to go from a February date to July shows just how green the team is, to not do the sourcing legwork and get proper lead times during the campaign is pretty pathetic. Let's hope their engineering acumen is better than their logistics acumen

I agree. I missed crowd fund op and have been anxiously awaiting this product but the drastic delay is huge imo. No prototypes have been released for review by anyone outside the company which is also a major problem. ....that's 2 big strikes. Plusses are the marketing claims, lifetime warranty, and projected price the item and accessories will be sold at but from what I have seen so far these guys seem to have no idea what they are doing on the production and business side of things so that makes me question the engineering skills and marketing claims. They are still in the prototype stage and clearly are very new to running a business. My guess is that IF this crowd funded prototype production is successful it will be another year before the tweaked, non-prototype versions are available for purchase and everything will cost 3 times as much to cover packaging, warranty, and overhead these guys didn't see coming. That's assuming the prototype doesn't totally suck which is a likely possibility at this point. I'm going to have to purchase a different portable vape because it's going to take these guys a long time to get their act together, assuming that ever happens. Don't get me wrong...I hope this vape turns out but it really isn't looking good at this point and everything is running on faith instead of facts which is not how I operate.

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry for the negative post but I felt strongly that I should post my concerns about this product. I've tried lots of portable vapes over the years and have been unsatisfied with the claims of the majority of them and see many signs of misleading marketing tactics from the grasshopper team. I think it is important that people know that the grasshopper vape is still in the prototype stage and is a long way from being available for purchase.

This is not a product this is an idea. My understanding of Indigogo is if you have an idea for a product or whatever you go to them and show them the idea. If they think it has merit for their site they will allow you to advertise your idea on their site. So you will make videos and pictures and facts to sell your idea. Then we go to Indigogo and if we think it is a good idea and we would like to see it built and own one we send them some money and we hope that we it will be built and wonderful. In the end there will be a result somewhere between it's a total fxxxing scam to this works even better than I could have hoped and I am so glad I contributed. If you want a product go to a store if you want an idea go to Indigogo. Everything that everyone is saying is speculation we won't know until we know. Take a deep breath and relax or use one of your other devices and try not stress.

Every single person that actually backed the project with their money knows that it is still a long way from being available.
But thanks for your concern- I'm not sure what all of us who pledged for this several months ago would have done with that timely wake up call....

@s00thsayer

Oh gosh, wait… I am backing.. a product that isn't available and won't be for some time??…

Thanks for pointing that out

The grasshopper vape guys had to know there was no way they were going to meet any of the deadlines they have released. Misleading your funders and potential customers is bad business in my opinion. FYI, my comments were less for the crowd funders and more for the people who are in the market for a new portable vape and were waiting for the grasshopper. The last word from the grasshopper guys to their potential customers said it would be available for sale this spring which we all know won't happen. :\ Enjoy your waiting party!

:doh:NO, the last word from Grasshopper was this.

To keep our shipping date realistic, we’re moving it to July. The delays are frustrating, especially to us. But our goal of delivering a great product stands above all else. We will not cut corners to save time or money, which is why you supported our project.

See our next schedualed update on April 1st!

Ok, this is what I don't get so if someone can explain the rationale behind this, I'd really appreciate it and please understand, my question has absolutely no negativity behind it at all.

I'm just trying to understand why anyone would "invest" there money for the "possibility" of owning a brand new product being offered to me at a discount, that one, may never arrive, that two, even if it does, there is a VERY big chance that it will not work properly in that most new product, ESPECIALLY ground breaking product that claims to do something in a form factor that hasn't been done before and is using brand new technology, goes through their growing pains and have all kinds of bugs that need to be worked out and three, that your money would be tied up for awhile and tied longer than expected, and four, that discount could probably be realized anyway after all the bugs have been worked out and the product has proven itself in the marketplace for a bit.

Typically, when one "invests" their money into a new start-up, they get a piece of the pie, if you will. They expect a return. What is the return here? Lot's of downsides, but I fail to see the upside unless being philanthropic is one of those upsides. Is that the key here?

People resort to crowd funding to raise money when they think they have no other way to manifest an idea.

People support crowdfunded projects when they see an idea they would like to become reality, and realize it won't otherwise see the light of day. To me it's a little like a political donation- there is no guarantee your candidate will be elected, but you feel strongly enough to want to do something to help it turn out the way you'd like.

I know I didn't say anything new, but I'm not really sure what more there is to explain.

So the main reason why one would do this is basically, a philanthropic one?

Even in political donations, people expect a return, either in the form of special favors when it is a large donation, or that the person with whom they are donating to will, in some way, make their life better.

If you want to discuss the philosophy of crowd-funding, please start a thread in the Lounge.

Sorry Paka. You're absolutely right. Haven't had my coffee yet.

mod note: I can tell. ;) Two posts merged.

Well with a life time warranty if it craps out or isn't working right.. They should send you another.. Hopefully at that point with the problem fixed if they see a pattern. I think lifetime warranty like with MFLB which is why I went for the grasshopper... It will not be a oh it don't work? Too bad! Lol

This might be just a stupid little detail or maybe a typo error but it says on their website the Grasshopper features a temp range between 100°c and 200°c now i could ave sworn i read 210°c somewhere before and even when attempting oils should be atleast 215 right or 210?

hi @Dopevape , yes,
on the indigogo site, on the startpage of the grasshopper they say:
" ...temperature is adjustable form 212f (100c°) to 410f(210c°)..."
...this is on that site since the beginning, i did not look at their homepage,,,
but, yes, i think 200c° would be to low for the oil attachment
,,, i'm no expert for oil, only tried them a few times in the x-treme q
and i had to crank the temp up to about 230-240c° if i remeber well,
but surely higher then 210c°...
maybe that is also only 'my' "extreme q"/oil and other people have had other/better xperiences with other/lower temps or devices..??

anyway, thanks for the information on that point!

Good catch, I'm curious as well so I sent Trevor an email asking him about the discrepancy. I'll followup with his answer once I get it, which should be pretty quick if his previous replies to me are any indication.

PS...Anyone download your order invoice from the backer site and notice the name that they registered their business under? Higher Education, LLC
