So....I just had a revelation. Maybe I am just an idiot, but I would say look into this if you are someone having trouble achieving results with the FF. Look at the air intake holes. All 3 sides of the front of the unit. I was blocking these sometimes. Holding it without blocking them is not super convenient (design flaw perhaps), but check out the difference with them completely clear. Something so simple and stupid.
PLEASE RESPOND IF YOU TRY THIS! This has completely changed the machine for me, and I ALREADY really liked it.
Another small issue I had was the FF's mouthpiece was a little lose. So I followed the instructions in this thread and took the chrome plate off. Under there is all the goodies but where the mouthpiece is attached there was some extra brown colored glue stuck in the air hole outlet...using a plactic pic I cleaned out that rubber hole and now I have an even better experience. It was blocking the air path somewhat. Just love the FireFly but was thinking this could be the cause of a few issues in this thread. Nope, it wasn't resin.

Now that I am careful to leave the air intakes totally unblocked, the air flow is much better, the abv is more even, the temp is easier to control, the flavor is better, it doesn't seem to pull material up into the lid nearly as frequently. Wow. Just a huge difference, noticed immediately. The natural way of holding the FF blocks the air intake. I don't know why I never noticed that. I think sometimes covering and then uncovering the intakes causes the material to fly around as well.

Were you eating caramels while you vape? We warned you of the dangers!

I think so also.
Any removal of obstruction of air in an enclosed situation, during suction causes a vortex (air spin)
peak into your launch box and suck hard, and watch the turmoil!

So I picked up some stainless steel screens for my FF unit. I have a screen that is just as big, circumference-wise, as the glass bowl. The mesh is not as fine as the screens that the FF ship with. I have zero fliers now. My bowls always end up with a nice dark-brown ABV. Whether or not this is due to increased heat, due to the additional metal, or the fact that the herb is always within the confines of the glass bowl, I do not know. What I do know, is my FF now extracts just as well as my VTE.

I find that the effect on flavor is minimal.

I will say that since i have been using the arizer screen basket, i have been getting bigger and better hits, flavor is still there and i also can get my ABV darker. I use a medium to fine grind i like. I tried using my FF without the bowl to see if there was any difference...only thing i noticed i got more hits when i use the screen but that may be psychological. I love the fact that this unit is so versatile. i have tried all the different grinds, but the one that works best for ME!!! is a medium to fine grind in the arizer basket. I do notice the harshness that @steama mentioned when he was using that type of grind, but i tend to like that harshness makes that sip of cognac go down a little better. I also love the fact that you guys are sharing your ideas and viewpoints on the usage of this unit. It has helped me find my own personal flow with this unit. I love my FF, and you can look for a few of my pieces in the classifieds...time to clean house!!!

I like the size of this unit.
How is the flavor profile?

I trust your judgment!
How is the flavor profile?
Flavor profile is excellent....the thing that impresses most everyone on this forum is the flavor and the COOLNESS of the vapor. The vapor is so cool that when you exhale you will not believe how much comes out. For example when i hit my PnP it is harsh and burns my throat. FF not harsh completly cool and flavor is there. I have heard that the lotus may have a better flavor profile, i will not be able to speak on that until my lotus gets here.

I have 3 SOLO'S and they work great with all my ridicules set ups.
The LOTUS is more labor however the flavor I can not criticize.
The thing I like about the FIREFLY is the size and plug and play appearance.

Thinking about adding it to my quiver however I haven't heard a positive comment concerning flavor?

I think if you troll thru this forum you will find many posts about taste and all of them mention how great the taste is and how it is the best out of most portables. I know of one person who likes the taste of the lotus better. as for me i own 9 different vapes and 6 of them are portables...FF blows them all away in the taste department. FF tastes better than my damn EVO cloud unit

WTF was that so difficult?
I read the first page but I am not going through the whole tread to get an answer!

I have vaporizers as well that taste incredible that are plug in.

Some of the portables taste so horrible I would rather go smoke a joint!

Simple questions should not have smart ass answers!
Dude hit a bowl...calm down. nothing smart assed about my answer at all. I just said if you did your due diligence you would have found your answer. there were several posts on this page(96) about taste!

CLIFF NOTES!

I'll put it to the test.
No big deal!

It's all good!

CLIFF NOTES!

The Cliff Notes version of the story: Boy (middle-aged man, I mean) meets Firefly. Man fills Firefly. Man uses Firefly. Man falls in love with the BEST, SMOOTHEST FLAVOR he's ever tasted from a portable vape, and flavor EQUAL to or better than any desktop vape. Man stops seeing other vapes (Solo, MFLB, etc). Man and FF live happily ever after. The End.

Now from the sublime (FF flavor) to the ridiculous (Cee Lo Green), check this out (scroll down about 1/3 of the page...)

Can anyone help me with the stated objective: running my FF through a Diamond Glass 2 Perc bubbler wth a male ground glass 18 mm "entry port"?

Ah,

turns out that the very edge of the male 18.5-16.5 mm (ie 18 mm) fits the opening of the FF ceramic or glass 15.5 mm bowl very well, as in that video on page 81.

That is good for many of us here, as most glassware can present an 18 mm male connector.

Now the question is how to retain the material under vape (Das Vapestoffe) in the inverted bowl. Waxes and oils in a metal spongelet. But herb? As a "puck"? under a screen hat? ideas? Little discovery: non magnetic brass wool does make a better spongelet than steel wool.

For $5.46 at home depot you can get BROZNE WOOL in course, medium or fine?

Which one?
$20 on line.

Course - Medium - Fine?

I use the Fine. Make a little circular item about a US 5 cent piece (or a Euro 20 cent piece) in thickness. Work it to use long strands of the brass, and get rid of little shards. Make a few. Torch them to burn off any cutting oil etc. Shake out any tiny pieces. Fit the spongelet to the bottom so it doesn't fall out. A dab in the middle, melt it on. If the dabs be big, the spongelet has to be thicker to hold more liquid. For little dabs, even a Dime (10 cent US 1 Cent Euro) piece's thickness works well.

I like that made in USA brass wool. Hand-whittled in 'Merca?

Anyway what I do like about this is the totally flexible dab experience. No compulsory industrial toxic choking in your lungs. Gradually tasting the different layers. OR heat it up well before dabbing for that Apocalyptic Cloud.

If you have an 18mm male fitting on a bong, pressing the FF against it makes a pretty good seal.

p.s. OK, I see people doing 3 gram dabs on YouTube. A little like "is it a good idea to microwave your head". Anyway, I dunno about THAT kind of Apocalyptic Cloud.

@fernand my "wpa" is just a 14mm male joint. The bottom of my FF just happened to fit an adapter I had laying around so I started adding screens and went from there.
The issues are that every FF will have slight variations in diameter of the glass along with every 14mm joint is different as well. Just the nature of the material we are dealing with.
Put it this way, out of 6 14mm joints, 1 fit one FF, 1 fit the other, and 4 that would need adjustments with diamond tooling.
So it's easy, but you have to have a lil luck.

@WildChild AND ANYONE ELSE THAT HAVEN'T GOTTEN RESULTS WITH THE FIREFLY
Try this: Hold the firefly in such a way that NONE of the air intakes are covered by your fingers. Hold button for 1-4 seconds (preheat), hit (while holding button) for 10, release and continue to hit. If this doesn't work I would be amazed!
Since I started checking to make sure that the air intakes are clear, the draw resistance is WAY reduced, the ABV is more even, I can more intuitively reach high temps (I like my ABV dark brown), and ALMOST NO particles in the window. I think I would compare the reason for that to when only one car window is open on the highway. Without the balanced airflow from different directions, it creates fast channels of air from one side that forces the material upwards.

It seriously feels like a different machine.

Sold my FF. And I was always careful not to block the air intakes...not quite sure how you were holding it.

Thank you, though.

EDIT: I just wish to add that the guy I sold my FF to absolutely loves it. It's obviously a solid piece of kit and I wish everyone happiness with theirs.
