Cosmos and the Republican Religious Right

I wonder how long it's going to take before the right winged Republican fundamentalist Christians will come out of the woodwork to denounce the tv program Cosmos as heresy, especially being that the prologue was done by Obama.

I hate to say this, especially since I'm a big fan of Tyson, but I wasn't terrifically impressed by the first episode. IMHO, it was a bit simplistic and all over the place. I also would have liked to have seen more SCIENCE and less religion. Everybody already knows that the Church treated science and scientists disgracefully. Harping on it for such a major portion of the program seemed unnecessary and took time away from SCIENCE.

Man it is hard for me not to post in these political forums. I like it here and don't want to get booted. I will just say it isn't right to make someone pay for PBS when I don't believe in what they spew. I wouldn't expect you to pay for FOX to put on programming so why do I have to pay for Big Bird. As far as Cosmos.....don't even know what it is......lol.....inhale ......relax......lol

I didn't care for it either and loved the original cosmos, This one needs to step it up a bit to keep me watching for sure. They seemed to want to distance themselves Far from any Roman Catholic viewers with the stupid cartoons. Faith and Science aren't mutually exclusive or anything in these days but it's hard to get people Devoted only to a Godless science to admit it.

Dude.

PBS is the only commercial free, educational national network out there. You may not have children, but just taking a cursory glance at what passes for "childrens programming" on network television (peppered with subversive ads every 12 minutes mind you) should clue you into the good that this public service provides. In a lot of the country, this is the only thing offered other than major network TV unless you can afford expensive private services. That puts a lot of low income and/or rural children at a major disadvantage.

You dislike big bird? I dont like our children (aka our country's future) sliding down the road to an Idiocracy-esque future while Chinese toddlers are doing algebra.

I believe thats worth the 0.014% of the national budget thats allotted to them.

Of course I suppose we could defund PBS and allow them to go commercial to stay afloat. I mean, look at the track record of The Learning Channel (which was privatized in 1980). They now feature educationally packed shows like "Toddlers & Tiaras" and "Here Comes Honey Booboo".

Promising.

Dumb it down to the masses, eh? Sad..............They need to change the title of the channel from The Learning Channel to the Exploitation Channel.

The money raised from Sesame st. dolls and crap can more than pay for their broadcasting. As a matter of fact its a money making machine. Soooooooooo Why do I have to support it. That was Mitts point not KILL BIG BIRD! PBS is a channel that pushes one side of the political spectrum and that's not right to make some one pay for something that does not represent their beliefs. Would it be right for the government to pay for the Glenn Beck Show? I have two teens so you don't have to explain the crap that's out there.

How can you compare PBS to FOX. Both FOX and MSNBC have blatant unrelenting political agenda's from different sides of the spectrum. Do you honestly put PBS in the same category? PBS isn't even in the same league than either of those two in regards to what they.....................spew.

When tax payers can opt out of paying to support the murder machine that is US foreign policy you can opt out of that evil, horrible TV channel. Mmmmmmmkay? Thanks.

I knew better than to get into this thread.....carry on.

So let me get this straight. You come into this thread to state an opposing opinion, and then, when your opinion gets challenged, you leave? Why not stay and engage? We can all learn things from debates such as these.........including yourself, unless of course, you are so entrenched in your beliefs, that you feel that there is nothing new to learn and that you feel that the ONLY thing that is important is to express only your viewpoint.

I brought my He-Man figures and Lego blocks all the way over here for nothing?

Edit: I'm also wondering what political agendas Sesame Street is pushing? Is it the spelling? The musical numbers teaching addition and subtraction? The tips for toddlers on how to control angry or jealous feelings? Wait, I know... its the recycling stuff, isnt it?

PBS has a liberal agenda so yes the fox watching person is correct. And I can prove it for them. If PBS is only about teaching kids the agenda of education, and how to think, and all around common sense, then guess what that means? It means that they are training the children to grow up and be liberal democrats because only liberals or democrats have intelligence and common sense, that is why they are correct in every way that the republicans are wrong. Because they picked up on that common sense and intelligence thing that PBS teaches with, so the children are already used to using intelligence to make decisions because they got it from PBS. Now if a republican used to watch PBS when they were growing up and they still some how turned out to be a republican then all that means is that they did not watch enough PBS to become intelligent enough to know better and that is why they made the mistake after watching PBS to be a republican. Or it means that they are just not intelligent enough on their own and this PBS watching has brought them up from completely dumb to only kind of dumb but still stupid enough to be a republican. And this is proven as Mitt tried to cancel big bird. No insult is intended. But I thought that an explanation would help. So I am agreeing with and being nice to the republicans in this forum by saying all this because this proves that the republicans are correct when they say that PBS is pushing some agenda that may not be the same as the republican agenda. And that agenda is to teach education enough to where people grow up and therefore automatically from being so much intelligent grow up to become democrats. So republicans your welcome.
