alternative (nichrome) heatingelement

hello!

i built a vaporizer myself at home and used a nichrome wire connected to coppercontacts as heating element.

do you guys see any harm in this construction?

wasnt able to find some real information, probably because my english isnt the best^^

There've been some concerns bout nichrome safety.. although it was used in mflb i think.. so i guess.. proven to be safe... U can try wrap the nichrome coils around a glass tube.. and isolate them from the airpath.. Good luck and welcome to FC !

nichrome wire should be safe up to 1300°C ...
but im not sure how HOT the wire gets when it glows that bright like on the photo.. (i dont own a infrared thermometer..) but im guessing its not hotter than 600°C...

im using the vaporizer since months now, and im still alive.. but still have concerns about it

nichrome wire is also used in atomizers (this e-zigaretts)... thats all very confusing to me, also because of the fact that some ppl react allergic to nickel.

i was thinking about kanthal wire, but theres a bit alluminium inthere and if the wire gets about 650°C hot it will vaporise out of the wire.... (thats how i understand this physics, it may be false thinking)

Nichrome resistance wire is used in ecigs as well, and I'm using an ecig RBA for dabs atm. I've been building my own coils for years and once they've been red hot once for a few seconds, they're tasteless.

As for the copper... not so sure. Hope it's not getting hot.

melting point of copper is arround 1000°C
i have used ss wires as contacts but with them there comes a very disturbing noise...

I believe the Firewood uses nichrome wire. The wire gets red hot but I can't imagine its heat being above 500 at that point due to the difficulty of combustion. It takes around 60 seconds of heat to start becoming red. Maybe if you pm firewood on fc he would be able to answer your question. I do know the nichrome is in the airpath.
