In the spirit of disclosure, I'll add my own experience thus far and I'll admit my own sour grapes...

I have no dog in the fight, but I did buy into this thread craze from the get-go and jumped in largely because of the excitement. I have stayed out of the drama-end and crossed my fingers for a good product anyways.
My Versa Kit got delivered thursday. When I opened the package, I was so UNDERWHELMED with the condition of materials sent (dirty, cheap, not in new condition) that I closed it back up and it has sat untouched in the garage ever since. No I didn't complain to Versa, nor will I. Nothing I've read here has given me any desire to go out and give it a try either.:disgust:

:peace:

EDIT: I'm SPOILED at this point because I have the holy trinity taking care of me day-in/out; I had fully planned to put everything away and give this thing hell, but like I said, I was just underwhelmed big time with the condition of everything upon arrival and did not care to invest more of my time to get everything clean when that should have been done pre-shipping... beta or not.

Downward spiral
Looking at the picture of the Infinity with(I can't remember the exact color) either a black or a white shell, I can't help but wonder if there couldn't be some kind of a snap fit shell to go over the whole body or in certain parts of the body to help with heat. I haven't received mine to gauge how hot it will be for me, but while some had issues with the heat of the original Cloud and also the LSV, I never did. Those 2 were never too hot for me or even uncomfortable. Although I was a chef in a former life who burned off the sensitivities of my fingers and hands long ago and may not be the truest representation.

As this is a beta, maybe FC testers can have a hand in the solution(final product). I remain positive and realize this is not a "final" product. It seems like they are talking of refining the concentrate bowl(per message above somewhere),and adding some keck clips so for now things appear to be moving on like a beta launch should. Mine should arrive Tuesday, and in the name of :science:, I am more then ready to head off to the lab for some testing.

Edit:Didn't see above post until after I posted mine. Ugh sorry to hear @TheNOTORIOUS_THC .
This is the 1st time seeing a post about dirty not new equip, has anyone else received the like?

Today I have been using concentrates only. I wanted a vape I could use with concentrates for an option to a nail rig and torch, the Versa is coming through for me. I have been loading .05-.1g on a ceramic disk and leaving the unit setup on glass and on, when I walk by I can have a hit. A .05g load last me 6-8 smooth tasty hits, no drama, no coughing, no hiss of a torch. I have found rotating ceramic disk every other load and torching off the impurities keeps things tasty however not doing this and vaping off the last of the oil from the disk (not getting pull through oil from ceramic disk!?) gets me that couch lock buzz and led to two naps today.

Well back to the fog, I think I have to take tomorrow off so on Tuesday when my replacement unit comes I can really give the hookah a workout. All my glass nail rigs are just not the right pieces for the job.

@TheNOTORIOUS_THC, it sounds like you have dog, it's just in purgatory :ninja:

@Silver420Surfer, maybe an asbestos shell (lol), I'm thinking of maybe a silicone cozy...

@GR, that's good to know about the concentrate bowl, that does seem pretty nice.

I must say, beta beta beta :nope:

When I went in for the G1, it was mere hours before @vtac's announcement and all was perfect in this thread. In fact it was being universally hailed as a model of crowd-sourced cooperative creativity.

Or something like that. While I hope enough refinements eventually happen to make the infinity a real success, it's looking like more of an eventual niche product unless obvious changes are made. Like the sublimator is. They're both unsafe to grab in areas, it's just that the sub has a more obvious handle.

So yeah a handle (like on a french press?) or a cozy would be good. Not tongs.

It seems to be the hotness of the main unit that makes this a niche product.
While the bowl being hot/sticking doesn't really bother me,
I do think the keck clip is way better than the tongs.

I used tongs to handle hot hookah coals when I shisha'd,
so the G1 with the hookah bowl attachment should be a walk in the park in comparison.

What I'm wondering about at this point is if the G1 can somehow overcome some of the heat issues while still being delivered on time. With some changes it could still be a formidable flower vape in the marketplace, but they have a tight (self-imposed) window to get it out to the beta team.

I'm not a very experienced dabber,
but that concentrate bowl seems like a real innovation.
edit: Too bad it's not compatible with the G1.

I just looked and yes, I could have added it for another $20

But then if the G1 has the boost feature and the concentrate bowl,
what are the differences again between the G1 and the infinity?

@grokit I won't have the actual concentrate bowl until Tuesday, I am using the flower bowl and it just so happens my ceramic disks also sit perfectly in a 18 f to 14 m reducer I have.

If the G1 has the same heater and the boost air path then it will do concentrates. The boost is a must for concentrates IMO or else you will be toking for 30sec to get a thin, flavorful hits. I will boost my concentrate hit for the first half of the hit then no boost for second half, a second hit can be followed up with no boost since the material and environment is still at vaping temps, I prefer to hit the last bits of a load this way to avoid bad flavors.

Main differences/Features between the G1 and the Infinity series.

Versa G1:
1. Heating element and glass body are permanently fixed. If failure occurs vaporizer replacements are available under warranty & can be easily replaced in seconds.
2. Control unit is removable, cords to vaporizer expandable
3. Analog control (non digital)
4. Extraction boost may not be standard in the retail version
5. Body can be upgraded to the Infinity series
6. Control unit compatible with add-on accessories such as glass e-nail. (Control unit upgradable to the Infinity series as well)
7. Can be used with all 18mm tools (Gong tools), Dry and Water cooled. Vertical or inverted. Handheld and hands free.
*Retails for 189.99 (private FC price may differ)
*1 Year warranty

Versa Infinity:

1. Interchangeable / Upgradable Glass body
2. Upgradable / Modifiable heater system
3. Digital LCD with Blue LED backlight
4. Removable / expandable cord from control unit to vaporizer (Control unit is removable)
5. New! Extraction Boost air path
6. Control unit compatible with add-ons such as glass e-nail.
7. Can be used with all 18mm tools (Gong tools), Dry and Water cooled. Vertical or inverted. Handheld and hands free.
*Retails for 289.99 (private FC price may differ)
*1 year warranty

The conclusion
You can clearly see that the Infinity is for those who want a future proof / repairable / modifiable experience.

G1 is the easy button. You'll likely never feel unsatisfied but if you ever do, you always have another option. You can slowly upgrade to the Infinity series and when you do, you'll always have a backup.

Jack of all trades, master of none.
I've been told a handle might be in the works. I think if the unit was put in permanent boost mode it would help keep temps down and the unit cooler. Also, if the whole unit was the same diameter as the top of the unit it might help some. I have a few other ideas but I'm waiting for the disassembly info to become available.

Edit: I personally don't like the handle idea for aesthetic reasons, but it might be the simplest solution. An inner baffle between the heater and the outer shell might help as well. Small changes may have an overall positive effect on the heat.

I'm still following this thread and wanted to chime in about a few things.

Boost mode:
Those who have used De Verdamper might know that it has an almost identical boost mode. Its activated by holding your hand over the top opening, exactly like the Versa. It forces the air to enter the heater through the small holes at the bottom. This doubles the length of the airpath through the heater, as the air has to travel up, and then down. Without boost mode activated, the air comes mostly through the top opening, so it only travels down through the heater instead of up-and-down (hope this makes sense). Seems the Versa boost mode works exactly the same way, am I right?

With De Verdamper, I like to use the "boost mode" for the first few inhales, it gets the vapor flowing more quickly. Without doing this, the first couple of inhales do not really contain vapor. After the vapor is flowing, I rarely use the boost mode as it makes me cough too much. The exception is for vaping hash in De Verdamper, where I use the boost mode to get the necessary heat.

So I'm basically using the boost mode on De Verdamper to prime the unit, to get vapor flowing more quickly.

From the videos it seems the Versa does not really need the boost mode to "prime" the unit, as with De Verdamper. It'll produce visible vapor on the first inhale regardless of whether boost mode is activated or not. But I could be wrong about this...?

Hot-to-touch / Burning fingers:
I own a Herborizer XL Sphere, and I love it. Just like De Verdamper and the Versa, it gets VERY hot to touch. This doesn't bother me greatly, but I have still burned myself once or twice! Although the Herborizer is probably the favorite in my collection, I often find myself preferring to use the Wychwood instead. This is because using the Herborizer requires a lot more attention. Sometimes I just want to get really high and concentrate on something other than the vaporizer itself. Its kind of a relief to know that I can grab the Wychwood anywhere and don't have to pay attention to what I'm doing. I would compare this to driving a manual or auto car. Yes, sometimes drivers enjoy the process of operating the car itself, changing gears, watching the revs etc. But other times we just want to go from A to B, and don't want to be distracted by the mechanical operation of the car. The car is just a vehicle to get somewhere, NOT the main attraction.

So the Herborizer has found its place in my collection as more of a "special occasion" vaporizer, NOT a daily driver. I get out the Herborizer when I feel like "playing" with my vapes. When I just want to get high, I generally choose a different unit from my collection. For this reason, I cannot see myself using the Versa as a daily driver. It would be something to get out on quiet Friday nights.

Based on my experience, I can see how being too hot to touch is a deal-breaker for many users. They just want vapor as quickly and easily as possible, and do not want to be bothered with operational aspects.

I'll explain soon... Need to upload more pics...

Ok... Here we go. I found a way to not charr my herbs anymore. Even at 116 or 118V. Fluctuates in my line. Even with boost I didn't combust in 3 consecutive bowls. I vaped the herb till no more vapor came with boost on for enough time...
--- 1st I took the screen included out
----2nd I capped the male end with a EQ
---3rd loose load till the top of the joint
Start vaping around 60 70 80 116
One stirring needed midway.
Boost to kill...
Always leave bowl in Y adapter to avoid burns...

This pic was taken after waiting minutes to chill down. Bowl taken out with tongs because it was stuck to male heater :(

diw5.jpg

Results .... Pretty vaked... Taste still I can't figure out what's off.
I don't find it tastes better than my Solo at 3 or 5. Or Nano. Or Cloud + or EVO.
Flavor stays there till 70V (with same strain used in all units)

ABV is really even with this method.
Full extraction for sure. Very good extraction IMO. It browns like a Solo but is totally even.

Been trying to test concentrate bowl, but I think native as it is, oil runs down freely. It's still one dab and wait 10 + minutes for cooling down bowl and frit to dab again :(
I have a ceramic disk/filter that will fit properly on top of the frit...
Sucks to be alone beta testing... I get really high :smug:
Later...

@Zangano Cruel -- Now that's what we're looking for! Thanks for sharing the helpful info.
I really like to complain…
But positives things help too… Sometimes I'm positive :)
I just don't want to mislead new members or vape rookies/noobies… This is a vape at the moment IMHO for medium to advanced vaporists…
Time will tell…
At the moment I just can keep testing the concentrates bowl with that ceramic disk and hope for the best :)

Smooth sailing while I'm inhaling... VAPOR
Here is a video of a rapid fire boost. All I am doing is cupping the bottom of the versa every other second, on of on off, like how you make the wa wa indian sound. 74 volts Nice even browning, steady flow of vapor. I use my same usual dosage 1/8 teaspoon. Enjoy the featured presentation:spliff:

Nice vapor production…
How did it tasted for you??
Are you getting the usual taste …. or some off flavor???
At the end of the video I can see really really dark ABV.
Was it off focus?? Or really almost dark dark brown??
How moist is your material?? Is you grind coarse??
TIA

ZC I think you and I are spoiled by our EVOs and we are just not tasting the goodies that we are used too. Although my hi temp dabs do have the hint of ceramic... i think. But I agree that the taste is not spectacular and at hi temps there is an off flavor. Have you smelled the glass bowl when its really hot? give it a try. Mine did not smell good.
It was really dark brown but not as black as it appears in the video. I think out of focus also.
This stuff is a lil moist and not super fine grind. It is supposed to be sour diesel but its hard to tell since my state is not medical. I use a sharpstone grinder with a dime to shake kief and shred a lil more.

Too be fair about this heat thing the only vape I have which body does not get hot is my EQ. My sub could be used to brand cattle. My EVO will burn you above the arch over the dial (note my bands in the video). The versa will burn you an inch above the cap that holds the heater on (the white thing inside the versa in my video). I think vapes with beastly heaters just have this issue. The only workaround would be thicker heavy more insulated vapes which would be tough for us glass users. You just have to know your tools and work with them within there parameters.

So I think this thing is meant for concentrates. I urge everyone who is capable to try this: If you can make a mini elb and you put the EQ cap in the male end of your bowl then add a dash of kief and cover it you will have an amazing experience at 90-93 volts. like I said just give it a try:smug:

I had hoped to have some pics or even vid tonight, but this weekend has been as hectic as the week. Just popping in to say this, though. I loaded .2 grams in the bowl and got six huge, milky hits. The first couple hits were really tasty, but even on the sixth hit, it wasn't popcorn, just huge clouds of vapor. I only stirred once after the third hit, and the abv heated evenly through to a nice dark brown. I had it set at 75 volts straight through using a beaker bub and never used boost, which I am quickly learning is not only unnecessary with herb but too quick to cause combustion anyway.

The son of a bitch does get hot, though. I got a little palm happy and it was hot enough just a couple inches above the cap to give me a little singe that has stayed with me all night. You definitely have to be very aware of your hands when using this vape in its current incarnation. But man, I was stoned, I mean high school stoned. Still pretty damn impressed so far.

Will try to get some video soon.
