i think itll do the job on max but i dont think they can get hot enough to do a superb job. i dont own one tho. let us know!
I will definitely post updates when I start doing it! Gotta get in the groove of wrapping coils again! Anyways hopefully when I push my Provari to 5+ volts, with a lower OHM coil I can get some nice hits! My only concern is the 17 or so second auto shut off, but that could be easily bypass by pressing the button quickly-so not a huge issue!

interested to see what kind of wick works in it

I'm making my own and its much easier to prototype. You just need a source for ceramic.
Here's some from the silver surfer guys. Get the white in the largest size
http://silversurfervap.com/ceramic-flavor-disc.html#

You can use a dremel to shape them, they're a little too big for rbas as they come.

I think I'm going to try that disc idea. Basically a short cylinder shape with a hole drilled horizontally on the bottom side. You could put a coil in there. I'd recommend ribbon kanthal to increase surface area. I'm thinking you can get better flavor by putting the coil within the ceramic and having it heat that up. When you wrap the coil on the outside you can taste the wire.

I really want to get a small solid ceramic coated heater instead of bare wire. It would provide more even heating which gives better and more consistent flavor.

This guy has a source from China who might be able to build a solid disc heater instead of this donut shape:
http://www.fatdaddyvapes.com/donuts.html
Right now the guy has more coming in but he's currently out of stock and the first run was extremely low resistance around .3-.5 Ohms. Next run will be higher.
I want to get a solid disc heater around 1ohm...

nice! cant wait to see/hear about it. the disc idea comes from my old TV Revs and Darts. they were basically a coil undernieth a disc of ceramic. oil didnt have anywhere to go except into the ceramic. problem is that the revs/darts took too long to get hot enough. time to start building them myself.

those 7th Floor discs look very porous... maybe even a little too porous?

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/802891310/99_9_industrial_porous_ceramic_filter.html

might be able to order 60 grit or 50 grit, those sizes work best for wicking i read.

edit: i often find myself wanting to use cotton, but dont want the burning problems. found this. http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/840803421/Aluminum_Silicate_Ceramic_wick_for_Furnace.html

anyone feeling brave?

ive never ordered from Alibaba... you? is shipping horrible like fasttech is?

yes, shipping is slower and you have to pay insane prices for it. it really only works if you are buying in bulk.

If anyone wants to go in on a larger order of anything from alibaba hit me up, looking to start up a business I think. if serious, send me a PM

This is what the thermovape cera looks like inside. Its very similar to the revolution except bigger. Basically it uses a solid ceramic rod with a coil wrapped around it. The coil/rod is placed inside a stack of porous ceramic donuts. The design works extremely well, the only downside is that it is not easy to take apart and clean.

those are interesting. are they porous? im gonna check em out.
They're solid. Basically a wire, with solid ceramic encased over the wire. The wire heats up and transfers heat to the ceramic, essentially they both heat up at the same time. I'd like to try one too, but only when they increase resistance.

yeah a 1ohm would be right in my wheelhouse.

I love this guys detail. Ordered the parts and gonna make this one next week.

i agree about the detail. very nice instructions. but what is the point of all that wire being twisted together? to increase the coils heat up time? i think its funny when ecig guys want the largest cloud possible. i mean with cannabis it makes sense, but with nic fluid i just dont get it. i dont remember trying to finish a cig in one or two drags when i used to smoke. why would anyone want a lung busting nic fluid rip?

I don't get it either, maybe they just enjoy blowing out huge clouds of vapor? I'd be scared to get a huge hit of nicotine, talk about a headache!

well a lot of the big clouds come with a lot more air too. when the ratio gets fucked up you definitely notice. Plus these flat coils that are twisted together are meant to focus on flavor while trying to keep up vapor production. they want clouds for the same reason we do. dunno about you guys but magic launchbox much less satisfying as far as vaporizing, initially (and then the awesome high kicks in) but still i felt it was missing something or i was always doing it wrong, even though theres nothing to mess up. hope im explaining myself right

OK I see. Why not just use a thicker wire? Whatever thermovape cera uses for a heating wire, it produces great flavor, its also very thick in gauge so maybe that contributes. Thicker vapor is more satisfying...

yea the thicker wire has more surface area but you have to think with round wire there is exponentially more metal in between the outer edges of the wire itself, creating a ton more heat than what you are needing to get that flavor, which can lead to all sorts of stuff. hence to get your thicker vapor, he starts twisting in 28ga and 30ga and 32ga in some other kinds of coils (agro coil i believe?).

But yea for us, all of this is totally subjectj to change since we are vapign totally different stuff. i might think ribbon wire wouldnt be able to get hot enough with some wax on it? hows the experience been with all that?

Ok guys so I got it together and it's working pretty well. Flavor and vapor is ok, but I feel it could be better. I think the kanthal ribbon is the weak point. I want to experiment with a thicker round wire maybe. Another thing I want to try is inserting some type of solid ceramic rod or even porous inside the hole where I put the coil. I think this would achieve better heating of the whole wick. I wish I could get a hold of what thermovape uses for a wire, apparently it is proprietary iron based? pretty thick too
On to the photos...

id say try some 22ga and wrap it around a paper clip or soemthing more rigid but as thin. for added thickness maybe add a layer of ss mesh on the coil.

but its going to be a MAJOR p.i.t.a. getting it caught under those top mount posts. i have trouble with getting 24ga under that type.

Thanks for the suggestion, looks like I'll need to pick up some new wire soon. Maybe even a new rba, I find that I'm being limited by the placement of the posts...

I found a decent vape shop locally this week and while I was there I picked up a Nemesis clone, IGO-W, and a 30 Amp Efest 18650.

I built a .6 ohm dual coil setup on my first try. Works beautifully with small dabs similar in size to what I would put on my Omicron Kiss cart. I think I will be going single coil in the future as I think that would be better for a straight dab setup.

I am less than impressed with the ejmix in this setup. I'm using cotton for my wicks and the concentrate infused ejmix just doesn't wick up quickly enough.

dangit, i wanted to try cotton too : /

for this go round i just put a few drops of ej mix in with my gram. let it sit over night and now i have a molasses like oil that spreads easy but holds.

i raised up my coil back off the deck again because i hated the taste of too-far-gone resin where my wick met the base. it just builds up over time and starts stinkin everything up.

for concentrate dabs, i like a pair of 1mm size holes, tight draw. for the ejmix shiz i have to open it all the way up
