Mister G

Deceptively Old Fart
Using a newly acquired Nubee Infrared Thermometer gun, I decided to take some measurements on the Infinity. Bear in mind, this is a surface reading tool and you can't get accurate info on the temperature of the airflow hitting the herb.

Pointing it at the infinity heater, down in the core, around the screen, etc, produced wildly fluctuating readings, swinging +/- over 100f. On control box setting 70v, I get readings of anywhere between 450f and 600f. When I point it at the core of my space heater, I get similar results, fluctuating temps, so heat engines give off a lot of different levels of heat.

So although I can tell that the voltage levels do make it hotter/cooler, I can't say with certainty how much and to what degree.

I can however, take accurate readings of the following:

Outside surface of the Infinity Body, while sitting on base:
at a level of 70v, room temperature 70f, humidity: winter/dry Northeast US
Bottom (near cord): 75f
At Cap Level: 90f
Where Body Flares: 200f

Flower Bowl - same room and environmental conditions, measurements taken within 3 seconds after bowl has been hit:
Interior of Female Joint: 311f
Outside of Female Joint: 186f
Nub Handle: 86f

Here's what the temp gun looks like:
31eFH%2B-MIxL._SY300_.jpg

Ok, I found some time to do my temperature study. As a reminder, I am using a Nubee Infrared Temperature gun which measures surface temperature. I will be standing above the Infinity heater at a slight angle not directly above, and taking a surface reading pointing the gun as directly into the center of the heater core as possible from 36cm, the optimal reading distance listed on the device. I will be using a ruler to make my distance as consistent as possible.

VERSA INFINITY INDEPENDENT TEMPERATURE STUDY

I will be taking ten readings in a row at 5v increments from 60v-80v and then at max setting and then averaging the ten for a composite temperature rating for each voltage level. I allowed 10 minute for the heater to warm up after setting it to the desired voltage. Results are listed below.

PLEASE NOTE: This is in no way a fully scientific study, but I attempted to keep conditions as controlled as possible. It would be best for another independent person to repeat this study for comparison.

Room temperature 70f dry humidity, Northeast USA 01.03.14

INFINITY HEATER SURFACE TEMP
Quick Reference Chart - Average temp reading from 10 consecutive scans:
  • 60v: 400.3F
  • 65v: 420.7F
  • 70v: 425.1F
  • 75v: 431.2F
  • 80v: 451.5F
  • MAX 112v: 517.2F
Again, these are surface readings, I am unsure how this relates to airflow temperature.

The one thing that jumps out to me is the large increase in temp from 60-65v and again from 75-80v with stability in the middle voltages. Not sure how to account for that except for a blip in the variability of the readings.

If you have a request for the average temp of a specific voltage level, let me know and I'll do my best to supply if I have time.

Detailed temp reading are below. First, a couple pics, one of the tablet I used as a timer and the ruler I used for distance, the second just a pic of the infinity.

Well, I took one for the team doing this experiment. As I was trying to take a picture of the Infinity mounted to my honeycomb/10arm perc Water Tool, it tipped and fell. The heater survived and is still functioning fine but the Water Tool as well as my Versa 18mm flower bowl bit the dust into pieces. I can still use the Infinity with the 14mm bowl I also ordered thank god, and have emailed Versa to see if another 18mm bowl is available. C'est la vie.

Well I finally got my infinity and was able to open the box. Pretty bummed out, they forgot to include my 14mm bowl and hookah bowl. Two of the more important pieces to me. I do have 18mm pieces, but I think the 14mm bowl would work better with the heater. As well, hookah was a big thing I wanted to try. I mean I did pay for each bowl so I did expect it. Anyways, aside from that let me give my initial thoughts and review.

The case that the vape comes in, is great, but its on the cheap side. I would say its more for storage then protection. Dont count on it protecting on a huge fall or smashing of the case. The unit itself looks nice, a little bigger than I imagined in being but it fits my glass so its fine. The tongs it comes with are sort of a joke, they are dollar store tongs. Not sure if they will even be used or how safe they are to use. Id just wait for it to cool down if I was going to need them. I also noticed I got a red joint on the inside, I was pretty sure we were suppose to get white. Its not the end of the world, but would have liked the white.

First Bowl/Concentrate adapter
I wanted to try the concentrate adapter first so I fired the unit up to max temp and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Loaded a dab up. The bowl is kinda lame. It doesnt seal very well, the rubber seals are very loose and just slide around. Placed the unit on top of it and tried taking a slow but steady inhale. I got a wispy hit, nothing to boast about. Tried to hit it with boost mode but couldnt find this hole that I was suppose to cover. I tried covering the inlet where the cord comes out but it didnt do much. Tried the third inhale and covered my hand on the top and it milked up a little more, but not much. By now the dab was pretty much all over the sides of the glass and I felt like it was waisted. Ill come back to this piece but I thought it was time for the next bowl
Rating: 5 out 10
Works, but not efficient. Need work or more testing of methods.

Second Bowl/18mm Flower Bowl
I loaded two pinches in to the bowl, covered the whole screen, prob around .1 max. Lowered the temp to 75v and took a rip. The whole tube milked up and I exhaled a huge cloud of vapor. Much better than the concentrate bowl. I did notice it didnt cook it too even so I mixed it, but it wasnt too bad. I tried again and covered the top of the vape and got an even thicker hit and noticed a scorched spot in the center. Mixed the bowl a few more times, did not "boost" it again, but it seems that you need to stir to get a nice even cook. Overall it worked but not ideally. It definitely is in beta mode and needs some. More work done to it.
Rating 6.5 out of 10
Works but scorched and doesn't cook evenly. Gets a bit too hot to touch and needs to be stirred. More testing needed

Third Bowl/Flower
Packed the same amount and dialed it down to 65v and got a better more even cooking but still wasn't ideal. I don't think I have boost mode either unless I'm suppose to just put my hand on top. Got a pretty even cooking but again you have to mix it each time and the unit is dangerously hot to to have. One thing though I don't think the bowls get too hot if you take the unit off after each hit.

Fourth Bowl/flower
This bowl I turned it down to 62 since it was still getting a little dark. This time I covered the top and took a huge rip and combust. It was disgusting and horrible. It's been a long time since this and I hope. It doesn't happen for a long time. Had to clean everything and get rid of the taste.

Some other things I wanted to note. Versa forgot to include my 14mm bowl and hookah bowl I paid for. Took them two days to get back to me to tell the they are out of stock and must have mixed up my order. They offered to refund me or wait for them to get back in stock. Pretty bummed out considering I have 6 hookahs and was really. Looking forward to trying it on one.

Another thing I noticed in my wires on the inside are browning and pretty heavily. I'm afraid it's just going to get worse. I will post more when I get a chance I just wanted to get something up in the mean time. I still need to take pictures of everything and take some videos.

Overall I feel the vape is at about a 6.5 out of 10 right now. Needs more work and testing tho.

Hey all! Sorry that I had to check out for the last couple weeks. Work is kicking my ass lately and leaving little time for anything else. I have, though, been using my Infinity every night, and but for a few minor complaints, I am very impressed. This device, I believe, might actually rival the original Cloud (no experience with the Evo) in terms of walloping your ass fast and furious.

I know many have already provided full reviews with pics and vid, so I am not sure I can add anything more, but I will address my overall impressions of the positives and negatives after two weeks' daily use.

The good: fast heat-up time, thick milk even with small amounts of herb, even heating, thorough extraction, easy tuning and responds well to lower and higher voltages, ability to get user high-school stoned in a matter of minutes.

The not-as-good: Sucker does get hot just a few inches above the air inlet holes, not hot enough to melt your skin (at least at 90v or less), but it is hot enough to make you regret touching it. With that said, I became accustomed to it pretty quickly and have not burnt myself after the first couple days of use. Aesthetically, I like the style of the body, but the original translucent glass, while thick, is rather unattractive.

I see Versa is looking into a handle of some kind, which would help a lot. My idea was to insulate the upper body up to the flare. I am not an engineer by any stretch, but my thought was to have a ceramic wall inside the glass wall to disperse the heat away from the glass. Also, while I like the glass stand, there is some play between the stand plug and the bottom air inlet of the Infinity. It might be cool to have a thin rubber coating on the stand plug both to provide some cushion and to remove the play.

I have not yet been able to try the concentrates bowl, but that will be coming soon. My choice of temp settings has been to either start out and keep it at 80-85 volts or start at 70 for a few hits and then up to 80-85 to finish it off. I have found that boosting is not only not necessary with herb, but it's not preferable as combustion is too easy. I can say that boost certainly does work (too well for herbs), but that's about all I can offer there. When I get some wax, I plan to play with that.

I do want a better body and something to deal with the inability to touch it anywhere except near the base of the unit, but after two weeks' solid use, I am loving it. The Infinity is a contender. No doubt about it.

TheDude, what if you kept it at 70 volts the whole session,
could you boost the herb hits without combusting?

grokit,
TheDude, what if you kept it at 70 volts the whole session,

I just now tried just that so I could give you an informed answer. Yes, you can do that, and I got two huge hits using boost on 70v. You still have to be careful, though, because you can combust if you boost too long, even at 70v. On the second hit, I damn near combusted. I charred the top, half a second more I would have combusted.

Really, though, I did get huge hits on boost, but I can get just as huge hits without it -- just requires a higher voltage and/or longer draw. I think boost is really more useful for concentrates when you need that mother fucker hot.

I should have added to my earlier post also that I love the herb bowl design on this thing, and the holder is a nice and very useful touch. The screen is perfectly placed to allow for small or large loads, but I would love to see a built-in honeycomb glass screen. I have not with herb had any problem with the glass bowl being too hot to handle. The little raised ring just where the screen is provides plenty protection from the heat and actually stays a little bit cooler than the little handle from my experience. Handle works just fine, too, though. Well-designed little piece.

Dude. Nice review.I hope it ties you're whole room together:)

I have had mine too for a few weeks too and I am expected to write a review so here goes.

I have had mixed results and a few issues.it takes time and I expect it will be a while before I make a firm yes or No on the versa.

There is an urgent issue with my unit that needs to be addressed promptly.

I may bore some of you to tears now but I want to add as much info as possible re: my experience with the versa infinity so apologies or thanks either way read or move on:cool::p

The shipped unit:

The kit arrived well packaged.the case was wrapped in bubble wrap and then a cardboard box surrounding the bubble wrap.

the case contained:

The Versa unit.
The power pack
The voltage converter
Two stirring sticks.
Silicone tipped plastic tongs
1 x 18mm herb bowl with handle
4 replacement herb bowl screens
1 tub of leianas skin balm

The case is foam lined but there were no cut outs for the individual parts.the infinity came wedged between the foam inserts with no extra packing to prevent parts clattering together and breaking.
The herb bowl was rattling about inside the case when I opened it on arrival but there was no damage to the unit or any of the contents.
the glass base had a deep scratch.thats about it

Look and feel of the unit:

bz9BTVr.jpg

It's a hefty unit.the unit alone measures nearly 8 " high x 2" wide.

Weight of unit and base roughly 1 1/2 lbs.

Design:

The Versa is similar to a log vape in design.but it uses a 110v dimmer style digital readout power supply to control voltage.the more voltage ,the more heat available.

Air path:

air is drawn up through the base of the unit through the heater cover then through and around the hollow element.
There is no thermostat in the Versa infinity.

There is a boost feature to increase vapor temperature which is a hole in the heater cover halfway up the heater.
To commence boost mode the operator palms the base of the versa blocking the standard air inlet to the heater and boost kicks in drawing air in halfway up and over the heater.
Not exactly revolutionary IMO.i feel boost performs more efficiently with less voltage so therefore I went with boost only.
Looking at the heater gets me thinking...the heater is very similar to the arizer EQ heater.is it an EQ heater maybe??

I should mention this serious failure without further ado.

The Urgent Issue
Danger High Voltage:whoa::tinfoil::uhh::worms:

I need to mention that versa were notified in email before the units were shipped out.i expressed my disatisfaction with the cable terminations on this mains powered vape.

In the picture above can be seen a power plug on the black cable between the versa and the ez bowl whip.the lead from the versa comes in two parts and uses a non shielded 5.5 x 2.1 style arrangement to join the two sections together.why it's not just one cable with a plug in the voltage box I don't know.
I have sustained :tinfoil:2 full voltage shocks :whoa: From the metal ring between the male and female connectors already in the last two days.firstly cleaning my vape area with windex and a sponge....ok I thought afterwards I guess its windex residue on my countertop until today I got belted again moving the cable in bone dry conditions.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had their back pulled in from shock like I've experienced.

WTF.which brings me to this why do manufacturers have to use full mains voltage with a vape when lower non life threatening voltages work fine.the EQ for example runs off a 19v PSU.it pisses me off...rant over.

Aesthetics:

I really like the glass work on the versa.the removable heater cover is a great feature.it makes installing or repairing different heater covers and heater configurations a snap.
One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get to the nut on the heater cover for removal of the heater etc.maybe a tube spanner of some sort.

I m not too keen on the sandblasted finish.i think maybe clear with say a slime marble or a logo would look better.the versa is a work of art,why hide it?
the base is clear and the versa is sandblasted.they don't match.
I understand Versa had issues with the enamel finishes they were due to ship ou and that is the reason got the vase like sandblasted finish.

seeing this is a beta unit, there are bound to be niggles etc. which will get ironed out in the finished design, so no biggie.we are here after all to find the ying and yang of the versa.

QNvf6S3.jpg

The first thing I did with my base .added rubber feet to stop it doing tortilla and dean on my countertop and an oring to dampen the crash when you drop the versa onto its base.the cotton wool I used to help block the air intake to the center of the heater.

Usage and Glass:

Honestly at 1lb in weight and the potential for burns It's too large and awkward for me to wield with a glass water pipe.i have used it with an Moby Ion and it's right in you're face taking a hit.I don t like the weight of the versa on the dewar joint of the Moby.it scares me a little.
I would be unlikely to use it with a 45 degree adapter in the ion for fear of the leverage weight cracking the dewar joint or tipping from balance issues.

maybe it's my history with the small size and versa-tility :p of Alan's heat island I dunno, but the heat of the Versa coupled with the weight, I can see folks, especially medical patients dropping it on the deck long term.

FMoJE3y.jpg

Infinity with an 18mm f/f adapter with cloud ez bowl in vapor bros straight hose adapter, silicone hose and an EQ mouthpiece to finish off the whip with some comfort.

This setup sits on my countertop and takes the mouthpiece exactly where I need it.

Direct draw

Direct draw is my favourite way to vape.i find I lose flavour vaping with water pieces.i may use the Versa with a hydra tube but only for fun and games.the same goes for the Ion which diffuses even more stealing flavour and actives.

I have found my niche though using the versa on direct draw.i am getting good flavour using momofthegoons marshmallow method at 55 -60v.
thats a method of drawing some hot air in and adding cooler air during the hit to adjust the temps and prevent scorching.I still haven't found a reliable steady voltage setting where I can hit it without adding cooler air to get good flavour.its either too cool or too hot.
Don't get me wrong.I can get the Versa to whitewall any of my bubblers in 3 seconds flat dense vapor every time.im looking for flavour though primarily and trying to lock in the correct temps for flavour.

The reason I wanted the Versa was for the glass air path and the potential flavour upgrade that might be available using it over my other vapes.i have been experiencing beautiful flavour with the HI and more recently the upgraded
Lotus.both stellar experiences on direct draw.

Bowl configurations:

I tried the stock herb bowl with an eq screen and the herb bowl with a cloud ez bowl.i tried lots of variations including some posted here with the many adapters I have.
In the end for direct draw I settled using an 18mm FF adapter and a vapor bros. whip adapter with an ez bowl inserted into the hose adapter
That setup got me as close to the heater as possible.the screen on the base of the ez bowl right above the heater helps to deflect the heat and evens out hot spots in the basket.

Boost vs Standard heat mode:

AaZeV4d.jpg

Boost hole visible in the heater cover center of picture

I use it on boost all the time.I found that using without boost I got a dark patch right in the center of the herb bowl.the hole in the hollow heater super heats the air passing through it which IMO affects heat equilibrium and chars the center of the bowl contents .i like steady even hits starting low heat and keeping flavour as long as possible before reaching popcorn stage.
So I blocked the base air inlet with cotton wool and I use boost now only

The boost feature works best and is more efficient, shorter air path ,tried and tested in log vapes and the seventh floor series vapes.

I am looking at getting a heater cover made with 4 smaller air inlets just above the base of the heater.i have spoken to Chris already regarding this.

Recommendations and upgrades:

Get the wiring and shocks sorted Versa.I am seeing copper strands unsheathed inside units and now repeated 110V shocks on the inline plugs assembly.please ensure you're customers have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Maybe consider a power source similar to the Arizer Extreme Q @ 19v .thats a winner and you will sleep better at night.

A proper wire strain relief and grommet on the infinity where the wiring passes through the glass body and not a knot in the cable.

Reduce heat emissions to the outer body.

Like dude I agree an oring or sponge buffer between the base of the unit and the stand.

A clear unit would be nice I think to match the base.

An 18mm glass male mouthpiece for use with an F/F adapter.

Heater cover modification:

To help prevent off gassing from hot wiring into the air path.

Utilisise boost mode only which is more efficient and would require less voltage for use is my choice for the versa.I would recommend air inlets just above the bottom of the heater at 3 6 9 and 12 o clock (or maybe less to be determined in house)on the circumference of the heater cover and do away with palming and air entering the bottom of the unit and flowing over wiring to the heat source.

I would like to see a full glass heater or an external heater like the cloud to achieve an all glass air path.

I would settle for a SS screen in the air path

Not wishing to stomp on anyone's party, these are just my personal thoughts.

That's me done

:peace:

Holy smokes! No, never had any shocks from the cord. That would be something the Dude would not be able to abide. I will say that the cord is kind of thin, and the male/female connection about six inches from the base has caught on the table edge several times when I've picked up the Infinity to take a hit. Although the ability to disconnect has been convenient in some ways, it's concerned me that I might slowly wear that connection down if it keeps hanging up on surrounding obstacles.

You should contact Chris about that problem. Sounds like a quality control issue but one you shouldn't mess around with...unless you are going for a Pavlov's Stoner Dogs kind of thing. LOL

Ha ha yeah the shocks.. I didn't t take it apart or anything.the shock was from handling the cable to move it out of the way.
I m just chatting to versa now by email.

So here's my fix.some 10mm silicone over the electrical joint until I figure out what's going wrong.helps to hold it snug and no back pulling shocks:whoa::rip:

Pavlov, that shit cracks me up Man:razz:

Like GSH mentioned 50-60v on boost seems to be the spot for sweet flavour.im enjoying the experience.the effects are bright n breezy at 55v.

my throat feels a little congested though compared to my other vapes.i expect it's from the large hits.

Not to worry, a few hours pass and my congestion usually goes.

Maybe I just need to cough.

I wanted to say that in my review as well. A rubber ring or some sort of rubber stopper to prevent the user from dropping it to fast on the stand and damaging anything and to just create I think, a better overall stand.

Im going to have to test with some lower volt and using boost mode only. Correct me if I'm wrong but boost mode is just covering the top of the device?

Anyone else have any success with the concentrate bowl?

Well Versa shipped out the hookah bowl I should have it this week and be able to make a video. In the meantime here are a few pictures and a video, I still have a few more videos and pictures to upload as I was in a rush and wanted to at least post a few.

Does anyone else have the cord turning brown on the inside too. Not sure if its something I should worry about?

The video below is one inhale at 56v with a colie stemline.

My cord looks the same and hasn't browned any more than when I first received it. Nice hit!

EDIT: Just took a nice milky hit through my Itza sans water. Twas wonderful!I'm also working on a couple other things. More to come. :science:

EDIT EDIT: The following paragraph was done at my own risk and NOT advised.

Completely dismantled my unit and drilled a more pronounced cup into the heater. It seems to have help eliminate the hot spot from the herb at close range. I did a dry hit through my Itza and it tasted great at 65v. I have now added a heat resistant tape that only adheres to itself. It's only good up to 500F and I haven't notice any offgasing. I am kinda putting myself at risk I suppose but I wanted to see if the tape helped with the hot glass issue at all. I'll post a video and pictures with this setup soon. I have one more idea I may try if I'm feeling ballsy enough. Cheers! Back to the lab. Haha.

EDIT x3: Tape didn't hold up at 65v. Oh well, it was worth a shot. I have other ideas in mind. I also have an idea for putting the heater on the outside but it may make the outside of the glass even hotter. It's fun to play around though.

I would reeeeeeeally like to see them change the temperature settings on this guy. From what I gather the lowest setting is at 395 F, which is above the heat of vaporization of benzene. One of my favorite things about my Arizer Solo is that I can keep the temperature low enough that I don't inhale carcinogens. That said, this vape looks gorgeous. If the temperature settings can be tweaked I'll definitely be hopping on board.

I'm sure it goes lower. i think it goes down into the mid 20's in voltage.

@Madcap, How did you get the red nut on the heater cover loose?.I m scared in case the spanner slips:doh::mental:...bye bye glass
I don't know if I should be telling people. Although no official instructions have come out yet. This is strictly my technique to be done at the users risk. If you mess it up don't expect Versa to cover any repairs. That's my disclaimer. Now here's how I did it. When your unit is completely cool, grab the heater itself and try turning it counter clockwise. If it moves a little you should be able to use the wooden skewer to slowly back the nut off. I'll post pics or a vid of how to do it. Again this is at your own risk.

Versa at 54v. While it doesn't whitewall the tube, the hit was tasty, large and effective. About a half of an ELB cap worth of material.

So it was your mod made the glass cool enough to touch?
I understand that you were able to r&r the heater, but not sure what the mod is exactly.
:hmm:

How can I know if the heater of my Infinity is ok??
The VCU(voltage control unit) as you know died.
I didn't mail it back for repair yet. I want to be sure that the heater still works so I don't need to mail again.
Is there any other solution??
Can it be plugged direct 110V??
How can I do that?? Safety issues??
I'm guessing will be better just to plug during use and always leave unplugged.
I think I read somewhere the heater is 60W, so it means it's like a 60W lightbulb , right??
Any good safe industrial dimmer will work?? Links?? How to connect?? Etc etc?? Safety issues???
I kind of miss the fastness and readiness of the Infinity, plus those huge boost hits :)
TIA.
Stay vaped...

Zangano, please don't do this. There are serious safety issues involved with working on 110VAC power, and too many variables to make this kind of fix a safe option.

The mod was drilling into the end of the heater core to give the end a cone shape and thus, in theory, give a wider hot air path at a closer distance. I was thinking of cutting the heater in half length wise to move the heat further up to, in theory, move the heat concentration up and provide a larger cool area to handle the unit. I think cutting it in half will destroy the complete circuit and cause the heater to quit working. None of it is revolutionary.

I have been finding the 50-60v range with boost to be perfect for my needs. You can pulse the boost for wispier hits or boost the whole time for milking glass. The unit is cool enough to touch up to the flared bit too. I am still using a dome screen in the original flower bowl, this seems to be working well :)

Has anyone else noticed that the Infinity seems to produce more condensed vapor gunk on glass pieces than other vapes? My Cloud+ never made my glass this dirty lol!

Hi versa testers, do you really like the design of this vape? cause imo it looks like a funerarium piece of art!
When it stops to work you can put flowers into, it's a good deal!

Wow dead thread :whoa:!

My G1 arrived intact today, even though the case had burst open on the side that wasn't taped.
It is indeed the infinity body, I was hoping for the more compact edition but am thinking that it may have worse "too hot to touch issues" so I'm not that bummed about it. But yes it is pretty large. I don't mind clear or frosted glass for the unit or the base, I guess I prefer the frosted but mostly would have liked the two units to match. I didn't expect or care about the air inlet not being on the base, and then I noticed that it isn't there on the infinity bases either which was surprising to me. The G1 and infinity do appear to be exactly the same with the exception of the analog controller.

What I received is what is pictured: the plano box, infinity unit with base and whip attachment, the flower bowl, the optional hookah bowl, a couple of stir sticks, and the wall-wort style analog controller with an extension cord that can be placed inline between the controller and the unit. No tongs were included which I don't mind, but I was really hoping for that keck clip which wasn't included either. Also I had thought I had requested a white cap, no biggie.

Using a bic lighter for scale, this thing is big!

The whip attachment arrived with two silicone rings on it,
so I took the smaller one off and used it to cushion the versa on the base:

The tape seems to be put there for the same purpose,
but the silicone ring is more effective so the tape will be removed.
I'll probably glue the ring onto the base because it's a little too big to fit tightly.

I won't be able to test this out for a few days,
but wanted to post that everything arrived intact

I don't think it needed the air inlet since the boost heater couldn't use it. Did they give you tracking info or did this just fall on your lap.
