Discontinued Thermovape Cera

Does anybody find the draw on the cera to be a little too tight when it's properly loaded up? It feels like I'm trying to drink a thick milkshake, pretty annoying tbh. This happens even after I completely clean the cart.

Which cart?

For sure, some will find most any vape too restrictive. And some the other way.
Having personally Beta tested versions with more (and less) venting I think the compromise used is a good one. But that's a personal (and subjective) view, others will no doubt differ.

Such testing in other TV products has led to intentional introduction of restrictions, IMO to good advantage.

Again, personal technique has a lot to do with it, what pleases some random net.guy might not suit you.....no reason it should really?

Could it be the mouthpiece?
After using my LL core for a while, the MP tip becomes clogged with oil built up from the botanicals I vaporize.
Possible suspect?

Possible, but the 'when loaded up' part fooled me then? I think we're talking a LL cart, where overpacking can make the draw harder, but from the tone of the OP I assume this has been accounted for. He didn't say 'when it's really packed in'. Maybe his herb is just real moist?

I'm thinking it's normal (which is somewhat restricted as we know in a carefully controlled manner), but lots of other possibilities exist for sure......keeps it fresh that way.

so has anyone heard of this happening to their cera?
without touching it at all, it starting pouring out vapor. by the time i was able to pick it up and try to take the battery out the cart was scalding hot. i tried unscrewing the cart, taking the battery out and putting it all back together...as soon as i put the battery back in Cera started boiling and shooting out oil. when i looked at the switch everything seemed normal and the spring had not changed at all. very weird. any thoughts fc?

Two thoughts, first as Einstein suggested, stop doing it expecting different results. Unless, of course you don't really care. It is this exact concern (over unexpected runaways) that led to the abandonment of the original sliding switch idea and ended latching tail cap switches (we had a couple of them with the prototype switches). That's how we come to have a momentary one in the tail cap. Visualize it spitting oil out onto the leather seat in your car?

Secondly, it sounds like a shorted switch, once common before a change in the switches used. In any case, even if it stops for a bit it can do it again most any time. Send it in for service is my advice.

I was refering to the EO core. And the MP is completely clean. I wish there was some way to incorporate adjustable air flow into the EO core. Some RBA's have been able to pull it off.
I guess it was a compromise in the design as OF put it.

What kind of oil are you loading in there. I notice when i first load it with shatter and sometimes wax when its really filled up, its almost impossible to draw from until its been heated for 10-20 seconds sometimes. Usually only need that amount of heating time to get it unclogged when its really full though. After a few hits airflow returns to normal. Mine is really easy to draw from most other times though.

Even when its completely clogged though after the heat up time to get it unclogged i instantly get huge HUGE lung busting clouds. And once its unclogged and still full i get huge clouds almost instantly.

If you cant suck through it at all, try heating it up for 10-20 seconds and puff on it lightly until it "pops". Be careful though if its really full and clogged you can get your mouthpiece really dirty. If your just not getting good airflow then i would think clean it out and try again. If neither of those options fix it then i would suggest the $25 ground up rebuild.

Also just keep in mind, as @OF stated, its designed with a restricted airflow so it might just be thats what your experiencing. If it was completely free airflow youd be drawing too hard and getting whispy vapor.

Hope that helps. If you need any help feel free to pm me id be glad to try my best

Do you only have an EO? If so, try cleaning out your cart, then put it back on and apply downward pressure to the cart while trying to heat it up. It should still have liquid in it so if it sizzles then its probably the strap if not then its probably the cart. Gonna have to clean it up anyway to send it out so its worth a shot
In the process of letting it dry out from an iso soak right now. I did notice though that if I grab the threading on the cart it can wiggle a bit. Is this normal? Possible the previous owner dropped the cart at some point and that's what's causing it to not heat up?

I've already resigned myself to it having to be the cart but would a core rebuild fix a busted connection? Or should I just resign myself to buying a new cart?

thanks......looks like its going to have to go back, i just sent it in to get updated to the new specs so i wasn't anticipating any problems with the switch but Zeki assured me they would get it back in working order. Good thing my LUNA just got delivered!!

If you send the body/switch back with the core for the $25 rebuild they should make sure everything is in working order. Just tell them before hand your problem and your sending everything in with the cartridge just to be safe. I would also include your battery. Theyll send everything back to you. No need to get a new cartridge.

side note: just got some disappointing news from Zeki. I emailed asking if there was an eta about the luna switch upgrade for the Cera and if I could get my name in so i could be one of the first to get it done whenever it was ready. Heres what i got back...

"We are not sure when or if 100% the newer switch will be able to be adapted into the Cera but we are working on it.
~Zeki"

Im hoping the are just downplaying it. But doesnt look like anytime soon.

Hopefully the adapters will be out soon. I was thinking persei wouldnt be good for the LL cause of the cutoff but then i remembered about the hammer top. Cera LL with a latching switch!!!

I'm scheduled to take my existing cores over for fitting/rebuilding to work with the Luna tomorrow. I'll see if I can get a handle on this.

Last word I had (from Nate himself....) is it was planned for after Luna was in regular production (unlike, hopefully, the adapters....). Perhaps they're playing it close to the vest since that time (Luna release) isn't a given? IMO too many vape makers get too far ahead of themselves bragging up on neat stuff to come. Frustrating as it is on our end, I think I prefer it when they can actually deliver a mature, solid product on schedule? Better I think than all the late and false starts.......not to mention products that even over a year later haven't made it.

Toolbag v1.1 (candidate)

This is being cross-posted because we have made a policy decision on the status of the Cera and Luna threads.

When the Luna started shipping and we started to see increased activity in its candidate thread, we also began getting questions about whether it should be merged with the Cera thread. We were asked to consider that TET was presenting a technology platform and not really a new device.

Our policy is that a thread is about a particular device that you can buy. If you go to TET's website you are greeted with two large graphics, one for the (1) Luna and one for the (2) Cera. Some of the text below them reads:

Two Devices [our emphasis]

You can order a Cera or a Luna. Clearly TET markets these as two devices, therefore there will be two threads.

This is intended as an announcement only. Please do not respond in this thread. PMs are welcome but do not expect this decision to change.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site and I'll explain why.
I am French and I just ordered my Cera few days ago .
I really look forward to receiving my new toy!
I already know vaporizers because I have a digital volcano which i am very satisfied. I was looking for a portable vaporizer and I discovered cera which seems appropriate at any point that I want. I wanted a spray herbs and oils, I found my great happiness!
I would like to know if batteries sold on Thermoessence website are lithium ion batteries?
Must we use only Lithium ion with cera & no NiCd, NiMH?
Thanks

@Cerapops You definitely do not want to use NiCd or NiMH batteries...

There are 3 recommended batteries for the cera.

1) the Panasonic CGR18650CH 2250 mah batteries. These have a quicker heat up time but dont last as long. They were also discontinued so might have trouble finding them.
2) panasonic NCR18650PD or NCR18650PF 2900 mah batteries. These are the ones the currently sell.
3) the sony 18650VTC4 The battery is supposedly the best for LL.

You dont need to get them from TV but i would stick with those 3 for best results

First off, welcome to the Forum and all the fun. Lots of good folks around, willing to help and advise.

Great vape choice, IMO you are very justified being excited about getting it. It should give you long, top notch service. It is very similar to Volcano in many important respects. Although you have to play a more active role in controlling the heat, it's a skill most pick up very easily.......and the learning process is much less painful than most......

To back up what MNIM has just said, let me be a little more blunt? Use only one of those three batteries (not 'just as good' or 'better' Li-ions you may find), those 3 are special and known to work. There are better prices around if you search, but it might make more sense to pay a little more for a couple (I recommend two, keeping a charged one handy to swap in if the heat/battery charge comes into question) from TV at the same time. Or not.

Anyway, welcome, I hope you too are soon enjoying this excellent tool. Keep it dry, grind it fine, pack it in and it can amaze and astound.

Science...Whoo!
Anyone seen the new Sony VTC5's starting to come out? Not sure they make much difference than the VTC4's. Seems they last a bit longer is the main difference. Any thought?

The Sony VTC5's are available now. Three pack for $30. (shipping is $5 for orders under $50, free for orders over $50). vapordna is a USA vendor (not China), though I have not used them.

These are the latest version of the 30A high current (low internal resistance) green wrapped wonders. Sony managed to add 500mAh to this years version. (2600mAh is pretty astounding for a monster like this). I haven't seen the discharge curves for the VTC5 yet, but I suspect they're the same as for the VTC4 and VTC3. Like all in this Sony series, the cells are flat top.

link

edit: Found the link for a single cell, at $13 each, if you don't want three or you want an even number.

Yeah I have used vapordna before and had good luck. I just got some VTC4's and might wait until the price goes down on the 5's a bit. The 4's are amazing but haven't got to try them the Cera yet as she is still in California. :(

I have been using CO2 oil with my EO with good results - good flavor, easy loading from the syringe it comes in, good medicinal effect. But always open to trying something new, so just wondering - what are the cons to using shatter over oil in the EO? thanks

I too really like CO2 oils, and tend to stock up when I find a good one.

My limited experience with shatter is it's very nice, harder to get going well and (most important to me) if you overfill it and get it too hot and end up with the lower ports covered (as can happen) it takes forever to get it liquid enough to draw. Serious jam city. I've managed to do this bad twice, once I ended up boiling it out and starting over (a heart breaker, but I was getting a hernia from the draw and it would 'ice up' again before it got cool).

By all means try it, but my advice is take it easy on loading it up, if it turns to a rock low down when it's cold you've got trouble...... No stranger to Ataxian of course, but best avoided if possible. Having your Cera jam up and refuse to give out can harsh your mellow, toot sweet. Turns 'OK, just one more hit' into 'Oh, SHIT, not again...'.
