I've tried several indica dominate strains from Seattle area dispenceries, but have not found one that works for my insomnia. To the contrary, while fully relaxing, my mind races for 2-3 hrs, keeping me awake. It might be that I'm not vaping at a high enough temp, or that I just haven't found the right strain.

Yes do try higher temps.

When speaking with budtenders they usually tell you how the effect is when smoking (especially from a bong) so vaping vs smoking two different worlds, ask them if they have vaped the strain you are looking at.

I have had the same issue as you with mind racing keeping me awake, I believe you are ingesting too much thc at once, I suggest start vaping as early as possible, meaning that indicas will be more effective near bedtime if you have been vaping at least earlier in the evening if not all day, I find sativas and hybrids earlier in day, indicas at end of day, ymmv.

Sometimes if I have had a busy day and have not vaped and then depend on an indicia to knock me down to sleep it will have the opposite effect and keep me up, especially if I brought home some fresh buds, this new strain bursting with trichomes is going to get you racy and your system is not used to it.

For insomnia the only thing that works for me consistently is exercise, so I try to vape before exercise and after, eat a little and then an OG sesh before bed.

I don't cape at all during the day, but just before bed. I'll try a couple of hours before bedtime to see how that works. Thanks for the suggestions.

Variety is the key, but I like sativa dominant hybrids for my condition. Enough indica traits to have better flavor and a reasonable finishing time w/o taking up so much room - yet a more active high. I can't stand couchlock. I also like funk over sweet. Super funky w/ just a hint/aftertaste of sweet is my fave: og's, headband, chemdawg, cheeses/skunks, nysd, etc.

What do you think of a strain crossed with SOUR DIESEL & BLUEBERRY?

I was thinking of trying this one?

I have that in wax and it is great and SD is the shit. It is one of my favs along with critical jack, and acapulco gold, I like ICE as well. I got pineapple express yesterday and am liking that a lot. I have currently I think over twenty strains so I am not sure I even have a clear view anymore. I switch strains all day long but use most sativa's or sativa dom. I am looking for a really heavy pain relieving indica or whatever and have not found one yet. I don't like indica's so I ask first as I don't play with them like I do the sativa's. I have white widow two kinds cause seeds were from diff places and northern lights. Both these are suppose to be great for pain and they do nothing for me.

I just picked up some sour diesel from a caregiver, She recommended it for anxiety specifically, and it seems to be working wonders for my stress and anxiety, very calming.

SD is also a component of my current fave strain, 3 Kings- it's a combo of Headband (which itself contains SD in its background), Sour Diesel and OG Kush. Absolutely awesome for nerve pain.

interestingly the sour diesel is not the most fun stuff i've had in a while, but is the most helpful with the anxiety. It's good for the daytime, but I'd like to have a heavy indica in my medicine chest for night time, have to work on that.

I also like a strong indica before bed.

GRAND DADDY PURPLE I am liking a lot lately.
Hybrids during the day.
I like sativa however it freaks me out!

I wonder how they decide what to label a specific bud in the dispensaries. Probably some of the "variation" people complain about is just personal biochemistry, but I wonder how much stems from growers/dispensaries randomly tagging purchased material, trying to place it based on Leafly data and previous reviews. If they have a strain they don't have a detailed history on, and it's a sedative type, they might decide to label it as one of the known sleepy Indicas in the Leafly database, when in fact it could be something else. I hope that's not all that frequent. With all the info we're starting to acquire, that's impressively accurate, it would really screw things up. The fact that I can search in Leafly and actually get the expected effects by buying specific strains just blows me away. Way to go, cannabis Community! As pharmacologists we didn't have anything like that level of knowledge 30 years ago. It's tragic that most doctors and researchers are still just as clueless now.

Granddaddy Purple strikes me as an Indica with focus, very thick, friendly and mellow but a little too up for sleep. It helps with my sciatica pain. Master Kush is similar but more focused - a nervous person can even find it helpful in the daytime.

I've found Purple Kush very sedative, I don't know if it's THE knockout, but it's a pretty convincing last curtain call.

On the more Sativa side I'm surprised that Red Congolese (my current favorite daytime med), which is energetic and focused, and in spite of around 20% THC is not confused or scattered (especially if vaped, & without overheating), also helps some with my sciatica/lumbar pain.

Headband and Sour Diesel I have less experience with. They're fairly energizing, especially Sour Diesel, but so far they seem more scatter-brained. Blue Dream too, and more of a high. A lot of THC without some compensation from the other compounds easily goes that way, with confusion, flashing, and then anxiety and paranoia can set in.

A Trainwreck oil I tried was even more zoingy. It was so THC-scattered I kept forgetting what? So dysfunctional it was unpleasant, and I was desperate. I managed to find some Harlequin in the stash, that's a very CBD-heavy one, and as I was hoping, it straightened that trip right out. Harlequin is only around 8% THC, but has around 6% CBD, and it apparently does wonders for a lot of maladies. It also worked as a sort of THC leveler. Good to have.

The Leafly.com database is worth getting into! In the absence of a "Confusing" metric, it strikes me that strains that have a protruding "Euphoric" bar in the Leafly graphs tend towards that THC flashing confusion, sort of epileptic type thinking or laughter, and can easily turn paranoid. Really hate that confusion, it's why I quit cannabis decades ago. So aside from Red Congolese, that I find nearly perfect when vaped, and only makes me anxious if I overdo it - especially by smoking, I'm now hunting in more Indica-laden hybrids. Where a mostly Sativa like Red Congolese is like driving a sports car, and helps pain by rewiring da head (at CB1 receptors), a mostly Indica seems like an 18 wheeler. It hugs the road, nice and massive, and works on pain throughout the body, CB2 receptors in the spine, etc.

It's a rare Indica that's also focused, awake, sensual and cerebral, but that's how I found Master Kush. I dabbed some that was pretty harsh-tasting (and with a killer cough), but the effect was like wow, this thing DRIVES great - it doesn't drive ME. Same thing with a Master Kush O-Pen-vape prefilled cart I tried. Hideous taste, but YEAH!

Given the different boiling points of different elements, it makes sense that vaping at lower temp is a different thing from high temp vaping, let alone smoking. Vaping seems Lighter, more energetic, better for daytime. High temp vaping and maybe smoking might be best for evening/night, and probably gives stronger pain control all around. Make sense?

I've got a line on some lemon kush, leafly recommends it for my stress / anxiety symptoms as well as pain / arthritis specifically. I have a little carpal tunnel pain, i think i might pick that up and see if it helps with both.

I got replacements on my (horrible tasting) O-Pen-Vape cartomizers. These new carts taste fine, nice even, so there's nothing intrinsically bad about the O-Pen-Vape cartomizers.

The interesting one is OG Kush, supposedly a hybrid with Indica dominant. Best pain control of any strains I've tried so far. I have nasty sciatica, and vaping this OG Kush cart feels almost like a lidocaine-cortisone epidural. The pain just moves way back. Wow!

The only downside is that it's, well, a bit sedative and zonked. So if the objective is to have no pain and be able to work, that can be a bit tricky. Still, it's awfully nice to feel that pain recede.

The other cart is Ogre. I haven't figured that one out yet, but it seems in the same family, Indica dominant with a boingy Sativa note.

SHATTER can be so powerful!

I might just start dabbing it?

SATIVAS are kind of cool really.
I have INDICAS for night and HYBRIDS during the day SATIVA dominate.
When a strain gives me a headache I stay away.

zLUxg6F.jpg

This HYBRID has a lot more filling in to do. (less than 1/2 way)
JACK HERER (SATIVA) + DUTCH TREAT (HYBRID)
It's unstable and tricky to legally grow this one.
I hope it works out otherwise it's back to square one!
Some of the tiny colas.

I find headaches maybe more due to poor curing maybe. I've also found lack of any headache at all while on the vapour

@ataxian DUDE! I'm speechless. What a lovely little herb garden!

One thing about buying grams prn is that it's like tasting wines: lots of variety, no big commitment. Once your little ones grow, it's a bit of "love the one you're with" - I guess, but I've never been so blessed. Sigh.

@akaye47 that Super Silver Haze has big bars for Happy and Euphoric. I've often wondered, how do people differentiate Happy and Euphoric? Is Euphoric like happy but without any basis, like if you like the weed and have a good meal you're Happy, and if you burn yourself on the bong and fall down the stairs and you're still good, that's Euphoric?

BTW, do you vape or smoke it, and it's not an anxiety/paranoid smoke? What I found is that even my fave Red Congolese can get anxious if I smoke much. I never get that vaping at low-med temps.
