For Sativa, I'd have to say my favorite thus far has been A.T.F., or Alaskan (sometimes Matanuska) Thunder Fuck. Absolutely potent, straight to the dome, heavy-eyed bliss. Great citrusy sweet-tart flavor as well. I just wish it wasn't as rare as it is here in NorCal.

For effect I used to really like big bang,
it seems to have been usurped by white widow these days which is awesome.
And for flavor I love blueberry,
so yeah I can't wait to get my paws on the cross between the two variants!

Great minds, and all that. There's a couple old timers up in the magic schoolbus in the hills around here that have supposedly kept the strain alive, though I haven't seen it come down in about 3 years myself.
I would have to add "the Dawg" to my list of faves, even though it is fairly new to me. Every time I pick up a variety that includes the dawg, I wish that I had grabbed all dawg. Some kinda chemdawg/og x.
I think what your referring to here is what the yanks call "beasters" if your getting what my mates get. To the untrained eye it looks like nice bud. It's very dense, sometimes even sparkling with what appear to be crystals. It lacks any characteristic MJ smell and appears to be soaked in some kind of chemical to facilitate quick drying. It doesn't burn properly either. Under inspection with a 30X scope you'll see the trich's have been badly damaged all smeared up against the bud without even one trich in tact. It kinda gets you high, but not really.
It's clear this weed is commercially grown purely by people out to profit. I refuse to purchase it or even vape it if offered for free. Unfortunately I have a mate who always gets it and thinks it's the shit just because it's comes in rock hard nugs and looks like it's packed with crystals.
Apart from that my other mate got some good stuff from the old SR, some Outdoor grown Mango (old school aussie version) which was full of flavor and a hydro AK47 x Jack Herer which was very good for pain relief and sleeping. Think it came outta SA. Wish I had some more.

Well, I'm in the UK so don't feel too bad about getting mediocrity, we get that a lot too.
However sometimes the more expensive, better stuff gets through.
Strains of note:
Forgotten first love: Stonehedge ( http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Stonehedge/Sagarmatha_Seeds/ )
Not seen this for over a decade but it tasted literally delicious and was such a strong one brought so much joy.
Current popular fave: Amnesia seems to pop up a lot these days and it's lovely and strong. Mmmmm.
Well loved all rounder: NYC Diesel or anything with Diesel in the title seems to have a uniquely lovely taste. Only tend to see it in the 'Dam though.
New legendary discovery: Train Wreck was the last strain that I discovered in the G house coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Wish I had gone there first as it was one of the only strains that really blew my mind. Kept going back to get more. Mmmmmm niiiiiiiice.

We had a real blip in the UK a few years ago when the Government/Police launched a bust the growers policy with the slogan if they drove the price high and the quality drops it will be a success. It certainly did drive the quality down as weed impregnated with sand/grit/glass/solvents etc flooded the UK.
We also used to get that soapbar rubbish being touted as double zero. Yeah right I remember 15 years ago being offered 9 oz of soap at £78!

Rubidoux Dank - Daytime, Best tasting. (may be Dispensary specific).
El Chapo - Nighttime, Best tasting. (may be Dispensary specific).
Dream Queen - well rounded, balanced...
OG Kush - Sleep time
Sour Diesel - uplifting, seriously happy stuff!
Superman OG Organic - didn't make me fly, dont recall spectacular flavor... hmmm, or effect for that matter.... but hell, the names really cool!
