Thank you for the information. I've been reading all kinds of things about how to store your botanicals and, while I have heard about the freezer/coin thing before, I'd never seen it so vociferously advocated as when I look at other sites. Glad to get some clarity here,

The plastic base on my solo cracked around one of the screws. This is a weak point in the unit. I loosened my screws a little when I received it, like others have said to do and it still cracked. Good thing it still works, I will test it right now just to make sure

We have repairs for that, you know. Has to do with adding some washers to displace the pressure, you get to put some Jude felt liner on the bottom so it doesn't scratch anything. @OF might have a link bookmarked, search function is currently down.

What type of washer like a neoprene or fiber washer?

Brand new user with a Solo coming tomorrow, any other modifications people do?

The ID and OD (3/16) are critical to fit. The taper on the screw must hit the ID right and the OD has to be wide enough to support the flat part outside the countersink without overhanging the outside cutting your hand and such.

This puts the top of the screws about .060 inches proud, as the Qman says you need to cover that somehow. I've used self adhesive 1/16 neoprene gasket material (makes a nice rubber bottom) notching the corners for the screw and cutting a window for the cord and vents as well as trimming to size after it's stuck on.

I've also used self adhesive felt (like for the bottom of table lamps) with success. Here I've just 'pasted over' the screws (no notches) so it ends up with four little felt covered feet.

No, SS. Soft washers won't work here. You have a tiny rim to support, you need firm big time, that's the whole point.

The important part is to be sure the flange is snug and square before you put the screws in. Any load on the screws is pushing the countersink into very thin plastic, a wedge, with predictable results. Loose screws (whoever came up with that lame idea?) are exactly wrong as well. Any play will sooner or later be fatal. You need the screws snug enough to prevent all movement, but not so tight that they try to force a bigger hole in the tab. Loose is definitely a problem. Tabs will break.......

I have 2 Solos, There hasn't been any problems with the bottom area where the small screws are. With the new model Solo you shouldn't need anything, except for some medicinal herb that's dry and ground.

The air flow is much better with the new model. You will have to make your own judgement whether or not you want the PVHES stems, but I don't feel that I need them. I still continue to use them with my older model Solo because of the restricted air flow.

I dropped the stock mouthpiece stem of the newer model Solo from about 2 ft onto a wood floor, it did not break or crack. That's durable, the stock stems seem to be made with real thick glass. I have dropped stems before and they have broken. Maybe it was the way the piece fell, I don't know.

If you want this to be more portable you could use the wooden stems by Ed. I haven't received my Granadillo stem by Ed that I ordered yet because there's a back log at Puffitup.

Just relax and enjoy, you will find your sweet spot with some practice. Mine is starting on level 3, then 4 stay on 5 until it shuts off. I usually later finish the bowl off on level 4 and 5 with another 12 min session, I very seldom go past 5. The ABV is still light enough for edibles. If I go another session the ABV is too dark if I wanted to cook with it.

If I am using a water tool I go to level 6 and 7. I have the pinnacle pro water tool that I use. My plans are to buy a bubbler in the near future. GHgate seems to have really cheap prices, and some great comments from FCers of the quality of the products.

Quite often it's trial and error, or what works for you.

There's a lot of portable vaporizers out there on the market but not on the same quality and sturdiness of the Solo, not to mention the flavor and the price.

Once again, PP is speaking the plain truth. With the possible exception of dropping it or something, I think all the broken tabs have been messed with by owners for one reason or another. Until I figured out why, I broke several right after opening them up (which I did a lot early on). If you don't mess with the screws I doubt you'll have any problems with breaking tabs (Arizer could go broke replacing units otherwise???).

I also agree, use it as it comes out of the box first. The maker really has tried to do a good compromise to meet a wide variety of users. Time enough for trying to improve it once you get a handle on using the stock parts. It's a very individual thing, I think. Like letting others pick out glasses for you....... The decision should be based on your experience, not the opinion of some random net.guy.

High-temp silicone o-ring size 113 under the cap to keep stems firmly in place. If it's too thick and doesn't let your Solo cap screw back on, place on tape and apply it to sandpaper, making sure to evenly thin it out. 1/2" stainless steel screens, mesh size is preference (I like extra fine), lifetime supply of them for around $10 from ebay. If you want to use less material and still keep it close to the heater, put a dome screen in like so (clickable link). Fully charge it up before using it for the first time, do 2 dry burns at 7 (turn on to 7 and let it cycle for two 12 minute sessions [it will shut off by itself]). Don't pack your stems too tight. Place loaded stem into your Solo and select heat level, let it sit for ~20-30 seconds once it's there before drawing, guaranteed milky hits.

If anyone here thought they are harmful, they wouldnt be using them. In fact i think the Solo is one of the "cleanest" portable vapes. Just buy it and enjoy.

Like @cawshook said there aren't any "bad/toxic" Solos out? You might have been reading the Ascent thread because I don't remember reading any posts here recently about funny smells? Read from the last 100 pages back, you'll get an idea about the Solo and how reliable it is. A lot of the stuff is repeated over and over so it's not going to be a full 100 pages of reading.

There is always danger when using batteries, I have not read about a Solo battery having a critical failure and causing any sort of harm.

The Solo is regarded as one of the best portable vaporizers for a reason. If it were toxic, it wouldn't be popular. If it sucked, people wouldn't constantly recommend it.

The bad smell with Solos was when they first started out, some years back. That was at the beginning of this thread wasn't it? No bad smell now. Pure clean, smooth vapor is what you will get. The only thing you will smell is herb while it first heats up.

I'm in my car right now sitting waiting in the hospital parking lot for my brother to have hernia surgery (no big deal). Just a day surgery. He needed a driver to sit and wait, so that's me, took a day off from work. Passing my time using my Solo and browsing through FC. With my IPad. Using my little internet hotspot.

Love the freedom with a portable vape, no smell like combusting to make you feel paranoid.

Solo is fantastic. A few months back I was developing a smoker's cough so I went to a local headshop looking for a vape. Almost impulse bought the MFLB on the spot. So glad I decided to do some research first. Holy smokes, I'd be recharging AA cells 24/7. Also, health was my number one concern when making the switch. My opinion is that convection is absolutely, positively a better option than conduction. Only my opinion, purely convection vs conduction and the resulting vapor.

After about 50 pages of this thread, I pulled the trigger. This was about 3 months ago. M1C1 unit. It will work when plugged in, which has been useful on a few occasions. It has some quirks but not in the vapor production department. I prefer straight stems as they allow me to make an accurate visual reading on the vapor. I use a domed screen, mostly for reduced capacity. I like to start fresh every time.

Such a different experience than smoking. The first thing to get used to was session length. I used to step on the back porch with my small glass pipe. During colder weather, I could medicate in under a minute. Not the case with the Solo. It will take 8-12 minutes. It is interesting to monitor different strains and their vapor production. I'm sure it would be possible to at least calculate the difference in potency if not an actual quantity, assuming everything is properly dried. Ok I'm nerding out about a lifestyle device. In conclusion the Solo has me feeling healthier, and my supply lasts roughly twice as long as it did when I was a burner. Thank you to everyone who has ever contributed to this thread in a positive way.

A warm FCer welcome to you Fozzie Bear. So you have joined the Solo Fan Club. I am enjoying the longer battery life of the new unit that I have. I do have a car charger, so that helps on the go if I don t use my Ascent.

I found that my health improved a lot when I switched from combusting over a year ago.

I have this Lemon Haze that is vaping so well right now Whole nuggets or fine grind, both are nice!!

I have little cracks at three of the screws. Will it get worse?
Is there anything I can do to repair and stop it from happening more?

Pinnacle, I am definitely feeling the benefits in my lungs. My laughs don't sound as nasty. The smokiness is disappearing from my singing voice, but nobody wants to hear that anyway. My girlfriend rarely if ever touches the stuff and she really, really appreciates that I no longer smell like smoke.

There is an online review (by an Aussie- that should narrow it down) that led me to believe this was an efficient method. However, the color of the ABV was not consistent. I'd find green patches in my little expired disks of ABV. I picked up a nice aluminum 4 piece grinder (along with a nifty little pollen press) and I'm all fine grind ever since.

Got a great deal on some Snoop's Dream back in January and it has been more than sufficient. A little over a week ago I scored some frosty Blue Dream and it is undoubtedly more potent. It seems to vape for double the time. It doesn't want to quit at the end of 12 minutes. However, I'm in Washington and it is cheap enough that I load a fresh one unless maybe I have some keef hash mixed in. So right now it is Blue Dream all day. Maybe some of the Snoop's Dream at night, and a little in the morning if there is some left in the grinder.

I seem to go through one full charge a day. Probably 6-8 sessions but who's counting. Very convenient little device, and now that I'm past the learning curve I can get things done and just use the Solo in the background. Or so I tell myself.

The power adapter is fantastic and converts it into a capable little desktop unit. Plus doesn't use battery for me,, I recently went a few weeks without charging it and using it multiple times a day.

If you take the battery out of the unit, will it still work with that power supply? I'm sure this has been discussed on one of the almost 1000 pages...

I like the convenience of cordlessness. Also, I'm looking forward to building my own battery pack when that time comes. So far, I've only had to use it while plugged in due to poor planning on my part. I'd think at some point they will decide to make new units with a modular battery pack. That would look sweet, if you could just press a little button and pull the battery off the side like an old cordless phone, without opening it up. They have the room. And they could put a couple of small contacts on the bottom of the Solo, and make a charging base.

If the battery level is down to two at the beginning of a session, it needs to be plugged in at the end. I find that it will not maintain heat when the battery is very low- it will still be on, and act like it is trying to heat up, but the temperature drops drastically when drawing vapor.

So @Fozzie Bear, do you vape the same load several times during the day? On my FireFly I load tiny amounts, a tiny pinch of shredded bud, and start over each time. That way I can get the exact fractions I want. I llike the lowest temp ones best during the day, the higher temp ones make me too suppressed, but they're good in the eve. How small an amount can you load into the Solo? Use a screen?

I never vape the same load twice, unless I have some keef hash mixed in. If it is just flower, which is 99% of the time, I'm done with it at the end of 12 minutes. It is usually pretty much baked by then, unless I put it down and forget about it (rare occurrence). It goes into the tin of ABV, which will eventually simmer for a day or so in some butter. The butter will then be strained and baked into some brownies.

I use a domed screen. I'd say I pack 0.2g at a time, tops. Probably less. I can pack it loose for a light (4-5 minute) session, in that case I'd say 0.1g at most. 1g a day seems about right, maybe 1.5. That is 8 full loads, so 0.2g max per load seems accurate.

this is my first post in this community, im new to vaping (as my username states lol) and ive been reading through some of this forum and you all seem to be glad to help others and a friendly community. i searched on our siblings forum grasscity.com for help on this matter but didnt find too much, so hopefully i can get some answers on the problem i have here

so i recently bought the latest version of the arizer solo (2014 m1e) off a legit seller on ebay and am having problems with charging it. it came a few days ago, and i vaped for about 3 or 4 12 min cycles before it ran out of charge. my home's socket plugs look like this so i had to go out and get an adapter that fits the charger.. i got a universal adapter from a store nearby.. has a 13A fuse and is compatible with 240V...

so when i plug the charger into the adapter the light shows up on the charger to show it has a connection.. i then proceed to plug the charger into the solo, when i do this.. it makes the beep, the blue idle light comes on, and the 'charge' light flashes from red to green. now at first i thought okay awesome its charging. brilliant, but then after a few hours i took the charge out and when i tried heating it up it heated to like 4 then said it needed charge. *facefuckingpalm* was so annoyed as i was about to have a nice sesh with my boy haha. so i went home and tried charging it again later that night (we just smoked some bowls to get over the dissapointment) but the same thing happened.. idle light comes on and charge light flashes red, green, red, green. ive tried charging from different sockets, tried different adapters which show that there is electrical current going through to the charger into the device.. and the guy in the shop proved that and said that there was most likely a problem with the internal charge of the unit. so im likely gunna send the unit back unless there is any way to fix this. appreciate any help

Hopefully im not straying to far from topic but is arizer working on any more designs like a smaller compact solo. I lovemy solo just wondering as the years go by if they have a new concept.

My method is the same... start at 3.. usually finish at 4. I'm a sucker for the real tasty vapor.. but to hear you finish at 5 and then go for another 12min session..wow! I wonder if it's because I use a Shorty PVHES stem and GonG that I feel as though I'm using so little medicine that "it must be done by now". Even when I use my Pinnacle water tool I go about it the same, now I'm wondering what I'm missing!

This might help. Doing a reset, soft and hard.
You did do a full charge before you started using it, correct?

I think we all would like for Arizer to tell us information on changes and such. However, they seem to be very secretive over such stuff and we only find things out from our member's reports.
In fact they seem to like keeping us confused on some things. Like serial numbers....opps nasty word here. Getting to be more meaningless all the time.
A new smaller design concept.....would be a hit...

It could depend of the strain of herb, how dry it is depends on how long it will last before it's spent. You could have a lot harder of a draw than another person. There are a lot of variables to consider.

I could use a bullet with the Pinnacle Pro for a least 2 seven min sessions, before the herb was done. While others would go just one 7 min session and everything was spent after that.
