OK, a back to back post, sorry.
Well after 8 months of waiting Steve Beer actually sent me the replacement recycler for the one that broke in shipment last July... Long wait, but finally got it... Sorry, crappy pics, going to need to haul out the softbox soon...

Just got this for the wife from glassblowersdirect. Nice tiny pendant recycler. She loves it!

Wow, there's some beautiful glass here, guys!

Not a great photo, but for this, my only glass, I thank my wife. She ground the shop down to $200 from $350, she's a monster trader. It's not crooked in real life, and seems way too well made to be a Chinese me-too. It says "Diamond Glass". Anybody know what it is?

okay I found a similar one minus the colorful dome on Glassblowersdirect.com for $149. Do they sell all new? Chinese?

Oh, it could be Chinese glass made in the usa... I wouldn't worry about it. It looks well built and nice design. If it works for you don't look back... Retail stores have overhead so that isn't a bad price. Blackleaf's which are similar sell for at least that much

I purchased a piece almost identical to this a month or so ago from a seller on ioffer.

As far as I could gather, our own @redglassgallery of aeon glass was helping with the assembly of the pieces, but the seller I purchased from was ~~pirate glass gallery (or something like that)~~ Black Sheep Gallery
When I asked the seller, he said it was Chinese glass on the higher end of the stuff available, and all the work/assembly was done in the US.

He was charging $250 for the all clear version, and $285 for the one with black lip wraps, so I'm kinda bummed I overpaid considering GBD now has it for $150.

I'm kinda suspicious now that it may be a Chinese made piece, given its popped up at GBD, but as far as I know all the GBD stuff is US made too, so :shrug:

Either way, it's a fun piece to use

Dude! I'm so glad you responded. we weź told it's not Chinese, and sure nuff the glass is good and thick, so who am I to know ... But it was one of the better pieces at this head shop. They were asking $350, and some students were likely payin' those kinds of prices.

I'm trying to learn more about this piece, we'll see. Truth be told if they can make a half decent violin, they can make a fuckin solid waterpipe. And, I love my Chinese telecaster. I almost put up a picture of my tele...

You're exactly right!!!
GBD actually sells most of their stuff from China.
It's been a long time. My GBD FC official bubbler come with very poor quality downstem and accessories.
What this so called "made in USA" company did, is to forget to unstick the really too little and concealed "made in China" cheapo printed stickers.
So, I'm really surprised that no one had said or notice anything before.
I'm pretty sure all cheap glass nowadays come from China.
Who is stopping people from importing glass?? How can we tell if it is an unbranded piece??
I'm sure there's plenty of enough better blowers by bulk from China than elsewhere in the world. I mean expertise, paid that little for the job.
I'm more worried nowadays that Chinese blowers are getting so good that people all over the place, we are profiting from them... But that's life...
I only hope that real high end scientific glass blowers don't end just importing HQ Chinese top shelf glass, and brand it here to make $$$$$ profit...
IMO most of all accessories we actually buy nowadays made of glass, are coming from India & China...

im not sure about GBD importing - dont know their business

but I DO KNOW diamond glass - they are close to my shop and they have a sizeable operation 10+ Lathes

so im not sure if they are importing or not but they DO make tubes here in the US

and yes mostly ALL accs are imported - which is why our shops doesnt make downstems and bowls

So, my first custom worked piece. From J Proper at Oil Glass Contraptions. It's about 7" tall and while it's tough to see because of the fume work, the whirlpool action is very nice in the small chamber.

These are some split shots of the details without and with a flash followed by some video.

It does look nice, but I forgot to include this paragraph that I did include in the Recycler Appreciation thread.

This piece isn't perfect. I don't know if the offset return stem and subsequent mouthpiece are on purpose. There are a few bubbles in jointed areas and there's a rather sharp chunk of glass still fused to the back of the honeycomb drip. I was given a discount.

OK, Sam (?) from GBD says he got that piece in the downtown LA glass wholesale markets, and very honestly says he doesn't know where it came from, could be US made, US assembled Chinese glass, or altogether made in China. He says he was attracted to it as the quality is superb, but that Chinese stuff, although imitative, is getting very good, and that a lot of much cheaper well-made glass than before is on the market, and he's a free market kind of guy. I think that answers the question well enough.

@redglassgallery, where is this Diamond Glass? I couldn't find any Diamond Glass besides a very old traditional factory, in New England I think, that was acquired and devoured by some Merger and Acquisitions jerks a while back.

I guess the days of the $800 bong are fading. He was explaining how the labor in making a piece like this is in the preparation. Once the components are available and laid out, it's not difficult to "melt" them together.

Love that Zoo glass up front!! Mine was a fave of mine and my buddy till my joint broke off it.. Probably a simple fix. Got a call in to a local blower now.. Also, MAN the tall domes on those mini cups!! Haha I'd def run into the side trying to get my dab down to the nail in one of those! Awesome collection though! Love 10mm rigs myself. May take a group shot later on..

Sorry about the back to back posts, but I just got a new piece :rockon:

It's not perfect, there's bubbles in the bridge as you can see, but it feels solid and for $40 with the nail I couldn't pass it up. :brow:

I'm curious if this is an apollo piece or not, the shop I got it from didn't know.
