@Quetzalcoatl do you have a collection of different stems?

The Shorty I don't like before bed only day time.
A full load is better.

Water Path with a GonG before bed is best.

I use room temperature water.
I need to try your warm water method.
What temperature?

@ataxian Hot as it comes out of my faucet :) if you prefer cleaner water (you know how hard our SoCal water is...) heat but make sure not to put it in near boiling temps!! You will probably break our glass like that!! (Thermal stress!) If you want I can get some temps later of how how it comes out for me.

I don't have many stems, like you I prefer full stems but will use a dome screen for reduced load size. Currently have both sock stems and the pvhes gong in 18mm.

I remember reading about old ceramic units would work on PA with no battey at the timer pepole said that it dint work with m1a solos

I tested it with my m1a4 and it fucking only works :) so any one with a Bad battery you can still use a PA

Great news you didn't remove those screws holding the heater in. As Pipes so correctly points out, without them the two halves can separate breaking the thin leads off destroying the heater (it's cemented together inside).

Yes, all the 'old style' units I've tested (three or four?) run OK with no battery on PA (but not a bad one installed.....) which is good, but I think the "any one with a Bad battery you can still use a PA" is not correct. I don't think the newer 'can use while charging' version will do it since they need a partially charged battery to provide the rest of the current (the charger isn't enough alone and they don't seem to treat the PA as anything more than an under voltage charger by the reports we're getting back).

If a 'tool savvy' owner of the new version could test this and let us know, I think that would be interesting and useful information? TIA to anyone who does......or even considers it.

Not that I think many would want to ever pull the failing battery out, but it may be another strike against the new design, no matter how minor? Not that we have any options for new units......

@Quetzalcoatl do you have a collection of different stems?

No doubt he does, and you'd have a much bigger collection yourself if you didn't have this 'thing' about breaking glass all the time........

Life for you is one never ending Jewish wedding isn't it?

You are rite it would be real cool if some one could check if the new ones can do this as well for future reference

I think arizer made a really bad move if they pulled the PA and you can only charge and vape

Got my Solo yesterday and had some sessions with it last night...I have to say this thing put me on my butt. I was not expecting that. I went from combusting two good sized bowls in one sitting to get really medicated, to taking 3 hits on level 4 on the Solo and feeling similar effects but even smoother, and on top of that AMAZING TASTE every hit!!!

I worry a little bit about how loose the glass adapters are..neither are tight fitting and have a nice wobble when in place. I noticed that when turned on (level 4 after a few hits) it gets worse, the hook adapter actually swivels around freely 360 degrees if I tilt the unit in my hand around. At one point I was laying in bed and bringing the Solo to my mouth was kind of like trying to catch a bendy straw in a glass of water that gets away from you sometimes. Also, I noticed with both adapters, the loading part of the bottom where it meets the heating chamber would move up and down with ease. So while it's in my mouth, I actually am not sure as to where it is best seated...It can sit really far down and I have kind of bad airflow, or hold it up a bit via grip of my lips and get better airflow. I am not actually sure which is the correct way as it seems to just freely move about so much. It really is like drinking out of a straw and the solo is your cup, the heating chamber is that last bit of water you are trying to sip out between cubes of ice. I don't have a better way to explain it!

I bought my unit on eBay from a top rated seller. In their description they claimed to have the latest models being shipped to them every two weeks. In the description they also claim that their units boast the latest features like better airflow and being able to use while charging. Then I open up the instructions that came with the unit I received and it states something like "This unit can not be used while charging, you need to get a different charger for that". So I wonder.

I really really like the Solo, I was especially delighted at the size and ease of use, as well as instant and powerful effect with little herb. It's just the straw effect that kinda makes me feel a bit off about it.

Maybe all that I have stated is completely normal and I am just griping

That's normal with the loose stems .
Try putting your 1st finger on the stem , to steady it in place
before hitting .

What's the model # , located at the bottom ?
They could be Old instruction manuals .
Just try it to see if it has Pass-thru , Charge and heat it up .

@ataxian and @samirfuzzywuzzy attaches glass chillums
for easier inhales . see their pics
I'm cheap , I use these for dry hits all the time .
They really work , they're the mp for my Omicron Lite .

Jewish wedding! LOL!

That's exactly what it's like!
If I did not break so much glass I would need a small storge unit for all my glass. Water Pipes, Bubblers, Ash Collectors, Down Stems, GonGs,
Bent Stems, Straight Stems, Stock,
PHVES you name it I've broken it!
Edit: (adapters)

My counters & floor are padded with EVA and I keep my glass in cases.
Recently I broke a glass piece everyday for a week by accident.

The seal under the cap of all three of my SOLO's keeps me from breaking stems so much.

The travel tubes are a big help as well. The last 18mm GonG I broke was replace by @Stu and I keep it in a travel tube to protect it.

When you coined the phrase "JEWISH WEDDING" it really resonated with me!

Think I'll add more EVA!
Maybe all that I have stated is completely normal and I am just griping
TIP: The Seal under the cap works fantastic!
I like the PHVES with this combination.
Today after I upgrade my flooring I will try my stock stems again with the seal.

Hey since I broke my PVHES stem yesterday, was thinking about getting a kind ash cache(ash tray), or a tap dat ash tray. You think it will help preventing the stems from breaking when emptying out material? Does anyone here have one and use it with their stems? Yea I've been thinking about building some type of cabinet for all my goodies, but then there is a simple shelf ...sigh

You don't need to mess around with sessions extensively; battery lifespan is a pretty easy thing to figure out. Unless you mean to say you have an old Solo and would get the newer M1E1? In either case, @OF made a very good case against why the new "feature" isn't actually good for the battery... think he mentioned it once or twice at length within the last 10-15 pages?

@GenYHippie, yes temperatures play a role in what actives are released, you're looking for CBD and CBN more or less for the sleepy sedating stone.
So the Solo user has another choice. He can heed the advice of the "experts" and possibly extend battery life 2X or even 3X. Or he can just charge it and use it without regard to what may happen to the battery. I did not get a chance to see how long the battery will last, as my first Solo died, so I'm on a new battery in my replacement. With my old unit I used the PA when indoors, ran the Solo down to level one or so and recharged till just before the green light stopped blinking.
Now that the PA functions like a regular power supply, that option of extending the battery life by using it less is gone. Thankfully users are reporting are generally reporting battery life of two years or more. With replacemnt and even up graded batteries, even better performance can be had.....

Yes, and yes. I have the TapDatAsh... hate the name, but love the function. Just tap your stem once or twice on the knocker and it's empty. Very useful for anyone using glass stems or bowls of any kind. There's even a place to discuss it - http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/tap-dat-ash.6161/ ... not that there's much going on there.

I've tapped out my stems for over 3 yrs in an old glass or stone ashtray, and have 'never' broken a stem (I tap straight down and not girly like either)
Well... I managed to stress crack my straight stem the other day trying to get some tubing around a metal drip tip (from an ecig)... it wasn't even that much pressure, yeah I should have taken the drip tip out to hook it up and then put it in...

Happy to put a smile on your face, Bro. Kind of returning the favor, really, Lord knows you've done it for me often enough.......

There's another option, one I still suggest, don't recharge until you've discharged down to one more session after no LED level lights show (typically 6 to 8 sessions for me). Again, it's the number of recharges (and the terminal voltage) that's the issue. Recharging after every use is an up front battery killer IMO. Only thing worse is leaving it plugged in 'all the time'???

But I do agree, loss of the external power ("PA") function is unfortunate (although I think understandable).

And I sure wouldn't go putting any confidence in battery life from the OLD system....... Lifespan issues are still a perhaps a year down the road? I thing we'll be fortunate (and I'll be wrong in my prediction) if we match what now is routine. I think the 'constant rechargers' will die first, followed by the 'every time I use it' and then 'I run it down before charging it back up fully' to those of us obsessed folks out here in the cheap seats.

Does anyone have suggestions for temp level on the Solo for night time sessions? Am trying to figure out best mode for some help getting to sleep. Last night on my first try I tried at level 4, took 4 pulls almost back to back and some anxiety set in :/

Here is one of those little useless souvenir comming from cuba. Usually useless :D I tap my abv there before dumping in my cvault. Its nice to see different colors/spendness of my abv, plus the colors matches

Did the same thing, I feel like the wooden tray ^ would cause the same problem for me being:

Guess I am going to go with tap that ash like sir @Kief suggested above. 11 bucks shipped on amazon seems well worth it to prevent this and making me angry for couple hours ..which will lead into 3 weeks because of PV slowness and out of stockness:mad::nope:

If you use water paths vapor becomes much less harsh with hot/warm water as opposed to cold. Nice warm hydrated vapors, though might still aggravate your throat. YMMV.

Thank you, unfortunately no cook gear for me. I have $25 to my name to last me a week an a half. Maybe next month sometime I can get something

I worry a little bit about how loose the glass adapters are..neither are tight fitting and have a nice wobble when in place. I noticed that when turned on (level 4 after a few hits) it gets worse, the hook adapter actually swivels around freely 360 degrees if I tilt the unit in my hand around.
Hmm how funny mine were really tight (also bought on ebay). The straight stem wont even go into a cold unit I have to let it warm then set the glass against it for a few seconds before it fits in entirely. After several uses ic an now get the curved one in a cold unit. The only loose one for me was the bowl attachment. Funny how glass pieces can be huh?

I have a little tool that I use to remove material from my stems. I don't usually tap it out because clinking glass makes me nervous :uhoh:

I don't pack mine full but I do the same to get out my screens. Right now its just a little metal cuticle pusher from a travel kit but I imagine a dabber tool would work well to wiggle a load out

Ok , I'll admit it .
Sometimes it takes a few tries before I grasp it .

So I ' Can Not ' use the old PA with the newer Pass-thru units
to charge and use . But only the reg charger will work , including my old charger that I have , I'm guessing .

But I can still use the PA as a bypass to portable battery power .
Got it ...I hope .

I use coffee cups to store my ABV , then dump out .
I've also included the Omi-tip and my broken/chipped Gong .
Ouch !
