Somebody did post some new model #'s not too far back.

Found the post: he posted 1aa1 0101xx, 1aa1 0151xx. Don't really know what that means. My numbers are 1aa1 0102xx. Seems like they are serial numbers and not really new model numbers. I would think that new model numbers would be the first four digits- 1aa1. Sure would like to know if there is a new and improved model out.

Norcalsun,
Every ascent I've seen seems to start with 1aa1. I put xx at the end so people wouldn't know my serial number :) the 151 one I had is the fiber model, I'm assuming that's about 5k further down the production line and has somes tweaks to it.

Too the guys adding in all the metal and brass and other alloys in their bowls, please be careful vaping certain metals as they may be dangerous. Just look them up before you use them.

mod note: From the rules page-
  • If you have a question or comment regarding material safety, post it in General Discussion. Do not post it in a model thread.

Logically, yes, I was merely passing along the information as I read it. I don't remember which post or site I read it on, but they specifically mention '2 wires' - don't know if they mean 2 pairs or 2 wires, but yes, there should be at least 4 conductors going through that hinge.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone brave enough to disassemble their Ascent to see what the internals look like - I've only seen shots of under the mouthpiece (all you can see is the top of the 2 batteries, not much else).

Also, does anyone have issues with their screen lens? It feels like the bottom portion of my lens has come slightly unglued, with minimal pressure I can feel the bottom of the lens flex away from the body. I'm afraid to apply pressure to the top portion of the lens for fear of it coming completely loose.

Like I said before, I like my Ascent, but the build quality is lacking at this point. My advice to all my friends thinking about the Ascent is the same - wait a few months for the bugs to get worked out.
My screen used to move if pressed on the top or the bottom. I could feel it every time I pressed the buttons. That was my stealth model.

I recently received my new carbon fiber model, it seems to have a higher stench than the stealth did. Not out of the box, that was actually not bad. But I've literally run 3 full days of burn ins and when I do a dry hit I still taste silicone. It only took one day for the stealth to burn out and no longer taste like it.

I haven't wanted to use it because I know if it tastes like silicone my experience will be ruined. I have it an ISO clean and everything, but still stinks. I can see the silicone itself is better quality for a seal. It has a nice lip on it that closes the chamber, but damn this smell!

Also, my serial number is 2AA1, could this mean I have the 2nd version?

Finally caved in after running another handful of burn ins, and not to my surprise, it tastes like rubber. So disappointed that even after that many burn ins it's still there. Even gave me a slight headache and my experience was totally ruined. I don't see anything off gassing when I hold a light to it, so what could be going on here?

That's pretty cool. I save my ABV, but just throw it all in one jar (mixing it up with each addition) regardless of what strain or how spent it is. It eventually gets used for edibles or, in a rare emergency, to (can I even utter "the 'S' word" here?) smoke.

Then again, I usually just keep my Ascent on 375 and don't experiment much with temperature. I haven't found anything to be gained (IME) going any higher. I suppose I do experience lower temps incidentally, if I don't wait long enough before taking the first hit, or between hits.

With all this talk about lower temperature experiences I might have to try some more experimenting. It would be nice to find a good setting that makes me feel good but with minimal impairment. This would be especially good for daytime medication.
I work days and I vape at 320. Nice high but not stoned out.

Tony don't worry about it just put a few bowls through it and that taste will disappear it has for the 3 ascents i have had.

To everyone with the bug in the temperature control, i have had the bug in the last 2 not in the first one. all i do is set the temp for 399f or 403f and it will go to those temps fine but between 399f to 403f it will only indicate the previous temperature. not real a big issue as i step up my temps, i start as low as 300f for flavour jumping up 325, 350, 375 399 and then 430f to finish hope this helps some of you with this issue.

Do you do the burn ins with the bottom open or closed?

If closed, are you leaving the glass stems in?

I've run it with it mostly closed, open it here and there. I do have the glass stems in, I put it in a drafty area and would also blow through the bottom slightly to get air circulating through it.

I figured I'd have to put some bowls through it, but is that just masking a rubber odor or does it actually go away?

Of course! I've been trying to find the best metal to 3D print - but my results came up short, so I've abandoned it for now - 3d printed glazed ceramic on the other hand...... ha ha ha

Yes! Sounds like the CF is the newer model - this is the first I've seen of a 2AA1 - everyone else has the 1AA1 models (Apparently the 1AA1 was used for the first batch, which was a disaster, I believe they reused the same 1AA1 designation for the revised model with the hing clasp, improved buttons, pre-offgassing using the on-site silicon curing machines) - don't know about your off-gassing problem. I did 2 sessions at 430 with a small desk fan blowing a gentle breeze through the air vent for about 4 hours (while off-gassing and charging). After that, I could still smell the electronics smell a bit, but decided to pack it up and try it. Since that first session, I haven't had any problems. Then again I'm not as "sensitive" as some people around here....

It's a really strange bug - sometimes I set it to 400 - I see it climbing to it, and then suddenly - it's reading 398?? Wth?

This morning I had another strange phenomenon. I had assumed this was caused by a longer session - but this morning I finished off a session from last night - starting at 380 and working up to 400. After about 2 minutes at 380, I went up to 400 - guess where it stopped - 388F. So after waiting about 30 seconds, I tried a power cycle. The temp guage now read 396 and the temp icon showed it was heating up - but it only got to 398 - never the 400 it was set at! Very strange......

And 430? Wow, I stop all my sessions at 400! Is it worth using my saved ABV for "dry spells" and vape up to 430?

Edit - Just got so tired of loading my Ascent by balancing it on the countertop. Here's a simple stand I designed. Printing it now to verify it fits.

Mine does the same thing, if I set it to 400 degrees its not going to go there, it usually stays around 390-397 for some reason.

Just got my daisy stem screens today. Went from 1 to 3. Huge diff. Lower temp more vapor.

Excellent, another convert! I don't think anyone has reported anything else but instant success?

Pretty cool how such a simple and cheap thing can make such a big improvement, IMO any owner who doesn't give it a go is missing a sure bet.......

Too bad it's harder for some of us to get them, but IMO most any reasonable effort is worth it.

Thanks for the feedback.

My only problem with them is how long they take to load the unit! I want to find something easier and faster to use.

Most of the time it was unplugged, I ran it plugged in a few times. I still don't see any off gassing I can just taste the rubber taste. No other problems with this model though. The hinge is much stronger and has a click to it now. Seems sturdy.

I found the following goose neck type product. It may be a good loading option for some.

Looking forward to the results -- and photos!

Sadly, I designed the model from memory, and from specs available online - it seems I was a bit too accurate with my measurements. Needed to add 1.5mm wiggle-room to prevent my stand from scratching the unit. Will be posting pictures of version 2.0 tomorrow!

Note - pending moderator's approval, I will be linking to a store which you can purchase this stand and other Ascent accessories in a variety of materials including plastic, and metal such as stainless steel.

Hi everyone!

I just started to use the Ascent, my first vaporizer, and have a few doubts. Meanwhile I read all the staff on this useful thread let me ask the first ones...

Battery life: I have tested two units and the battery lasts only for one hour, 70 minutes at most (at 380ºF). Is the reason I return the first unit (carbon 1AA1 011XXX) and the second one I got (carbon 2AA1 003XXX) acts exactly in the same way. Doesn't it should be 3+ hours? I wonder if everybody has better performance or accepts that as normal. Haven't read anything about this yet.

The use you comment of glass flowers, beads or cotton: Is only to prevent little pieces to reach the mouth? or there are other purposes? Compact material vaporizes better or worse? A little stone could do the work?

Sorry by my terrible English and greetings from Spain!

Hi!

Battery life depends on the temperature you use, if you set it high it will use more battery. If you set it low it will use less battery. Depends on your temperatures!

The glass flowers are for smaller loads. If you fill it all the way you don't really need the glass flowers. The glass flowers are better for smaller loads. They get warm as well and will help vaporize your material easier. The Ascent uses conduction vaporization so it needs to be touching the bowl to vaporize. The glass flowers act like an extension of the bowl by storing heat and helping vaporize. Compact material will work better. A little stone might work but I would not use them. Glass conducts heat better than a small pebble or rock!

Hi Quetzalcoatl,

380ºF is inside the normal range of temperatures, isn't it? And 70 real minutes in front of 180 theoretic is too much difference, don't you think? If that is like it really works I don't understand how DV replaced my first unit instead of trying me accept the sad true.

Are you sure the glass conducts heat better than stone? I'd have to test it.

Thank's for the feedback!
