I like it! So is it safe to assume you have had a change of heart on holding a bubbler over Herbie?? I actually picked up another tube a couple weeks ago because it works so well for my routine.

Lots of talk about taste degradation or lack thereof with this vape. I think the difference here is the Herbalizer's ability to consistently maintain its temperature, even cooking, and a temperature limit of 229C/445F.

I think that most of us are accustomed to vaporizers that encourage the use of temperatures higher than 229C/445F. With many of these vaporizers higher temperatures are required to produce big clouds because the heating systems are unable to keep a steady temperature when the user is drawing heavily.

Let's take a classic whip vape like the SSV for example. When the user draws through the whip, air enters the system through a hole in the heater cover and is heated as it passes around the ceramic stick heater. It then exits through the hole at the end of the heater cover nozzle and passes through the herb in the attached wand. It's an effective system for producing big clouds, especially with standard heater cover's narrow airstream profile, however it's also known for quickly producing the "popcorn" flavor.

I believe that this is due to high (well over 229C/445F) temperatures being used, often out of necessity as the heater quickly cools during a big hit. Its tendency to cook the herb unevenly also creates a mix of cooked (some might say overcooked) herb and barely cooked herb after the bowl is stirred, further adding to the popcorn flavor.

TL;DR: I think that the "popcorn" taste is largely a result of high temperatures, and most vaporizers are used in a way that (at some point in the session) heats the herb above 229C/445F.

But do you get that popcorn taste?
I get the popcorn taste. At max temp after a number of full bags.

Edit: Not the taste like you get with a pax though. Its more of a overcooked taste you get with vaping at the end of the bowl. I just finished off vaping a bowl from lastnight. The taste isnt as pronounced as with other vapes like my solo or a pax.

Edit#2 One thing i will say is you get the great taste of your bud for much longer then i ever had with any other vape. Even bags 3-4 taste great. Not like the solo where only the first few hits you get that great taste.

Looks like I might be a few weeks without my go-to strain so it is nice to have the herbalizer around. Allows me to get a more acceptable result from a wider variety of strains.
Interesting.. And stickstones exp as well. Reading this tread leads me to think vaping at low temps might get a sativa effect out of an indica and vice-versa. I cant contribute much with my solos exp, but I would be curious about knowing about others exp with that . Tx for feeding my inner:science:

Towelie is chillin' next to the Herbie... Lol

EDIT: Thanks guys! It sounds like the Herbie definitely was well thought out. Bags taste good as the first bag or does it diminish after 2-3 bags? I always use high quality herbs that's why I want to know. With the volcano the taste goes away faintly at the 3rd bag IIRC.

And shepherds we shall be,for Accuracy & Discovery
For all of those with water tools:

I was talking to Bob today about the concern expressed here regarding putting water tools directly above the bowl. He showed me some CAD renderings of what is going on in that area. I have a pretty good idea of how things are laid out.

DISCLAIMER: This is just my opinion. I could be wrong. If you mess up your unit, it is not my fault.

First off, the bulb isn't directly exposed under the bowl.
Second off, H20 evaporates at temps well below operating temp.
Third off, droplets would have difficulty actually physically making down to the area where the bulb is, if the don't get boiled by that point.

So, my *OPINION* is that, unless you dump your SuperDoubleTripleGiantGulp™ cup on the Herbie, I doubt a little splash back from a WT situated right above the bowl is of concern.

Again, do at your own risk, but as long as one is carful, my impression is the risk is minimal.

Nice info, thanks @nigel!

My bent 18mm GonG adapter came in the mail today... now I just need my bubbler to be delivered. I also have a 14/10 reducer, an 18/14 reducer, and a VapeXhale glass mouthpiece on the way, which I'll use to create a direct draw dry vapor set up.

Has anyone been able order to replacement whips from Herbalizer? It says "sold out" on the website...

I ordered whips, screens and some aroma pads a while ago, always good to have spares.
I think @Vitolo also ordered some spares.

And come to think of it, so far ordering spares has been my only slightly negative experience with Herbalizer. Unfortunately they use UPS for shipping and anyone in Canada is going to get nailed by extra costs!
This was my example:
$34 for spare parts
$24,95 shipping
And then the UPS bill for $42!!!!
So over $100 for $34 worth of spares...

I did notify Herbalizer about this but they seemed to avoid answering it very effectively...
So not really a negative but more of an inconvenience and a costly exercise.

Ouch!! Good to know. Looks like replacement whips will be coming for Planet Vape for me. I won't be using the oil pads as I have better methods for consuming oil. The herbalizer just doesn't get hot enough for me to use it for my oil. It's my current favourite for herbs though.

Thats's a bummer dude. For that I reason I refuse to buy anything that is sent by UPS. I've been burned pretty badly in the past so from here on it's USPS or bust. But your $42 bill specifically seems pretty extreme, and i'd at least call UPS and see WTF is up and if there was an error made at all.

I'm taking today off and just hanging with Herbie!

Anyone know where that one post was that had the diagram of the internals? I can't find it in this thread anymore.

I'm having a real 'blew my mind' moment realizing I can have my session and then leave the room while Herbie freshens the room with the scent of my choice for as long or as little as I want and then he will shut himself down. That's fucking crazy!

I'm sitting here looking at six different bags of herbs I've had for over a year and only used once (mint, eucalyptus, etc.). We're gonna re-break the seal on those today, too. And a couple of oils.

So I already started today. Started at 290 and chilled for a while. I saw nothing and felt nothing but calm and relaxed. That's cool. A little while later I bumped it up to 300 and started to see a little and it just keep hitting like that, so I obliged. Noticing a slight change in focus. So I think keeping it at 290 is a must for this strain if I'm going to avoid the gaffes. We'll see what the next temp brings...

So most vapes that you crank up to high temp, you can dial them down but it can take a VERY long time for it to come down to that temp. Even my old VX Cloud, if I had it dialed up high (say 3:00) and then wanted to dial it back down to 10:00 for the next strain, due to the excellent heat retention would take extremely long to really cool back down to the lower temp (even though the light went green). Are you guys saying that the precision of the Herbie is that you can lower temp and very quickly be there because of the nature of the heating technology? I haven't read too much into this thread, but that's the feeling i'm getting, and if so I think that's incredible and appreciate more why you guys are saying that it's a game changer.

That's absolutely insane. No wonder you guys rave about it so much. Thanks guys, I should be able to try it out on Sunday thanks to @lazylathe. My hope is like some of you have said is to cure my VAS. Sounds like this is going to completely change the way I medicate.

I also think the company and their vids are just so pro. And that whistling tune is simply intoxicating.

NEW APPROACH
It is spoken of in the videos... and in our Herbalizer Manual.
I would now like to take claim to being the first to accomplish...
A "Free Style Session" (actually a couple of them.)
Not just a breath or two, but from green to brown.
I did not go into smaller quarters.. just remained in the Vape room, where
Herbie usually is... and where I prefer to do my work.
The first session lasted 15 minutes.
I was set at 390... and kept head over the bowl.. by 1.5- 2 feet.
I used the fan assist of course, so I had to restart the fan as I went.... but I also stopped the fan if I got great lungfulls and was holding breath.
I allowed the area to cloud up, and I breathed deeply of the ambient air.
When I saw beautiful fog rising from bowl, I would hold face more directly over the "Sauna-like waves of Vapor"
When the herb made little vapor and smelled neutral, session one was done.
I was well medicated Free Style.
I refilled the bowl, and Free Styled it at 415º
Foggier... and I got more medicated.
12 minutes this time.
I will not repeat the procedure regardless of the fun..
I do not want the walls of the vape room to become coated in this manner....
and I after two sessions realized that I was noticeably "tacky" to the touch, around my face and mouth.
I did NOT wear my glasses..., as glasses are rarely made of glass these days, but rather plastic, and I did not want to get the oils on plastic, that may or may not respond well to Iso cleansing.

Hello All,
I have had my Herbalizer since Tuesday evening and I am prepared to give my initial review. I am not the most technical person so this is going to be pretty basic. As far as vaporizers are concerned my knowledge has been limited to the portable market, however, I did own a volcano in college.

The herbalizer has changed the way I look at medicating and has made me confident that I will never have to go back to combusting. I have never encountered a device that conserved my meds even haflway as well as Herbie. Since I opened the package and turned it on, I have only vaped two bowls each .1 in weight. Keep in mind that it is now Thursday afternoon and I have had close to 7 full sessions on those two loads. The taste of the vapor is unmatched in any device I have ever used except for the Cera LL the major difference being I have yet to encounter bad tasting vapor. Another aspect of this device that stands out to me is warm up time. As soon as I turn Herbie on, it is already waiting for me and goes as far as to suggest I continue vaping at my last known temperature, INCREDIBLE! It has already been mentioned but I will reiterate, when you want to significantly lower the temperature, it takes less then 30 seconds which in my experience is totally unheard of. The next feature that blows me away is the precise temperature control. I have been following the temperature scale laid out somewhere in this thread and have been able to use my medicine for specific ailments which I have never had the chance to experience before. There are certain types of strains (sativa based) which have been known to give me serious anxiety.....I was able to try one of those strains last night and at 320 degrees I had a completely different experience.(ZERO anxiety).

One aspect I would like to address is the issue of the fan. I have read this thread from start to finish and I remember there being a lot of talk about how loud the fan is. Take it with a grain of salt, but my apple laptops fan makes more noise then Herbie! I actually had to turn everything off in my apartment that was making noise, and lean closer to Herbie in order to hear any sound. IMHO the fan is a non issue. I will say that the fan used to fill bags is a little noisier then the fan used to keep Herbie at operating temp).
The only thing I have found to be slightly annoying is that every particle in the air seems to stick to the whip. I spend more time cleaning the silicone tubing then every other action with Herbie combined. Also, the smell. After having a session and closing the lid, the smell of the bowl does permeate through the shell and into the surrounding area. The only way I see to get around this would be to remove the bowl from the unit but at $70 (and sold out!) I do not want to take the risk of misplacing it. Lastly, I have found that I have no idea when my meds have been spent. I have read in this thread that most people take lack of vapor production as a main indicator, but I have been able to raise the temperature at this point and produce more.

Finally I will close by saying that I could not be happier with my purchase and have zero regrets spending as much money on the Herbalizer as I did. I did not even know what the Herbalizer was until last week when I stumbled a conversation about it in another thread while researching for a home unit, But I could not be more grateful to all the people on FC as well as the hard working folks at Herbalizer!

@stickstones Is this the post you were looking for? Or this?

No...but thanks for playing! It was a diagram of the internals...a partial cross section.

@thegoo -- glad you're liking it! Get brushed up on the aromatherapy options for making the room smell better when you are done. maybe stick something int he top of the bowl while in storage if it has a load in it.

I was lol with vitolo getting all lathered up for his date! One sticky vitolo, please. What an epic session...i want that!

regarding popcorn taste...it was always my opinion that more conduction led to more popcorn taste. i have no proof, just anecdotal, but i have always found my conduction vapes to be more prone to the popcorn spent taste at the end of a load than convection vapes. This one is the best at eliminating it.

Ya know, I used to love the taste and smell of popcorn, that is, until I came here to FC. :(

Hey Goo,

What we were talking about was when you are at the top temp and there is no more vapor.
This is when your bowl "may" be spent.
What i usually do is empty the bowl onto a square of paper and crumble the vaped herb into tiny particles.
Reload into the bowl and have a last hit at the highest temp.
When the vapor stops, your bowl will be spent!

Nice review and so good to see another FC'er with Herbie Love!
