I wonder if they will be able to release the oil front-end at the same time as the Grasshopper.

Given many of the reasons for delay are electronic fine tuning and waiting on manufacturers, the Grasshopper team could potentially have their hardware guys focus on the oil front end while they wait for parts to come in and the software guys are cracking the code. No idea of the team make up or anything, just wishful thinking for those who invested in the oil piece aswell.

Hey, at least they are keeping to the schedule for the updates!

But July is a long way away

I contributed to this campaign with my eyes wide open - that said I am underwhelmed so far- to go from a February date to July shows just how green the team is, to not do the sourcing legwork and get proper lead times during the campaign is pretty pathetic. Let's hope their engineering acumen is better than their logistics acumen

i would rather wait until July and have a solid unit with no quarks or issues. I'm sure they're all as excited as we are to release it. I'd rather wait a few more months, than have something not ready to be release or a shotty product. we put our faith and cash in their hands, now we gotta trust them when they say what they say.
imagine if they released it with issues, customer service would be a nightmare for everyone!
hey.....at least its not August!

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

I think it would be helpful for those that are anxious to think/realize/feel/hope that these are pretty young kids just out of college.

Keeping this in mind, realize that, first of all, they are engineers. Good intentions, but, well, they are engineers.

Next, they undoubtedly went in thinking if they could build a prototype for themselves, heck, it's gotta be just a bit harder to build 1,000 (or more!).

Finally, appreciate that they are not marketing whizzes. They'd be filling our heads full of lies if they were.

In other words, wait for a great product and try not to sweat the details that are very likely not important in the grand scheme of things.

most importantly, they are definitely passionate about their product. that is obvious. and, as you stated they are in college, so this is going to be a huge step in their careers. keep that in mind. if your an engineer/designer, you definitely want your first endeavor to be a huge success. if that means waiting a bit longer. i think i can handle that.
they're doing all the work.

Not to be inflammatory or anything, but I don't think the picture you paint is quite the case. This isn't the first product they've designed, and they certainly aren't fresh out of college. If anything, this vape is their pet project IMO :2c:

i do believe it's their first vaporizer, so out is probably much different from past projects.

So I emailed Trevor at Grasshopper about the seeming water adapter discrepancy and he said "Yes, there will be an included adapter for all indiegogo purchasers. This is so we can accommodate everyone more easily."

I've asked if the deal still applies to purchasing from the backer's site and it is a yes!

What makes this worth waiting for? so far i see long waiting time & bronze heating element, 1st 1 could be ok they get it right 1st time & if it was worth the wait.

At first the July date seems like massive delay, but in all fairness, I would infinitely prefer they come out be like "Okay, its gonna' take ages we won't have them until July" vs them continually saying that its gonna' be another 3 weeks, then another 3 weeks then another 3 weeks continually until July. That is much more frustrating and seems to happen a lot in the vaporizer market.

Right. You know how at the airport, they just keep telling you "another hour" twelve times, because they think people will be less upset in tiny chunks? I once waited nine hours at an airport where it would have taken me five to rent a car and drive home.

I'm much happier with the honest projection. Thinking about the complications involved in engineering, manufacturing, and coordinating production on the other side of the planet, I don't know how they ever imagined it would only take a few months.

as i first saw you mentioned airports i instantly thought of the new berlin airport. :) projected to open in june 2012 and now not to be open in 2014 at all. one of the reasons was planning issues. with this in mind, i'm happy to wait till july for my zenhopper if it means it's going to be a perfectly planned and produced unit.

Indeed! We believe honesty is the best policy, its what endeared many people to the project in the first place! We want to remain transparent and make everyone feel like they are part of the journey. I want to thank everyone for being cool about the delay, we know you've all been waiting patiently. We believe this is our one shot to get it right and we want to blow our indiegogo supporters away with the product we deliver to them. Many campaigns end up sending some half baked product to their backers to meet deadlines and we feel this hurts the product but also the crowd funding community. Companies should take care of their backers, not do the minimum to satisfy their obligation and move on to the next customer. We wouldn't delay if we didn't think the backers would ultimately feel that it was worth it when they're holding it in their hands.

Stay tuned for more updates, we'll post some media once we're done the less then glamorous lawyer and logistics stuff and have something cool to show you!

I believe they are a victim of their own success. I don't thing they anticipated $365000 from indigo. So in their minds they thought that they would have to build 500 units something that could be done by a group of guys on their own in a reasonable time frame i.e. the original projected ship date and then they could look at a larger scale operation for the future. Once the numbers reached a certain point it became logistically impossible and required a rethink and a jump from small time to big time with all the attendant time delays because now it's not their group building but negotiating with manufacturers and setting up contracts etc.. I would have gotten in on this when I heard about it in December but cash flow didn't allow at that time but even thought I don't have an investment in their project I really hope it does create a revolution in personal portable vaporizers. If the campaign were reopened today I would contribute. To those that are yelling I paid for this no you didn't you contributed to help a product get off the ground and in return were promised a product at a good price if or when they are successful.

I've already got mine and am using it now. It's the best thing since sliced cheese. I literally cream my pants with each hit. Did I mention that it makes sammiches too?! (The best is the roast beef, honey ham and turkey breast with extra thick bacon on a toasted pumpernickel with mayo and lettuce, it's the grasshoppers specialty and the bees knees)
