Wwhat is the simon feature please :) i literally just got my new cobalt one :)

(from my post on previous page)

Simon mode! a dozen or so flips, it flashes white at you 4-5 times, then gives you the first 3 colors in the sequence. lean away for blue, toward yourself for yellow, to the right for green, to the left for red. get it right, it flashes white, and adds one to the sequence. get it wrong, it flashes red at you and you try again.

It's addictive, and a very cool use of the technology they put into the Pax....also...ultimate stoner game. ;) Brings back memories of being baked and playing the actual Simon game in the 70s with the colors and beeps. Aaack, I just totally dated myself...:)

That is my exact cleaning process graffix

You didn't even notice me there looking over your shoulder!! :)

It's pretty straightforward, right? I know there are so many ways people have used...MrKrinkle uses water/steam and the heat of the unit to clean,.I saw someone else suggest putting PG actually in the herb, say it cleans the unit while vaping. Goes to show what a great place FC is and how much great info Is here. I've learned much from this thread and use many of those tips daily!

First suggestion would be a thorough cleaning...methods described back a bit in this thread. A clean Pax is a happy Pax...plus they work MUCH better clean. Fingers crossed that is your only problem.

Hi everybody, after purchasing my Pax a few weeks ago I began to search the web to learn the best ways to use it, clean it and care for it and I came across this forum. I have to say this has been invaluable to my Pax ownership. I have read or skimmed all 400+ pages. After often 20 years smoking this is my first vaporizer and I have to say I will never go back to combustion. I can't believe it took so long but here I am. I have a feeling I will soon be looking into a heavy hitter plug in unit to compliment my Pax. But I do love my Pax and I hope I can contribute to this forum going forward.

I do have one question about using the pipe screams for smaller loads. Some have said that you shouldn't use brass screens. I have a package of brass pipe screens. If they are made for using in tobacco pipes with combustion then why would they have harmful chemicals in them? Is this just a leftover from old school days or do I really need to toss these and buy SS screens?

Brass has approximately 2% lead which has a boiling point of 621f. In California we only allow 0.25% as of 2010. The amount is minuscule and we're not going past 450 but I would prefer stainless steel if I'm going to be inhaling the heated material. I mean the content is probably really minuscule but not for me.

Long time lurker - 1st time poster :)

I bought the Pax two weeks ago and its been a love/hate relationship. I have tinkered with it and have some unusual suggestions for enjoying it more.

1stly I am a bong smoker of 20 years who recently gave up smoking tobacco and wants to enjoy many more years of herbal enjoyment without killing myself doing so! :)
So I have been switching to vaporizing with a vaporlution (1) but it wasnt gettong me the hit i wanted and seemed to go through my stash like 3X my normal intake. I decided to upgrade and get a Pax as I just loved the design and figured spending $250 would force me to switch to Vapes full-time. Its taken me a while to get what i want from it but here's my results after 2 weeks of experimenting.

BTW - I don't smoke for health reasons pure recreation so these are not medical suggestions....purely for getting baked at the end of the day!

1. (Warning this may invalidate your warranty - I'm UK so mines invalid any way as i bought it off a ebay importer)
DO you find the pull a bit too like a thick McD style milkshake? Open up the hole on the top of the mouth-piece (i used a scapel) so you have a nice round "O" instead of a tiny slit - you should be able to see light down it. Blow through it to get rid of any shards of plastic and put it back on. You will now find that it drags through pretty freely now and is much easier to clean as the pipe cleaner goes all the way through! Some may say that you will get tiny bits of herb on your tongue but I don't mind 1 bit adds to flavor!

2. Deep-throat it! Keep the mouth-piece on and instead of sucking through it, stick your pax right deep in your mouth and take a long slow pull. Hits you like a sack full of door-knobs with huge clouds - only downside is you burn through a full oven in 5-6 pulls.

3. Blends - I liked smoking tobacco with Weed so I tried with a old style mix up roughly 50/50 ground dried weed and tobacco. This is not for everyone of course but it is pretty nice in my opinion. The taste of tobacco without burning is really mellow and smooth and with the herb is a nice treat. You do get a nicotine hit too and the vapor is a gentle blue and thicker. If you like tobacco and are low on herb before payday it will certainly help stretch out your stash. I also like to take my ego-cig just after a pure Pax hit and enjoy the two highs together. I find just smoking the pax with pure herb is not quite enough for me and the added nicotine replicates the old weed/tobacco water bong high enough to keep me from combusting in my old shoot-through bong.

4. Keep the oven warm - I live in a cold part of the UK and have to vape outside in my shed cos I am a old man! :) Anyways I was getting infuriated with my late night cold shed sessions with my pax constantly warming up or not. I find if I cup the bottom of it with my hands insulating it - I get a decent handwarmer with the Added bonus of keeping my oven light on blue (ready) pretty much all the time.

- good luck

My pax hasn't been getting much vapor any suggestions??!!

When I first got my Pax, I thought it was broken because I wasn't getting full hits. Turns out, I just wasn't packing it tight enough. The Pax likes a real tight pack in the oven, I use the side of my oven lid to push my material down tightly. This caused my hits to thicken up really nicely.

mine shines blue when ready and the medium setting is purple not orange.

I normally have it on high so it flashes red when heating and blue when ready.

If its a counterfeit its a good one?

How can you know how how the counterfeit's performance stacks up unless you have a real one to compare it against?

I don't know it looks like a specialized tool screw - like a star shaped small allen key?

We're here to fuck shit up.
They're getting better at counterfeits except they can't seem to get the LED patterns right. With the mouthpiece removed, the heating settings on an official Pax should be Yellow = Low, Orange = Medium, Red = High. While heating, it should be a pulsating purple. When ready, it should be a pulsating green. Sleep mode glows blue. As far as I know, Ploom has not deviated from this LED pattern. If your LED differs from this then chances are you have a counterfeit Pax.

There seems to be a lot of talk about screens. I'm looking into the PAX currently, and am a little worried about not being able to pack, say, half an oven full.

WHy do people use screens? What's wrong with just filling the oven 2/3 of the way?

The pax does better with tightly packed ovens than loose ones. I use half a volcano liquid pad and this helps keep smaller loads packed tight.

Because the screen takes the place of the other 1/3 oven that isn't filled. It secures the load from moving inside the not fully packed oven. When you take draws from a fresh oven, your load will start to shrivel up or shrink from the heat. Sometimes it is no longer touching the metal which is actually doing the vaporizing. The screen is placed in there to ensure that your bud stays tightly packed and not rolling around the oven

I tried to purchase a real pax from a website on cyber Monday. They were advertising it on sale for $190, which seemed like it could be legit since a fake runs so far under that and the real not too much more.

So I ordered it and waited a month after receiving several emails with back order problems etc. I received the item and as soon as I opened the box I could tell it was fake. Come to find out that website is in litigation with ploom for selling fakes and advertising as 100% genuine. Luckily my bank refunded my money, I could never et in touch with the company.

The worst part about this fake is that it doesn't work worth a damn. I tried several different materials, all dried and grounds very fine and it just browned everything without producing the slightest bit of vapor. I saw that the fake ones at least work like a real one, but not the case for mine. So now I have all the parts for a pax, but no pax. I wound up being scared away from pax, even though it wasn't their problem and I went with the Ascent. It went strong for about a month and is now dead so I have to go without a vaporizer again to have this swapped out.

Why must being healthy and vaporizing be so difficult? Haha

With how well designed the pax is, maybe they are hinting at the proper draw method with the pulsating of the green light. Inhale when bright, pause when dimmed. I was stoned and going to the beat of the pulse and seemed to be getting great hits with those micro puffs.

Grr! I hate to see a counterfeit passed off as an authentic product. If you tell Paypal you were sold a counterfeit item - I think they should side with you. They are usually very good at siding with the customer....even when unwarranted at times. I REALLY hope you get a refund. Let us know please. Fingers crossed.

Yesterday I used my pax no problem...then I packed it again later and when I went to turn it on and it started flashing red and turned off... After taking a closer look and trying it several times I notice that it flashes red 10 times and turns off...when I put it on the charger it flashes 10 times does not charge.... a couple of times the light barely came on and it started heating up and smoke started coming out ( with no herb inside)... and the white light inside does not come on at all.... HELPPPPP
