Discontinued The Sublimator

smokum

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Well I'll be damned !!

And all this time I was worried about breaking wires, or fucking something up with 'deep' dabbing the air inlet holes from what we were told early on

glad to know I can actually get in there and clean it up

Hey everyone,

I mentioned it in the XLR2.0 thread but it's more imperative for all version one users.

Unfortunately, The heat shield is only for the XLR2.0 model. Please do not try and take your version one apart as this will void your warranty. Yes, we will know if it has been tampered with so again, version one users please don't take it apart.

Thanks.

Good luck trying to figure out that I "tampered" with mine. The top came loose just by using it every day. Screws back on like it never came off!

I'll probably never upgrade this one anyway now that I've been enlightened by grokit. Version 1 ftw!!!

So my dabmaster is arriving Friday :) can ya'll please share any tips, tricks, and advice regarding using the sublimator? thanks so much!

gooner123,
Hey guys, just thought i'd post some pictures of my personal touches to my rig.

StandMod_zps2dcc99bd.jpg

The need for this first "mod" was abundantly clear to me when i first started using the stand.

ParacordMod_zps650c724f.jpg

I wrap a lot of my skeletonized knife handles with paracord, so i thought "why not wrap this handle as well?"

mod note: Fixed. You must link to the image and not the host page. For photobucket, use the Direct link at the left side of the page.

Alright I have two questions about the UFO and search is down........
First, isn't the accepted "thing" that the sublimator does mainly "reheating" the vapor in the HOT narrow atomiser causing expansion?(correct me if I'm wrong). Does the UFO attain this compared to an atomiser heated with an Apollo to "Thermal Equilibrium", a state I thought was critical to the whole expansion/"sublimation" process......

Second is a question that possibly would have answered the first one, and maybe should have been asked first.......Does the UFO+atomiser produce sublimate? This is one of the big factors subs have going for them, and one of my main interests in the device.

On a side note has anyone had the UFO shipped internationally, I can't imagine two pieces of metal would bring much if any tax, not being electronic, has this been the case for anyone.

Thanks SUBculture

I have extensive UFO experience.

Short answers - have not used Apollo, but from videos and reading I believe UFO is as effective but has less direct control over temperature sweet spots. All other aspects operate the same.

Yes, UFO makes sublimate just as well as other sub models.

I have no clue about int'l shipping.

Enjoy the sub if you get one! When the zombie age comes, this will prob be my last surviving vape.

Tip - use a propane torch or one of those super high powered butane models. Most butane chef's torches are not powerful enough.

I know I have been absent for quite a while - took me a couple of hours to actually catch up on the thread from where I left off.

All I have to say is that I've been left feeling sad, jilted and empty inside from the overall change in tone from a thread that was so full of happiness, camaraderie and excitement to one of disappointment, embitterment and complete disregard of the loyalty that allowed for the expansion that resulted in those who ought to be thanked being left by the wayside.

We deserve better.

Couldn't agree more. Sublimator will not recieve another dollar from me. I was a huge fan and supporter, but that is no longer the case.

I don't reccomend buying a Sublimator to people anymore.

We will never see a moon tool for 1.0 users. Can't you guys already tell? They're not being compassionate about the upgrade. It actually costs less in total to buy a new Sublimator + tube kit rather to upgrade. On top of that, they require us to send back our old unit. The amount totals up to about 9 bills after recredit and losing your old unit. I wouldn't mind if it was cheaper like say 100 bucks to upgrade but I am surely not going to drop about 4 bills to get a new controller and 1 year warranty. OG subbers get 2 years warranty. I don't even know what the 10 years parts warranty is really liable for. BTW, he has the new moon tool with a light or whatever and pretty sure it will be on sale for all soon. That's just my assumption for having to wait this long for the damn tool.

I'll just say this: I fell in love with the Sublimator long before they found FC to help market the beta line (OG sub) watching them use it on pot.tv for several months. I am very happy to see Sublimator taking off so well in other countries too, but there is a bit of a sense of being left in the dust with the promise of the moon tool not being met, and I'll also agree, the trade in seemed too high in price structure, being released just 6 months after the initial launch and considering how much the "OG" unit cost. I just hope these guys can learn a little bit from this experience, early adopters are very important to the launch being successful so don't forget about us eh??

I still love my Sub and use it daily. Personally, I do not hold any bad feelings what so ever for Sublimator or any of the team, they just seem to be on a fast track of success (good for you guys and gals!) and it's easy to loose sight of your roots when that happens.
 Best wishes to all involved from early adopters to future sub owners. I hope my OG sub keeps running strong so I can keep enjoying it, as it may be a while before I have another chunk of $ to throw down on a replacement.

Couldn't agree more about the empty promises and general disregard for the 1.0 customers, to the point of blaming us for using the provided override when the timer boxes broke down. Just think how easy it would have been to make the small gesture of saying, "hey why don't all you 1.0 owners register your warranty on our website, and we will send you out a moon tool in appreciation" (like they promised anyways). Hell they could have included a t-shirt or something and we would be singing their praises instead of this crap, for a very minimal cash outlay on their part.

Instead they are reportedly already improving on and planning on monetizing the moon tool?

Even the separation of the 1.0 and 2.0 threads reeks of this perceived abandonment,
but hopefully this thread will take on more of a diy type of vibe since our ostracization :2c:.

Look ma, no timer!

The silver lining for myself (and hopefully other 1.0 owners) is that I have discovered that the sub works just fine with other dimmer/controller boxes. In fact, for this post I swapped in the ~$30 pre-made box shown above in place of my homemade one, and got over 67 watts, even better performance than the one I made, and 12+ watts over what I was getting with the stock box running at its best! This doesn't change much for me in actual use, but I'm glad that the ceiling has been raised. How many watts does the 2.0 get up to;)?

edit: I added the wink-face above because I realize that this may be hard to measure comparatively.

I also wanted to add that with my homemade box I may be able to get even more wattage, as the whole point of that box was to be able to easily swap out individual components (in this case the dimmer).

And just in case any of you were wondering,
the wires to the apollo stay cool to the touch even when on maximum power.

Wow that's awesome. There was no modifications to the head of the apollo? Did that just end up as a perk after splicing the wires? You know I gave in and just kept using override now. I don't actually hear a buzzing anymore so I'm gonna continue to do it. Approximately 7-12 hours running and everything is running well. My highest wattage is 52-53.

Thanks :)

Yes all I did was cut the box out of the equation, and splice the wires together. From there you are free to use whatever dimmer you want, with or without a timer your choice. The only hard part was making my homemade box, more expensive than complicated if you have a working knowledge of ac switch wiring.

When I turn on the sub it starts at around 40 watts then drops down. My unit maxes at between 31 and 34 units.

Is it the timer/controller box or the heating element that is limiting my wattage?

That's too bad. It sounds like you have the usage range (barely),
but not enough power for short burn-offs/cleanings.

Since the stock controller box was made to disposed of rather than repaired,
there's only one way to find out that I can think of, and that's to try a different box.

I suppose you could always re-splice the stock controller box back in,
but your warranty at that point would be toast!

See now, that wasn't so bad. Comes off pretty easy. Goes back on no problem, and now I'm about to hit the thing now that it's heated up again. Cheers everyone.

It looks like a reshaped soldering iron with a heavy heatsink screwed on at the end of it.

Morning Subculture. First time poster, long time lurker. My name is Tim and I have a problem I am hoping to get some help with.

I currently use a Volcano Digit for my vaporizing needs. I have been looking at buying a Sublimator and doing the research.. Is it worth buying the XLR version or should I go for the Version 1 with the timer box? Sublimator has a great deal for the full version 1 kits right now.

Now I realize that version 1 was problematic with some boxes buzzing? or worse. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I know its all subjective but thats ok.

Thanks
Tim
