per my previo y s question ... anybody know how best to store say 8 separate gram zip lockettes of different strains? Can I keep them as is standing open in a common humidity controlled jar? or do I have to seal and humidity control each little baggie separately?

any fantastic new storage technologies?

I've kept a zip- lock bag with buds inside another sealed container with a humidipak outside the zip but inside the container. It worked very well. I would always do the zip up completely. They are not completely airtight and if the air in the surrounding small area is the right humidity that does the job. Seedsman gives similar advice for storing seeds - place seeds in foil zip-lock and place inside jar with appropriate number of silica balls in the jar but not in the zip.

The humidipaks I used were 58% (marketed for long term storage of clarinet and saxophone reeds) and were great for keeping herbs at a moisture content for hand crumbling and grinding without getting powdery. 62% might be better but possibly not for vaping.

@Adobewan, 75% would be way too high and would encourage mould. It did for my reeds. The cylinders in vitamins etc. contain silica. This is only good for drying. Not two way humidity control.

You can freshen the meds for your FireFly Vaporizer without using any vegetable matter using the blimpie if for some reason your meds are too dry for your pleasure.
Blimpie Mini Zeppelin Humidifier
They are inexpensive and are permanent. I bought a few years ago, and they are still around (unused now since I no longer smoke.. and do not need humidification for my vaporization activities.

Well yeah. But how often have you seen moldy citrus?

Lettuce will rot in an anaerobic environment, but not with dry herbs.

But citrus will get moldy,
just do an image search for your term, "moldy citrus".

mofSNPy.jpg

Fungus is way worse than rot.

I have used both and prefer lettuce.
I just use the firm white part, this way there's never any rot or mold.

Chlorophyll = fresh taste!

The truth is out! There's no reason to eat that crap, it's not nutritious at all, the man said it, it's just chlorophyll and water! like I need photosynthesis in my gut!

Now you're just being silly.
Photosynthesis cannot happen in your gut because it requires light.

Thank you brother Tom, @natural farmer, @Vitolo (the sagely one), @Mynameismud , and all participating brethren.
I ordered 62s today and will toss the cylinders I've been collecting.

My mold story:
Had bought a quantity just before a three week trip. Read somewhere(not FC) that a carrot(not foil wrapped as V has suggested) tossed into the jar with the Meds would keep them healthy.
On return, I was met with a jar full of Meds that looked like spiders had been spinning webs all over them for the full three weeks.
The mold was fascinating and heart breaking at the same time.

To get back on the Firefly thread, finally got one, hope to receive within the next week or so!

Meanwhile, in the "aren't you glad you vape a Firefly" dept, I've been trying to figure out why you have to vape the Solo upside down and why the glass stem keeps falling out or burning my fingers if I try to keep it in. Ah, something about an o-ring. pssst you hav to get one and slip it under the screw-on cover.

@grokit no idea where the citrus tradition came from, but I think it's entirely a matter of humidity, be it fruit or legume. Of course the little humidifiers work, but take it from someone who plays the harpsichord, a wooden instrument with a wooden frame supporting a lot of strings, and that sucker, like all good harpsichords, will go out of tune when someone as much as farts: I've been with humidifier grief a long many years, and I can say that all the one way humidity adders are beasts you'd better ride attentively, or you will in fact be entirely too wet, with all the attendant issues.

I always thought, as per the early literature anyway, that there was some loss of cannabinoids and volatile terpenes etc when the humidity drops too much. Maybe not, or maybe the current quality is so good it's still good with a 20% loss?

In any case, the FireFly demands a fluffy not-dessicated herb, and that's what I'd like to feed it. If the Boveda does what it apparently does, I'm with the program.

I must admit my favorite humidifier, one that is applied in cold dry winters, suitable for placing under or near the harpsichord in a small or medium room: a bucket of water with the entire Sunday Times rolled up and protruding as a wick.

Oh, grief, I can just see that moldy weed. Oh, what a terrible terrible WASTE! Evil Mold!

Well Toronto Vaporizer has not posted my comment but has posted someone elses from the same day as mine (they posted that a few days ago). I put in @Shiggity on fcombustion forum and posted the comment again carefully taking out any words that might seem accusatory or hostile. I doubt they will post it but we all probably figured that anyway.

It is a shame when a review invites comment but is afraid to post something that goes contrary to their view. At the very least they could retract the statements about there being no temperature sensor, and about the body being made out of plastic. They could also admit that the MFLB is conduction based and not the same vaping system as the firefly. So much for neutral journalism.

I use 62% for everything. Havent had an issue using the herbs with any vaporizer yet.

My guess is that they requested to sell it and were denied by FF. Now they trash it.

They claim to only the sell the best vaporizers in each class but have you seen what they call 'best in class'? Joke.

Maybe you should forward their review to FF and let them deal with Toronto Vaporizer. Just a thought. I took it as a decent review at first...then, after finally being able to use my FF, realized it was a garbage review.

So I gotta send my back, doesn't heat up any more. Light blinks green when holding button down but not heat, no orange glow :(. Already spoke to FF and will be sending back. How clean does it need to be to send back? I cleaned it as good as I normally do. Also I guess I have to pay for my own shipping to huh??

Hello everybody! I have a question for all of you firefly users there and I apologize if this has been asked before but how's the extraction of the herbs? I know some of it does depend on the strain and quality of the herb your using but I remember someone saying its comparable to the solo on 3 which seems quite low to me.I would just like to know if the firefly is capable of extracting all the goodies out of the herb as I like to have all the effects of the herb!:ko:

If you go back and follow the great technique advice from several of the knowledgeable folks here, you can get your herb nice and dark. Took me a bit, but I got it...thanks to members in this thread.

@tufftitty
Since you bought from FF, they will send you a return label...possibly even ship out your replacement before you send your original one in. Phenominal customer service...

ISO wipe-down should do it, no?

The Firefly gives me a very dark and well extracted ABV. and the effects are all there. I am now getting the same great results the Lotus is giving me and that says a lot in my book! I have even tried some ABV from the FF in the Lotus and nothing bad bad taste comes if I push it further (the Lotus is capable of VERY high temps mind you...). The effects are as strong as with my Lotus. And it can only get better with time, I am sure of it. With the Lotus I am still getting better every single day...

After over 100 fills I can get very dark even abv. Nothing left in there I want to inhale. I have been keeping all of mine for eating. My abv is much darker than when I started. I am just better at knowing how to use the space coffin than when I started!

Ok, i've read a lot of this thread for the last few months. Can some of the regulars tell me why i should get one? I'm basically looking to replace my Pax as my outdoor walking around the city vape. My pax still works, it's sorta discreet and i'm not an idiot who flaunts it;). It's still illegal here in NYC:(. What are the pros and cons? How much of a learning curve will i have ? i hate combusting and combusting is not good for my lungs. My lungs do not like smoke.

Because it has the greatest, most natural flavor of any portable I have tried. (Disclosure...I've never used a Pax.)

It may not be stealthy enough for you. But if you're like me, once you try it, all those other conduction vapes will taste like crap next to FF's pure convection goodness. Of course, you may not be like me, so, you know, YMMV.

@Trifectic and others. Truth be told, though we grin and manage, the FireFly is a tad underpowered. But it has its rewards.

What this translates to is that it requires technique for one. If you let it warm up, and not get impatient, you can squeeze pretty much all the juices you want out of da herb. Need a backup battery if you do sequential medicating.

Another issue is that some are hotter than others, and it seems we've come to confirm that by opening the device and gently optimizing the position of the coil in its ceramic grooves (and I'm talking 64's, fractions of a millimeter displacement) you can improve the heat transfer and simplify the required technique. Some have had theirs swapped by the company.

Third, when I said the Firefly is like the Solo on 3, I was talking about the new Solos, which run hotter than the originals. On 3-4 IMHO I get all of the cool stuff. At 6 on a Solo I'm getting sleepier, at 7 it's nearing combustion. I can do all that on a FireFly by vaping longer with shaking/stirring.

But I'm not all that interested, so I'm saying the FireFly naturally will most please the low-mid temp vapers like me, while the high temp "leave no terpene or flavonoid behind" crew, fans of the debilitating Borneol fraction, will prefer a Solo, a Lotus or a pipe.

If you try the FireFly you will be drawn to that bright-headed vapor, and the flavor will amaze you. Best flavor in town. Even the most effete taste snobs concede that the FireFly is on a par with the Volcano, the alleged German flavor champ. It's not clear exactly why, but the stainless steel cooling channels undoubtedly have something to do with it. Solo fans think "all glass" rules, but their oven is Stainless Steel. The FireFly has a glass oven and a SS path. Same difference. But FF delivers cool delicious vapor.

So, you choose. Are you more Eloi, or are you more Morlock? As a morlock, one that chews the stems and sprinkles the ABV on breakfast before settling down to a Ti nail session with a propane torch and a gram o' Trainwreck, you may find the FireFly a bit ... delicate.

p.s. Even @natural farmer whose Morlock tendencies are strongly hinted at, has factory-swapped his FireFly for a hotter one and is now in vape heaven.

p.p.s. Brass Wool (fine) vindicated! The (US) company confirms it's lead-free. Good enough for me. Makes nice disposable oil/wax pads for FireFly and Solo and ...

Floating on.
I'm basically looking to replace my Pax.

The only two vapes I've owned since I started vaping a couple months ago have been the Pax and FireFly. (I started out with Pax.) After getting the hang of the FF pretty well these past couple weeks, I can say this, one will not entirely replace the other. I find them to be two entirely different vaporizers in regards to use, technique, flavor, and "buzz" factor. I adore them both for their own reasons, and find that one excels in areas where the other does not. They are both excellent, high-quality portable vapes and worth every penny.

So, if you enjoy the Pax, then you must get the FireFly. It will add a wonderful diversity to your vaping experience. You'll find yourself switching between them often, but neither will be truly replaced, which makes it a great value.

... and the same goes for the Solo. A different vape, complements the other(s). Oh, dear. Hope I don't get bored of the Substance Under Test, as all the accessories are so much FUN!

... and the FireFly with a little pad of SS or Brass wool makes a good oil/wax rig. Very TASTY. I find the Solo on 7 ruins the concentrate's flavor. Maybe 6? Maybe 5? And you end up futzin' with it. On the FireFly you just vape, the flavors open up gradually like a book. Yummy. When it starts getting that heavy taste, you stop. Simple.

First of all it wasn't me that swapped my unit... I am just playing with the heater positioning from time to time. I haven't seen much change though. Imo you just need to keep it relatively evenly spaced from the walls of it's ceramic nest. So that air comes in and is heats uniformly... Draw on the other hand plays a major role! To get high heat hits, like with my Lotus, I just draw very slow for a few secs after it glows bright and slightly up the draw but not up to the point I see specs flying around the bowl. If I open the lid and see tunnelling or the herbs moved around then it was too fast of a draw. When I fill the bowl up to the brim I seem to be able to draw a little harder cause the load doesn't move much. Even then though, after a couple of hits when the load has shrank a bit, I need to lower my draw force so I can keep the heat up. I don't believe I have a cold unit as I can drive the ABV at very dark levels with no hint of combustion whatsoever and the taste doesn't go bad in the last couple of draws like with the Lotus if I push the load too far. I like the 400F upper limit. And it now gets me quite sleepy as well. I can finish a load in 4-5 draws nowadays. That's hot enough!

I go where the thrills are
Well, the replacement for my very original FF arrived Tuesday. (As I anxiously paced waiting for FedEx to show up so we could leave for the Dream Theater show in Boston...showed up fifteen minutes before we left!) I realized this is my FOURTH Firefly: my original grey, which was faulty and I only had for two days...my Silver replacement which worked great for nearly four months, the new Red one I bought a few weeks ago, and now the Silver replacement.

Ironically, like my original Silver, it seems to run a *touch* hotter than the Red...requires shorter button pushes. Other than that all seems well with it. It's nice to have two FF's I can jog between, and especially nice to have three batteries and two chargers...no more schlepping my one charger from bedroom to living room every day. With any luck, both FF's will be problem free for the forseeable future.
