Hey everyone what do you think is the best way to use the ascent for hash/kief like best temps? How to load it since it can be really small pieces?

I'm not sure how high the temp, I've tried it with some reclaim on cotton and I started at 400F and gradually went up to 420 got some vapor not much, did get a little medicated. I didn't have much, enough for a 5 min session is all. I put it in the oil can. I didn't feel very successful.

I have tried kief in with some herb, but no hash, I vaped at between 400 and 410 had wrapped it in organic cotton.

When the vapor is gone, medicine is gone. The color is a dark brown when herb is spent, depending on the product. Crunchy to the feel, no oil. Sometimes it's just personal preference. Some folks like to have lighter ABV to save for cooking.

Alright so how do you tell a done bowl I'm going 360 and I've gotten like 50hits I can still see vapor under good lights? When is done?

When you say it is?

Fairly soon you start to get 'diminishing returns'. Not only does the concentration of vapor decline but the chemical nature of the vapor changes. The most active part, THC, is amongst the first fractions to come off. As this is exhausted, 'heavier' (atomic weight wise) components (many also psychoactive) make up larger and larger percentages of the vapor. The vapor you get later on in a session is different that what you get at first in it's effect on you.

Lots of guys have picked a point on this process to end vaping and save what's left in the ABV for other uses. Some save it to eat. Some save it for lean times in the future. Some of us simply use what we can get practically and discard the rest (to the chagrin of those who see it). A lot has to do with the depth and cost of your stash and your tolerance of course.

Most learn to judge when it's done to their standards by color, taste or other factors. I'm sure you will to as you go on. Most guys stop somewhere between 'fresh tobacco' and 'roasted coffee'???

Anyone got a chart of stuff ( usually) in marijuana and what temperature they evaporate at? Even the stuff past 430? That'd be great :D

P.s. Ascent made me addicted to weed - lawsuit pending

Roughly 420 and I got the temp at 430 cause I'm too lazy to reload.

In the directions it says 5-7 hours. I would unplug it and see what the battery says after it's unplugged. You can use it plugged in too. Try it out and see what happens......

You mean like this one?

You need to be careful about this sort of logic. This is not a digital deal, but rather analog.

Such a table would list the Boiling Point of water at 212F (110C), right? Yet we all know that plenty of evaporation happens at much lower temperatures than that. Rather, temperatures below the BP (but well above the freezing point usually) involve both evaporation and condensation at the same time usually (once the temperature is stable, it's different rising or falling). In our world water evaporates as temperatures rise and puddles dry, but there's also rain and fog in there. Same in vapes, we get condensate when the vapor cools.

All you can really draw from such tables are broad guidelines I think. A guide for how the fractions 'come off' as the temperature rises, but there's LOTS of THC available before the BP, and fair amounts of stuff that doesn't boil until well past 430. When 100% of the load is past 400F nearly all the THC is gone, but so is a lot of the other stuff that boils at even higher temperature. Just like your Levis get dry without having to roast them in the dryer.

No pat answers I think, all part of the fun? As Dick Martin once opined, 'I don't want some machine selecting women for me, I want to mix the Martinis and screen 'em myself'.

Question: I have been using 5 glass flowers in my sessions because we'll it is all I have left, I just ordered more today. I have been putting 2 glass flowers in bottom of bowl. Putting around 0.3g of herb in chamber packing it down then last 3 flowers on top. Is this effective? I'm watching UK game now and want to do a looooong sess h by myself at like 350 or 360 using 0.3g of herb. Should I just put herb in. Bowl, pack down, fill with flowers? Or is my way efficient?

Ideas.?..

I think you can have a lot of fun experimenting. After some fiddling around I decided 7 was the best number for me. Less causes longer sessions but more trouble getting thick vapor. More didn't seem to increase vapor all that much, but started taking up valuable 'herb space' in the bowl.

Handled correctly this set of experiments will take a very long time to complete and may have to be redone a few times........

My advice is to enjoy the ride.

I, like @OF, use around 7 or 8 flowers. I put 2 in the chamber first (toss them in, no specific 'direction). then i put in just enough to cover the flowers. Tamp it down gently with my 3D printed tamping tool (available for sale in my store), toss in 1 or 2 more glass flowers (depending on how much herb I want to use), and then toss another layer of herb. I use my tamp to tamp it down gently. I then top it off with as many flowers as I need to fill the void (usually 3 to 4 flowers).

Since you only have 5 flowers, I personally would use more herb(.4 or .5 ?). Put 2 glass flowers in first, layer of herb, put one flower in the middle, fill more herbs, and top it off with 2 well-placed flowers (stems pointed down into the herb).

Nice 10-second draws produce plenty of vapor clouds. My 15 minute timer usually goes off before I finish my session!

Question for everyone - I know how to configure a 3-step session - but how do I 'execute' the session? The instructions manual never covered it

@OF how much herb you use?
I don't really, not any more. The unit I tried was on loan from Nigel. If you look back (use search on my name?) I ran a bunch of tests using thermocouples to measure temperature in the load at various points. It's what showed how the unit uses heat and led to the glass flowers idea. At the time I was taking a fair bit of care to use consistent loads, I probably put the amount in at least some of those posts? As a guess I'd say about 3/8 gram? Say .3 or .4?

That which isn't glass is herb. Or should that be the other way?

It, I think, is worth remembering that the load temperature is as hot as it's going to get just before you start to hit. As soon as you start to hit, the temperature drops off, the harder you hit the further and faster. It's easy to loose 100 degrees, really.......ending any hope of useful production.

Guys i`m after my first session with Ascent :> And i`m happy :) Taste is very good compare to my old Da Buddah Vaporizer. Everything is great except one thing. I use 2 screens on top and bottom of the chamber but even i use this 2 screens there was a time i find some stuff in my mouth :/ What should I must use to prevent such things ? What you use to stop move herbs to yours mouth ?

If you are getting herb in your mouth you can always use organic cotton on top. Also don't grind your material so fine. The vapor taste is really awesome, I've been setting my temp at 385 degrees and gradually work my way up to 400 or a little higher. Using 7 or 8 glass flowers and getting great clouds.

The Ascent does a great job of thoroughly extracting the goodies from your herb. My herb is too dark for edibles. Thats OK I don't use ABV from my Ascent because I don't want to accidentally ingest shards of tiny pieces of glass if they break off from the flowers due to the high heat.

I have the black stealth, it's been a great little unit since I received it around the middle of October. It took me a while to get the hang of it, I was ready to sell it until several FC members helped me out with some tutoring.

The learning curve can be mastered if you stick with it and you get a quality unit and it's not faulty. My session is usually about 12 min. Even though it has a fairly large bowl with the glass flowers you don't need much herb. Slow and steady with the draws, wait 30 seconds before taking another draw. The heat needs time to recover.

Try getting the gong to use as a mouthpiece. It has a sturdy feel to it.
The Ascent does a wonderful job of medicating along with a goooooooood vapor taste.:leaf:

Fuckcombustion!

I drag on it very slow and steady and use 2 flowers, stem down, on the top of the bud. I can get very good clouds at around 388F to 396. I do vape at all different temps though. I've owned my Stealth for about 5 months. I don't use it everyday but I am starting to use it more and more. I'm beginning to see how easy and convenient it really is. It still doesn't give me that very sedate high I like for sleeping. I've tried pure indicas and lots of hybrids. I've began to start upping the temps over 400F and it helps but still not like a joint. Who knows could be a little psychological thing. Also, this is my first unit and I haven't had any problems at all so far.
