Are you SURE it's 2 minutes and not 12? ;-)Is

it showing signs of overheating? Try setting it on 2 and see what happens.

I tried it a few more times and on 2, and its switching off even sooner. with the idle light flickering for a couple of mins after

so are you all saying that when i get mine back from warranty replacement (old M107 that could NOT be used while plugged in) if it is a model that CAN be used while plugged in... that i should NOT use it while plugged in? so the new "feature" is not a good new "feature"???

This has been extensively covered now. Yes, the new "charge and use at the same time" feature in fact kills batteries very fast.

Sadly that seems to be the case. But I'm thinking that there's also some strange stuff going on sometimes? Lots of guys seem to report similar problems that don't seem to be related to battery condition.

Until we better understand this perhaps it'd be wise to be careful to unplug it promptly when it's done charging, or better still just before it shuts itself down?

That is I think it's the leaving it in that will be harder on the battery than 'use while charging'? It's the sitting at full charge 24/7 that's the bigger problem? I'm kind of surprised it's rearing it's ugly head so soon......

I makes sense that they would just allow leaking into the charge circuit while on, it makes some people unhappy to see it shut off if they plug it in during a session. But I'd consider that mode useless until proven otherwise, and battery charging is very easily messed up. Best to only charge when it's off, and then remove the charger a little before it completely charges. And never run it while plugged in again.

As to the 2 minute unit, if you can, exchange it, the problem could be anything at all. Replacing the battery might and might not fix it.

Really?? I used to leave my M107 on the charger overnight or even all day while it was at work and my battery never shown any degregdation In the close to two years that I owned it. Guess things have changed in the years since I bought mine

Bah, price of information. In 1968 I had German cops searching my room for some unrelated materials, and they were pondering a piece of hash with a psychedelic poster postcard in the envelope. They were focused on the postcard, how weird it was, and set the hash down on the desk. They had no idea what it was. Those were the days. Oh the funniest thing is that I was roommating with the Afghanistan minister of communications. He was pretending he didn't know what it was either. Hilarious.
Yeah. Back in the 60s in Seattle a bunch of my friends and I set up a giant 6 foot hookah on the beach at Lincoln Park. People walked by clueless. Course we also used to drop acid and go lay down at the end of the runway at Sea-Tac airport and watch the planes take off and land. Not to mention sparking up a joint right on the roof of the airport administration building. Try that today. LOL!! :spliff:

I tested some portable vaporizers today and the SOLO is still my favorite for ease of use and the flavor was really amazing!

Maybe it's my high quality cannabis?
Whatever works for you I guess?

One of my SOLO's I changed with this battery pack:
http://www.batteryjunction.com/tenergy-18650-2200-pk.html

I just kept it simple and did not try to reinvent the wheel.
This unit is fine over a year latter.
More isn't always better!
Teaspoon technology does not apply here.

Can you bring your SOLO?

I went san SOLO when I went on vacation for 10 days. When I got back my tolerance was way low!
Good because I was consuming way too much anyway!

I wouldn't be concerned bringing a vape anywhere. Its having stuff to put IN the vape that is the issue... or will be the issue anyway. No way Id bring raw MJ with me, and I have no connects for the stuff in Japan. Besides Ill be there for less than 5 days.

i would be nervous about bringing anything sniffable into Tokyo. Japan has long taken on the War as demanded by our govt. So seriously they have tons of desperate people sniffing glue. Really. Grown men in suits passing a paper bag around!!! Ah the old mitigation!

I would worry about getting the royal cavity search treatment if a dog hit on a vaporizer. About the only stuff they have is amph. and you have to be yakuza connected to get that. My friends come to Calif from Tokyo on medication vacation.

Its funny you mention "sniffable". See below. Also yes, thats what my friend told me last time I was in Japan... that there was no way to get MJ unless you have Yakuza connections. He would then point to random black Mercedes and BMWs and tell me those are Yakuza... this and that bar/club is owned by Yakuza... etc. I thought he was kidding at the time.

Yeah, if I'm traveling out of state I would leave everything behind, maybe some hash caps to take before crossing borders, but that's it. I can go without cannabis, and I can definitely go without jail time.

So Im thinking about taking some Pure Gold caps with me:

http://tetralabs.com/goldcaps.php

http://tetralabs.com/puregold_technical.php

TetraLabs-GoldCaps-25.jpg

These look just like a vitamin E cap, or what have you (in fact I have an empty bottle of vit E caps Id put it in). Also, since Pure Gold is a highly refined pure cannabinoid product, this would obviously have zero smell of raw cannabis which is what dogs alert to. Hell, they even remove the terps! It would also obviously pass the human detection test with flying colors.

Just a thought. Ideas? Maybe this needs its own thread... Its not really a "vape on a plane".

Started setting up a new storage case. So far, so good; I'll add another layer later.
Room for my Solo stems in the lid and the Solo has room next to the Persei. The Persei foam insert was easy to remove from the box and put in here, perfect fit. For now another piece of foam over the bottom row enables the Solo charger and car adapter to be carried as well.
I even found a way to safely carry my Pinnacle Water Tool as well.

solo&persei.jpg

Down to just 1/16th oz. of flowers (geez I vape an 1/8th a day). So that's why there's a new Persei there, I have plenty of whole cannabis oil and AVB oil. But the gods were not smiling :cuss: and the unit arrived with a bad battery. TCH Scientific and other good folks on the Persei thread have made some offers of help, so it may be online soon.
Meanwhile I have been revaping my Solo AVB through my EQ at 500 degrees and fan on high to extract what's left. Works O.K. especially for bedtime.
Newsflash: Just found some homemade hash: EQ wand goo combined with kief from the top of my little electric coffee/bud grinder. Pop it in my Solo sandwiched inside some bud. Now that's some goooood stuff. :smug:

Apples and oranges I think. The old scheme terminated charge, the new one is basically constantly charging it seems? Much like a cell phone does. I think we all know folks who 'always leave the cell phone plugged in so it's ready to go' that have had the battery life tank? Same thing here, I'm thinking.

Running the battery to the 'fully charged' wall from time to time is way different than forcing it's little face against that wall full time I think. That amounts to storage at 100% charge (not 98 or even 99% as it self discharges some), a known 'no-no' for this class of batteries?

My advice remains 'charge it when you need/want, but don't leave it plugged in. If you want best life (in number of vaping cycles), run each charge well down (but stop short of hard discharge), then charge until it's not quite 100% and stop the charge at that point.

Don't believe these caps are heat resistant. Take care not to cap too soon after a session, so not to melt the cap!
They are.

I put it on as soon as I am done and it is very hot. Never had a problem.

Awesome! Looking into these as would be great as part of quick session gear for the solo!

Actually they're not rated for high temperatures. "Maximum temperature is 140° F for 10 minutes.", not enough for us? But these are:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#84735k17/=r8e014

"Withstands temperatures up to 446° F for 10 minutes and has a durometer hardness of 88A"

They're stiffer and thicker (harder to get on cold) but our worst case temperature is well within their ratings. I have used both, have posted about them a few times, and have given some out to other happy campers.

While the MFLB battery isn't likely to be over 140F, the stem sure can be.

BTW, 'Chapstick' and similar lip balm tube caps also fit well......

Wow.

I just got my solo today. I feel like superman without a Cape

From the pictures I was expecting some silver plastic piece of shit. Pictures really don't do it justice. Very metallic and chrome looking in person.

Yes It makes you feel like you're really part of Futurama. Welcome to the Solo club.

First off, welcome to the Forum and all the fun. Great call on the Solo.

So you broke the code? Yup, it's even cooler that what you expect when you get it for most everyone I think. And it continues to impress as time goes on!

That, I think, is what's driving all this. Good folks sharing positive experiences (and fixing the problems), spreading the word as they go. As it should be.......

So your short term assignment is to get better acquainted with your new found friend.....followed hope with many happy (and productive for others) hours of sharing that good news.

Time's a wastin', lad, get cracking!

Thanks :D

Plus it can go in my pocket. If I can fit beer in my pockets I'm sure this will work.

You're welcome.

And it definitely does work. More over, a charged Solo in one pocket and stem and small vial of ground bud in the other will take you WAY further than any can of beer will....... Trust me on this, I've done the experiment.

Several times.

Hi folks,
I just received my new M1A4 silver Solo I purchased as a backup to my older M1A4 Solo that I bought about 6 months ago. I thought I’d post up some notes on the immediate differences I noticed between the two devices. One note to be aware of: I do not use glass stems at all. I have Ed’s TNT Blackwood stem and that is all I use.
  1. Yes, the new Solo appears to heat up a lot quicker than my old Solo. However, I wouldn’t say it’s that much better. I noticed that even though the new Solo was set to 3, it took a few draws until I noticed some vapor. So I wonder if the thing is really hot enough during that initial period after the temp reaches level 3 or if it’s just me and the way I’m using it.
  2. The Blackwood stem was an extremely tight fit into the new Solo, which was to be expected. I’ve always wondered why so many users here like installing o-rings on their Solos and it’s starting to make sense. The Blackwood stem provided a very secure and tight seal with the heating chamber, so much so that I could carry the Solo around by just the stem only. But what that tight seal resulted in was great vapor clouds after the Solo came up to temperature. The seal on my old Solo is not as tight anymore, but that’s with six months of use. In comparison, the new Solo provides much better vaporization than my old one. I might have to do some research and see if I can locate the stock seals that are used in the assembly of the Solo, just so I can tighten up the old one. I know an o-ring is option to consider, but I don’t like the fact that the o-ring can put undo strain on the plastic base (causing cracking around the screws) and prevent the cap from being screwed all the way down. But that’s just me and I know that there are plenty of users who swear by the o-rings.
  3. I noticed when drawing on the new Solo, the LED temp indicators would drop by two steps. When on level 3, the temp would drop to 1. When on 6, the temp would drop to 4. However, the temp would quickly recover within a few seconds. It’s just something I noticed right away as my old Solo never exhibited this issue. My guess is that the increased airflow (due to the larger holes in the heating chamber) coupled with my Blackwood stem which increases airflow even more is what causes the temp drops. However, this in no way affected performance / operation of the Solo as I was still able to enjoy nice hits full of vapor.
  4. I noticed that the new Solo appears to have a better battery life than the old one. I’ve found that I can get at least 6 to 8 sessions out of the new one until it’s time to recharge. In comparison, my old one gives me 4 to 5 sessions before the battery level has dropped to 2 and I need to recharge.
  5. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the four screws that hold the heating chamber together (at the top of the Solo under the cap). One of them was completely stripped out and was basically staying in place by a small amount of friction. My guess is that during assembly, the technician was probably over-zealous in the use of his screw gun / driver and failed to realize he/she stripped it out. There was also a small but noticeable gap between the composite pieces making up the heating chamber. As a stop-gap measure, I replaced the stripped out screw with one slightly longer so that the threads of the screw bit into some new plastic. This closed up the gap on the heating chamber. I think what I’m gonna do is hit up my local hardware store and pick up four new screws similar to the stop-gap screw I’m using now just to make sure of a tight and secure assembly. Rather than Phillips screws, I’m going to use socket cap screws so I can install them with an Allen wrench.
In the end, my “Silver Surfer” has become my primary Solo and the old Black one will become my backup device for occasional use only. I really like the performance of the new one, the tight seal on the stem, and the longer battery life.

I have the same Blackwood stem, but only use it rarely, like when I'm in the woods or garden working. It does simplify things. Being able to just throw it in a pocket without fear of breakage is a great help.
