Vapor Brownies (ABV Cannaoil)

hmmmmm....
you should have gotten royally fucked up.
did you, while simmering, raise the heat level incrementally to sustain the light sizzling and bubbling?
i've had glorious results with both the simmering method and the leeching method.
i'll probably continue to go the leeching route for a few reasons. first it doesn't smell. when i simmer it smells up the hallway of my
floor and i have some unsupporting neighbors with regards herbal jazz vaporizables and I do believe that the heavy smell is wasted THC dissipating in the air.

Know that it takes two hours for brownies to hit you full tilt and if you wait an hour and go to sleep, you sleep through the movie.

Kay, just made my latest batch of ABV brownies.

Took my ABV and weighed it out - it came to about 14g of a mix of mids and some killer dank bud. (Most of which came from my Zap) This was ground up in two parts and dumped into the brownie mix (1 box).
A small bag of chopped pecans was added, as well as half of a bag of peanut-butter/choco chips.

They are pretty tasty and it was tough to not eat more than just one! You cant even really taste the ABV in this mix. (The extra choco/PB helps hide that) I wish I was able to find the creme de menthe chips, but they didnt have them (Still tasty nonetheles)

They were baked in an 8"x8" pan and cut into 16 (2") pieces. I figure that makes each piece having <1g of ABV each. I ate one (and some crumbs) and vaped a couple of zap stems. Couple of hours later I am very comfortably comfortable. I think that one brownie is a nice comfy place and I may try eating more at a time sometime later. I have to be careful though when I give them away - I have a pretty high tolerance and this makes me feel comfy. To someone who casually smokes 1 might be a white knuckler!

EDIT- FFWD To later this evening...

I ate a couple of them earlier before I jumped in the shower. 1.5 hours later, and I had to remind myself I didnt vape this evening. Whoah, this is gonna be a fun ride :)
(Edit again) Yeah, shits starting to get a little melty on me. I think I might go and vape some more to just put me over the top before I crash for the eve. Wife came home to bitch at me so WTH, why not eh? Fuck, Hubble Telescope aint gonna have nothing on me - I plan to go to another planet tonight.

I made ABV-butter brownies last night. I had 36 grams of lightly-toasted ABV, used 2 sticks of unsalted butter and did the water method, simmering for 1 hour. I did strain it; I have a hard time digesting a lot of herb. It took about 5 hours for the butter to solidify in the fridge so that I could skim it off.

The butter came out a much darker green than when I make it with fresh bud, but smelled and tasted about the same. I immediately made a double batch of brownies with it. I used a lower temp baking them than I usually do, for fear of damaging the good stuff.

Here is the recipe if anyone wants it. I bake stuff from scratch all the time; (regular) brownies are the very first thing I learned to make as a kid.

----------------------------------------------------

BROWNIES (double batch)
2 sticks' worth magical mystery butter :peace:
1 + 1/3 cup sugar (you can use as much as 2 cups but I use less for more chocolate intensity)
1 egg (I like chewy brownies. For more cakey ones, use 2 eggs)
2 tsp vanilla
2/3 cup cocoa (I use good Penzeys cocoa, very rich, it makes Hersheys taste like brown grit.)

1 + 1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder

Preheat oven to 325F. Cream butter and sugar till smooth, mix in egg and vanilla, then mix in cocoa till smooth. Combine flour, salt and baking powder together, then mix into the chocolate batter. Spread in greased 9x13 pan, as smoothly as possible for uniform thickness. Bake 25mins, remove from oven and let cool COMPLETELY before cutting (if you don't want them in fragments all over the place.)

----------------------------------------------------

I tried to wait long enough to cool them properly but it was late at night and I had to get to bed, so I didn't end up with absolutely uniform brownies. I did cut them very small, about 1.5" x 2" or so. I put them in a tupperware in the freezer and went to bed.

Today I ate one brownie - one of the smallest ones. Delicious! Cold and chewy from the freezer, the intense chocolate harmonized rather nicely with the faint canna taste. Almost like mint chocolate, very nice.

45 minutes after eating it I was definitely feeling effects. :)

1 hour and 10 minutes after eating it I was STONED AND GIGGLING. :D

It's been three hours now since I ate it. I am floating gently somewhere in the... ionosphere, I guess. It's hard to tell. I am SO stoned and happy. Definite body-stone, yes; I also notice pain relief, and enhanced flavors in food. Vaping a little on top has rounded things out for a rather spectacular Sunday afternoon in Rosieland.

I am just agog, a-fucking-gog at how great it is to vape, so awesome that even the leftovers are a gift that keeps on giving!! Next time the duff jar fills up I'm going to try some Golden Dragon.

EDIT to add: instead of Golden Dragon, I made a second batch of butter, but was dismayed to find it wasn't nearly as potent as my first attempt. I thought I had done everything exactly the same - but I just realized that I didn't, not exactly.

My first batch, before I put the ABV in with the butter and water, I crushed it up in a big bowl, using the bottom of a round-bottomed glass - mortar and pestle style.

My second batch, I put the ABV in a food processor and whirred it up a bit in there before putting it in with the butter and water.

I really think crushing the duff gave me more potent results.

Maybe I could have gotten good results with a food processor also, but not the way I used it - I only pulsed it a few times. I was afraid of overdoing it. Whereas, while doing it by hand I spent a few minutes grinding away.

great recipe and thanks - vaping is the gift that seems to keep on giving.
for myself i think i've landed on the way that i prefer to do it as i've described in posts above.
where i live there's a 24 hour grocery store one building over; like a 15 second walk.
on saturday night around 2am myself and two friends were fully wasted from the brownies that i had made about five weeks ago, kept
in the freezer, still just a little bit left...
plus vaping..
then the three of us recognized that we were all craving snickers ice cream bars but we were all incapable of negotiating the sojourn to the grocery store.
we tried calling them to see if they would close the store for five minutes and deliver nine snickers bars but no one answered.
we would have given a nice tip; it could have been win win.

In the process of making some ABV brownies right now. About 4 more minutes left in the oven and they should be done...

I used 14 grams of ABV all from the iolite and all very high grade herb. I also added 3 grams of low end fire that wasn't cured properly and 1 gram of actual fire. The recipe called for 1/3 cup of oil and 1/3 cup of water. I used 2/3 cup of oil but once we strained it, it only came out to about 1/3 cup of oil so that may pose as an issue. I also used Canola oil.

I'll report back in about 2 hours. :p

@greystrOke How many pieces did you get out of your brownie recipe? Your numbers (ABV/unvaped) are pretty close to what I used last time. I ended up with brownies with about 0.75g per piece, which is working pretty nicely for me.

Tom,

I got 9 pieces out of an 8x8 pan. I just ate 1 & 1/2 pieces about 30 minutes ago. I'm really not expecting much because my abv was really brown compared to vtacs photos. Even though I strictly only used the iolite which is fixed temp, the abv was still pretty brown. With the ABV plus the unvaped herb, there should have been around 18 grams. So that should equate to <2 grams per brownie.

Its been a little longer than 30 minutes now :brow: How ya feeling?
I know it takes a lil more than 30 mins when I am eating brownies. Any improvement?

OK it worked amazingly! I haven't experienced such effects from brownies in the longest time. At exactly 1:45 into it, I began to feel my eyes becoming very heavy. Then at exactly around 2 hours it kicked my ass. I ate 2 pieces total and haven't vaped but did take a hit off a bowl. I can't believe how good this worked. I just ate so much Burger King that it's disgusting :p. My friend ate 1 & 1/2 pieces at the same time and is completely floored. Another friend came over and just ate 1 & 1/2 pieces so he's about to get worked. I was honesty not feeling very optimistic about this whole ordeal but it truly exceeded my expectations. I feel like the whole room is moving right now and it's really hard to type. This really does take recycling to a whole new level. For the record, I started drinking as soon as I began making the brownies and have had around 9-10 shots of vodka and the brownies have completely overpowered the liquor. :ko:

Right on. It looks like your recipe and dosage is right where you want it to be.

[edit: I had an odd reaction to ABV brownies 2 days ago. I ate 1 brownie containing about 0.75g ABV/uvaped (about 90% ABV I would guess). Consumed at 11 pm CST, and the trip note taking lasted about 30 minutes. No effects felt until 60 minutes after consumption. I had drunk 3 microbrews prior to eating the brownie.

At 60 minutes I felt overwhelmingly tired without being high (no cerebral effects at all), and just ended up staring at the TV while lying on the couch. Managed to drag myself to bed, and eventually woke up at 180 minutes, high as the proverbial kite (opened up 3 separate juice cartons). I've never had the tiredness/sedation happen before the cerebral head high when using edibles before]

I've been reading this thread for a while, and have tried many combinations. I've found that one of the bigger things i've changed is letting the oil really cool, and sometimes i'll re-heat it up and go through the process one more time. Anyone think that is overkill? A high is so subjective, so its hard for me to tell, but i THINK it made a big difference

OK.
First a disclaimer, I have never cooked this way or tried to make oil or butter.
But after reading this thread I had an idea or two.

Simmering and infusing the oil looks like the easy part.
Straining and compressing the oil looks difficult and messy.

So why not get one of these-
http://www.aerobie.com/Products/aeropress_story.htm

I use one to make coffee sometimes.
You could put in a filter, pour in the oil, and press the oil/plant matter mixture, and when the oil is extracted, walk to the trash can, remove the bottom of the press, give one more light press and the detritus will fall into the can, lightly wash the press and you are done...

While I was looking into how well a coffee filter will pass oil, I came upon this alternate method, originally for reusing fry oil, that should work and would be very inexpensive to set up. Not as easy as the aerobie press, but cheap..

Bon appetit!

Well, I had 2 brownies left from last week and I have nothing to do today. Just ate them about 20 minutes ago. This ought to be a fun day.

*ETA*

2 hours on the dot and I finally begin to feel them. I was standing up, cleaning out the iolites bowl and was like "oh shit". Had to go sit down. :p

This forum has been a godsend.

I recently made a batch of vtac's oil brownies exactly according to vtac's instructions and I think the aeropress would work well.. thanks.

I was going to serve them to some friends but they turned out so strong that I could not serve them to the inexperienced. I think because a lot of CBD's are still in the vaped herb, they are a lot more hash like in their effects... very nice.

AGBeer,
hi that aero press thing looks ok i guess, i use a $20 stainless steel potato ricer to squeeze the goodness out of the hot sodden mash. Its like a giant garlic press. Once ive squeezed the oil out it goes thru a 45 micron screen to catch the few bits that get thru. Peace

Hey.
I was just reading the Golden Dragon/Swamp Water thread and saw that Indigal had already suggested the aerobie press. So it wasn't as original an idea as I thought...
I believe in footnote and must give credit to the first poster, so there you go.

Attack of the vapors,
I have like 10g of PD ABV
Should I try to make a small batch of brownies?
It's pretty brown, but I'm sure there is still chemical in the ABV to intoxicate me and my friends :brow:

one half a cup of ABV is about the right amount for a full brownie mix. you'd have to work it out proportionately in terms of a smaller batch of brownies - how much or how little brownie mix to use - and maybe throw in a fresh bud or two if you want to get blasted with your friends. if you're making a smaller batch you'll have to work the whole thing out proportionately in terms of the right amount of oil, as well. I would imagine you would also need an appropriately sized glass or aluminum baking pan. As an aside when I'm anticipating future brownies I tend to use my whip vapes instead because they go through larger volumes of material faster than the PD. Good luck...

jeffp,
I'm starting my batch of brownies, I hope it goes well.
I will report back once the brownies have taken effect. ;)
I'm using the Vtac recipe, IMO it was the clearer recipe
As someone else said, this forum is godsend :D

The day after eating the brownies: They worked great, i was the least high, but it was still fun.
All my friends went back home, it was too much for them
I will do more brownies for sure later on

yeah ABV brownies are awesome.
Vtac's recipe for me was the starting point and foundation - I've branched out to the extent of experimenting on two fronts -
one - not straining the oil from the material and just dumping the whole thing into the brownie mix - very happy with that approach. don't see the need in straining at all.
two - not heating up the material in the canola oil, but rather letting it sit in a closed bottle away from heat and light for about 10 days - the finely ground material and oil. i really believe you get a stronger high this way,

and it's a cleaner purer high as well. there's no smell that you would get when you simmer the oil and i believe that that smell is wasted THC.

brownies keep nicely in the freezer for future use - almost as fresh as new after you let it sit for an hour or so.

supposedly it's a good idea to keep the brownies in the freezer before eating - that the freezing allows the crystals to expand.... don't know if this is true or if it makes any sense...

jeffp,
Thanks for sharing your research jeffp!
I will surely try the second method you descrive. :brow:
Count on me to give you feedback on the second method, but my next batch will be by the end of the month.

not my idea originally - i piggybacked off one school of thought regarding the making of "firecrackers" - bud, peanut butter and crackers - long story...
anyway some say that it's better not to bake the firecrackers but rather to let it sit in a week - same concept.
my reasoning is that i wait a while for ABV to build up for a batch of brownies worth, i can wait another ten days especially if i have AMB (already made brownies) in the freezer.
anyway looking forward to your review regarding this slight modification.
