Stuck stopper, beyond stuck.

Ooh, more to add to the list.... gasoline, nail polish remover, wd-40, turpentine. Someone mentioned that drag racers use bleach to make the rubber tires softer and stickier for more traction.

No, bleach is used to lose traction. People with under-powered cars trying to look cool (for some reason its always a FWD POS) will sometimes spray bleach so they can do smokey burnouts. A great thing to be doing as people standing near (or sitting in said car) inhale the fumes, I am sure.

People who actually make more power than traction use whats called VHT on the tires. That stuff basically glues the tires to the road. Fun stuff to be sure but not what you want to be putting in your glass.

Oh look I found a video... and its a FWD POS. lol.

First, the picture. Then the thousand words.

tldr: how to extract the rubber stopper.

Last night, whereby I resolved to clean this piece with PBW, and,
grabbed a rubber stopper, must have been 10mm, because
it fell through and became lodged, and,
piercing it with a needle couldn't pull it out.
Then I shook it for no good reason, which
caused the stopper to turn around.

How do I get this out?
Awesome!
I feel this pain. This same thing happened to me with a cork stopper.

Posted about it on FC like 1.5yrs ago.
Tried dissolving it with acids but couldn't get it to work :-/

This is a mega-stopper, has incredible cohesion. It's taken dozens of stabs, like godzilla shrugs off bullets.

After a week in iso, the outside edges of the rubber are turning brownish-black. It might be time to switch to something stronger. I wish there was a magic formula, like mountain dew and pop rocks, that I could put in there to break things up. This rubber stopper is becoming my white whale. :cuss:

From now on, it's cork for me.

Incendiary. I'll add that to the list, near the bottom, right before teleportation.
Dude, I'm telling you, if you want to turn that stopper into a "goooo" that you can clean out of there you are going to have to use either carbon disulfide or nitric acid, both super DUPER dangerous . . . :rip:

Edit: or boiling naphtha vapors for a long period of time . . . still extremely dangerous . . . :rip:

My connect is out of nitric. will sulfuric work?

wonder if you could smash the glass to the ground, remove stopper, than crazy glue the glass back together??

I bet you were that kid who peeled off the stickers on his Rubik's Cube to rearrange them instead of solving the puzzle.

Actually, I didn't peel the stickers off as they never looked quite right afterwards but there was a way to "snap" the cube and pull out a corner piece, remove the pieces and assemble it back as a "solved" puzzle. Without that I'd get about two sizes and then be done...

my only concern is that something strong enough to dissolve a rubber stopper is probably something strong enough that I dont think I would be comfortable using the glassware for anything afterwards

There is a method of neutralizing, diluting, and flushing acids from borosilicate, people with proper knowledge and equipment do it all the time, but, you will not see me going that far. Just the fumes from a reaction like that would have to be taken into consideration as extremely dangerous. Acid Magic (the kinder gentler muriatic acid) is where I draw the line.

These guys can do it but it takes specialized knowledge and glassware, except for the gasoline/toluene . . . http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=4044
Sulfuric was never mentioned in this discussion linked below . . . http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=4044

Deja-Vu . . . thinking of you . . .
