Hmmm... probably not the same but I do have it connected to the PC via USB to trickle charge and xfer data while Im working (about 4-6 hrs a day). Id have to check but im 99% sure it charges even when using the full USB 3.0 bandwidth to xfer data.

Of course perhaps my top of the line smartphone has software and hardware to help maximize battery life? I know its got an option to cap maximum battery charge at 90%...
Nice phone. If using as you do, I'd use that option. Military standard as @OF would say.

What haven't I read enough? You have posted that Arizer's part numbers actually mean nothing? I haven't read that anywhere on the internet before. The direct email from Arizer stating they mean nothing is the first I have heard of it.

What information you have posted are you referring to?
Also, this thread is 986 pages, there's no way you can expect anyone to read all 986 pages to find one of your posts. Maybe a separate thread that lists model numbers and believed relevant changes for each model number?

I was letting this issue rest but since you guys won't...

New one is still on left

The new one on the left was purchased five months after the one on the right.

I am not talking about one post, I am talking about numerous posts from me and others that explain this issue. Frankly, I find it much against the spirit of FC when misinformation is repeatedly posted that leads the unwary into thinking these production numbers are somehow a reliable indicator of... well, the believers never seem to know exactly what.

Yes, Arizer has made changes that showed up with certain lot numbers, but as this photo indicates, there is nothing to reassure a buyer that a particular prefix guarantees that the unit is from the latest production run. To assert a belief otherwise in the face of the evidence—which includes a specific statement from Arizer—is really irresponsible. We see numerous posts here asking about information that has almost no value, and the subsequent thread clutter results in people who fret needlessly and waste effort trying to determine whether a vendor carries the "latest model".

The last couple of day's I just use the SOLO fitted with a PHVES stem and a CHILLUM tip. I love water but I'm feeling super lazy. DRY stems are amazing. Tonight I will break out a STOCK stem. Who knows? Maybe tomorrow I will seek water path?

Mix it up!

It's all good!

Actually my stock stems are modified a bit. I use my Extreme Q balloon stems connected to the end of the stock stems with little 1" pieces of tubing. The gong is actually that Aroma therapy bowl that no one uses. I had a local glass blower punch out a hole and add the 14mm connection. The bowl on this is deep, so a lot can be loaded at a time. It fit a little too loose, so I added the #113 "O" ring and it works fine. Ed's stem is great if I'm working outside or walking in the woods, can just slip the Solo in my pocket. The Pinnacle Water Tool is wonderful, I use it with the gong or even the stright stem; the tubing makes a good connetion. Here's a picture of my setup:

Where? Nothing comes up in the search and as I said before no one is going to read all 987 pages to find your one post.

You should read all the way to the end of a thread before responding. Just a hint...

There is nothing wrong with wanting the latest model, especially if you like the changes over the last model. being able to use the charger while plugged in is a pretty significant change in terms of long lifespan of the product. New model, if the battery dies you can still use it. Old model, if the battery does it's a paperweight unless you spend more money on a new battery.

When reading the thread here and on other boards I found lots of talk about the model numbers meaning something, nothing to say otherwise. I believe you the correct information is there as you showed in your post, but it's buried under the other misinformation.

No reason to be so arrogant, it's not a good quality.

You shouldn't jump to conclusions as you clearly posted your next reply as I was making mine. ;)

So basically Arizer's production numbers are a jumbled mess and they keep making changes so no one will ever really know how the damn thing is supposed to work. Love it.

Nice setup.
Customizing for our likes and needs it what it's all about.

Question?
The PNWT had way to much drag for my liking. A cheap bubbler or ash collector work better for me.
Some like the PNWT however never worked for me?
Then again my needs are medical!

Of course not. What is wrong is encouraging people to believe that the production number is a reliable way to determine what the latest model is.

This is a fast-moving thread and it's a shame that myth gets perpetuated. The thread would be twice as long if I or someone else posted a correction every time someone brings it up. The proper information is posted regularly, but that doesn't help when others claim that Arizer has lied and these numbers can be used as "model numbers".
No reason to be so arrogant, it's not a good quality.

If I had a nickel for every double post I've merged because someone didn't read to the end of the thread before replying, I'd be able to buy us all an ounce or two. Perhaps you think it is arrogant but it's my job to remind people to read to the end of the thread. I'll believe your posting overlap story. Thousands wouldn't.

Guys, it's really simple. The serial numbers mean something... to Arizer. Sort of like how the jumble of letters and numbers printed on the side of this bag of pistachios that I'm looking at doesnt mean anything to anyone but Trader Joe's.

There isnt much else to it unless someone would like to get us a key for said product numbers.

Why not have in the first post in this thread an update that states some of these facts listed throughout this thread such as:

Update March 6 2014
Airizr Solo model numbers can not necessarily be used to determine if a specific model number correlates with any model changes/ updates. As said by Airizer themselves.
It has been rumored that these the model number M1D2 has is the latest updated version but there are no guarantees if you buy the M1D2 it will be the latest model.

Or something along those lines.

That way instead of having to repeat it over and over as the thread grows you can direct them to the first post, and/ or they can read it themselves and not have to ask the question in the first place.

That could of course be exactly it. Not so nobody will be able to use the product (no other evidence exists for this idea, right?) but to not disclose proprietary information they have a perfect right to keep confidential.

There is a logic to making it confusing sometimes. Most industries guard their production numbers I think, for sure many (if not most) vape makers do. I've worked for high tech companies that had this policy. Production run information was strictly confidential. Yes, our serial numbers made little sense without some inside information.

Let's be honest here, even we have tried in the past to use serial numbers and purchase dates to estimate production levels, right? They would be foolish indeed to not assume their competitors are at least that smart.

We're making assumptions about the numbers (with all that means......) and more so in the face of the maker telling us point blank that the numbers don't represent what we keep insisting they must.

Once again, I find myself in league with Brother Pak, repeating false information over and over to the new guys does this Forum no credit. We really should cut it out I think?

Logical suggestion, but who will maintain this information? What makes you think guys won't still 'just ask on the web'? After all it's easier and usually works well and fast.

In a crude way we try to cover it by having guys agree to read the thread and educate themselves before asking questions or bringing up old topics......you can see how well that's working out. We get guys asking a question covered in the few pages before. Nearly every day.

So does anyone anywhere have a Solo with a number before, say M1C1, that allows it to heat while the stock charger is plugged in?
Does anyone anywhere have an M1D1 that does NOT have this feature?

Of course the numbers mean something....

I wish it could be so easy. That's not a bad suggestion but it's probably not as effective as you'd think. Most people don't read the whole thread, and a lot of them start a few pages back from the current post without ever looking at the first post. Another solution is to refer people to the section about this on the Solo Wikipedia page—but I see that the information there is not wrong but is pretty dated. When the next version of the forum software is ready, there will be another possibility that I like, although it will require a lot of effort. We'll see how that works out.
Of course the numbers mean something....

Of course they do, but I'm getting tired of repeating that there is no reliable way to know exactly what.

Its a matter of mitigation not prevention.

You have to admit seeing an almost 1000 page thread can be quite daunting to the average newcomer. I know it was for me, and you (as well as others) still held my hand and spoon fed my noob ass.

Anyway, at the very least, browsing the OP would give them the opportunity to get the TLDR Readers Digest Cliffs Notes before posting.

Also I dont think it would be too hard to have a mod update the OP once a month or whatever... but of they are too busy I volunteer.

i would agree with this. alot of other forums i am on... any new information in always updated in the OP then discussed later in the thread

The updates could have a link to the specific post number in the thread so readers will know where in the thread the topic is being discussed.

Eg.

Model number info here
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-solo.3833/page-987#post-558202

To add to the model number discussion, it's not just this thread that references the different model numbers as a way to indicate model updates/ changes.

Have a look at this site, it references model numbers right at the beginning of the page.

Lazy9, did you check to make sure it's charged up? I thought mine was acting up the other day, and I realized it wasn't charged up.
On yea, fully charged. Put it this way, I can charge it but the moment I try to heat it up, nothing happens, then a beep and it auto off.
I think this is the other blessing I have with my older Solo (M1B1), I have to use two different cables for charging and PA. I keep the charger in my desk and only plug it in to get my Solo charged. I've been using it on the PA cable since I fixed it up, and using battery life when stepping out of the room/house. Still got 4 lights for battery and I don't remember when I charged it
it charges up. I can see the led blinking and when full charge the solid green led is on and all seven LEDs are also on. I even tried using it while charge since I have the m1e, but even that doesn't work. Either way, already contacted randy from puffitup. He already emailed me a return label. Great guy.

If you want to talk about the general problem of how to deal with information buried in monster threads, please open a discussion in the Community Discussion sub-forum. Let's keep this thread about the Solo.

I've been waiting to buy my solo for a week now but puffitup and pv are both sold out of the black one, where else can I get the newest solo with a free grinder for under $160? I really want one

The only way to get the "newest" solo would be from Arizer. Anywhere else won't know what is new and what is old. They will just send what they have.

As has been mentioned, there is no "newest" model number. On the bottom of the Solo is a manufacturing serial number that Arizer says does not indicate a model number.
