ssv pickup

whats up folks, haven't spent a lot of time lurkin but i wanted to take a sec to share my new ssv and its setup. i used to own a vb i bought from a friend, but when i lost it to a LEO, i bought a new one with a ceramic element and the handsfree setup. other than that, i've spent plenty of time with a classic volcano (solid value) and a herbalaire.

now i sold the vb hf, and bought a ssv. i'd heard that of the whip style vapes (my preference for many reasons) the ssv is held in high regard (possibly the best but im not sure). it certainly proved the easiest to acquire (you must talk to tokinglx i highly recommend him) for someone in the usa. before this i had looked into buying the aromed and the herborizer, both sphere and pipe setup. my experience with my vb taught me that water filtration is incredibly desirable in some situations. after realizing that the dollar vs. euro was killing me, plus shipping, plus those units are more expensive anyways. i decided to go with the ssv and ice chamber.

i ordered through tokin, and got a black on black with apparently both og and handsfree (i ordered hf, i guess its an add-on not a replacement). its too bad theres no way to really get a good look at all the glass options available. if 7th floor were better at the internet i imagine itd be way easier to get what you want and order with confidence. but they seem to seldom update their site. too bad im not in boulder co or where ever. its ok though since the colors make no difference really, and besides, they all look sick just not the particular design you imagine. my heater cover and og wand are esp. nice looking.

i like the new style wands but at first i thought they were one-offs or something. sure enough though its just a new design, and makes more sense. i also like that the heater points down, not up like on the vb. herbs dont fall into the heater, esp. with the glass on glass setup. however its already led me to break the hf wand, since it can easily fall down. be careful. i only prefer the hf for personal use or with a ice chamber/water pipe since then you can hold the pipe easier. medicating by myself i usually am doing something else at the same time, whether its eating or surfing the web or writing essays or programming. so i dont like to have to hold the wand. with groups though the og makes more sense.

performance:
the unit heats up super fast. you can watch it. what you cant do is grind up nugget and pack it faster than than it heats up, so thats nice. still takes a little action to get the wand and heater cover hot, and get vapor flowing, but thats normal. if you hit hard enough, you can dim the element. not usually an issue. the unit does provide nice hits. imo the ssv is not your best option for consuming your indoors or mid, stick to kb or better. its definitely well constructed as far as i can tell. the cord is nice and long. i also love the fact that the female GonG joint is on the unit, that helps keep the wand clean. on the other hand, the vb screens may be tricky to replace but i was able to keep mine so clean and it seemed so strong i dont think i was going to ever replace it. the ssv screen on the other hand seems flimsier and gets dirtier faster and its harder to get clean, and almost impossible to get completely clean. i do like their metal pick though, much better than wooden skewers and the bead can be used to pack material down. i dont think i will ever understand why the knob and the heater cover are on opposite sides of the unit, that makes no sense. the bad it comes with is very nice, though i dont move mine around too much. the vb didnt really need a bag, i could just though it in my backpack and put the whip in a pocket of the bag to keep it safe. this works too though.

use:
i like vaporbonging, which is why i might still end up getting an herbo. here are some pics of us chillin. i swear i cleaned up my room the next day. sorry i dont have any good pics of vapor being blown out this was a pretty small pack of some decent bud but nothing compared to usual... this term is going to be pretty easy and i posted up some good grades last term so i'll get around to posting more hopefully. and also picks of my buds, some of you know they get nice. i try not to splurge thought and stick to some 60 sacks. actually now im smoking more instead of vaping, but its all good, the vapor bong hits are wonderful, not much feels better.

the piece shown is a delta 9 18" perc'ed pipe, with a diffused downstem, lots of nice warm water (the drag is less of an issue, and i dont want a lot of vapor trapped at the bottom... we dont clear after each hit). the mouthpiece glass is removed, and the hose just fits in the bushing diffy. its a 14mm joint there, 18 into the pipe. i like the 3/8" hose, but does anyone want to recommend where to buy silicone hose? i would love to try it out.

You should check out the vrip wand as well. Its made for vapor bonging!

Nice pics dude! I love hitting my SSV through the bong. Silicone hose from www.usplastics.com. You can get a screen 100% clean just by swishing it around in some hot iso. That's what I do!

Beezleb: It seems odd but for w/e reason I'm not a huge fan of the Vrip. 1) I like the flexibility a whip vape offers no pun intended. 2) I don't like having to hold the element up to the heater when vapor bonging. From this point if I upgrade I'd prolly go herbo. I'm also not sure about it being so new and all.... SSV is a proven winner, and at the time I ordered nobody had vrips. w/e.

KeepCalm: I used a combination of 90% iso and epsom salt while scraping at it with the pick but hot iso? i'll try that. I found usplastics, its too bad their tygon is so expensive, for the dimensions I think I need it'll be about 30 bucks. :-/

Metal keck clips with a coating to not scratch glass. should be able to hold the HF wand on the unit at the right temperatures.

cool, I'll give that some consideration.... it looks like it'd cost about $10-$20 dollars, which still isn't cheap, but a little better. I know the ID of SSV is 3/8" but it looks like the OD on mine is more than 1/2"... yet not quite 5/8". and that might be important, since now the tubing goes inside of the wand. 1/2" might slide out too easily.

anyone able to comment on how nice this tubing is? better than the tubing that now comes with the SSV? i want something very flexible.

Believe me, $.92/ft. is cheap for silicone.

OD is 1/2". If it comes out of their new 'female' wand, then the wand wasn't made to the proper size. I've had no problems with mine.

I haven't used the Silcon. It's supposed to be flexible, but the SSV tubing is very flexible. Maybe someone who's used both can comment on that.

1/2" Silcon fits great in my SSV wand. It's both more flexible and has less taste than the vinyl tubing that comes with the SSV. Silicon tubing does pick up more dirt and dust than the vinyl stuff though!

Dude respect the alcohol the fumes can be explosive. 9 out of 10 times probably nothing will happen but why take the risk plain old ISO in a sealed container like a jar works fine. Give it a few good shakes and done. No need to heat anything. Even when evaporating it to claim your treasures just leave it uncovered for a few days. No muss no fuss. Not worth risking injury to clean a screen. I'm just saying. At least preface that with try at your own risk.

I'd agree in principle, alcohol is very volatile, especially at higher purities. When heated above room temperature this only becomes more of an issue. At the very least expect iso fumes everywhere, bleh.

mod note: This is the 5th post in a row about nothing but alcohol. Remember you need to always talk about tubing. :goon:

Did you follow up on the little clip that can hold the non GonG wand to the heating element? 7th Floor is now using those to hold the Sherlock Holmes mouth piece found on the WFCM series. But I think the ones they are using are all plastic so they wouldn't work for this application. I'm willing to be the guinea pig and try it out if you can tell me the right size.

Also thanks for the link to the silicone, I think I'll pick a few feet up and give it a chance. The tubbing they are currently using is a little rigid for my taste.
