Recyclers - Discussion and Appreciation

Very nice, @clouded vision! Love it. Vids and the piece :D
It's a nice colour and size and the whirlpool is sweet!
I'd say you got a damn good deal.

The heady Colie recycler I have is similar in design to your piece, different than the usual Colie design. It functions fairly well, but is a bit too small for my liking. It's so freaking hard to tell size from photos lol.
I may have to finally post pics/vid (now that the irritation from the shipping portion of transaction has worn off lol). Ugh, that would require lots of movement. I'll get around to it though. heh. :p
I didn't tell you what I paid but you're right I did get a good deal on it.

Do you have one of those little slime colies I've seen pics of?

lolol I think I combined posts in my head. I thought you said you paid $300 but I think that must have been in my head from the guy a few posts up.

No, it's the same design though, but it's caddy pink & black.

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
C'mon folks. Spread the word.

Only 5 more people need to commit to buy at the $300 level for the price to be set there. You don't have to commit at a higher level.

Not that I'm interested in the outcome or anything like that ....

My LHS has an illadelph handheld bubbler style recycler in stock with what looked like a honeycomb perc.. @PhotoRider have you or anyone else tried an illadelph recycler? I know it'd be supporting a big brand instead of a small time artist, which I'm More about.. Just curious about function. It is awfully pretty too actually..

I don't have one so unknown. like to see an image. i will look into it. Honeycombs and recyclers from my experience don't work well together, too much foaming or whatever its called.

That APIX klein is a great rig, i have a similar one from them. great EVO piece. the recycler I use with it.

So i had a great evening, I went down to Eugene to meetup with an artist to get a piece. Freaking awesome major heady piece like my Johnny Rise Alien. Large tall, detailed flowers, hornet, rasta work and a couple large marbles. Likec80 hours of work. Any who, I described a Klein recycler style hydratube. He told me if i could draw it, he could make it. so I am working an idea. Just need to protect that 18mm female joint area from water backflow. I'll let you know what happens

Edit:

My buddy had a several hour phone call with Earl Jr yesterday. Boy is he a stand up nice guy. He stated his business has him flooded with orders, so bad he can’t take anymore orders for over 4-5 months. Great problem to have for him :) Thank god mine was done last year. Don’t expect Earl Jr to answer communication on customs for a while, he is slammed.

Also, discussing a design with Siren Apparatus. His klien style would be perfect here. A stacked style klien where the funnel is a separate piece above the can, directly above. the can accepts the inverted funnel's tip inside the can with a drain tube coming out and exiting the can and re-entering at the bottom. the intake either the standard style with a tube inside another with the perc on the outer tube. Then the water is output through a tube from the main can up to the top funnel.

Another is having a tube from the 18mm female joint and exit the can, then looping up to the top area of the can, enter the can and then right angle turn straight down with a perc of choice at the bottom. the input to the funnel would be the same.

Then, maybe a dual intake, return :) My concern is cost. This would be pretty detailed work with the tubing and funnel/can shape and/or fit to keep the size small. Probably near a standard recycler cost, but what the hey, I'm going to try.

Another edit:
Man just bought two more recyclers. one from BM for $90 from RadBrad glass, colored slime and touches of purple. Whirlpool so-so, but all else great. Then a prototype klien from Surly for $200. Half the production retail from Facebook. Don't have it yet, but know Surly, have several rigs from him like my large alien creature in-line with skull dabber, so i trust its a keeper.

My advice check out up coming artists on facebook or BM, there is a risk, but my success rate is like 7 out of 10

Here is the Surly Klien recycler - his images...

Lucky PR, you could throw a rock and hit a talented functional glass artist! :)

Well, I thought I'd finally post pics and vid of the Colie heady pink & black recycler I picked up for my wife a while back. She's a cute little thing at 6" (the 'cycler, not me wife :D ), and I quite enjoy using it, but I think I'd prefer a larger 'cycler for myself at some point.

Pics aren't mine, they're borrowed from Colie.
I tried taking some but they don't do the piece near the justice that these pics do.

And, finally, what we all love about recycler posts, the function video
(water tests only though):

On a final note, I'd like to smash my video cam into about a billion pieces. Bastard thing. :bang:

Yeah, I really dig the work on this piece. The whirpool could be better, but it works beautifully and the moisture just 'kisses my lips' at the water level I have in that video. Very pleasant to hit. I have nothing but praise for AE's work and pre-shipping customer support. I'll leave it there. :)

I know what you mean about vids. I think I can manage like one a month maybe lol... it's so much work when you have a half-retarded camera like mine. :goon:

Does anyone have the Delta 9 Recycler WITHOUT the honeycomb? I'm hoping someone can give me some insight about how the whirlpool action is on this thing since it's already been determined that there isn't much of a whirlpool on the recycler WITH honeycomb. A water test vid would also be satisfactory :D

I'm sure someone around here has one of those ;)

EDIT:
I think the lack of whirlpool is because the input goes in straight and centered, so there's little angular momentum to start up a whirlpool.
Perhaps @PhotoRider can chime in on that theory?
You've got way more experience with recyclers than I do

So check this puppy out I saw on Instagram from Colie Glass. Interesting concept. A built in torch holder on a recycler. For those times you are tired and need your meds now...

nice to see some innovation in the functional glass art pieces lately. Much happening.

100% the angle on entry of the input into the funnel is a major indicator of the whirlpool. If it comes it straight in the middle at 90 degrees it would have a disadvantage. However, a couple have surprised me on either side of the fence. On did whirlpool nice at that angle and a couple didn't even if the angle was good. The point is its only one indication. Other area can effect it negatively. Only take one issue to effect the whirlpool and if enough. bingo.

The Delta9 is a good rig. The point I explained is the recycler effect is the contact of the vape and water yo cool it, not perc. In fact it harms it. If you want a recycler for a recycler, skip the honeycomb. If you just want a good heavy perc and negatively effect the flavor, get the honeycomb either if neither whirlpool correctly. My point is functionality of a recycler isn't just the whirlpool...

I always find it fun when someone asks a question, they get a informed answer, but the keep asking it. Means it isn't the answer you want to here :)
@green2brown I say buy the honeycomb, Don't think you would be happy if you didn't. Or better yet, buy both and you decide :) No one can really answer this question for you. Recyclers though are not about the perc, they are about less perc and more about the cooling of the vape by long contact with the water and the cooling of the water via the whirlpool. Its a different mindset. I really suggest you decide...

Thanks @Frederick McGuire! That's exactly what I needed to see :). How do you like the piece?

@PhotoRider, you've miscalculated my motive for posting a follow up question in this thread. I took your word and tossed the honeycomb out of the equation. Now I was asking to see a water test video of the inline recycler to see if it's worth picking up at all or if I should just splurge on a nicer, better functioning piece. I figure if I'm going to pick up a recycler, I might as well get one that functions well as a recycler. For the price of the Delta 9 it's tough to pass up, but $300 for this RooR is looking pretty tempting.

kinda wish it had a wider base... kinda looks a bit tipsy.
it's sitting comfortably on a shelf in my LHS, course it doesn't have water in it.. But I'd imagine they'd have tested it's sturdiness at the price point they're selling it at.. online $900, at LHS $1,0000. I have a 40% off coupon but that's still $600..

whoa... remember reading about that the price but kinda forgot about it. yeah... guess for that amount of $$$$ they tested it pretty good. Might just be the picts throwing it off for me.

you jumping in on that?

We're here to fuck shit up.
Fuuuuuuuuck! I just left my LHS and they have a beautifully worked red and amber piece with 6 fumed implosion marbles, a fumed implosion base, matching dome, matching dabber, and matching dish for $450!! I want it so baaaad!

for the price I think you could get something from hamm, etc that is much nicer just my opinion though

Agreed.
No way would I drop even $600 on that illadelph, let alone the full price.
So many other options.

Nice, that must be cool to go down to your LHS and see nice gear like that.

I no longer have any LHS, water pipe sales were banned 5+ years ago here, but even when they existed they were total garbage that sold rubber grommet china glass for insanely high prices.:cuss:
