vape attached? If they do the job, this may be an investment!
Also, is there not the risk of these getting sucked up into your throat?

And if you are wondering, the price is like $6 for a little bag like this:

and closer to $40 for a 'Jumbo' jar which I think would completely fill an entire large sized bong.
