All the cheap RDA have a chrome plated brass internal posts and honestly I do not really want plated chrome near my concentrate. Also, what if when i am placing a dab on my coil i nick/chip the plated chrome. I guess i am being a little paranoid but i don't know.

I am in the market for a cheap (fully stainless steel) RDA to pair with my MBK-TS and soon to be Nemesis (have one on order just waiting for my vape mail).

edit: when i say fully stainless i mean the inside of the atomizer.

edit #2: @funkyjunky and @DabComa you should post a guide on how to rebuild the bulb atomizer. I know @BLAZING OG tried it a while back but said he couldn't rebuild them. See post #306 in this thread. http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/various-e-cig-type-vaporizers.5179/page-13

the atomizers i use are all stainless steel internal posts. I was assured this by manufacturer. they are great.

Ive heard enough people complain about a metal taste that is unremovable with SS mesh wick so personally I've avoided it. Anyone else have or hear of this problem?

I dont notice it, infact I taste the cotton/fibrous flavor of the silica. However when vaping correctly (still sure im not doing it right or something) silica does give you more of an intense flavor. but the ss mesh i use tastes just like a TI nail to me.

Here is an update to my favorite build yet. I am using my orieco storm atomizer.

I am finally undertaking the concept of a funnel. This is a poor model, but i can assure you it has been the most effective for me. My next build will improve on it by using a smaller gauge wick in order to leave more room on the sides of the deep channels. this will allow the wax to melt straight down there ready to be wicked back up after all the hash covering the coils vape away. the SS mesh then starts to glow and vapes anything in the bottom. Took it out to the city to a DNB party with me and got some real pats on the back. i feel very proud.

I dub it, the Side Show Bob. Without further adieu:

Note the dual coils on the same wick. -----------------------^

I had two of these same types of coils running, it heated this baby up WAY too much, was going to ruin my insulator in the center there. Maybe if i try a single wrapping instead of this non twisted dual wire stuff

pardon my ignorance, but where is the funnel? i have also thought a funnel directing the oil onto the coil would be ideal, but never found a proper funnel.

Haha I scrap the bottom once a day, usually right before bed

I will take a side pic to show you my coil height from the deck (I think this setup is .6, but I have so many coils I cant even keep track anymore)

You can see he made the SS mesh into sort of a funnel by loosening the top of the SS mesh roll after it's in the coil... Not a bad theory, if I'm right, how does it perform?

really well. i cut the tops into strips and peeled it like a banana. if i could do it again id torch it before placing it in the atty, to make sure any lose SS strands could be burned off, just in case. obviously would make the opening bigger too but i have limited space wtih the size of wick/atty-chamber currently. the idea was for a bunch of porous "fingers" to warm up and grab any melting hash and direct it to the vertical coil.

great idea! im still stuck on the ceramic wick idea. for some reason i was expecting a funnel before the coil. so that you could just drop oil in w/out placing it directly on the coil.

i really need to start buying some supplies and start building already... sheesh

Wax/oil can't be wicked... Meaning you can't use any form of wick to move it from point a of storage to point b of burning without some form of outside influence, this could be diluting it in pg, but not very effective.
Thank you! Coming from Nic vape this is a critical diff. All the wick stuff here is just a drip buffer, not a delivery system. So now I understand. Gracias!

Wow! This thread has really taken off in the past couple months.

I've been satisfied with the first coil (exact same coil) I wound back in December. I used ribbon Kanthal, and it was very durable. I came back to catch up and decided to wind a new one.

First things first, I would like to confirm that you do not need a high powered mod with sub-ohm coils to put together a "one hitter quitter". I bought an 1100mAh ego-c twist last fall because I couldn't bring myself to buy a cloud. I also really got into vaping ejuice. This thing has been carried in my pocket daily, and is vaped as much as work, family, etc. allows. It has also taken some severe beating. I commonly take a few dabs a day while on the go also. I am more of a flower person at night. Under this use I recharge nightly.

I am not sure what cells these have, but I believe it may be an IMR battery, which would allow for fairly high draw. After months of use I have seen no signs of damage or automatic shut down.

Anyway, here's the new coil. I know it's hot enough; I've already had 2 dabs off of it.

I started with silica wick and it worked fine, so I used it again. I'm thinking maybe a ceramic trough shaped wick would be cool.

Heat transfer lesson: The amount of heat transferred out of the wire is dependant on the temperature of the surface of the wire and the surface area. Mass has nothing to do with it. Mass however affects the warm up time. I think ribbon wire is as good as it gets. There's a high ratio of surface area to mass, so it can effectively heat up the wick and concentrate without taking forever to get up to temp.

My kanthal ribbon is 0.020" wide. I doubled up the wick and after wrapping, I smashed the whole thing. This should make the wick more effective, for the same reason flat wire is effective. This is 1.8ohms.

On 3.2v it takes about 4 seconds to glow, and on 4.8 its glowing in 1.5. I like having a higher resistance coil with a VV ego because I then have the choice between a one hitter and a normal vape pen.

And I really can get away with taking it anywhere.

I do have an itaste vv on it's way though. Same size, VW, and it has a pass through. I wouldn't mind a VV 14500 mod one of these days.

Dammit! I conquered my GAS, VAS and now I am full on Kevin's mom with RBA's . Thanks to all you contributors. Just sent @smatchimo55 some funds for a couple Orienco tops. After watching others' experiences, I decided to use the ceramic wick from KP. Gonna wrap it with some 32g kanthal.
@growinsmoke that is a slick little lowbuck machine you have there. Is that an octopus cover?

@2clicker it is time to get to steppin' with your build, if you want to try the ceramic wick just pm me. I am getting 3 1/8 inch tubes. I plan on breaking one, using one, and then I will have an extra to share.

I would rather build my own machines then send cash to R&D someone else's ideas.

Thanks! I can fit this in my front pocket, in most of my jeans, but just barely. Sometimes it sticks out a little. It does w
well, but I would exchange some of the length for just a little more girth. I wish 14500 or 14650 mods were more popular. It would beat out the ego and could be shorter.

The smoked clear tank? That's what I'm using for ejuice. If you thought that was a disguise, I can see how that would be missleading. I keep the rda, dabber and jar in a little pouch. Still very discrete. With the high popularity of cloud and cloud clones, I feel like a larger ego is even more discrete.

The seego vhit-A is a very concealable concentrate atomizer as it totally looks like the popular evod tank.

@Shiggity I just had one of those and passed it along to another fc'er. I was not feeling the love on the build/coil factor.....It is about the stealthiest little bastard. I tried to screw the "cap" onto my ego with no success.

@growinsmoke sorry I should have asked more clearly. The RBA you are using, whose brand is it? I thought octopus , or maybe its an Igo L that I have not seen. Thanks!!!

@2clicker word.

One more thing, @growinsmoke, the Ultra or Ultramax are 510 thread and would look pretty sharp with that rba of yours. Ultra is 14500 powered. All mechanical switch action, no sag!!!

sorry to derail.....

@mephisto, yeah I dont have one of them but figure it is the same as most coil heads for wax that are commercial. Still as a stealth device I wouldnt want to put out the clouds like I will when I get the Orieco Storm I just ordered off of ebay from @smatchimo55. I am stoked to get that sucker running with my thermos BHO absolute!

I grabbed a storm and the other rba he had as well. Need to compare notes once all this research starts.

ok im doing some shopping online and i just cant decide on which RDA/s to get. i want to try a slim single coil RDA and a more standard (22mm?) sized RDA for dual coils. trident, igo w, immortilizer, storm, everything looks good i just cant pull the trigger.

Unless your going to go into the ridiculous world of quad coils I'd suggest the Igo-w , very easy to work with, can be made dual if that tickles your fancy, and is very versatile, my absolute only complaint is the Crap o rings provided with it, but those are cheaply and easily replaced.

The only modification I did to mine was 2 1/8 th holes, which works perfectly with my concentrates.

I guess my suggestion would be kinda biased considering I only own and use the Igo-w out of all you listed, but it has yet to disappoint me and I use regular old nichrome and silica. The best part about it is when you make the coil your happy with ( which I'm sure isn't unique to the igo) you can easily and gently clean the coil with like a toothbrush, abd rewick it, and it's brand new again... I guess until the wire finally fully degrades, but in my case with dual braided 28g, that may take a long time to happen.

cant go wrong with an Igo-w or nimbus clone. both needed air control modding but for the price ya cant beat it! one i havent tried id be willing to recommend would be the omega style rda from fast tech. ive seen a couple of those on youtube perform as well as the best. definitely get my vote for first time drippers.

either way; when it comes down to it, you will have your own personal preferences as far as types of floating pins, adjustable air controls, and x amount of center posts. other than that and the looks department there isnt much to distinguish them all

I never got this to work, i always ended up taking the metal funnel out.

I like the ego pen at 1.8 with the nice atomizer, that is PERFECT! and exactly what I would have bought for one of those VV batteries. well done. good idea with the ribbon, am i correct in assuming you can use more of it with less amp draw? like a 30 or 32 gauge kanthal equivelent?
