isnt that what the 'fuck you' thread is for?

This might be a good time to point out a new modnote placed in the OP of the Fuck You! thread.
Modnote: After 7 months it's clear that most members understand the true nature of this thread and how it can coexist with the forum rules. Still, it needs to be said that this is not a place to insult members, and it's not a loophole to get around the rules.

If you have an question or concern regarding the forum rules and want to voice it publicly you're welcome to make a thread in the Community Discussion section.

Thank Fuck You. :)

Since the post in question was an open complaint about forum rules, it could have been deemed an infraction. Instead the post was brought here for public discussion among members.

I hope that clarifies matters some.

:peace:

It's all good, FC is just a giant Sociological experiment, I know I'm fascinated by it to be honest!

I think you get the red ink in your post that violated the rules. But I just violeted the rules talking about them, a lawyer could have a field day with those rules. The jist is the golden rule, basically, and dont bother with whats going on behind the curtain. I could be wrong, but back when I was a noob I ruffled some feathers, but I didn't read the rules and thought I knew it all. To top it off it was Vito I was arguing with, ha what a noob! However I talked with Vito, lwien, and Max and they showed me the errors of my ways. Smooth sailing since, one day though, one day I will have my revenge!!! :goon:;)

Since this is open for discussion; I have been on forums without rules like this or the great modding that we get here and it is like the wild wild west with negativity everywhere. Basically the exact opposite of this forum, and not very pleasant.

At the same time sometimes I feel like I cant fully express myself/have a debate (we are all adults after all). More leniency I think would be a good thing but IDK exactly how a balance could be spelled out in the rules or even implemented since it really is a judgment call for what crosses the line. Just my 2 cents for what its worth.

Either way I respect what the mods do, not an easy task

You guys threw flying low under the bus in a big way. This should have been handled better. Mods are pretty loose around here when it suits them. Flying low should hace been contacted beforehand to inquire if it was ok.

This should have been posted as a question by the mods or admins, not moving a random post from a fuck you thread into a thread starter that will surely cause drama. And it did.

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
Well I have to say the first post in this thread reads as somewhat out of context to me. Let me say it was more of a flippant comment than an idea for a thread and that is why it was posted in the "Fuck You" thread (also thus explaining the "Fuck You" attitude).

Look I think it is good to be nice. Don't get me wrong. I just find it extremely condesending to be told to be nice by a mod (since we are discussing it, yes Stu, I mean you). In written communication it is so easy for someone to read a tone that is not really there.

I like this forum but I am not part of your society. If we really were forming an alternate society I would either not join it or kill those who annoyed me and take it over. I accept that I am not the owner of this forum and as such need to conform to its rules.

I wish to cry foul at this point.

I feel @Mr. Gweilo 420 has been hung out to dry here. He had an issue in another thread, and felt he could vent in the 'fuck you' thread.

isnt that what the 'fuck you' thread is for?

So while i dont agree with the sentiment. starting a thread where he is perceived to be the instigator of the thread is a whole lot different to him venting in a thread for venting.

if the issue is to be fleshed out in a thread of its own, then how come staff didnt adhere to a full disclosure of the facts?

sure he wrote it, but he sure as shit didnt start a thread about it.

as a result this poor member has been attacked as if he has expected everyone to pile on and say 'yeah right on! fuck being nice'

Im sorry but I feel this member has been set up here to be attacked, if not admonished for the sentiments he expresses.

why couldnt have the responses to those sentiments been left in that same thread?

how is it that it was neccessary to have the rest of us believe he started the thread, when he didnt?

Not fucking cool, and thats a violation of the 'be nice' rules right fucking there.

Glad I read that. I was getting ready to pile on. :D

I clicked the button and created this thread out of the OP. In retrospect I didn't do a very good job, so please allow me to explain the reasoning.

In general, when our staff sees a member break a forum rule, the member is given a "free pass" 0-point-warning along with an explanation of the rule and they are asked to be careful in the future. Depending on the situation this may happen multiple times before an actual warning point is given. This courtesy is extended because we know that things aren't always black and white and people can make honest mistakes.

At this point the member has been asked to review the forum rules at least once and they are expected to be familiar with them. If they are found breaking the rules again a warning point will be given, along with an explanation and link to the rules. If they do it again they'll have 2 points which equals a 3 day ban.

Sometimes when that ban expires they make a post publicly criticizing (directly or indirectly) the decision relating to their ban and that's what happened in this case. Doing so is breaking another rule: Public discussions of staff decisions are not permitted on the site. If you have any concerns or queries relating to a staff decision please take it up in private with a staff member.

In this case it was done in a thread where the member apparently (incorrectly) assumed that the rules didn't apply. The modnote in the OP of that thread says the following. Modnote: After 7 months it's clear that most members understand the true nature of this thread and how it can coexist with the forum rules. Still, it needs to be said that this is not a place to insult members, and it's not a loophole to get around the rules.

I assumed that the member genuinely opposed the "Be Nice" rule so I made an attempt to give the member a break and open a discussion (this thread) on the topic they were compelled to post about. The "Be Nice" rule is a very important rule in my opinion, so if there are compelling arguments against it I'm interested in hearing them. This was done in haste, and I apologize for the confusion that resulted from my lackluster work. The intentions were good, but the effort could have been better. This thread will likely have an early date with ABV. :D

People need to be nice. It's what cannabis is all about.:leaf: If you want to be nasty, go get drunk -n- somewhere else. :peace:

One solid vote to leave this rule in place and active. Let the other forums bring on the SUCK! I choose to be here and contribute/help whenever possible, mainly because of the general attitude of FC. It's a good place!

The Be Nice rule should stay as is.

Also, having owners of sites (or businesses) along with their mods (or managers) being secure and open enough to admit their errors to their members is UNIQUE in ANY world especially on the internet and THAT should NOT change as well.

Thanks vtac for the input. Much appreciated.............

I think the be nice rule is a good catch-all - rules can only be so specific, and not being nice is what kills communities. For whatever reason, being an asshole is a lot more socially acceptable on discussion boards than in real life, and it's a quick way for an established, thriving community to become cliquey and insular.

I really enjoy the rules and strict moderation on FC. I can't stand the signal:noise ratio on most other forums, especially cannabis related ones.
