Yesterday I got my Hercules. After ISO soaking the parts and putting it back together, I was able to test it a little. I need to get some shatter made, but in the meantime I figured I'd solicit some opinions.

Can you guys tell me the "tips and tricks" for the Herc? How do load it? How do you store it, etc?

I think I'd like better batteries and charger, maybe. I don't think my batts get the unit hot enough for the the Herc. It seems like I have to hold the button down a long time to get the rod hot.

I watched the video of the SR74 and they guy has a meter to test the Herc. Do you guys use a meter to test? What's a good meter to get?

I read on here that you can load bubble hash. I tried this and it worked, but after I couldn't get the cartridge out it was so gunked up. I destroyed it and now only have one. Do you guys use 2 in the Herc? Should I forget trying bubble hash in it?

Thanks!

You destroyed a Ti coil ?! :o Why didn't you warm the body with a lighter ? it would be easy to take it off.
Have you took off the rod before trying to put out the coils ?
Yes I think it's better to use 2 coils.

Right, that's why I am asking these questions. I had no idea that heating the body is the way to get it out until after I tried to pry it out with the tool!

I read a lot of this thread, but not all of it. I also searched for Herc info, I found some, but certainly not what I needed. So yea, I only have one coil now and still feel I am doing this shit all wrong!

I am using the SR-71 so it may be slightly different. You are using the Ti coils? If you use only one does the rod protrude from the top of the coil. I find it best to have it protrude slightly from the top of the coil for material that is fairly solid at room temp. A taller coil seemed to impede flow and I would get some burned taste. Dialing in your button technique is also key. I am also using 2xAW18650(200mAh) with the SS kit. I know that the SR-71 is a power hog. Make sure your batteries are well charged and maybe invest in some spares. I know that all of the info here can be daunting but the rewards will be well worth the effort. Wonderful tasting, lung ripping hits.:ko:

Can we order titanium coils for the SR-71? The only Ti coils I see on the site are for SR-74 and it still says "Pre-order"

I've been waiting for the Ti coils for a while so any input would be appreciated!

The Ti coils will be interchangeable between the 71 and 74. I pre- ordered a while back while the price was still cheaper.;) Apparently, the parts shipment got hung up in customs but has arrived this week.
So they will be shipping soon. I hope.

Yea, I guess they are TI coils. And yea, the rod protrudes just a little. I set it up like they show in the YouTube video.

That's what i figure. It just seems to take a long time to produce vapor.

I am also using 2xAW18650(200mAh) with the SS kit.

These are not the stock batteries?

Thanks for the help!

You just need two stacked 3.7v cells to get 7.4v output (assuming that's the rating of the rod you got with the 74), they can be 18350's or 18650's with the full length extension tube attachment. I don't know as I haven't used the 74 but check your assembly and before loading anything at all pulse the button while looking down the chamber and watching the rod. At some point it should glow red hot. Obviously you will never get it to that point when loaded during operation, but the whole chamber and teflon shroud will be very warm to the touch when it is operating correctly and you said it doesn't get there so maybe start from square 1.

IMHO they should sell the SR-74 with a brand-spanking new set of AW IMR's

Tstat if you are using the stock batteries that came with your persei, you are probably going to be disappointed. SR74 runs much better and longer with better batteries (ie: AW IMR 18350s) Surprised someone didn't mention that already..

The AW18650 2000mAh batteries are not stock but they do come from w9( other vendors have them as well but there are counterfeits out there so use a trusted source.). These batteries are each the length of the two short stockers (18350 900mAh). For that battery configuration and my concentrate it it 3 seconds on the button and 3 seconds off while inhaling the whole time, as many cycles that I can handle in one breath.

OK, I took it apart again and I had it assembled wrong, I think! Once I put it back together and I'm getting nice heat from it and the rod does glow a little. I'm still going to grab some more/better batteries. Any good places to get them?

I think this is going to work out, because now that I have taken it a part a few times, I get how it works and how all of the spring loaded pieces need to make a good connection. I've got some Everclear extraction evaporating now. So, tomorrow I'll be able to try it for real.

I got all my aw batteries from w9 but you can get them pretty much from any ecig store or any online stores that have w9 products.

I see there are mixed opinions about the coils. If your using shatter or wax in it or anything thats not a runny oil I would suggest 1 coil. The Ti coils and lower powered rod means that its gonna take slightly longer to heat up the oil. If you use two coils your oil will be farther from the rod meaning even more time to heat up.

For loading the oil, i usually load it in two steps. Place the oil on the coil/rod. Press button and puff a few time without inhaling to melt it down. Then repeat and you should be good to go.

Should I get 2 of theres:

http://www.lighthound.com/AW-IMR-18350-700mAh-LiMN-Rechargeable-Lithium-Battery_p_3818.html

Or one of the 18650s? Also, there are a bunch of 18650s on there. Not sure which is the best...
2 of those would be good but 2 of these: http://www.lighthound.com/AW-IMR-18650-2000mAh-LiMN-Rechargeable-Lithium-Battery_p_4075.html. PLUS this: http://www.w9tech.com/persei-essential-oil-vaporizer-ss-kit/ Gives you this:

He doesnt have an ss kit @DieHard. So he cant use two 18650 batts yet. @Tstat thats the wand I needed the custom stand for. Hence why it needed to be so deep.

You need to look at the voltage on those batteries. You will see that both the 18350 and 18650 batteries are 3.7v. That means you need to stack two of them together to get things running at 7.4v (3.7 x 2 = 7.4), which is what your Hercules requires unless you use the 3.7v rod.

As was said before you need a Persei SS (Super Stealth which is a misnomer in this case) kit so you can add an extra length of tube to accommodate two larger 18650 batteries (they are roughly 2x as long as an 18350 battery).

The upside to this is that the batteries last a lot longer and the unit heats up quicker (imo). The obvious downside is that you now have to hold something the size of a lightsaber.

In the meantime I suggest getting two sets of two 18350 batteries (4 batteries total) and a quality charger. That way you can have one set charging and hot swap batteries when the other pair gets low on juice.

For chargers I own and suggest this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005UAI372

For batteries, most people go with AW branded units (AW just hand picks the best batteries from various companies and rebrands them) however I have had great success with the latest EFEST 18350 batteries which are slightly cheaper and easier to find than AWs.

To confuse you even more, if/when you step up to the 18650 batteries there are WAY more options available to you so things arent so clear cut. For example big boys like Sony and Panasonic make units which are insanely long lasting/powerful.... but thats info for a different post.

...oh and then there is W9's "The Core", which is a pass through system that allows you to run your Persei off of a wall outlet or AC adapter.

Tomorrow I'm sending my son up to the dispensary to grab some Eyeciss wax and some Strawberry Cough crumble.

http://www.slatercenter.com/products?category=Concentrate

My first run of Lemon Skunk should be done by tomorrow as well. I am going to make sure my batteries are fully charged and use the method of putting in .3, puffing, putting in more. I really want this to work out, LOL!

And thanks @Caligula for that battery info. I'm not going to stack two 7.4s, this thing is long enough as it is with the Hercules. I just want to buy either 2 of the 3.7s or one 7.4 that are BETTER than the batteries that came with it. I don't know anything about batteries, but I do know that with my MFLB the stock batts were crap and the new ones and a new charger kicked ass. I'm figuring this is a similar situation?
