Recommendations for a prodigal

Hi, I spent a lot of time on the forums a few years ago, but I haven't had time to keep up lately. The only vape I've owned is a trusty MFLB that I've been using these past few years.

I've only used batteries on it, but I've been considering the plug in adapter. The adapter is pretty expensive however.

So I'm wondering if possibly I shouldn't just get a new vape instead.

I'm not attuned to the current models and market but I remember how informative everyone here was last time I spent time, so I figure I'll mine the collected wisdom here for recommendations.

I don't use much plant material at all. (back then my next purchase was slated to be a log)
I don't need clouds and clouds.
Portable is nice, but I have the MFLB so it is not necessary.
I like something that conserves plants economically.
Variable temperature seems to make sense.
Easy operation is good.
Low maintenance and very low cleaning is good too.
I vape alone.

Any recommendations?

I'm not sure you can find a decent vapourizer for the same price or less than the MFLB PA. If you like the LB then that's the best solution. It meets all of your requirements.

OTOH I strongly believe in owning at least two different devices for the backup aspect. In that case, the FlashVAPE is a relatively inexpensive ($130) device that might work for you. It is similar in concept to the LB but it is possible to turn it into a pure convection vapourizer with the S2 spacer (at additional cost). The FV is one of the few designs that is completely user repairable, although it is an extremely reliable design and really doesn't require a lot of user maintenance.

There are Solos to be had now for as low as $130. The Vapolution 2.0 is a plug-in with digital temperature settings and an all-glass vapour path, and with the discount code in the thread it is a really good price. Both the Extreme Q and the Herbalaire are versatile plug-ins that you can get for around $160 or so.

Check the Lotus as well. It uses a butane torch so it has a big autonomy and the airpath is isolated from the butane, unlike the VaporGenie.

It conserves like a log. It gives you excelent taste and great convection extraction. It is portable and low maintenance.

And it uses heat-on-demand like the LB which maximizes efficiency since you don't cook the load between hits.

It has replaced all my vapes in the majority of situations even my plug-ins


If you want a plug-in with preset temps and not heat-on-demand, i'd go with the Nano like Caligula mentioned.

As a veteran Vapolution user I can testify that this model is one of the best bargains available (see post #1 in the thread). Once you get the hang of it, you can get great taste and the small bowl can help stretch your supply. And as a 12V model, it's more portable than most AC vapes.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. You have helped me expand the possibilities! I'm not certain I want to use butane. One more thing to fidget with and to have to have on hand. I love the log idea and I'm glad that logs are still in fashion after the years I've been gone from these forums. How is the Vapolution compared to a log? It sure seems to be a great price, but I like the idea of the log enough to justify the price differential. "
A lot of folks seem to like the Heat Island as well as the e-nano and I'm not in a hurry. Any thoughts on either of them?

I'm definitely a lightweight in regard to usage. I tend to vape very little.

I like my Nano. Its got a tiny form factor which makes it perfect for either holding in one hand or mating to a water tool. Add to that the fact that you can get it in all sorts of different hand finished woods, it has a price point under $200, and that Andy (the owner) gives awesome personal attention... and you get an idea of why so many people like owning this product.

Now I havent used a HI, however id assume performance is going to be similar if not identical. The only thing id add to that is that the Nano has built in heat adjustability (1-10 dimmer switch). Not sure if you get that option with the HI? Also I think the HI has a long wait list... but that may be old info im going off of.

The HI and enano both look great for you but your going to wait a year or so for a HI once you get on the waiting list. The Vapolution and Underdog are also both pretty simple to use and have little to no maintenance like the HI and E-nano once their plugged in all you need is your stem of choice and your herbs.

You couldn't go wrong with either the Nano or HI, Or the UD and vapo 2. I believe they are all some of the finest vapes for small quantities of herb.

Yep, I've been waiting for my HI since April 2013. I'm fine with it, since they are so very beautiful and worth the wait. Also, while you wait, Alan tends to improve the design or offer more options, so it can be worth if if you've got the means and the patience! That glass core you can get in the HI now sure sounds sweet.

Frankly, I don't see any reason to NOT put your name on the list even if you think you don't want one. It's free, and you may change your mind while you're waiting. So there's no harm in it.

The UD and Nano are both fantastic options. I've owned both and if circumstances permitted I'd have all three current logs!

Man, get an E-Nano and if you need portability, a Lotus. These are cheap, and from the reviews around here (as well as my own experience with my Nano, which now doesn't run at full heat because I accidentally ran 240v through it) they are the only vapes you'll need.

The Nano will give you clouds, and conserve herb, I have put a pulldown photo in the E-Nano thread, have a look if you want to know about the internals. It is seriously the electrical appliance equivalent of a zippo lighter. Simple (very few components, very well constructed, extremely well designed), elegant, and very easily repairable in the event that you do something silly like I did to damage it. It seems Andy gives a limited lifetime warranty to FC members too!

Buying both of these vapes will set you back $300 USD or so. That will cover all bases.

I've never used the Magic Flight or the Vapolution but by all reports the Vapolution produces some of, if not the best tasting vapour of any vaporizer, while the Box is not noted for taste. For $100 shipped for the Vapolution vs. $80 to use your Box plugged-in is a no brainer.
