Gear 316TWholesale.com Stainless Steel screens/filters

Hi folks, I wanted to share something I just stumbled upon about a month ago. My buddy threw me some screens that some guy gave him. I got 1 25micron and one 50 micron 4"x4" screen.
After some testing, I settled on the 25 micron for extra purity, and to me, it shows. The clarity is as clear as I've ever seen, and the flavor is really(!) clean. Here is his website;

he also sells a bunch of stuff on ebay:

So I ended up speaking with the owner today, and was a very good conversation. He seems like good folk, straight shooter, I didn't feel like I was being sales pitched or nothing. It seemed as though he has a good wealth of knowledge pertaining to our subject content, and I think I convinced him to come on FC and converse with us about it.
I'll let him cover most the details, but from what I understand, these are the benefits I see over coffee filters or other alternatives:
1.From what I've heard, coffee filters are between 10-20 microns. That is before pressure and solvent is applied. I'm no scientists, but I would assume pressure and solvent exposure would open up those holes and possibly loose some filter in your product. Supposedly, the SS screens are structurally sound, and have then same micron holes before and after.
2.Being able to narrow down variables in sometimes complex projects is priceless.
3.SS>Plastic/Paper. He told me the steel is from Germany, and the screens are produced here in the USA.

Anyway, I thought I needed to share this, as my results have been really promising so far. He is sending me some samples, and I'm going to get a couple to @2clicker to try out.
Now I know we all have different processes, but it seems to me if you need something filtered, SS is the way to go.
I always knew paper filters were less than ideal, I'm just happy I finally stumbled upon what I think is the right alternative, hope you all will enjoy them as well.
I will post some shatter pics to show the clarity that 25 micron gets. Also, he said 10 micron will be available in 3 weeks, which supposedly takes out another whole layer of fats that brings the final product to even another "next level" of purity.

10 micron? i wonder what the flow rate is like on a screen like that. or even on the 25 and 50 micron. love the clamps he has on the site. i ordered a couple of those. from what i can tell the product i great and the prices are nice as well.

cant wait to try these screens out.

I don't worry so much about the flow rate before use, just more so as the process goes on and it's filtering out stuff that could clog it. I'm not to worried though, after using the 25 and 50 micron, I didn't notice any ill affects or signs of a blow out. SS hose clamps are definitely a must though.

Pretty good deal on those starter kits, I might have to get one so I can try making my own instead of paying 45 a gram.

Good stuff man. Please do plenty of research and/or learn from someone hands on. Certain solvents can be very dangerous(!).
With that said, with proper knowledge and care, some very(!) high quality EO's are achievable in a DYI setting.

i would love to be able to use this for something larger in the future. we will see how long it takes for my state.

i was thinking that $45 a g was pretty cheap so it makes sense if its trim run. i just want some options. would be nice to be able to just swing by somewhere and pick some up oil.

Yeah I have done a bit of reading and need to do more, I would not just do it willy nilly.

depends on where you live. One collective by me has in house full nug run shatter and waxes for $45-50/g. Of course if you want brand name extracts you're looking at $60-80/g.

Of course im a fan of sugar leaf/trim shatters at another place because its 3g/$100 and they purge their shit properly.

i should have posted this already but I FUCKING LOVE THESE SCREENS!!!

they put coffee filters to shame... paper or gold tone.

my oil has never been so clean.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
What micron size did you go with?

my apologies. i should have stated. i do frozen QWET runs so the first filtration is 50 micron to quickly separate the herb and EC. the 50 is prolly plenty, but then the second is the 25 micron.

i did not need to winterize at all. after using these screens my oil was amber, but very translucent. best results ever for me.

now im thinking of doing dry ice extractions, followed by an ethanol soak and finally filtered with the 50 then 25 micron mesh.

these screens really "upped" my EO game. totally cleanable and reusable MANY times. and cheap... you cant lose here folks.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Yes!
Man I swear he told me he was going to come on the thread, though I understand why he wouldn't.
Either way, all you extraction artists need to stop using coffee filters, and try some of these, seriously won't regret it.
My process is moving away from the need for these, but with 10u instock, I have to back track and try em out.

Many thanks to @havealight101! I use the 50 micron cut to fit the bottom of my aeropress. After a 3 min. agitation w/ ethanol, my extract comes out very light and full of aroma. This would seem to be the best setup for non-bho extraction(for me) . The aeropress makes this process a breeze! If you have not tried one, they also make great coffee.

Is the aeropress some sort of french press?

I had to give the 10u's a try, and I'm very impressed, but am unsure how well it will work for alcohol. its very rigid and the drip rate would very low.

i should have a 10m screen shortly to try. will report back with results.

regarding the aeropress... i have been considering making my own version of one of these. basically just a large syringe that allows for the SS mesh to be mounted on it some how. the only part that i cant seem to figure out is how to assemble the plunger part of it. maybe the aeropress would just be easier. just dont like the plastic. would love to hear more @mephisto.

Of course. As I recall, the aeropress is not very expensive. It is essentially a large syringe that has a removable basket on the discharge end. A stainless "brewing" screen is available as an accessory. I place the 50 micron screen last, followed by the stainless aero screen, and then a paper filter (aeropress). This screws onto the bottom of the chamber. After washing for 3 min., I dump the whole mess into the 'press and slowly press the plunger from the top of the chamber all the way down til it almost touches the top of the herb. This extracts all the solvent without squeezing any non-desirables from the plant matter. I do this over top of a pyrex pie plate. After the solvent is pressed out, I unscrew the filters(s) and dump the moist herb back into my large mason jar. Add a splash of Everclear and allow to soak. At some later point, I will pour off the solvent and strain through activated charcoal. This gives me a 2nd wash that really is not suitable for vaping, but will work very well for a tincture. I have been using fresh herb, that is frozen along with the Everclear which lives in the freezer. The stainless 50 micron seems to do a fantastic job leaving all the lipids and waxes behind. I do not use heat to purge until after scraping from the pyrex. Then I will let any residual solvent burp out of the extract as it sits in a no-goo container (in a nice WARM spot) with the lid off. Top notch aroma and clarity, and no worries about "mystery" anything as with bho solvents. I have seen differing views as to Everclear having residual sugars, however, I do not worry about this miniscule potential. This is the only method for me as far as extracting goes. My last batch was between 7-14 grams and it looks to be a good yield. I will let you know the return once it comes "off the plate". So far there is no indication that the ethanol is affecting the integrity of the aeropress. No hazing or discoloration, anyway the solvent is only briefly in contact with the 'press .

Fuck Butane.
