Arizer Solo

1. Does it look like I made a good purchase on ebay?
2. Is the model I bought the most up-to-date?
3. Should I buy a case? If so, which ones? (Any shared experiences would be great)
4. What is the deal with this Zeus grinder they are giving away? I was suspicious when she didn't try to get me to buy the more expensive model?
5. What grinders to you Solo owners use to achieve the best consistency for it?

  1. No idea. Looks like a private seller had a Solo he didn't want and hocked it on Ebay. Probably is legit, however it is Ebay after all... In any case, Arizer should honor their warranty regardless of whom you bought it from. Just make sure to register it with them. The downside is that its typically easier to return to seller for an exchange versus going through Arizer for warranty replacement, and you're SOL on that front.
  2. Maybe, cant tell. 2013 could be the latest model, or it could be the model before that. If you can vape while its charging, then you got the newest one.
  3. If you dont travel with it, a case is not necessary. IIRC, someone posted up about their Solo which still worked after BEING RUN OVER BY A CAR and left in the snow overnight. As for smell, the Solo itself does not smell, only the stems if they aren't clean. As for protecting the glass stems, while keeping the smell in you can always go with these: http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/baby-soda-bottles-giant-test-tubes.html (also sold on Amazon).
  4. I'm confused. The Ebay link you gave has the seller listing the item as "a gift that I never used". Seems to me that the grinder probably came with the Solo (as they often do from retailers) and thus has no other one to "sell" you? As for the brand, Ive never heard of it. Its probably some generic grinder that should work okay. If you feel the need to get some fancy shit though, we have a thread for that: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/herb-grinders.15/
  5. Depends on how much you need to grind at once, but for most Solo users this works: http://santacruzshredder.com/product/small-2-piece-grinders/ However, if you feel the need to grind a couple of grams at one time with little effort, go with a "large".

Thanks for posting all that info @Pipes! I still have some questions though. What's the voltage/amperage of the power supply that comes stock with the latest/2014 models? Can the stock power supply that comes with the latest models charge while the unit is being used, or do you need to buy a separate/different power supply for that? I've seen some places offer a separate power supply for sale that's different from the stock power supply--but maybe that's just for the older models?
You're very welcome.
The supply that comes with the unit is a 12 volt/ 1 amp charger. The same as old models.
Old models would cut out the ability to turn on the heater while charging.
The new units have been programmed/changed to allow use while charging. It turns down the charge to trickle while the heater is on. But not mandatory to abuse your batteries like that.
If battery longevity is an issue the true PA supply is still an option. This is the one posted above, 8.5 volt 5 amps. Overkill on the amps. Of course you have the AIO option. (information links in my sig).....if that is your quest.

Hey, you don't happen to have a link for the plug adapters if you bought online?
This is what I bought: http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/st...oductId=2113703&catalogId=10001&CID=PDF133CAT
but was a little too big. The part that plugs into the Solo is right, but be care full to get the right size on the other end(maybe another member could jump in here). I actually think an adaptor with a small "pigtail" that allows the plug to swivel is a better option. This company has those as well.

I know, I have read about them.

but if the specs and polarity is right, I don't see why it wouldn't work as expected.
the PA is no magical box ,it is just a dc adapter.
still I haven't got an answer for the specs yet. I know the ps2 PA would work but I would like to know the exact specs printed on the PA. (if anyone is willing to share that info)
I use the ORIGINAL power supply for the large version Play Station 2:
ps2ps.jpg

I had several around the place because I used to own a video game store. They work good and are reliable. Can't vouch for the newer versions though.

If I didn't already have all the cables andpower supplies I need, I would consider the PA solutions offered by two enterprising forum members. I believes Pipes has one and being nicely medicated I can't recall the other, but both reportedly work well and with features not found with a standard PA and at a comparable cost.

I have one of the new slim PS2's, my power adapter has the same numbers on the back. 2.1mm male to 1.7mm female... "oddly" enough my local Radio Shack didn't have those. Rather spend a few bucks to get it locally... damn you instant gratification. It really shouldn't be that hard to find this... maybe hobby stores? There's a few close by, and I'm going into town where there's a Fry's so I'll take a peek there, too.

I have to say again: I LIKE THE NEW CHANGES (M1D2)
Draws likes it should.
Heats up Faster
Ability to use unit while charging
Lots more visable vapor
Seems to medicate much more effectively

Ah yes, my old familiar spinning bent stem came back to haunt me. I would simply install an "O" ring but my brand new warranty replacement Solo has a cap with bogus threads, soooo I did the other temporary fix. Took my memory stick(I know nice choice of tool) and pressed the black factory ring above the heater chamber down so that it is flush with the top again and fixed problem agian for now.
Meanwhile I need to try to replace the cap, so the "O" ring can be used later when it inevitably will become loose again.

After 2 weeks of use, my second Solo is with problems. :(
funny, i'm on my second replacement vape. the first one after about 2 weeks exact, stopped working and the bottom light flashed ultra quick until i removed the battery two days later.
then 2 weeks exact after i got the replacement, the next one died. now on my 3rd warranty replacement and have made sure i'm on it's own power outlet and i'm only using the charger that came with it. Here's hoping that in two weeks everything still works smooth because i notice a definite difference between the new models over my m105, which still functions but is in rough shape from 2 years medical use. i'm sending in the second fried one at the end of the month when i'm rich again for a few minutes so hopefully they can lock down the issue.

&
i've noticed that compared to my m105, it's got a better temperature profile. now instead of being 4-5-7, i'm starting at 3,then still getting 4-5-7. that's a nice.

what are the output specs for the PA?
I have a bunch of power adapters from other projects lying around...... maybe try one out.

You want 7.5 to 9.0 Volts at at least 2.5 Amps.
Be advised some have reported problems with PS2 supplies (including fire.....something many are trying to avoid anywhere near their vapes).

Hey, you don't happen to have a link for the plug adapters if you bought online?

Probably:

Please don't volunteer me for that. I much prefer folks to ask questions publicly rather than expecting personal service. I like to think others can profit from this and I won't have to keep answering the same questions over and over and over......but sadly there's little evidence to support that fantasy. For instance, I've posted the link to t he above adapter over a dozen times now. Ataxian has as well.

Thanks for at least considering it. I'm more than happy to help folks out when I can but resent being the 'easy solution' for those too busy to use the search function. Or say thank you.

For those of you who've bought the Solo, do you recommend buying a case. I am not going to be traveling with it to my knowledge, but I do like the concept of an airtight seal to keep all odors inside the case. None of the cases I've seen has a spot for a grinder. Does anyone have any recommendations for a case?

When I spoke to the people who apparently manufacture or, at the very least, hold the license to produce the product/issue warranties, the person with whom I spoke said that the grinder they give out with the Solo is the one perfectly suited for producing the consistency one needs for the Solo. She didn't try to sell me the more expensive Zeus grinder or anything like that. Does anyone have an experience with that grinder as it applies to the Solo? I have my own grinder, but she was rather adamant that that grinder they were giving away for free was the way to go.

So, to summarize my questions:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't know that seller so cant chime in sorry. I got mine from someone else. I don't know if its up to date but the number on mine is an M1C1.

Im new to all this but I would advise buying or making a case. I plan to make one just pick any storage box you have with extra room to add foam. Get some thick foam (hardware store, florist, etc...) lay your pieces out trace with a sharpie then you either cut it out with a razor blade or cauterize it with a hot coat hanger. Like you said the upside of purchasing is that many of them have odor lock so you wont smell the MJ. More discrete if you are around people who don't know you vape.

Cant really speak to the grinders much I got a freebie with mine too. Havent tried it yet but I am happy with the green Cali Crusher I already had.

Can you give us more info , like what exactly ?

This is my second Solo with problem. I received this unit from Arizer warranty, in 30 January.
The first Solo was a M1A4. He power off after 1 or 2 minutes heating.

I use 95% of the time with a PA. For me, means I charge every 3-4 days at my convenience when level gets down to 1-2 lights.

I put my money on a bad battery. Reads full but fails under load. After some time without load the battery reads fine again.?
Suppose it could be a bad connection as well. You could disconnect the battery and plug it back in tight to see.
It's the nature of batteries to either fail quick or last up to their spec. You have not been lucky at all.

Sorry if you felt I was volunteering you, wasnt my intention. Was more like me seeing a question and trying to steer him in the right direction since I know you did alot of voltage testing for charge vs running the solo. Next time I will just tell the poster to search or I will search myself and link it here.

No bueno. My only word of advise is to get a replacement, its really unlikely to get two dead units let alone 3. And when you have a working unit they are generally very reliable.

My experience is different! The PNWT has alittle more resistance than the d020 but not by much. I will do more testing on tuesday (after exams). But I think the problem might have been water levels. The PNWT is a very finicky piece of glass and it takes some experience to get the right levels. Thats because it has such a small volume. I will take a picture of the "right" (at least for me) water level that has very little resistance. I found the water being alot higher than the slits gives the least resistance.
I sold it.
I have a frit that is 1000000 x better.

If you have it wired fine.

I didn't have luck it it.

Maybe I don't have your patience?

My SOLO with FINN'S COTTON wrapped around SHATTER in a D020 was smooth and coma inducing.

just to add to what olj said ,
Your D20 has an 18mm Female fitting ,
so you'll want to get an 18mm Male fitting Gong .

The PNWT also has a 14mm and 18mm Female fitting and is to be used like a HT . To be attached on top of Solo .
The D20 is a bubbler and the Solo is inverted into it .
The PNWT allows more portability than the D20 .
But if I had to just get one , I would get the bubbler .
I get a lot of hate from the boyz across the pond?

I found the PNWT to be worthless with the SOLO!

That was my interpretation if you don't like it fine!

Interesting, I had not tried that w/ the Solo yet. I didnt think it got hot enough. Guess I was wrong?
For what, oil? Just a dab and wrap it in cotton, straight into the stem and vape it. I've got a cotton filter set up in my female-female (sitting on a screen) to scrub the bigger particles out and make it less cough-inducing. When it's collected enough reclaim/condensed vapor I just cut to fit and stuff the cotton in, vape it away.

I normally dry vape on level 3 and level 4 for wet.

I vaped the shatter with organic cotton (FINN'S) on level 6.

Very high normally for me however this last batch od shatter worked well wirth this configeration.

The D020 I what I used with success.
In the NANO I had a very nice result as well. I went from 6.5 to 8.0.

I'm still learning however I like this so far!

I do this all the time w/ the E Nano with basically all of my concentrates (not reclaim). I hadnt given it much though to do it with the Solo.

Quick question for those with a power adapter and an older Solo that didn't allow charge/PA with the same cable. When you plug it in, it turns on, shows 7 lights, then power level can be set. It seems that it can't be turned off which makes sense. Unplugging turns it off, then turning on/off as normal. The green light never turns on during this, but it does heat up. Sound right? I mighta wired something up that works :whoa: I don't get a weird light show or anything.

Keep in mind "older Solo" means old like my M1B1 old. Thanks

I went to the Home Depot today and tried to find a stem cover like planetvape sale. I am gonna order some from them when some of their other glass options come in but I was wondering if anyone has found a good stem cover that was originally intended for a different purpose.

AFAIK the stem covers on PV site are from MFLB covers for AA batteries that have the label removed to work with the MFLB, the covers stop it from shorting.

EDIT:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magic-Fligh...zer-Original-cap-new-oem-4-PACK-/150672828763

But do know that it is not recommended to put the cap on when the stem is still hot

Pretty much spot on apart from when I plug mine in, it shows the current battery level - not always seven lights, then continues just as you've described...

I have an M1A1

I see it now, it was at 7 before but this time it was at 3. Guess I just wired up my own PA :D only tested it quickly, going to clean it up now. Got a 90 degree plug on it
