Yesterday I used my pax no problem...then I packed it again later and when I went to turn it on and it started flashing red and turned off... After taking a closer look and trying it several times I notice that it flashes red 10 times and turns off...when I put it on the charger it flashes 10 times does not charge.... a couple of times the light barely came on and it started heating up and smoke started coming out ( with no herb inside)... and the white light inside does not come on at all.... HELPPPPP

Assuming this is an official Pax, I would get in touch with them. The issue you mention does not sound like one that is user fixable.

My experience with Pax warranty service has been fantastic. As long as it isn't a counterfeit (or bought used), they should take care of you in no time.

*sigh* That doesn't sound good. I can say that Ploom offered great customer service when I had a problem. They sent prepaid shipping label. I cleaned and mailed Pax in and they sent me a brand new one.

Not much to worry about, my first one died and I had a new one exactly one week after I sent the carcass out. Can't recall if I was dealing with Ploom directly or Vapeworld where I got it from but I used a live chat channel and there were zero issues.

hey all,
new to the forum and new to my pax. just got it 2 days ago. for the most part i dig it, but i have a couple concerns:

1) while on the charger, it stays orange constantly, even when it should be fully charged. i let it charge overnight and still orange. is this a problem anyone has had? how long should it take to charge?
2) the connection on the charger is very loose. if i touch it, even slightly, it breaks the connection and stops charging. the posts on the pax itself are almost non-existent, there is only the tiniest amount of copper visible, and it's only on the one hole on one side. is this normal? maybe related to 1)?
3) the pax itself rattles. most of it seems to be coming from the stem on the mouthpiece, but there is still a slight rattle otherwise.
4) it cools down considerably after hitting it. it has to warm up after almost every hit.

sorry for the long post. i just want to make sure i dont have a defective unit while it's still returnable.

Did you buy from Ploom or an authorized reseller?? It's possible it's a counterfeit unit :(

The charging connection is loose'ish but usually goes back to charging after a bump. My units take a couple hours at most to charge but I never run them down.

RE: The rattle might be the little doohickey/ring on the mouthpiece that is supposed to move freely. Not a big rattle but it should move a bit and do a little clickety clack sound.

If it still doesn't go to green after trying to charge and you purchased from Ploom or an authorized reseller I'd suggest contacting them. If it's counterfeit :( meh... not sure what to tell you there. There is a thread to try and distinguish if you've got a fake here: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/fake-pax-vaporizers-bootlegs.9016/

i'm afraid you might be right :( i checked out the link regarding fakes and i'm almost certain it's counterfeit. they sold it well on eBay, nor did they lower the price too much. seemed alright. i just now e-mailed them, so fingers crossed. it's been used and of course their return policy doesn't allow for used products. but i'd hope that selling fake items negates that policy. i haven't looked around to see others success with refunds, but they have 100% rating, so they probably don't want to lose that  so i guess the issues i'm having are easily explained now, but i appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction.

You will have to open a claim through paypal, note that you only have 45 days from the purchase to start of claim to be covered. You can start the process from the paypal site or ebay. Really easy and I have never had a problem with it. Just look for 'Resolution centre' on paypal or 'resolve a problem' on ebay.

hope that helps :)

I have purchased a lot of electronics on ebay with PayPal, equipment, parts, chips, everything, from the US, Canada and China, and always been able to get returns worked out. The combination of the threat of bad feedback and the clout of PayPal usually just works. Just be polite and firm. If you're not sure, say you're not sure. Be honest. But if what you bought is not "as presented", you're entitled to a full refund.

Hi Vape community,

I'm from Malaysia and I recently purchased a fake Ploom Pax through a person who bought it from eBay. Thankfully, I managed to get a refund from the person and he is now pursuing a refund from eBay as well.

As mentioned here, the signs are there and what made it worst was that I needed to take out the mouthpiece before I can charge the fake unit. And the battery life was crap. Only lasted one and a half bowl before it needed a recharge.

Having said that, the experience I had with the fake ploom pax made me want to get an original unit.

Great product definitely. Can't wait to get the original.

Figuree id share my customer service experience with you guys, I bought my pax in 2012 from my lhs which is not around anymore two weeks ago my pax died for no reason at all. I notified ploom they asked for my pax serial number I assume to verify I have a legit pax, they sent me a priority mail return slip already paid.
Shipped my pax received an email that they have received the package. The next day an email saying I will be getting a replacement I sent my pax out and in the same week recieved a brand new pax! Ploom customer service is the best imo

had a question for you guys, i've had an Extreme Q for probably over a year and i love it. everything i put in tastes great and gets me where i need to be. I started looking for a more portable solution and came across the pax and this thread. after lurking for weeks, i pulled the plug and bought one. loved it. sleek, portability and even though it didnt get many visible vapors, it got me pretty high.

ive used it for about a week and ive noticed that for some reason, the pax seems to leave a funny, almost plasticky aftertaste and never tastes as good as it does in the EQ. Ive cleaned it multiple times and still cant seem to get it right. even did the initial burnoff too. I know the EQ and Pax are two completely different products but i didnt think the taste would be so off. am i doing something wrong?

Ive also noticed that the amount of material i use in the EQ seems to go further in the EQ than the Pax. i dont need a lot of material to get medicated so ive tried, half an oven full as well. but for some reason it seems that the pax cooks the weed a lot faster. a half oven can go for at least 10 hits on the EQ without tasting bad, on the Pax, i took 3 hits on low and bumped it to medium and it tasted like crap after a couple hits. popped open the oven and everything was almost black. am i doing something wrong? I've read a shit ton of the posts and tried all the different methods people recommended. (full oven (even though i dont use that much) packing it down tight, using another screen to hold the weed tight in the oven, slow long pulls, shorter, multiple pulls. i cant seem to get it right. i know i have to be doing something wrong since everyone raves about this and it does get me high. I just cant get the taste right nor can i figure out why it cashes out so quickly.

any help would be appreciated. i like the pax a lot. but for $250, i wanna love it like everyone else does lol.

sorry for the long post/rant

By the sound of it your herb may be on the dry side, also Pax like the sticky sticky herb.
grind it fine i mean really fine vape like it's a cigar or pipe don't need to go slow just inhale

So i would try using kilf or hash in there even smear some honey oil on the oven before loading it with herb.
However you said you did a break in ? pax really doesn't need one and that odd taste? and turning almost black? if possible post some pics(is it a real Pax?) you should see vapor unless your herb over dry and has little to no oils in it.

So yes your doing it wrong inhaling way too slow and not filling it up make sure your not covering the oven with hand or fingers switch herbs .

Last note is it real? is it over heating? can you check the temps? abv should not turn black so you got me worried real or fake never heard or one getting that hot on medium so yes something could be very wrong i would buy one of those temp meters check temps. You may need a replacement .

Thanks for the response wizsteve. The herb seems perfect to me in terms of dryness. I got it from a dispensary in Colorado so it was cured perfectly. should I moisten it up with an orange peel or a little humidity pack thing? I've tried about 5 different strains and they all get dark dark brown. I've taken the EQ up to 430 degrees and it still doesn't get that dark. I'm pretty Damn sure it's real cuz I went to an authorized dealer listed on plooms website. I don't have a way to test the temp right now but will look into the meters. Gonna try it again when I get home and will post pictures of the unit and abv.

It's funny you said it likes sticky herb even I've read here that people suggest drier herbs and even read that people said to set the herbs out after grinding to them a little.

If you're not packing the oven completely, then consider using the screen technique with lesser amounts.
This makes a huge difference. I usually use one and did not have it with me today...big difference in vapor production.

I've done both with and without a screen. Gonna fill it up all way and try without a screen and see what's up. I normally use the screen technique because I don't use much herb

The green just seems to get cooked up waay faster on this in comparison to the eq. I just filled it to the top, packed it down and filled some more. On my way home with the family now, will post again here shortly with pics and results

Some of your problems are characteristic of the Pax. Although the EQ is always on, it is primarily a convection device. If you aren't drawing on the whip or using the fan, there is no air passing through your load so there is just a little vapour given off due to the heated glass and rising hot air. This preserves flavour and makes efficient use of your stash.

The Pax, however, is a conduction vapourizer and it is always on until it times out, therefore it is always cooking your load. It does have a lower idle temperature that it drops to if it doesn't sense any motion, but it is still hot enough to cook. This destroys the taste quickly, gives off a lot of odour, and is disastrous for economy.

Thanks for the info, that helps explain quite a bit. I'm used to the EQ, what we do is make a bowl and take a hit, pass and chill for a minute before taking another hit. So what do you recommend to resolve this? Should I turn it off between hits to keep it from wasting? I'm trying to find a way to use my pax in a way that it's efficient and still tasting delicious. I know I'm supposed to grind it really fine and my grinder doesn't get that fine so I preferred the magic flight finishing grinder. Hopefully that'll help.
