Thanks for the response wizsteve. The herb seems perfect to me in terms of dryness. I got it from a dispensary in Colorado so it was cured perfectly. should I moisten it up with an orange peel or a little humidity pack thing? I've tried about 5 different strains and they all get dark dark brown. I've taken the EQ up to 430 degrees and it still doesn't get that dark. I'm pretty Damn sure it's real cuz I went to an authorized dealer listed on plooms website. I don't have a way to test the temp right now but will look into the meters. Gonna try it again when I get home and will post pictures of the unit and abv.

It's funny you said it likes sticky herb even I've read here that people suggest drier herbs and even read that people said to set the herbs out after grinding to them a little.

yea when i said sticky i wasn't talking dryness or wetness of the herb was referring to trics on the herb
i used mine for many different strains and i noticed some don't work in the pax very well at all and some work great so when buying see if the herb sticks to your fingers thats the stuff you want to feed your pax with.

However herb can also be over dry for grind just buy a coffee bean grinder (don't use for coffee lol)
do check for seeds before grinding .grind up a 1/8 oz let sit on a tray overnight will do the trick.

for me i find the best way is to set it to hi temp than once it reaches hi turns green i set it to low
than vape seems to work the best for me.

Hi Paxers! Picked up a Pax, and am enjoying it a lot. I had no idea how stealthy it is. Just one question as a newbie to this vape---mine runs a pretty how oven. Not combusting, but hot enough I don't go above the lowest heat setting. Mu question is if there is anything I can do to lower the temp? Like some kind of shim or something? Many thanks.

i would want to check it's temp first if it is way hotter than this take pics of the meter readings and email ploom with the pics its possible a batch of defected chips got out if so it should not be used at all.

If its in the normal range than yes you can decrease the temp by making the oven dirty smear bubble hash or honey oil on oven and use two pax screens instead of one. i used razor foils in mine seemed to work well never thought placement on sides of oven could work.

 • Yellow, or low = 370° F (188° C)
 • Orange, or medium = 390° F (199° C)
 • Red, or high = 410° F (210° C)
you can also play around with some mica cut into size but may work too well

What i would like to see PLoom do is add a USB port to the chip so we could set the 3 temps
via a computer or smart phone. Be kinda nice lol.

Thanks for the info. I'll get the readings and proceed from there. It's funny because I spent a bunch of time getting the oven shiny clean, when I guess it should have been left "seasoned". I'll try the second screen (does it go right on top of the other one?).

Thanks for the info, that helps explain quite a bit. I'm used to the EQ, what we do is make a bowl and take a hit, pass and chill for a minute before taking another hit. So what do you recommend to resolve this? Should I turn it off between hits to keep it from wasting? I'm trying to find a way to use my pax in a way that it's efficient and still tasting delicious. I know I'm supposed to grind it really fine and my grinder doesn't get that fine so I preferred the magic flight finishing grinder. Hopefully that'll help.

Turning it off between hits will run down the battery because it has to heat up again. The nature of the design is such that there isn't a lot you can do about it. You can minimize the cooked taste by using the lowest heat setting and finishing quickly. I would also use smaller loads. You can find some sort of spacer or you can just use a small load. That's what I do when I use a Pax.

Sorry for the late response, i just used your method of starting on the highest and then dropping it back to the lowest. worked pretty damn well. i filled the oven and packed it down then used a screen and it seems to work fine. i included pics for you guys so you could see how am doing this and if im doing anything wrong.

this is the best i could get my grinder to do. i have a MF finishing grinder on the way :)

below is how much i filled the oven and what it was like after i packed it down and put the screen in

we let it heat up to the highest and then dropped it down to the lowest. took a total of 6 hits and it looked like this.
IMG_20140224_204339_zpsf6hfq5yy.jpg
[/IMG]

after that we bumped it to the medium setting and took a total of 2 hits. after which it looked like this and started tasting funny.

out of that i got a total of eight hits, i feel pretty decent. if i take it any further than that, it tastes horrible. i dont mind it because the high creeps on me and feels great but my concern is that if it happens to where im not as medicated as i need to be and wanna kick it further, why does it taste so bad on the 410 degree settings on my pax but on my EQ i can take it up to 440 and it still doesnt taste half as bad as the high setting on my Pax. I know theyre both completely different units but i figured i initially was thinking "its the same temp, it should taste at least similar." but i guess this is where the method of cooking the herb (convection/conduction) comes in to play right? I guess i was thinking that if they put the high setting there, i should be able to use it without it tasting horrible lol. btw, lemon skunk is delicious

ok apparently i dont know how to post pictures on FC yet lol. but here's a slide show of the pics above.

i wouldn't use a screen for a full load and did you burn off the screen? looks new .

use a lighter and burn off that stuff on it .

i would try other strains ones list above has some of the effects as lemon skunk but are better
also stuff like white widow works really well look for darker greens lime green herb never had much luck with.

it seems I have a fake, but it works great, has all the right colours and modes! so Im not too bothered, the way I spotted this, is the lack of 'simon' mode, no big deal.
Its quite a clever idea from pax to spot fakes.

Im in the UK so cannot deal with pax direct, I do get a years warranty though, plus I paid a fraction of the price

After cleaning my pax firmly for the first time with iso, i have noticed that the draws have significantly lesser resistance than normal, with much thicker vapor. I began a session with the usual slow draw and burned my throat pretty good as a result...
Have anyone else noticed this ? Since it was new ive had to pull slow long ones, thats what its known for. This feels like an improvement.

12. Lube up the mouthpiece as directed by Ploom. I pull the collar on the mouthpiece stem up toward the top of the mouthpiece, drop on scant drop of PG into the gap on the shaft, and move that collar back and forth a few times with the tip of the dropper, then smear the rest down the side of the mouthpiece shaft. I also place another scant drop into the end of the tube, ensuring it goes inside.

Now replace the mouthpiece onto the Pax and give it 10 clicks off/on to move the lubrication around evenly.

13. Clean that Screen! Remove the screen from the shot glass, and place it on a paper towel to semi-dry it. Take the screen and place it on something sturdy....a piece of glass, glass tabletop, mirror, piece of steel, or I suppose even an old magazine would work. Take the steel wool ball from earlier, dip it in the shot glass, and while holding the screen down with one finger, scrub the crap off the screen...both sides... Here's before and after pics:

jOMIriv.jpg

14. Put the screen back into the oven. This isn't really a maintenance step, but given some of the trouble some have with the screens, I thought I'd share how I put mine back in, as shown below. I place one side in the corner furthest from the hole, then let it drop in over the hole. I push the "hole side" into place gently with the skewer tip. This is all important as it leaves the appropriate spaces and gaps that are there by design, ensuring the Pax draws correctly and smoothly. Notice the placement of the screen in the final shot. It's actually bowed on the right side of the image, and the bowed end is over the draw hole. Not on each end, don't push it into place in the middle or just toss it into the oven and push it in. I find this is an important little technique often overlooked.

Now you can reassemble your sparkling clean Pax, pack an oven, and get it dirty again!! :) :) :)

I hope this helps some out with a solid cleaning routine. There is a lot of info out there, some good, some not so good, some downright awful. I hope I was able to provide some confidence to those worried about how to clean their Pax and keep it clean.

I'm a bit of a systems addict, so I'm not content unless I have a system/routine worked out. This was the result of trying some tips, modifying some tips, and coming up with my own solutions tried and true.

For those that have yet to come up with a system for cleaning, or for the seasoned Pax user, I think you'll find the above constitutes solid advice, reasonable cost supplies, and a routine that will serve you and your Pax well for the life of the unit.

A Clean Pax is a Happy Pax!!

Peace my brothers and sisters, Pax well!

G

Awesome... TY for this! I printed and saved the directions

Also, I figured out how to not multi post.. haha..

Yes, that's what mine did. I sent it back and they replaced it within a week. I contacted Vapeworld live chat but you can contact Ploom directly and they'll tell you how to proceed.

does y'alls oven and screen start to stain brownish after using it. Only had mine about a week and im seeing the oven slowly turn brown. I used alcohol and qtips but that didnt help. neither did the rough side of a sponge. Bout to go pick up some steel wool since i heard thats the best. will that clear it up?

Also, my screen is retarded. it always pops out. whether im loading the oven or stirring after a few hits. its secure when i first set the screen in but then it pops loose when i try to pack the bud down a little. no idea whats up with that.

Steel wool and ISO works alright, but thanks to this thread, I started using Magic eraser and ISO... I have to say, "I'M A BELIEVER!!!" Seriously, though, the PAX definitely pairs well with a Magic eraser and ISO.

As far as the screen is concerned, I always have slight issues with it right after taking it out to clean (I started taking it out less as a result). However, for the first pack after a screen clean, I work my magic to get the screen in place, then I'm a bit gentle with getting the "tight pack". After the first session, however, the heat expands the screen enough so that it isn't so "stubborn" and it'll stay in place as long as I'm not overly rough, lol. I hope this helps, I'm slightly PAXed at the moment.

Thanks for all the tips and hints that people have taken the time to post. I've read through this monster of a thread and I'm very glad I did. I'm one satisfied PAX owner.. That being said, its time to show my LSV some love, its getting lonely.

There are untold of these at various cheap prices on Ebay , some as little as £55 , these have to be fakes surely

Most definitely YES! The counterfeits are quite prevalent lately. The real deal comes with a ten year warranty. I'd buy through an authorized reseller or from Ploom direct personally. They offer great warranty service.

Thanks for the reply man. I actually had shady bought the steel wool by the time I read your response lol. The steel wool works pretty Damn well also. I'll probably try out the magic eraser once I run outta the steel wool.

My screen is still being retarded though lol. Damn thing took almost thirty minutes to set in there right after cleaning. I'd push down one side to secure it and the other would pop up, push down the other side and the original popped up. Finally got it in after warming it up a little.

Off topic, does anyone who has an eq notice a difference in taste? The same herb tastes so much better in the eq. The asking I use in the eq can run for a good 15-20 hits but the same amount in the pax starts to taste horrid after about 4 hits on low and 2-4 hits on medium. Still a noob with the pax so im still tinkering with things to get it right, but figured I'd ask in in the meantime.

Hi, new to this forum so apologies if this has been asked before. Had anyone heard of or seen a counterfeit pax ploom that has all the correct light colours and party mode? What what i have read even the best fakes dont have party mode or the right light colours?

But it is a medical grade stainless steel so presumably it has no power coats etc? I am worried as i got one off ebay in the uk. Paid £220 and it appears genuine in every way, but now i hear fakes have serial numbers, party mode etc and are impossible to tell from a fake. Main worry is that the fakes could be using all sorts of poor materials such as davyvisions post....
