Welcome to FC @CloseEnough - this place is a fountain of knowledge and will make your vape experience that much better, I guarantee, although hold on to your wallet if you lurk here too much (you'll go broke "saving" money on vape toys).

My unit is out for delivery according to UPS  :evil::evil:

Quick question that's probably been asked several times and hopefully won't annoy.

When Herbie arrives, I plan to crank the temp to max and let the fan assist run until autoshutoff. This is probably unnecessary but heck, I'll prob do it anyways.

Should I do anything else prior to first use? Clean the bowl and whip maybe or not necessary?

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I'm sure I'll be 'saving' quite a bit here in the future. I see some people here are also running the vape through water, which I hadn't known about, let alone even considered doing with vape. It's an intriguing idea that I'll be looking into more for sure.

I was also wondering if there anything that should be done prior to use. I'm sure it'll be just fine, and I've been scourging through here for tips on how to make the process better. I'm sure I'll figure it out in time though :)

Well looks like UPS has screwed me AGAIN. I used their service to bypass signature requirement for delivery, yet tracking shows "First Attempt Made" which I interpret as they did not deliver the package as instructed. What is the point of these services if they do not work. I am on chat with them now to see if any way to get this today. I knew I should have called in sick today....:evil::evil:

EDIT - they are going to see if I can pick it up at UPS facility. WARNING - DO NOT USE THE FEATURE TO DISABLE THE DELIVERY SIGNATURE REQUIREMENT!!! IT DOES NOT WORK. The UPS rep basically told me that it doesn't work.

Just wanted to provide more recent experience with Herbie, now 7 weeks into ownership.

(I know much of what I say below has already been said by others, but I want future readers of the thread to know those weren't one offs)

Frequency of use: Herbie has seen daily use in my home since Feb 3rd when it arrived. I have used my PAX just a handful of times when I didn't feel like moving herbie into the living room for movie night.

Ease of use: My aunt, who until I got Herbie only used edibles, loaded a bowl and filled a bag with only minor direction from me. (still need to teach her to grind her own... baby steps).

Speed: I can put something in the microwave for 5 minutes, walk to the other room turn herbie on and blow a bag at 445 and return to the kitchen just as the microsave goes off. Thats 5 minutes including walking, heating up, and filling bag and walking back.

Versatility: I can use a whip, bag, or water. With the different experience at different temperatures I can always find what I need.

Ease of cleaning: With daily use of about .5-2.0g the only regular cleaning I've never needed to do was brush the bowl out. I used ISO and a folded pipe cleaner for the first time after about 6 weeks to get the bowl back to 'new'. I use the swap screen trick first posted by @Darb back on page 88.

Precision: I have continued to experiment with different temperatures, and techniques. I'm now able to consistently produce bags for my aunt that only give her minor coughing. Its all about knowing how to extract what you want and leave the rest behind. I'm sure other vapes can do this, but I doubt with the ease and repeatability of Herbie.

Negatives: and I had to think hard on this part... I wish the bag valves sealed better to the bowl during a fill. Yep, thats all I could come up with. I'm sure there are others.

Future improvements: Would love a true GonG. Would love a button combo to turn on at low temp, not the last used temp.

For me Herbie is a medical device first and foremost. For my chronic headaches and torn shoulder I've learned as long as I keep a base level of THC&CBD in my system the delivery of it matters little. For my aunt's needs edibles were a good start, but it was Herbie that made all the difference. In the past 7 weeks we've been able to avoid two trips to Urgent Care, and she knocked down two migraines in half the time it would have normally taken.

As we all know there are lots of ways to ingest cannabinoids, but Herbie gives you a level of control that I can't imagine not having now that I've experienced it.

p.s. I hope this wasn't too long winded, but Herbie really has made an amazing difference in quality of life for my aunt. Of course, I've been enjoying as well.

Have returned from trip to UPS security office :evil::evil: and I have had Herbie for exactly 45 minutes...here are my first impressions while they are fresh:

Opened box, nice presentation, attractive packaging, not cumbersome or hard to get at things, product and accessories nest nicely in box like how things nest nicely in the "mezz". It's clear what people mean when they say everything is very well thought out and integrated. I don't see myself using the grinder, maybe the stash box, but who knows, for now, peppermint and extra screen are going in the stash box.

Set up to use the whip and loaded a bowl about 1/3, not a half like instructions say is optimal, set temp to 410 (I want to try low temps in the daytime, but I want to see what "intensity" is all about first), vapor a bit light, but I am surprised by what comes out after such a cool draw, it feels like you aren't inhaling anything and then you exhale a nice little cloud, this is very different from other vapes I've experienced, typically I feel it going in and out with my sub UFO, infinity and Pinnacle Pro, could it be just cooler going through the whip distance, I usually use a WT except with the PNP? Puffed at this temp until I wasn't getting much more and then cranked to max but only got a little more.

Haven't used whips much, but I like it just fine, this one is so smoooth hitting, are all whips this smooth hitting?

I really like how when you draw harder the fan kicks in to help you out a little bit and then backs off like it is reading your mind. The fan assist is very very cool and also useful.

Took a little bit for the med to take effect, but when it did, was like OH HELLO!!! THERE YOU ARE!!! I want to see if this can happen consistently and for how long. But I am impressed so far, hype may be hype but there is something certainly different and enjoyable in its vape signature, and it is distinct from my other vapes, but need more data of course. :science: Next up is a kief sandwich.

I do not regret purchase or foresee doing so. Many things to try out now, like the bags and using water filtration. Fun projects....

Sure, I have some negative issues, nothing major, but here they are:

 Whip may be a cat hair magnet...a little ick, but not Herbie's fault. My first whip, so maybe they're all this way.

:mad: I'm a little clumsy I guess and fumbled with the bowl a bit, the top half came off when I was trying to pull the whole bowl off of Herbie (magnet is STRONG). The top cool grip slipped off once too. I did find the bowl a little hotter to touch than I anticipated, you do still need to be careful with this or you could burn yourself, people should know. Experience will make it easier, I'm sure.

:mad::mad: I would really like it if the lid click-closed or clasped all the way and the "Mezz" attached/detached more firmly. The "looseness" of it cheapens it a wee bit IMO for such a high end device.

Ok, soooo. did anyone try the peppermint? :brow:

Wipe outside of whip down once in a while, with a rag with Iso splashed on it (I use 91% generously), then immediately wipe it dry.
After you have done this a few times the hose takes on a more "mat" feel, and is not as dust/particle attracting as silicone normally is.
Yes.. I vaped peppermint. invigorating and refreshing.
No buzz, but life is not... I realize about a buzz for everyone.;)
Peppermint tasted fresh.

So Herbie's instructions and onscreen messages kept telling me to "Herbalize" meaning mix a blend of herbs, so I made a kief sandwich with my regular herbs on the bottom, some kief and the provided peppermint on top. It was quite refreshing, now I'm interested in mixing other things in, it said to try chamomile, so I'm guessing I can vaporize teas in this?

Tried lower temp 389f, the highest in the "balanced" range. Very light vapor, creeper effect and very heady/cerebral. Tried to finish it off at max, but very little extra vapor, I even stirred the bowl.

Tried a bag, it's fun to watch it fill up and think "that's what's happening in my lungs with the whip." Interesting, but I'll probably use that for the occasional guest more and the whip for personal.

The vape sig is definitely different from my infinity, which gives more body, below is an ABV comparison between the two, Herbalizer on the right, Infinity on the left. You can see that the Infinity ABV is darker, I believe it goes hotter than Herbie does and toasts it more with higher radiant bowl heat. I'm not sure if this means that the Infinity goes closer to combustion and maybe releasing some benzene as Josh has written in a blog post?

abv.jpg

So I may start rotating Herbie with the Infinity, they provide pretty different experiences, both good.

So nice having these choices.:evil::evil:

Edit: Fan assist is awesome. My favorite feature so far.

That is what most herbs are!
Tea.
Or Visa Versa.
Herbal tea are herbs. I have vaped them all... and they are cheap and easy to get.
Lavender, Chamomile, Licorice Root, Rasberry leaves, Thyme, Spearmint and tons more. (spearmint makes me want to pee!)
I use Nature's Wonderland brand... made exclusively by "Penn Herb Company"

On ABV.. I can get my ABV very very dark using the Herbalizer.. I just must be patient and keep vapong even though the visible vapor becomes barely visible. I have done entire sessions with ABV and get medicated, and at high temps at end of extended sessions, my ABV is very dark.

I would avoid vaporizing tea, on marketplace(CBC) they showed that nearly all tea brands have a bunch of pesticides in them, and some over the limit.

Juicy legal smoking herbs are sold in herb pouches, or seed packs to grow your own. I highly recommend these herbs for vaporization. Very clean crisp taste, and a light, genuine herbal flavor. Juicy Herbs have 8 different herbal varieties. Also, Skunk mixed these herbs in a variety of blends including chocolate, strawberry, and blueberry. Juicy herbs are grown for smoking. Just vape it!

Juicy Herbs... Never tried them in particular, but have heard of those herbs before and tried most. Keep in mind almost no herb will give you as pronounced of an effect that cannabis can. Sometimes the effects can be more subtle and can be hard to notice.

Feverfew: is good for headaches, particularly migraines. When taking orally helps reduce fevers, also good for some skin conditions. It has also been shown to have some cancer fighting properties. Long term use can cause withdraw symptoms if stopped suddenly. If you are pregnant don't use it.

"Mad Dog Weed" is actually Skullcap: Good for nerve pain, helps you relax some, good for sleep. I prefer this in tincture form... it is much stronger and seems to last longer. I also like to mix this with other tinctures like Mugwort. Again, don't use while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Marshmallow Root: Has mucilaginous properties, which means it produces a thick gooey substance. Is good for sore throats... makes for a more mild vapor/smoke then some of the others. The effects are less pronounced. Blending this with other herbs can help mellow the overall harshness of smoke/vapor. I prefer this one in liquid form... although the consistency is like mucus/snot. Appears to be safe to use during pregnancy.

Passionflower: Calming for some seizures, nerves/anxiety, anxiousness, and insomnia. The effects are relaxing. Also has mild analgesic properties. I like to combine this one with Skullcap and Mugwort to help me sleep. Again, this is not safe to use while pregnant or breast feeding.

Wild Lettuce: Also for sleep and anxiety like conditions and arthritis. Out of the ones listed here it probably has the strongest "effect" when smoked. Again, nothing in this list is going to make you "super stoned" feeling. It does not taste good when smoked or vaporized... it is kind of bitter. You will want to mix it with something else. Also I find that drinking a tea of it will give you a stronger effect, but it takes longer to take effect. You should not use if: you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have the eye condition narrow-angle glaucoma, have allergies to related herbs such as ragweed, have surgery scheduled in the next two weeks or have an enlarged prostate.

Spearmint: Like peppermint and other mints is it can make you feel like your lungs are getting cleared out. Can help settle the stomach. Not really going to do anything psychoactive or narcotic. Sometimes can be a bit harsh on the throat when smoked. Much prefer to vaporize this herb. Seems to be safe to use during pregnancy.

Damiana: Used as an aphrodisiac to help increase your sex drive. It helps blood flow to various regions of the body. It can be calming when smoked. It can be used as a mood stabilizer as well. Mild, not very pounced sedative effects when smoked. I have heard of some people using it as a smoke to help curb other smoking habits. Do not use when pregnant.

Potentilla Erecta: This herb is very astringent. Which means it will constrict body tissues. Will make you have to urinate and also good for people with diarrhea and other discharges. It can also help sore throats, but I don't know about vaporizing/smoking it for that propose. Can be used for PMS relief. Not really sure why this one is a smoking blend. Use cautiously if you are pregnant or nursing... consult your doctor on this one.

I am slightly interested in getting some of their seeds to grow. Although, allot of times commercial herb seeds are not as medically beneficial as wild-crafted herbs. It would be interesting to see how their seed grown herbs would compare to the same plant harvested from the wild.

I know with a lot of vapes you have to wait like 20-30 seconds after each hit for the herb to heat up again do you have to do that with herbal aire? Also can you hit it quickly or is it like a lot of vapes where you have to do slow draws?

I think you forgot to change "herbal aire" (it's not 2 words either) to Herbalizer, before posting, since you asked the same question in the herbalAire and Extreme threads. I hope you realize that the Herbalizer is a much more expensive model than the other two.

It's always a good idea to give the vape time to get back to the temp you've set, and a quick/hard hit will drop the temp much more than a slow one, even to the point of affecting the initial hit, let alone the next one. Temp retention/recovery does vary from one model to another, but IMO that feature shouldn't be high on your list when choosing a vape to buy.

I've owned a Versa Infinity for a little over a month and the Herbalizer for 3 days. Both vaporizers heat up very quickly (Infinity 2-4 min, Herbalizer approx. 20 seconds or less). The Herbalizer is different in that's it's thermostat control and fan can get the unit up or down in temp in a few seconds, it also has a gauge on the LCD screen that tells you when the temp is set. The Infinity can heat up quick but can't cool down as fast. Herbie is near-instant change up or down, Infinity is turn on, go do something for few minutes (like go to the bathroom or get a drink) and it's ready, once on it goes up in temp in a couple minutes, down in temp in maybe 10 min or so (no temp readout, only voltage so it's a guess), but it also has a "boost" function that bumps up heat quickly while you block the main air intake (this comes in very handy IME).

If you're not familiar with these vapes, you may not even know what I'm talking about in regards to these features.

Regarding 'heat catch up', both give very powerful heat and both can provide plenty of it no matter how hard you draw or how frequently. I don't need to let either unit catch up between taking draws. For the Herbalizer that is expected, but with the Infinity, that was a bonus surprise. I am actually becoming more impressed with how my Infinity can keep up with Herbie in many respects. Lastly, the Herbalizer has a "fan assist" that pushes the air through to you so you don't even have to draw very hard, just inhale, this seems to be the best way to milk vapor out of Herbie.

This is not true for all models. With optimal heat retention there is no need for any pauses in the session.

Temp retention/recovery does vary from one model to another, but IMO that feature shouldn't be high on your list when choosing a vape to buy.

I strongly disagree with this sentiment. Heat retention varies greatly between models, and it can make a huge difference in the functionality of a vaporizer; especially in regard to group usage. Heat retention is far too critical to brush away as unimportant.

So I know it's not recommended but I am curious if a HT fits directly on Herbie's bowl? And if not, what's the best adapter to put on top of the bowl. I think I remember someone posting a reducer of some sort that went directly on the bowl via eBay on one post?

Also, what is the optimal grind consistency? I was thinking of purchasing a MFLB finishing grinder but it may be overkill as I own a 2pc Santa Cruz! Getting excited :peace:

Any thoughts on the aromatherapy aspect of Herbie? I was thinking about buying some doterra essential oils to see if Herbie can really diffuse the oils well

I tried to use the provided DeFunk, but I could not figure out how to get the oil out of the bottle, it does not squeeze easily, I ended up putting the bottle tip right on the pad and shaking upside down. It got a little oil and did provide a light aroma in the room, but I have no idea if I used it correctly.
